My normal cheesiness and the magic number of miles/days running!

What better way to start your day of putting a house together/renovations than with a morning run together?  We both couldn’t find our garmins for our run but I’m guessing I just finished up the week with a total of 47ish miles.  A little lower than normal but I’m happy those miles even happened with everything we’ve accomplished this week with the house.

I’m actually thinking about dropping down to 5 days a week of running because when I have done that in the past during marathon training my body was very happy and I had my favorite marathon ever (St. George Marathon 2 years ago:)  I felt like it just worked for me, there were no close calls with any injuries and I felt more rested with 5 days of running a week.  I’ll try it out next week and report back.  I kind of want to switch one my normal days of running for a day of strength training rather than just trying to squeeze in a few minutes of strength after my runs?!

Finding that magic number of miles/days running each week is the best.

We then said goodbye to our apartment, turned in our keys and ate a muffin for breakfast.

A few of you asked what Brooke thinks of her room… she is in absolute heaven over here.  I think her ‘fancy’ chandelier is her favorite part of the whole room.  Whenever people come over to visit, she guides them straight back to her room to show it off.

IMG 3921

One of Andrew’s absolute favorite places to eat is In-N-Out so we grabbed the good stuff before a day of errands.

IMG 3931

Most important errand we did—>  we picked up a million groceries so we can FINALLY EAT AT HOME.  I cannot wait.  Grilled chicken salads and watermelon are on the menu today.

She is quite a good lil’ helper:

IMG 3937

After Costco my sister and her family came over to check out the set-up.

IMG 3944

My sister helped us figure out the layout of our furniture (she really needs to be an interior decorator).

IMG 3951

Yep, Costco for the 2nd time in one day because we realized we reallllllly wanted one of their rugs for the family room.

IMG 3956

And then Home Depot because what would our weekend be without some time spent there.  Brooke has been bringing her Dr. case with her everywhere… ya never know when you are going to need a plastic stethoscope.

IMG 3966

We sure are lucky to have him.

We grabbed a ceiling fan for our room because I LOVE LOVE LOVE sleeping with one on.

IMG 3968

Not to be cheesy or anything but this house thing is kind of a big deal for me and the Brookers.  We’ve loved where we have lived before but now we really feel like we are at home.  It’s just nice to have somewhere we will be for awhile (instead of moving every year:) that has a yard, that we can all make our own and stability because we’ve been all over the place ever since she was born.

SHE TURNS FOUR NEXT WEEK!?!?

IMG 3976

We had another late night together of putting stuff together so Andrew picked these beauties up for me.

How many running days a week is your body happiest with?

Who else has a birthday in August?  Anyone else have a birthday on the same day as Brooke (the 15th).

Are you a fan of decorating?  Where are some of your favorite places to get stuff for your home?

Sour treats or chocolate or does it depend on your mood?

I do best with 4 days of running a week, but during training I try and stick to 5 so I can get in some extra miles. I do like to decorate……..not sure how good I am at it, although I feel like I have a knack for collage walls…………where you hang several picture frames of different sizes on a wall sort of like a giant collage….that’s how one wall of our living room is! You have to get the spacing and sizes just right! I like getting stuff for home at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond.
I like chocolate and sour…………..it does depend on my mood! So happy for your new house! Working together on these projects builds great memories! Have fun with all of it!

I love the process of starting over and making a new place your home. The moving part is no fun, but the putting it all together is. My Mom does decorating so I’m very lucky. Every time I’ve moved she’s done everything for me and my house always looks amazing!

Will you be doing a house tour of sorts?! Would love to see how everything turned out!

YES YES YES YES YES!! We definitely will be!! Thanks for following along Katherine and I hope you are having a wonderful day!

My birthday is August 23rd! August babies are the best. No, really, we are. Just sayin.

I like having 2 “rest” days a week. If I’m training for something, I usually have 1 rest day. 4-5 running and 1-2 strength. I’m not training for anything now and starting this week, I’m going to be doing 3 strength days and only 2 days of running! ? I really feel like I need more strength so I’m going to try to switch it up. This will be hard for me because I’d much rather just go outside and run. But, my 2 running days will be trail running which is my absolute favorite!

Lately, I’ve been loving skittles! The ones in the purple bag. But I’m always a huge fan of Justin’s peanut butter cups.

I love Brooke’s bedding! Where is it from?

Reply

HEY KATE!!! I like your schedule! Sounds perfect… I’m totally with you on wanting to be outside running instead of in the gym (especially if that means I get to trail run)! Her bedding is from Pottery Barn! Here is the link:

Have a fabulous evening!

My body loves 4 days a week of running, plus 1 day of cross-training. But it’s always a struggle to fit in concentrated strength training — it’s just not my favorite thing to do, even if I know how important it is! Right now I’m experimenting with 15 minutes of strength after every shorter run during the week. Let’s see how that works out :)

I love the feeling of settling into to somewhere that feels like home. I just moved into my place last summer and love thinking and planning all of the home improvement and decoration stuff! Sound like you’re enjoying this process too. :)

omg it’s my dream to have that rug from costco!!! My friend in Chicago had one and I’d just lay on it and pet it during small group… lol such a weirdo

I always enjoy redecorating a house. I’ve moved so much it’s honestly second nature to me. I always like cleaning out old stuff too.

My brothers birthday is in August but not too many August birthdays around me. I feel like a lot of friends were July!

I’m a fan of decorating but feel like I’m SOOO bad at it haha I always go for my sisters opinion on everything!
Also, Brooke’s chandelier is absolutely beautiful!
High five on how productive you’ve been with the renovations. Your posts have been motivating me BIG TIME!
… I’m procrastinating doing ours…

I was very happy to move to a house too after I finished university. I lived in res my first year and then apartments after that. There’s just something about not sharing walls with anyone that’s kind of luxurious. I also missed having a backyard big time.

My Dad’s birthday is Audust 15th too! Great day! :)

Brooke’s room is too cute! My daughter turns 16 (!) on August 15th, great day for a birthday!

Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. I wanted chocolate so bad last night, but there wasn’t any in the house. Why do you think I nearly ate entire Costco sized bad of Boom Chicka Pop?? I was thinking maybe if I just kept eating it, my chocolate craving would have been cured. It didn’t work. Does Andrew deliver craving requests to other women. Or can he just text Ross that suggestion? ;)

Your house is coming along so well and is looking phenomenal. I feel like I know HOW to decorate, but I don’t decorate how I want to because $$$$ It’s like, I want to do a shelf here. Well the shelf is $100 and then you spend another $100 or more to put stuff on it. There now you have spent a few hundred dollars and have decorated 3 square feet of your home. Or like curtains and pillows, why are they so expensive? This is why it has taken us so long to redo our house. Once room at a time. Sigh. We still have the 2 upstairs bathrooms, our bedroom, and now our house rrrreally needs new carpet. One day we will be done. Maybe. And then we will probably move. Ha!

I usually only run 3 days a week and cycle 2-3 days. I had my marathon PR last November training that way. My 52 year old legs thank me.

My husband’s birthday is August 19th. We met on August 18th, so August is a happy month for us.

Did somebody say chocolate?!

I love that grey dress! Would you mind sharing where you got it?

HEY CHARLEY!! It is so comfortable! I got it from Called to Surf in the store and I can’t find it online but they have a bunch of really cute dresses here:

I was wondering if you could share where your running headband is from? And also your running tank?! I’m a new follower after taking a running hiatus for nearly 6 years and you’ve inspired me to run again… 4 weeks and going strong! Thank you! I would be interested in hearing more about your gear, as mine is pretty dated/gone after so many years of no use.

Reply

Hey Stephanie! I got that one from Lululemon a few years ago and the tank from Nike last year! AHHH YAY for getting back to running… 4 weeks is AWESOME! You’ve got this and I’m here cheering you along! I will totally write more about gear, great idea!

Reply

So kind of you to reply… especially so quickly! Thanks for letting me know about the gear and can’t wait to hear more! Love your blog!

You have to show when all done what your sissy did with arranging! Too funny I want one of those Costco rugs for my family room! My puppy soiled my old rug but I’m gonna have to wait until done with puppy stage but I love those!
Love Brooke’s room! I need to redo my daughters soon.

Lately I’ve gotten more into decorating! Even though I’m not that good and just get excited over small decorative things haha. I love TJ Maxx and Home Goods for finding things!

Beautiful chandelier! How nice to set up roots and make your house home!

I run 3 days a week. My legs run a lot happier when they are fresh. On the other days I walk up hills, do a lot of planks, strength train. I keep myself active but run pretty low mileage.

My daughter turns 6 August 22nd!

My favorite place to shop for decos for the house : Pottery Barn and Home Goods.

YES YES YES we totally will! AHHH I can’t wait for it to be done. I hope you have had a fabulous weekend Katie!

In and Out is the best! Yum!

I started by running 3 days per week — which gave me ample recovery time between runs. Now I’ve found I can run 4 days per week without risk of injury. My goal (after this training cycle) is to be able to run a few miles every day at an easy pace.

I’m a big believer in sour and gummy treats — but every once in a while I crave chocolates like a fiend.

Reply

Lucky Brooke! I love this chandelier so much! This time around for marathon training, I’m doing 4 runs a week (incl. one long run + one tempo run + one day that includes intervals) and two days of cross-training (HIIT or weight class). With Cystic fibrosis I have to think long term and focus on staying healthy and injury free… lean muscle mass plays an important part in this so cardio is very important but weight training is also a must. Sour candies for the win!!!

Reply

it’s not cheesy at all, its a huge deal to move into a house that you own! I can only imagine how nice it feels to have a real permanent home for Brooke.

I love shopping at TJ maxx and pier one and looking at house decor, but I haven’t lived in any one place for long enough to decorate for real so I’m still looking forward to doing that one day

always chocolate!

I am a 4-6 day a week runner!! Generally I try to run every weekday and let myself do whatever I want on the weekends be it rest, a fun run, a new lifting workout, whatever. It works for me because I have a concern about over doing it with running and getting bored with it (I’ve been running for a long time), this way I have a lot of variety and enjoy my weekday runs soo so much more. Plus I still get that feeling of comittjbg to a routine which I like!! I’m excited to know how u do with 5 days.

Can’t wait to see pics of the finished product of your home projects! I love shopping home decor from pottery barn, restoration, ikea, target, & lowes!

Cheesiness allowed … “watching” Andrew with you and Brooke is heart melting. For what it appears, he treats you both exactly how you ought to be treated – as precious gifts. The past few years have been rough on you guys and it is so fun to see you both being treasured and loved.

As for running, meh. I had baby #2 in May and it’s 10298739 degrees here in Texas. I do what I can just short of dying. Hopefully it cools down soon so I can try and gain back some of the ground I’ve lost!

Reply

OH thanks Whitney! He sure does treat us amazing! CONGRATS on your second little one! Oh, I can’t even imagine attempting to run in Texas during the summer! The fall will be awesome for your running!

Reply

Chocolate. Always chocolate. So happy for you and Brooke and your new family. I think it’s wonderful and understand that finally settled feeling. Love her room!

Reply

Eeeeh! We have that rug too! It’s AMAZING!!!

I feel best with 4-5 days of running each week. And more and I can start to feel burned out.

And, I’m a total sucker for chocolate. It’s actually a pretty dangerous obsession. ;)

Another All Blacks shirt on your little nephew!!! What is the New Zealand connection?!

Reply

HEY!! Okay, so I’m not quite sure ha… but you are right! I’m guessing my Bro-in-law has connections somehow but I will ask!!! Hope you had a great weekend:)

Reply

So fun!! I can’t help but be excited to see New Zealand being represented in the world! By the way, it’s even prettier than everyone says – you should totally come over this way!

Reply

My birthday is the 15th!! Yay!! I also often drop to 5 days a week of running instead of 6, especially as my long runs get longer. Otherwise I feel like I just can’t get enough rest to be ready for workouts.

Reply

5 days of running is usually best for me. I usually take a weekday and Sunday off.

My birthday is August 27th. My family has 6 birthdays in August! So we basically have a party every week.

Chocolate for me!

Reply

Usually I can run 4-5 days a week (one is always a day of sprint intervals), but never more than 20-25 miles. Now, at 33 weeks pregnant, I’m still pumping out 3-4 days a week–anywhere from 10-12 miles total! Fingers crossed I can keep that up for another few weeks!

And chocolate vs. gummies completely depends on the season. In the summer, I’m all about Sweedish Fish, Sour Melons, and Peach Rings!

Reply

5 days of running per week is my body’s “happy place” for sure! I learned that lesson after a few training sessions of trial and error though… I LOVE Brooke’s little chandelier!

Reply

Chocolate all the way!! :)

Ah, I am so happy you are feeling at home! In the last 3 years, I have lived in 6 different places due to work and moving around, so I totally get the need to feel at home…very much something I am working on in our new state. I have a few questions for you – what kind of headband are you wearing for your run in the first photo? I sweat an ungodly amount (I’m not even kidding a little bit) and I have been on a quest to find a headband that wicks away sweat and stays in place. Suggestions? Also, I may have missed this in an earlier post, but what paint color did you choose for what I am assuming is the living room? I love that gray color! Thanks!

Reply

Hey Ashley! That headband is from Lululemon:) I got it a few years ago and still love it. I pretty much buy all of my headbands from there… they stay perfectly in place and I sweat a lot too but never notice any issues! The paint color is White Metal.. we are in love with it!! Thanks Ashely and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Considering my husband and I moved into our house in December and all we have on the walls are wedding pictures, I would say decorating is NOT one of my passions. Lol! I suppose it might be if we weren’t trying to save every penny for grad school and I could buy some cool stuff.
Definitely depends on my mood! I’m usually a chocolate girl but sometimes gummies just hit the spot.

My boyfriend ate at In N Out like 5 times during our short stay in California. I wonder why they won’t put any around the east coast? I pick chocolate over sour any day. And I am a bad person to ask about running days– I usually need 1 day off a week and would possibly (probably) benefit from more but I like running too much and end up doing it anyway. I really want to start a new activity soon though that is different than running yet benefits it. any suggestions from anyone? And I unfortunately can’t get into yoga…

So happy for you guys to making your home… home! :) My favorite place to shop is Ikea. Can’t help it. So many pretty, affordable things. Do you have an Ikea close by?

Also, IN-N-OUT FTW!!

I think I am happiest with 3-4 running days a week, but I see that for a marathon training (if I ever attempt), I would have to bump up to more.

Your new place looks amazing!! Can’t wait to see more pictures :)

I love running 4-5x a week, (my body’s happy place!) although most of this pregnancy I’ve averaged right around 3-4 days a week.

August birthdays? My dad’s birthday is August 21, our wedding anniversary is the 23rd, and our little one’s due date is the 28th! Yay for August celebrations!

I find that my body is happiest with three days on and one day off. The last day of the three *always* makes my plantar fasciitis act up, no matter how long I run for… :(

Janae, any tips on dealing with plantar fasciitis? I know you just did a post on how your stomach sleeping makes it act up, but do you know of anything else that would help??

Happy early birthday to Brooke! She is looking so beautiful and grown-up.

4 days a week with 9 – 10 miles each weekday and longer for Sat. Strength training one to two times a week. About all I can handle at my age. :)

So where are the kids when you guys run together?

I love decorating a home it’s always fun to change things up. My body is happy with 3-4 days a week of running and I am a huge fan of strength and cross training. Looove chocolate especially dark. Glad that you were able to go shopping. Nothing is better when you finally have a kitchen again. We have redone two kitchens while living in them and it is fun eating out for a little bit, but it gets old. My Daughter Maciella will be 2 on the 15th. She gets a cupcake for breakfast on her birthday and that means so does Mama :-)
