DONE, what causes my plantar and we need your opinion on some house stuff.

Andrew just taking a cat nap in the grass before getting back to painting again.

Brooke and I were in charge of clean-up and Andrew finished up all of the painting.  Hallelujah.  I could be okay if we never had to paint again;)

Let’s rewind to the start of Monday.  I felt surprisingly way better than I was expecting and running actually took away the last of the sore in my legs—> 9 miles @ 8:10 average pace.  I may have slacked off on speed work this time around but I have been more diligent than ever on my stretching and foam rolling this time around.  The older I get, the less I am able to get away with running and not stretching/rolling out afterwards.  In my early 20s I don’t think I ever did either of those things…

Beretta loves it when I foam roll.

IMG 3293

Brooke and I had quite the random day together.

We went and I got my eyelashes glued on… I go about once a month to do this and I’m hooked.  It started a few years ago as a thing I was just going to do for a few months and it slowly turned into a few years.  Brooke just runs around the little room with snacks and games while tickling my feet.

IMG 3357

We then did a bunch of errands and ate lunch and this picture was taken about 20 seconds after she was telling me that she WAS NOT TIRED.

IMG 3365

After she woke up we grabbed these.   Perfect for these 90 degree afternoons.

IMG 3371

Just me and my best gal pal on the curb.

IMG 3380

And then as we were driving home we saw this bounce house place and it turns out that it is just fine doing it in your clothes.

IMG 3391

I literally can’t believe how big she is getting (SHE TURNS 4 IN 13 DAYS!!!)… it seems like it was just yesterday that I was posting 400 selfies a day of her and I when she was a newborn.

IMG 3383

Most of our kitchen stuff is in boxes so continuing the take-out here we go.  Cafe Rio makes us happy.

IMG 3403

Brooke’s first ever backyard.

IMG 3427

And dessert consisted of loads of watermelon.  I don’t even want to think about watermelon season ending soon…

IMG 3428

This is really random but I think I figured out something about my feet/ankles.  Every now and then my plantar fasciitis and a little tendonitis in my ankles flares up.  It’s taken me a little while to figure out what causes these things to flare up… but it might sound silly.  Whenever I sleep on my stomach a few nights in a row—> BOOM.  My feet and ankles flare up with the combination of running a lot of miles (for me).  Whenever I sleep on my back or side a few nights in a row along with a lot of miles (for me)—>  very happy feet and ankles.  Maybe it is all in my head BUT it kind of makes sense though.  When I sleep on my stomach then my feet are in a non-natural (toes pointed and that ligament tightens up?)  way for 8 hours straight and then I go straight to running on them.  I have not talked to a Dr. about this but I’m prepared to write a scientific thesis on this any day now;)  I have no idea if this is really what causes it but the correlation is kind of strange.

It’s a shame though because sleeping on my stomach is by far my favorite way to sleep

IMG 3284

Andrew and I went from…  let’s just paint the house to let’s paint and redo the floors to let’s paint, do the floors, the bathrooms and get new countertops.  I think we have a problem and it’s going to sure take some time but it has been really fun to do this all together.  Currently we are figuring out what tile we want to put down in our bathrooms… we have narrowed it down to 6 but we want your opinion… what’s your favorite?

What do you think?  Have an opinion on what bathroom tile we should use?

Are you into home renovations?  I’m pretty sure I get caught scrolling on Instagram every home decorating account I can find for as long as possible.

Is there anything that you do OUTSIDE of running that causes you pain when you are running?

-Randomly all of the painting for hours straight with the big ol’ roller was bothering my hip.

Have any injuries or flare ups that pop up for you?

I think bathroom tile depends on the size of the bathroom. Smaller the bathroom, bigger the tile. And I’m having serious back issues for weeks so no running right now and just walking. And not loving it so much. :)

Number 6! Number 4 is a close second, but I hate having to clean white grout.

Reply

Number 4!

Reply

I like tile option #4. :) I live in an apartment, so I don’t ever do any home renovations. It sure sounds like a lot of work, though!

My plantar fasciitis tends to flare up when the lower/outside part of my leg gets tight, so I have to roll that area pretty regularly. It also gets pretty bad when I wear really flat/non-supportive shoes. For some reason heels don’t bother it at all, but my sandals that are practically pancakes make my feet pretty sore.

Reply

We just redid our bathroom floors in anticipation of renting out our house and they look so nice. Why didn’t we do it three years ago so we could enjoy it?? :(
I love number 4!
Everything seems to bother my feet, but the weirdest is I get super bad pains in my gas pedal foot. It starts in my heel and radiates through my arch and ankle. It’s happened forever, so I’m thinking the only cure will be driverless cars.

Reply

I have #4 in my bathroom and I absolutely love it!

Reply

I like #4, but I am into neutral colors. Props to you all for renovating. We are NOT into that kind of thing at all. Hence, our purchasing a condo. We like to do as little house maintenance as possible. Leaves more time for running, eating, sleeping:)

If I have to take long trips and sit in the car and/or airplane for a long time, then my hamstring starts to bother me. Ditto for Todd. I would love to visit Australia, but I just don’t think it is in the cards for me. I just cannot sit still as I get older!

Reply

Number 4 is by far the prettiest!

Reply

#6! Get tiles with dark grout, way easier to keep looking clean.

Reply

If you are going for a contemporary look, #4!

Interesting about stomach sleeping and your foot/ankle – makes sense to me though!!

I feel very strongly about this so if it quickly turns into a rant forgive me…I don’t like tiny tiles for bathroom floors. All I can think about are ALL those grout lines that are impossible to clean and all the germs and bacteria stuck in them. It grosses me out. Like this kind of tile is what my nightmares are about…seriously. However with all that said, I’m loving the color of #4! And I’m weird so don’t let my hate ruin your projects!!

Reply

#4 is gorgeous

Reply

#4 would be my selection!

I prefer stomach sleeping too. I scootch down enough that the edge of the bed is at my ankles so my feet can totally hang over the edge.

Now I want to paint MY house too!

Reply

I like 6, partially because it looks the easiest to clean! My bathroom floor isn’t tiled, it’s some sort of surface that looks like dark wood, and I love that.

Reply

That’s really interesting about your PF. I have had a few cases of serious PF and it always comes from very tight calves. I know if I foam roll or get a deep tissue massage on my calves I’m good to go.

It’s crazy to think how big Brooke is getting and that I’ve followed your blog throughout everything. Oh my stars, I remember when she was born!

Reply

I love #1! Retro, but still clean.

Reply

#2 because we have it!
We like it, and it always gets a ton of compliments.

Reply

I would do either #4 or #6. Do you get the eye lash extensions or some other kind that glues on?

Reply

I live tile number 2! I love that sort of vintage vibe it has going on. I would love to re-do my bathroom with that. Whatever you choose will look great though, nothing like new flooring! Post some pics after if you can, I love home make over stuff! Gosh I have bad feet too and I think how I sleep has something to do with it too. That and wearing the wrong heel height. I’m slowing transitioning out of heels at work to flats. So hard because I’m short and I love a good heel! :)

Reply

Don’t do white tile on the floor! I have it in my rental and it’s so so soooooo hard to keep clean with two adults and two big dogs. It looks very cool [I know/agree] but it’s ridiculously annoying. I can imagine with two adults, two kiddos and a pup that it would be impossible to keep clean. Do the marble grey, if your heart is set on the white look.

Reply

Love the #6 tiles! They look super clean and modern and I love the neutral tones.

Whenever I fly on a plane, my foot that was injured last year gives me trouble. I think it has to do with the swelling? After a few hours it feels fine again, but getting off the plane it always feels stiff and sore! It’s the ONLY time it ever bothers me!

Reply

My left achilles gets so ANGRY when I fly! Same exact thing. I think it’s the swelling.

My plantar fasciitis flares up when I eat too much sugar which is why I try my best to stick to an anti inflammatory diet. Stress also plays a big role in it.

Love #4! What a fun project to do together!

Reply

Careful with white tile, especially white tile with white grout! The grout inevitably shows dirt & it’s so so tough to get/stay clean. We had it in a previous house & the only way (after a few years of having it) to get it looking moderately close to white grout was on hands & knees with a scrub brush. :( And this was before kids. In our current house, we’ve redone two bathrooms & I will only do tile with darker grout (like a gray).

Reply

I like #6, excited to see the final product!

Reply

I like #4 and #6. We actually just bought a house so we are in the process of doing. Few things to it. Just painting for now. I’m having a terrible time deciding on colors. I have one room down and two to go. There are a few other renovations we want to do eventually but we are picking one to two a year and just taking our time.

Reply

My boyfriend literally just put down #2 in his bathroom. It’s nice but I don’t love the harshness of the black accent hex’s.
I like #5.
I always find my tendonitis in my ankles bothers me when on my stomach too. Try foam rolling your calves (especially along the outside) just before bed. It’ll loosen up those ankle tendons where they attach to the calf.

Reply

Sorry, but I LOLed when I read your first sentence, Sally! See why? Yes, I am a very immature 42 year old Maybe because despite my age, my kids are 7,6, and 2, and bathroom humor reigns in my house. Home for the summer (teacher) so I am around it 24/7. I agree with the harshness of the black on white, and while light grout is hard to keep clean, the dark grout to me looks dirty all the time from the get go.

Also, I follow your blog and enjoy it very much! Hope the freelancing continues to go well!

I lie 1 and 3.

In high school I fractured my shin and haven’t had a flare up ( except some shin splints here and there) until this week. Nothing but cross training for a couple of weeks for me. This isn’t a real fracture yet, just a swollen spot where I did fracture it earlier that is tender. Warning signs to stop what I’m doing, get new shoes, and pick back up in a couple of weeks.

Reply

I sleep on my stomach but scoot down in the bed so my feet are hanging off…used to get PTT issues (now my labral tear means I don’t get overuse injuries anymore–looking on the bright side!) but anyway that helps with my ankles!! It keeps my feet in a more neutral position and sleeping on my back now makes them feel weird haha!! :)

Reply

Without knowing what the other things in the bathroom look like, it’s hard to say, but just choosing by the prettiness of the tiles, I’d go with 4 or 6.

Reply

I really like #4! We just put an offer in on a house, so fingers crossed on that! We enjoy watching all of the HGTV shows on rennovations though. I have dealt with plantar fasciitis off and on for about a year now. Your theory about the sleeping is pretty accurate, from my understanding at least. They even make a sock that you can sleep in that holds you foot in a flexed position, stretching out those ligaments? tendons? I’m not a doctor, obviously. You can also roll your foot on a frozen waterbottle.

Reply

I like 6 :)

Reply

#4 or #6! I love doing house stuff… except for all the hard work! :)

Reply

5 is my favorite, I think it looks more classic and less trendy, but they are all good choices! Carrying my heavy toddler on one side of my body sometimes makes my hips hurt while I run.

Reply

I am torn between #4 and #6. I think both would be lovely and home renovation is so much fun! Ok – so I made a big mistake in buying my first house, which I won’t repeat, and I learned all about doing things on your own.

Hmm–I keep hearing about how wonderful foam rolling is, but I have yet to try it. Maybe I need to change this.

Reply

I like 4 & 6. My husband and I have renovated two houses and built our third. I actually picked out grout color while I was in labor with our 2nd child. I forgot to do it and they were there to start so I my FIL was nice enough to drive in and let me pick it. One of the fastest decisions I have ever made and I am happy with it still. Almost 2 years ago. 13 more days to be exact. :-)

Reply

I love 4 and 6! You are brave redoing that much, good luck!

Reply

Definitely #4 or #6 on the tile, the rest look a little too outdated. I’m excited for when we buy our first house next year and are able to fix it up and make it how we want it! I rock climb and do boot camp classes and sometimes I’ll hurt myself or be super sore for some runs. Most of the times the injuries I get are related to my weak hips and knees; I need to work more on stretching and doing strengthening exercises.

Reply

I love #4! Growing up, my parents redid THREE houses….like, gutted them out, having us pull staples from the floor, tearing off nasty wall paper, etc. I remember in college swearing to myself that I will never redo a house ever again. And now, I can’t wait to own my own home to fix up. Ha!

Reply

Number 6!! And I love to look at pictures of other people’s renos. I enjoy the small projects I have tackled on my houses.

I can see where you are coming from with the plantar fascitis therory. When mine is getting bad I sleep in a plantar fascitiis night splint (amazon has them). It keeps the foot flexed. I often wake up sometimes in the middle of the night becuase my foot starts to hurt but boy do I feel so much better in the morning.

I like number 4!!! It is always fun to do some house projects.. it is especially great when they are all done! ;)

We’re doing our basement right now. We’re putting in #3 with grey grout (easier cleaning). I love your options!

Reply

I also like #4 – I guess the black-dotted tile version would make me nervous :D

Concerning your plantar: For me that sounds absolutely reasonable! You should start your thesis writing right away ;)
I stopped sleeping on my stomach when my chiropractor told me that it would be better for my pelvis/hips/SI joint to lie on my back. It was tough for several nights but now I am used to it. And as an additional vallue my face looks brighter in the mornings. No wrinkles or edema. I guess its because the fluid inside my the body sinks down in the vessels and while lying on the stomach and face it accumulates here…. my theses topic, I see.

Reply

I’m gonna chime in w/ everyone else… #4 is my 1st choice, then #6. Have fun!

Reply

Don’t do a floor with white/light grout! It will get dirty so fast with kids and a dog. It will never look completely clean unless you’re scrubbing and bleaching it by hand. Our neighbors made that mistake, and less than six months later they hate their floor.

Reply

#3 or #4

I’m pretty sure we have #3 in our master bath and I love it! I am a fan of things looking clean and this tile does it! Everyone also always thinks it’s very high-end which I love!

I like 4, but I also LOVEEEE 6! I guess it depends on the color/size of the bathroom, too!!

#4 – absolutely love this one!

Love tile #4!

#4 or #6…maybe you have 2 bathrooms so you can get both?? :)

I think 4 would go well with the other colors in your house!

Reply

Love 4 and 6! We just purchased a house and are doing some projects as well. Just took out carpeting in the master and put in bamboo (looks like hardwood but super strong and sustainable). Also painted all the bedrooms. I love doing that stuff but it IS hard to fit around work and training, etc. My running actually took a hit for a month or so when we were heavy in to the renos. I just did a bunch of 3 milers as that was all I could fit in!

Reply

It is so easy to get sucked into home renovation projects!!! Luckily we aren’t in any right now. I like bathroom tile 6, the black dots in friends bathrooms always make me dizzy! :)

Reply

#4! I have tile similar to the top options and no matter how much you clean the floors they never look sparkling clean! It drives me nuts!

Reply

I love #4, plus it goes well with multiple colors and styles so you can change up your bathroom look in the future. I’d think I’d get tired of #1 and 2. Have fun, and please come do my house next.

Reply

I have #3; I like #2 & #3 the best. They’re definitely an old-fashioned look. The others are more contemporary.

Reply

#6!!!

2, 4, or 6 for the tile — I lean towards Classic styles. I’ve sure had my share of achilles issues from running, mostly tendonitis but also bursitis, which made my ankles look like a hockey player’s. I’ve learned never to skip out on stretching, esp. calves, and to ice my ankles several times a day on days when I run. I totally avoid wearing flat shoes and sandals — even heels are better than flats for my achilles issues. None of these were things I ever thought to do in my 20s but now that I’m older I have to take much better care of my body if I want to keep running!

#2 is my dream bathroom floor!!!

Reply

#4 and #6…but i like #4 the most!

Reply

I love art deco so black and white is always a winner for me. #2

Sure, sometimes strength training causes injury (usually too heavy weight or improper form). Another problem is I don’t pay attention all the time and I’ll trip or twist my ankle. silly things.

Looking at your leg while you sleep on your stomach I would agree. You’re foot is the opposite of how would be in the boot or the Stassburg sock. It’s like pointing your toe and your calf is in more of a flexed position. (apparently we could write a paper together).

I need to redo my kitchen floor, I’m hoping to bribe my cousin into helping me. (If I feed him he’s happy).

Reply

#4 is my favorite. A couple of the others look slippery. If it has a shiny finish = slippery = falls. Not to mention, #4 is so cute and it goes with almost everything. Be SURE to get self-sealing grout so it won’t get dirty.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing your progress!

4 &6 are my favorite! I have had plantar fasciitis for the past year and I noticed the same thing when i first started having lots of pain! I have a lot of trouble sleeping and when i cant sleep i roll to my stomach becauuse it is a comfort position for me. However it is awful for my neck, back, and feet! my chiropractor (the best doc to goto for feet problems) does Graston on them and they feel oh so much better. My feet have been fully healed of plantar for about 2-3 months now !

I just moved into a new apartment so I would do anything to be able to renovate the place instead of dealing with all the maintenance issues! The last person lived there for 9 years sooooo being able to modernize the place would be a dream come true! Also I may or may not have had about 5 emotional breakdowns over the past week while moving. I am such a creature of habit and routine person that this change is such a culture shock!! (Oh and #4 for the bathroom for sure!)

My ankle and feet flare ups used to come and go all the time. Until I purchased orthotics! I bought the Super Feet ones and it has been life changing! I can feel them work while I run or even walk. They make sure your foot is in the proper position with every step!

Tile #6! It’s gorgeous. My husband and I are doing some smaller renovations to our house, but I can’t wait until we re-do the bathroom.
Also, if Chip and Joanna could just come HGTV my entire house, that’d be awesome.

Yay for watermelon! And cantaloupe. I seriously don’t want summer (read: melon season) to end.

I agree with a comment I saw above, #6 with dark grout would be the easiest for cleaning and maintaining, but #4 is really pretty.

#2 (my parents have it & I love it!) or #6!

I’d like to add the caveat that they have #2 with black grout. Much easier to keep clean looking.

I love #6! I think the dark grout would be good in a bathroom. My husband and I bought an 1890s Victorian as a DIY fixer-upper, so we are constantly doing home renovation projects. We’ve been in the house three years and so far have done the kitchen (new floors, updated lighting, new cabinets, hand-made concrete countertops, penny round backsplashes, fresh paint after stripping three layers of wallpaper), the foyer (fresh paint after stripping wallpaper and repairing sections of crumbling plaster walls, new light fixture), and now the living room (again, fresh paint after stripping wallpaper and repairing plaster). Can you see a theme here? : ) : ) : ) Wallpaper wallpaper wallpaper–ugh! So, with all that painting you are doing, just remember it could be worse–at least you don’t have to first strip layer upon layer of old wallpaper and then repair the walls ; ) We are also getting ready to re-do the front porch, and this winter we will convert our laundry room into a pantry and build a new laundry room. Always something to do when you live in a 125-year-old house : ) As far as injuries, I am constantly trying to stay on top of my ITBS and achilles tendinitis. I have found that since I started doing yoga consistently it hasn’t been as much of a problem, but I still have to baby my hips and glutes to keep everything happy.

I like #4 or #6 — home reno is fun for a time — but I think the best part is when it’s done and you can enjoy all your hard work :) Excited to see the results of y’all’s home projects!

We just custom built our house and moved in a few months ago. We were hands on the entire process and picked out every single detail. After moving several times, we had a good idea of what we wanted and what we didn’t want. We went with a grayish tile that looks like wood floors for our bathrooms, mudroom, laundry room. We have hardwood throughout the rest of the house. We love that tile because it hides hair(three girls in the house who all shed like crazy) and it looks great with our gray painted walls and whote cabinets. Renovations are exhausting but worth it in the end. Plus you get to make the place your own together :)

Tiles 3 or 4 – pretty neutral so you don’t get tired of them in 10 years.

# 4 It is not too bold and not too neutral.. Love it!

oh guuuuurrrrlllll I’ve had PF for almost 2 years!!! I’m pretty much a pro. I’ve tried everything. If it’s hurting you most in the morning try sleeping in the Strassburg Sock. It’s a little annoying to get used to at first, but it seriously helps so much. It keeps the toes in a flexed position all night so when you first take a step in the morning your plantar is already stretched so it doesn’t re-tear. Does that make sense? All I know is my foot feels a million times better in the AM when I wear it at night!

I love #4 and #6. And I absolutely concur with everyone on using a tinted grout! It’s a really good idea to invest in having the floor sealed too. We bought a house that had tile throughout and all everyone said was how easy tile was to clean. LIES! The previous owners didn’t use tinted grout and they didn’t seal the floors. (I had no idea either was an option until we’d been there for almost a decade.) I’m not a neat freak (at all) but for 11 years that grout made me crazy.

Number 4 for sure! It matches the beautiful pain color y’all chose!

As far as injuries go, I have snapping hip syndrome which I guess happens frequently to people with dance and yoga backgrounds. The worst part is hiking. Any kind of uphill walking or running is excruciating. (And I live in Flagstaff, AZ…so…it sucks to not hike.) The good news is that I’ve been slowing rehabilitating it over the past year and it’s getting better. :)

I would go for #4 or #6! I have #1 right now in my apartment and it shows every speck of dirt really easily. I would go for more of a grey / varied color tile.

#6 is my favorite with #4 in second :)

Reply

4 or 6! The first three remind me of the tiles we had in the dorm bathrooms back in the day and let me tell you, they get old quickly!

Reply

I’m a BIG fan of 3! I don’t think you’ll grow tired of it, and you can throw in pops of color (if color is your thing) in the walls, accessories, and so forth. We just did a BIG bathroom remodel (and still need to add finishing touches). We were a bit fancy on some details, like the floor of the shower, but we used large white subway tile for the shower walls, and it looks fantastic!

Reply

I love #6! I love the tile and the darker grout, which I think would be easier to keep clean than a lighter grout.
I have found that laying on my side makes my inner ankles hurt the next day because one foot is resting on the other ankle. I’ve been having ankle problems for (6 months or so) and that time frame coincides with running on the treadmill more and wearing a new pair of Brooks Adrenaline. I am convinced they changed something in the ankle because my feet/ankles have always been happy in these shoes. Anyway, I switched to the Glycerins and my ankles are happier.

I’m pretty sure that your feet problems come from sleeping on your stomach!!
I’m an excessive stomach sleeper and I have the same pains in my feet soles (and neck, and back) almost every morning. Sometimes I wake up and feel like I’m 80 when I’m actually just 22?
You can buy pillows that make it uncomfortable for you to sleep on your stomach (I just throw them out of the bed in my sleep) but maybe it’s worth a try if you can’t just sleep in another position.
I guess I’m a hopeless case but maybe it works for you!

I like #6 or #4! We are actually in the midst of a bathroom renovation right now! We painted before we moved in and getting our floors stained and finished! We will eventually be tackling our kitchen (it doesn’t have an oven… what.. the… heck!!) i’m nervous for that beast… My dad has so graciously been remodelling our bathroom, but it’s been a larger project that anticipated… we thought (optimistically) that it would take a week and a half… we are going on 3 weeks this weekend… i’m praying it’s done by the weekend so we can have a bathroom again. (we just moved in over the weekend… did i mention we only have 1 bathroom!!!

I like tiles 4 and 5! I bet the house is going to look amazing when you guys are all done!

I’ve noticed when I skip working out for a couple of days, my plantar fasciitis flares up a lot more easily. Also, if I don’t roll out my foot for too many days in a roll. So staying active and being diligent about rolling it out have been the key to my slow but steady come back :)

We did #1 with a medium gray grout in the bathroom of our 1920’s home. The gray grout adds a modern twist (and easier to clean). I love 4 and 6, but those tend to stain in wet environments and get really slippery!

4 :)

Something to consider – the smaller the tiles, the more grout, the more grout, the more to clean. Larger tiles are definitely easier to clean. I am completely over my bathroom tile that is 2″x2″. My next bathroom will have HUGE tile!

For years I have played an electric keyboard at our church. We had it setup where we would stand to play it and that really hurt my left leg because I was always leaning on it and using my right foot/leg for the sustain pedal. The worst was on Sunday mornings after a long run on Saturday. Definitely not great for recovery.

i LOVEEEEEEEE number 1. looks so fresh & cool.

ps congrats again on Timp Half ;-)

I love #4! Have fun!

#4 is my favorite, but I would go with larger tile for my own sanity if I were you. Tiny tile takes forever to lay, even if your bathroom is small.

That is exactly right. It’s the way you’re sleeping. I have Achilles Tendinitis and when I sleep on my stomach my toes are pointed like I’m wearing high heels…(right??) and in the morning I can barely walk. If I sleep on my side or on my back I’m much better. Also…alphabets. My life was changed by alphabets with my feet. But yes. Nice job on figuring that out! Your doctor already knows.

#4 is my favorite! With #6 and #5 in a close tie behind it. Except that I despise cleaning white grout so it makes me want to put #6 before 5. But I still would go with #4 (even thought the grout isn’t dark- you could always choose a darker grout though!). The black and white tiles aren’t my style.

We were told when looking to redo our bathroom that white tile grout can be really difficult to clean and might make your floor look like it’s always dirty. It’s a bummer because I love the way it looks but I don’t want to spent all my time scrubbing the floor!

I love #4! Depending on what colors you are doing in the bathroom change to a light gray grout and spend the little extra money and time to seal it. Trust me, it will make all the difference.

I just follow along for fun. I’m not a runner but you’ll find me in the gym on the elliptical several days a week. ‘Run when chased’ is my motto.

4 & 6 are my favorite tiles!

I notice more problems with my feet and joints when I wear shoes without arch support at times when I am not running. If we spend so much money on good running shoes, we should be wearing shoes the rest of the time that also take care of our feet. I also notice that strength training is SO important in helping me avoid injuries. When I slack in that area, I start to notice more aches and pains.

I wouldn’t normally go for 2, but I just saw someone redo their bathroom with this subway tile pattern and its adorable. 4 is also a great option :)

I love #4! I love doing house projects! I just painted my upstairs game room on Satuday. So far I have painted every room in the house except the office and Laundry room. Unforrtunately I will have to get a professional come in to paint the 2 story entry :(

I love 4, but 6 is also beautiful and the darker grout would be nicer for cleaning long term!!!

I would avoid white tile and white grout. You will be bleaching that all the live long day.

6! #4 is a close second.

#3, #4, or #6. Hard to say- not knowing the style of the bathroom. Hope you post a few pics when you’re done. I love seeing peoples renovations :)

That ice pop looks so perfect for me right now!

#3 & #6 are my favorite tiles! So much fun re-doing a house (minus the actual work)!

I’m not exactly sure if it’s sciatica, but sometimes I get an awful pain in the back of my thigh & it radiates down to my outer calf/up to my butt. Sometimes it re-appears during running. Sometimes I get it just sitting at my work desk.I know that I need to be better with strength training/stretching in order to get this better.

I can rarely sleep in any other position but on my stomach so that would make me cry.
There are so many home decorating/remodeling projects I want to do in my new house! Unfortunately our budget has limits (wah!) so things will have to wait. We did get everything painted and new flooring in about 75% of the house before we moved in. (30 year old shag carpet! Nonono!)

Pick 6. Bigger tile equals less grout to clean – esp for a bathroom.

Also another poster mentioned the Strassbourg sock which pulls your foot opposite to what you are doing sleeping facedown. So your theory might be on target. I can barely walk in the morning these days so maybe I need those socks too.

1, 2, and 3 seem rather old-fashioned/standard. #4 is my fave! Pretty, modern, but still neutral.

We completely renovated out kitchen when we moved in 5yrs ago. Since that cost an arm and a leg I pinterested ideas on how to stain honey colored cabinet to the same dark espresso we had in the kitchen for the rest of the house. Right after my daughter was born I did the cabinets in the hall, 2 baths, and all the cabinets in the laundry room. Just last year I finally finished up the huge master with new granite tops. Now all the cabinets match with the same hardware. They look awesome and was def worth all the sweat and tears. I love a good house project!

I love tile #4! I can’t wait to see what you guys decide on!

Oh my gosh, #6 is amazing!!

I have #1 in my bathroom and I would say no…..I loved it at first but its very specific and you can never change your mind with colors. Also so hard to keep white grout clean….. I LOVE #4 : )

Bathroom tiles – #4 and #6. Softer than the black & white choices, and it would make for a more relaxing environment.

100% Number 4!

#4 is my fav! As for sleeping on your stomach you just gotta slide a little further down in the bed. Then your feet can hang off the end and not have to point your toes all night :-)

I love numbers 4 and 6!
Also, I am so glad I found your blog because my husband and I are praying about moving to Utah this fall, and your blog has lots of great things to let me know about the area.
Regarding the running: I think your sleep theory makes perfect sense. I look forward to your dissertation.

Oohhhhh I love ALL those tile options but #6 is my favourite!!! Mind you I have a minor obsession with all things black and white and marble related to bathroom decor #sorrynotsorry ;)

My fiance and I are renovating our house (slowly…) and we just finished the bathroom – take a look at our IG (@rowhousereno >> https://www.instagram.com/rowhousereno/) for another tile option you might like it’s black and white marble but in a basket weave pattern.

Good luck choosing! :)
