Getting closer…. and one of my sister’s talents.

Just our favorite smoothies to start off our Saturday.

Running didn’t end up happening yesterday morning but I figured it was more than okay because I had a solid week with an 18 miler, some speed on Friday and 51 miles already for the week—>  two days off from running this weekend wouldn’t put a big damper on marathon training.  We had hours and hours of painting ahead of us (and Andrew’s family meeting us early to help us paint) so a rest day (from running) ended up working out perfectly.

We picked up Beretta and then we were off to the house to paint.

Turns out this yellow wall needed just a little bit of TLC to get it to the gray color that we picked out together.

IMG 2380

Andrew was busy spraying the ceiling.

IMG 2404

And I am very glad that we were able to get a majority of everything done while the kids are both away.  There was a LOT of paint/everything possible everywhere.

IMG 2403

I made just a few stops at The Home Depot because we kept forgetting everything.  The workers there kept telling me that they would see me again soon whenever I was checking out;)

IMG 2393

After that we met my sister and her family to pick out flooring.  This little dude is getting too fast to actually catch on camera.

I need his smile on my face during my next marathon.

IMG 2406

My sister has many talents and one of her many talents being—>  she is AMAZING at picking out colors and finding the absolute best deal possible.  She saved us a whole lot of money yesterday.  I owe her big time.

IMG 2417

The flooring and carpet we picked out.  I cannot wait.

IMG 2415

The only use of running shoes yesterday was for painting… I always keep my old pairs of shoes to do stuff like this.

IMG 2427

We made dinner together and then rested for a bit on the grass before starting the painting again.

IMG 2424

Oh and we grabbed a little bit of candy and a movie to finish the night off strong.

IMG 2450

PS my brother posted this pic of me as a baby on Facebook recently so I thought I would post it on here too.

My marathon is one week before yours so I did my 18 miler yesterday! It went pretty well, considering it is my first time marathon training since my son was born 6 years ago. I’ve done mutliple HM during that time but marathon training is always so exciting and scary at the same time! I think I grew a second stomach during that 18-miler because I ate an incredible amount of food last night!

Landon and I didn’t paint yesterday, but we moved a whole lot of furniture into our new condo! :) with baby T coming in 5 weeks, I’m anxious m to get everything done asap.

No running for me this weekend, still dealing with my sprained ankle. Eh. Hopefully this week I’ll be able to run, at least a little bit!

Love the floors and carpet!! Can’t wait to see it all come together :)

We’re moving in a month or so and we’re currently in pack phase! We have so much stuff everywhere because we’ve never been able to settle for long.

I went for a run last night in the moonlight because it’s been so hot and humid here. I was still a ball of sweat when I got back, but I’m happy I went because I needed it!

Way to go getting so much done! Can’t wait to see how it looks!

That carpet and flooring look almost exactly like what we just put in our new home. I love it! Our first home we did a lot of diy but this house needed a ton of work and we wanted it done before we moved in so we hired pros.

Thankfully we don’t have to worry about moving or painting, but we’ve been rearranging the house so everything is kind of everywhere right now. The main benefit to reorganizing for me is that all the little piles of clutter we’ve gotten used to are finally getting a spot where they belong, or thrown away. I hate cleaning, so clutter is the bane of my existence — toddlers love to find the clutter and make huge messes with it, so the less there is, the less I need to clean :)

I save my old running shoes to walk in since I only use them to run although it’s now been 5 years of running for me and it’s hard for me to part with them! I’m always like oh my first marathon was in those etc lol …but I live near the beach and it’s good to keep those old ones for sand running (can’t get sand outta nothin)
DIY projects can be fun! Work but fun especially when you see the final product and I LOVE the floors you chose!!!

Wow your weekend sounds fun. We’ve painted a few things at my house but since we aren’t home owners, nothing too serious.

My weekend of running has gone well too. I ran my longest run post injury and felt decent. I actually donate all of my running shoes. They get sent to Philadelphia or Camden.

Oooooh I love the carpet & flooring you picked out. Can’t wait to see the final product!

When we bought our house last year, we painted the entire thing. It was a huge project, but I’m so glad we did! We painted most of the house Benjamin Moore’s Owl Grey–which grey did you choose?

Annette! Thank you so much:) It seriously is the longest project ever ha… we are using Behr White Metal!! You are giving me hope that this project will end soon and be worth it ha! MISS YOU!

I love that flooring – do you mind saying where you got it and what color it is? I’m doing my second floor (right now it is a splintery mess of old wood flooring) and I’d love a recommendation. Thanks!

HELLO!!! YES!!! Okay, so I don’t remember the exact names of them and we left the samples with the guy but we got them from Flooring Liquidators and as soon as we meet with him again I will get the exact names. They are BY FAR the cheapest in the area and they have the best selection of products. My sister did a ton of research and they won.

I’m having my sons room redone this week so im currently trying to pick a paint color! Not easy to decide! I’m not a DIY person for home stuff but I envy those who can do it

Reply

We just moved into a new home and the ceilings were painted the same color as the walls. I decided it would be a great idea to paint the ceilings white. Let’s just say that after two rooms we decided to hire out the rest.

Reply

HAHA Yeah… I actually asked Andrew this morning if we should hire someone to finish. THIS IS NO JOKE!!!! Hope you are loving your new ceilings Rene’!!!

The flooring you picked out looks beautiful! It’s going to go great with the walls. I’m not a big DIY-er (or a crafty person in general), but I’m sure that the satisfaction that comes from completing a project like that would be a great feeling. This was a pretty solid running weekend … I got 16 in yesterday and an easy 6 today. Happy Sunday!

Your sister’s little boy looks like you did when you were a baby! That big, endearing smile is genetic. :)

Reply

Oh really!?! That makes me so happy! I can’t wait to show my sister your comment… I always say her kids look like me;)

I had 13 planned yesterday but I just was not feeling it, so I got up early and got it done today! Running after vacation is no joke! We built a house in 2013, so not too many projects yet but we did the floors and paint at our old house and if I never have to do that again, that’s okay!

The longest I’ve ever been in an apartment of my own was a year and half ! So I never get to really decorate and settle into a place. Looking forward to the time when I have my own place for longer and can decorate/re-do it the way i like!

My running sneakers I ran my first marathon in I’ve kept as a momento ;) but the rest of my old shoes usually end up going to my mom. for some reason, she likes to use my old sneakers for walking, paining, cleaning, etc.

I’ve been super super sore this weekend, so I skipped my run. did get myself out to a spin class though!

I’m moving into a new apartment in a week and it’s finally starting to hit me that I have so much to do! I just got back from a week long cruise (best vacation ever) with my family and boyfriend so I haven’t started to think of moving yet!
The gym on the cruise looks out onto the water! It was amazing! Except for when we were docking into port one day and I was running on the treadmill. Let’s just say I was rocking all over the place! Running is really tough on the ship so I took some of the amazing spin classes they offered! It was my boyfriends first spin class and I don’t think he was prepared for how hard they are! But it was so worth it since all the food on the ship is free!

Your painting adventures are bringing back memories! My husband and I bought a house in September, and we spent the first couple weeks painting the downstairs and recently finished every room. We’re not too speedy! In June we saved up to have new floors in, I love it, and the carpet is so soft!!!! Paint and floors definitely make it a new house! We spent many weekends and after work evenings at the Depot! Call them our “Depot-Dates,” so your trips made me smile! Good luck on all of the projects, it will be so nice!

I keep my old shoes for mowing the lawn and project shoes too.

This weekend has been pretty relaxed but hopefully making an IKEA trip with a friend to shop for classroom supplies. Have a great rest of the weekend!!!

Congrats on your house and all of your PAINTING and floors:) I am definitely going to call them Depot-Dates now! We sure spend a lot of time there together now ha. Have so much fun at IKEA and grab a cinnamon roll while you are there.

I keep one pair of old running shoes to wear for just daily use and one for yard work/ camping/ whatever.

What kind of Jamba Juice is that?

I don’t think I have random talents but I think it takes someone else to recognize your take tax Like I can see my sister has the talent of decorating and maybe she knows what mine are. Anyway…I grew up in a total DIY house. We lived in a pre-Civil War house that needed a lot of care. We tore down walls, built walls, tore out carpet, laid flooring, you name it, we probably did it.
My old shoes always become my mowing shoes.

Reply

“your own” somehow became “your tax”. Sorry. You know what I meant, right?

We did so much work in our house when we bought in 2001. Painted every.single.room. Swapped out doors. I primed, painted, carved out and installed French doors going to the sunroom.
Wallpaper…gone. Carpeting…gone. Installed wood flooring (laminate). We even changed the light switch plates!
I grew up fixing things and taught my husband how to use all the tools and he became quite handy!
It’s so exciting! Nothing refreshes a house like a new coat of paint though!

When we moved into our house 5yrs ago the entire hose was freshly painted white except for 2 rooms. Envision blue like the sky and another room yellow like the sun. I didn’t know what I was doing back then but the rooms turned out ok. Just don’t like close. Then we did a complete kitchen gut and one of the walls needed to be painted. Picked out a great neutral gray, researched online and watched a ton of YouTube videos to learn how to cut lines. Doing all that paid off and then I went a little crazy and started painting any wall I could get hands on! In the end I repainted the 2 original rooms b/c I couldn’t handle the lines. The little OCD in me. I cant wait to see how the paint and flooring comes out. I’m sure it’s beautiful.

I snap a photo of my old running shoes so I always remember them! :)

Omgosh I love DIY. I love home projects and crafts and I want to build a new bookshelf soon. Have fun painting! I also have gray walls and love them.

I donate my old running shoes once I feel that the cush is gone.

My weekend running was great. I had a lot of fun running my 5k yesterday, and I’m taking today easy.

A whole day of house work/painting is tiring and exhausting. I can’t imagine having done that after a long run too. Good call on taking the day off. I remember your sister being the deal/coupon queen…good to know she is still using her mad skills.

Andrew was telling ross and I all that you guys had planned to do, which is a lot, but I was thinking how awesome it is that he knows how to do it all and that you guys can redo this house together. It is a lot of work but it will be so rewarding and nice when you are done. Baaaasically you guys are like Chip and Joann. I want before and after pics.

Does your family have a New Zealand connection?! I’ve noticed both your nephews wearing All Blacks clothing in your sister’s post & this one?! Sooo fun to see – our little country doesn’t get much exposure!!

Reply

omg I LOVE BERETTA!!!! Sooo cute! And your nephew’s outfit is adorable, he looks like a mini soccer player! Can’t wait to see your house all put together!

I always save my old running shoes ….. we often go walking around our land and fish in our pond…. it can get quite muddy here!!!! Also, I use it for outside chores too! We garden about 3 acres and again, shoes get very dirty!

Ahhhhhhhhh, painting…… oh yes, that is something on my DIY list…. I keep putting git off due to trying to do as many fun activities with my son since he is on summer break…. but, I think once school starts on 2 weeks, I will put painting priority!!! Been promising my son a “new” room…… he has been very patient!

Saturday, I ran a very hilly 5k and then today my long run……boy, my legs were feeling the hills!!!!! But, I did place in 1st in age group and received a cute little running shoe instead of a medal…… With the hills, my time wasn’t the best, but some how managed to snag the 1st in age group….. perhaps the really speedy people decided to sleep in!! LOL!

I’m painting my new place next month and am thinking of “going gray” as well.

My weekend running was a 5k race, and I finished with (for me)an amazing time, 23:17 and a PB! I’m one happy girl!

We completely remodeled our house before moving in 2+ yrs ago, & I can totally relate to spending SO MUCH time at the hardware store (Menards, for us). We would be there at 9:00 on a Sat. night after having painted ALL DAY! Painting the ceiling is no joke! Oh, & that yellow wall had to go… yikes! Love the new carpet & flooring!

Reply

I did the same thing with my old running shoes! So now, I have spots everywhere on them. ha! good times. We did a lot- we did a lot of painting (and it really was scary trying to get up on the ladder to paint the walls because we have vaulted ceiling), took apart the entire first floor’s carpet, tiles, and laid down our own tiles (that look like wood, and have the textures too), did the baseboards, and now, we’re just in this phase of feeling burned out from all the reno. We hired the pros to do our kitchen and the bathroom downstairs- we made sure to have a Japanese style bathroom for the downstairs. Eventually, we’ll do the upstairs but I have no idea when that will be…. ha!
Good luck with all the painting and flooring! I cannot wait to see the new update.

My latest project was painting my deck (3 different areas of deck) which was a lot more challenging than I had thought..

Old running shoes are hoarded in the basement –> I find it SO hard to part with my kicks!

Reply

Look at that puppy! So cute! I bet he was a great painting helper, inspecting everything and managing the two of you :)

No DIY projects at the moment, but I’m moving closer to buy a new condo so then there will be lots of stuff going on. I am looking forward to it!

I LOVE that wood flooring! We are thinking of replacing some of our carpet and need lighter wood. Where did you find that???
