Literally (not even exaggerating one bit) the best fitness gear I’ve added to my life in a very long time.

I have an incredible running bra to talk about  with you today (it does way more than just provide awesome support and comfort) along with a discount for you to try it out!  This post is sponsored by OMBra and I seriously am so excited about this—> the numbers geek inside of me is rejoicing over all of this information that I can get about my runs and how I can use this to become a stronger runner.

——————————————————————————-

There are runners out there that are simplistic and just need their running shoes and a road.  Then there are runners like me that love knowing as much as possible about all of the data that happens during the run.  I get excited (especially after a speed workout or long run) to pull up any data that I can about the run on my computer afterwards to analyze it, to see any improvements and to come up with ways that I can improve.

OMbra has made it to my favorites list.  It makes me smile to even type about it because I’m so excited about all of the information it gives to me during and after each run.  OMbra is the first piece of fitness tech apparel to combine deep heart rate signal and breathing rhythms to calculate your personal intensity zones… and it is all combined into our sports bra.  I wear a sports bra for every run so I might as well get all the facts from it too right?

With the OMbra, the sensor technology is seamlessly embedded in the fabric.  This allows everything to be captured from the body’s core (rather than just limited wrist-based metrics like the garmin I have been using to get my heart rate).

DSC07655

When I first heard about OMbra I wasn’t super sure about it.  The bras colors and design are super cute and that caught my attention immediately.  I just wasn’t sure how it would work on my body based on the fact that I have tried out chest heart rate straps for years and always ended up tossing them in the back of my closet because they annoyed me so badly.  I did not like heart rate chest straps because I had to adjust them every .3 miles and whenever I got sick of adjusting and tightening them, I would end up with a nice chafing line that went around my entire body.  Oh and they made me feel claustrophobic too.  I definitely went into trying this bra out not sure what I would think but by mile 1 or 2 of my first run with it, I fell in love.

I was also a little nervous that the OMbox (what is used to track the movement and steps) would be bothersome for me… but I don’t even notice it is there.  My arms don’t touch and I don’t feel it next to my body.  Now, if I am wearing a super tight tank then you can notice a bump but in everything else you can’t see it.

DSC07645

Let’s talk about the sports bra itself for a second.  I have experienced the annoyance/discomfort that comes from a bad sports bra and would never wish that even on my worst enemy;)

I LOVE the ladder straps which allow you to fit the bra to exactly where is most comfortable to you.  The cups are flattering and comfortable and I don’t feel a thing moving around while I’m running:)  It’s the perfect combo of not feeling constricted, like everything is too compressed together but then also providing perfect control during the run.  There is a super soft underwire to help reduce the bounce and the racerback absorbs pressure produced while we run.  It’s the type of sports bra you are more than happy to wear for hours on end.  It can more than handle everything that comes along with endurance running—> high impact and lots of time out there on the roads.

DSC07641

Oh and that adjustable hook on the OMbra and eye closure at the bottom makes it a lot easier to put the bra on and take it off (which can be a workout in itself at times (ha!) but this one is so much easier to take off).

Not with OMbra haha:

PS I’m in the single digits of number of days until my marathon… AHHHHHHH!

DSC07657

During your run the OMbox just streams all of your info to your iPhone via Bluetooth onto your OMrun app for real-time data.  This allows you to have a super personalized coaching experience with every run from your easy days to the days you are out there crushing it with speed.

I always have my phone with me while I run and I just slip it into a belt so I am hands free while running.  I just pull it out every so often and glance over all of the data and what zones I am in etc throughout the run and then really study the information once I am done.  For those who wear headphones/ear buds, you can turn audio notifications on and customize them depending on what you want to get updates on.

And a shout out to the photographer of above pictures.  #instagramhusband;)

IMG 7253

As soon as I finish my run, I get an email that takes me to all of the runs information, which I can either access from my laptop or from within the app.

Screen Shot 2016 09 17 at 12 06 01 PM

I am so intrigued by the smart zones that it offers me. These zones are all determined scientifically and can help us really figure out if we are running too hard too often or if we need to pick things up in order to improve.  Once it knows your personal thresholds (through the deep and accurate heart rate and real-time breathing while you run) it can help you to run within your own Smart Zones.   This can all help us to achieve more mindful running, understanding our bodies and increasing our running efficiency.

The below zones were from a 5 mile run where I did the first and last mile easy and the three middle miles at race pace.  It made me happy to see that my heart rate and breathing told me I was in the right zones for the workout I was attempting.  The OMbra is the first piece of fitness tracking apparel to combine the deep heart rate signal and breathing rhythms to help each user to figure out their specific intensity zones.  We are all in different places with our fitness (and it changes over time for all of us) and it is so fun to understand my different zones for where I am NOW (and how I can improve with the Biometric coaching).

Screen Shot 2016 09 19 at 5 41 46 PM

Another big question I had was how do you charge and wash the OMBra?  You just have to remove the smart box and wash the bra on cold, gentle cycle and hang to dry!  The battery lasts for about 18-20 hours if in use.  It is super easy to just plug into your computer to charge.

IMG 7431

It’s super fun to see how much the temperature outside and changes in elevation affect our heart rate and breathing over the course of a run too.

IMG 7588

So once you finish your run you are sent an email right away with all of your stats.   It includes everything in your report from pace, distance, how many calories you burned and even things like your stride length, cadence (I need to work on that!!!!) and your breathing rhythm including how many breaths you take during a run!!!).   The OMbra offers you your personal Anaerobic Threshold since it tracks your heart rate and breathing at the same time.  So so cool.

It is so fun for me to see how my heart rate, breathing rate, pace and elevation all correlate and work together.

Some of the info from my trail run the other day (my cadence is even lower on the trails):  PS I wore another gps at the same time for this run and the distance from my OMbra was right on and also exact with where I know each mile hits on this trail… but with the OMbra I got so much more information from the sensors in the band of the bra at the core.

PicMonkey Collage

I’ll stop going on and on about it now but I do have a little video clip too:

The OMbra comes in black, pink, a super cute print or maroon.  Once you have the OMbra starter kit you can just purchase the different bras if you would like and connect the box to it.   I’ll be buying the maroon next and probably adding another to my Christmas list (Andrew, you are reading right?).

**Would you rather run with a group, solo or with your pup?

**Would you rather run a long race with crazy blisters on your feet or stomach issues?

**Would you rather travel for a race or run one in a super familiar place for you?

**Would you rather recover with an ice bath or a long foam rolling session?

**Would you rather run in a strong headwind or on ice?

**Would you rather the first half of your run be uphill or the second half?

Would you rather: bring on the hills, shoes (even if they are too small), too hot……I don’t like being cold, distance, road, at night, run solo, blisters, travel for a race, foam rolling, headwind, and the first half uphill. Fun questions!

Thanks for sharing! I didn’t realize bras could be so tech-savvy.

These “would you rather” questions are hard! I would rather run early in the morning (which is what I do now, anyway), but I love running at night around Christmas time and seeing all of the lights! :) Also, I would rather run with blisters on my feet than with stomach issues. Stomach issues might be the worst thing ever during a race. Seriously.

Flat– Too small–Too cold–Distance–Trail–Morning–With friends–blisters–travel for race–foam rolling–headwind–first half.

Looking over the list, if all those things went wrong at the same time, I would probably just give up on life.

Geez thats crazy cool.

-flat race course
-i love travel races because i really enjoy seeing new places!
-i’d definitely rather be cold
-i wish i could get my puppy to run with me, she’s a little bit of a nut

Flat course because I live and train in South Florida where bridges are our only hills
Shoes that are too small
Definitely too cold (I am really over running in “Feels like 93” at 5am with 75-degree dew point)
Distance
Road
Early morning
Solo
Blisters – you can power through those, but you HAVE to stop with stomach issues
Travel – love seeing new places
Foam rolling – I am always cold after runs and an ice bath sounds like absolute torture
Headwind I guess – I haven’t run on ice since I lived in Boston 15 years ago
First half uphill. For sure.

-FLAT COURSES FOREVER!!! This midwest girl can’t even handle the tiniest of hills haha.

-No shoes. My feet blister easily and I couldn’t even imagine how quickly I’d stop in too small shoes.

-Too cold. It sucks, but at least it makes you want to keep moving and get that run done faster.

-Run for distance. Speed can be fun at times, but boy can it suck.

-A healthy mix of both. I love trails, but the roads around where I live offer beautiful views as well.

-I’m a morning person through and through. Chasing the sunrise is something else.

-solo with my pup. Runs are always just that much more interesting and usually challenging because my pup is not a constant runner. She’s all or nothing haha.

-Can I choose neither blisters nor stomach issues? k great.

-Travel. It’s fun to get to know a place by running through it. I always make a point of driving the course before the race so I’m semi familiar, but it’s fun to try some place new.

-Foam roll love over here.

-Strong headwind. I’m a klutz enough without ice and I’m not looking to get injured.

-First half uphill easily.

That bra looks pretty cool. Can you sync heartrate to garmin?

I’d rather run a flat race than a hilly race. I think.

Love the would you rather!
*Super hilly – I need the variation, especially the longer the race
*No shoes – I feel like shoes too small would be so painful
*Too cold – no question – I cannot stand the heat when running
*Distance – both are painful, but I can mentally handle the distance pain better
*Trails – all day, everyday
*Early in the morning – I do this already because I have no energy at the end of the workday
*Solo run – although I have never done group runs so maybe I would like them
*Blisters – I experience stomach issues enough to think painful blisters would be easier to deal with
*Travel – I like to see new places…although sleeping in your own bed the night before is great
*Ice bath…? – have never tried one, but I really am not a huge fan of foam rolling
*Headwind – no question – ice is not only dangerous, but pretty much impossible to run on with any sort of form or consistency
*Second half – I am good at hills, so by the second half I am warmed up and ready to tackle the rest

How crazy stinkin cool is the OMBra. Wow. I’m just sort of starting to pay attention to numbers, actual I’m just moving beyond, distance, calories and time. This is very very cool. Thanks for sharing and a thorough review.
Your would you rather questions were kind toughies.
No flat or super hilly – I’d rather in between. | No shoes | Too Cold | Distance | Road (never tried a trail) | Early in the morning for sure | Solo or with pup | Neither blisters or stomach, I’d skip race, ha) | Travel | Foam Rolling Session | Wind

– Flat Course.
– No shoes.
– Too cold. Being too hot is painful (been there).
– Distance.
– Trails.
– I’d prefer to run in the mornings. Although I rarely wake up earlier to do it and I end up running at nigh time.
– Solo or with just one friend. Big groups are kind of distracting.
– I have no idea!
– Travel to some place new.
– Iced bath.
– Can I just not run in this case?
– Second half.

Janae-used to love your blog but it’s now become a blog of products that are promoted 1-2 times and never mentioned again and a blog that invades the privacy of two adorable four year olds on a daily basis. Give those kids some privacy! Plastering their photos on the internet daily is so invasive and so dangerous. I especially feel for Knox who, for the first few years of his life, actually had privacy. Now he too is plastered all over the blog-give these children some privacy! They appear to be adorable, sweet kids but they deserve to have some privacy.

Reply

I feel like she has addressed this issue of sponsored products in a previous post, in case you missed it.

This blog is her job, and she needs to be compensated somehow for all the writing she does. She posts every day.
With how popular her blog is, I’m sure she turns down multiple opportunities she is offered and only shares with us products she enjoys/believes in.

That’s just how blogging goes. If you don’t like sponsored posts then DON’T READ IT.

ALSO – How she chooses to handle her kids’ privacy is NONE of your business. That’s very rude and disrespectful. Cut the BS of “feeling for Knox” when he has other parents who are involved – and I bet have had a lengthy discussion – about how much they want to share on this blog. Not your children. Not your job to comment on their privacy.

Reply

Sam,

As a long time reader I’m allowed to give an opinion. She does have to make money absolutely but I would assume she also appreciates reader feed back as the readers are how she makes money.

She has chosen to make her kids lives “my” (and everyone else with Internet access)’s business. Maybe there was a lengthy discussion but maybe there wasn’t. Maybe all parents are on board, I don’t know. I do think kids deserve privacy and safety. With all the creeps in the world I think now more than ever is the time to be cautious about posting pictures, names, and information about children online. There was actually an episode of Dr. Phil recently where am individual took someone else’s social media pictures, printed them, hung them in their home and pretended the kids were their own. Scary stuff, right? I think Janae is trying to find her new niche in the blogging world now with her recent family and life changes and I think feedback is the way to help her navigate what sits well with readers and what doesn’t.

**I think I would have to go with stomach issues. You can duck off the course if you have to, but you can’t get off your feet.
**I would rather travel. I think races are one of the most fun reasons to travel and it is always fun to be distracted by new scenery.
**I’ve honestly never tried an ice bath, but it seems like a lot of work. If I could have a running butler prepare one for me, I’d go ice bath. If not, foam rolling for sure.
**Headwind. I’m way more likely to injure myself on ice. At least a headwind is just temporarily miserable…plus you know you get to turn around :O).
**Definitely the first half. I almost always run out and back, so that means downhill all the way home!

Fun post – it is interesting to read all the responses.

Really interesting idea and great review with lots of information! This is the kind of sponsored post I would love to see on your blog – one that has to do specifically with running (vs. tampons or snack packs, etc.) This is actually a product I will look into buying.

I have a question – when you say that a post like this is sponsored does it mean that you were paid to write it? or that you received the product for free to review? or both? I am just curious because I know some bloggers will say “so-and-so sent me this product to try out”, etc.

And I would rather run for distance (not speed), and I’d rather run on the trails (not the road).

Flat course.

Run without shoes.

Too cold to run. Overheating no bueno.

Run for distance just b/c I’m still working towards that goal.

Run on the road. I’m too clumsy to run on trails.

Run really late at night. I like the calm and quiet. Gives me a chance to think about the day.

Run solo. See reason above.

Crazy blisters. I don’t handle upset stomach very well.

Travel for a race b/c the new location distracts me.

Long foam rolling session. Hurts so good :P

Strong headwind – again I’m too clumsy to handle ice. Plus 1 torn ACL is enough to scare me from ice.

First half of my run uphill. I’ve had it happen the other way and it was awful.

Love this idea! I love having stats too, so this seems perfect.

** Flat course! Although my first half marathon was the Nike Women’s in San Fran, so hilly courses have a special place in my heart.

** Trail runs all the way!

** Early in the morning. I don’t love the waking up part, but I love how it starts my day.

** Run solo

** Stomach issues. Running with blisters sounds completely horrible.

** Travel! I’ve traveled for most of my races, it is so much fun to make a race weekend out of it.

** Foam rolling, although I’ve never tried ice baths (too chicken)

** Strong headwind

** First half, definitely. Get it out of the way!
