The rodeo, speed/race shoes and a little tiny peak at my wedding dress!

We ran into some of our favorite peeps at the local rodeo last night.  Summer nights do not get much better than this.

Strawberry Days Rodeo = you MUST get the strawberries and cream.  This was Andrew’s first experience with this goodness and he know understands why I went on and on about it leading up to the rodeo.

IMG 0138

Some other treats made sure to make an appearance too.

IMG 0137

We found Brooke’s new favorite thing in life.  The rodeo.  She was squealing and cheering and going nuts over everything pretty much the entire time.

IMG 0150

And her reaction…

IMG 0172

To the motorcycle jumps.  I had no idea she was so into this kind of stuff but now that we know that the kiddos loved it, we will be going to a few more of these this summer.

IMG 0153

They were too busy watching the show to smile for a pic.  I’ll take that as a good sign.

IMG 0129

Strawberry Days, you are our newest family tradition.  Year #1 was a success.

IMG 0108

But leading up to Strawberry Day’s was not so much a success ha… it was a drive-thru Chick-Fil-A and everyone eat in the car kind of a meal because we were all hangry;)  It sure tasted good though.

IMG 0104 1

Okay, let’s talk about earlier on in the day… I had my first dress fitting.  The dress I found was the sample and they are making mine from the very start (which means a lot of fittings).  The lace came in yesterday and it is gorgeous (the entire dress is lace which I am in love with).

IMG 0092

A few more random things I feel the need to discuss.

*I’m actually pretty good at eating lunch with one (and sometimes two) 3 year olds using me as a jungle gym.

IMG 0087

*My sister-in-law sent me this picture and it made my afternoon.

IMG 0090

*My mom sent me this because she says it is her new motto:

IMG 9724

*Hanging out on Andrew’s porch.  Pretty stoked to be moving in here soon.

IMG 9994

*Family’s that nap together, stay together;)

PicMonkey Collagie

My run yesterday = 8 miles @ 8:05 average pace with 50 push-ups afterwards (with a break after each set of ten:)

————————————————————

Let’s talk about shoes for speed work and/or racing!  In the past my favorite speed shoes for shorter intervals (800s and shorter) were the PureConnect and then the PureFlows or PureCadence for race day….

But now——>  I might have found one of my new favorite racing/speed work shoes with these babies.  The women’s NEURO from Brooks!  I felt like I was bouncing off the ground with each push-off. I feel energy with each step. I can’t wait to try these out on the track because I always feel more spring on the track than the roads and the combo of these plus the track = I can’t wait.  Brooks put in the Dynamic Hammock System which they say helps the shoe to fit (and I felt like it did too) like a second skin!

IMG 0062

The sole of these shoes look different than any other pair of running shoe I have ever tried.  The Neuro is a neutral shoe that is lightweight and made to enhance performance (aka run faster and more efficient:).  The shoe is perfect for road running/racing and it weights in at 7.9 oz!  The top of the shoe is made with mesh to keep your feet nice and dry.  I feel like I will be able to get more miles out of these than from the Pure line.  I’ll keep you updated with how they do during a race (so far I have just used them for a tempo, normal runs and shorter intervals ((1-2 minute repeats)—> about 50 miles total).  PS the Launch 3s are currently my go-tos but I’m stoked to have an awesome option for speed now too.

IMG 0077

————————————————————–

Do you use different shoes for your speed work vs all of your other runs?  Specific racing shoe?

What is your run today!?! Fill me in on the details?

What did your wedding dress look like or what does your dream wedding dress look like?

Weirdest food combos that your kids/friend’s kids/nieces/nephews have come up with?

-That oreo sandwich is pretty bizarre.

I pretty much combine anything and everything that is leftover in the fridge when I make a salad….I always tell my kiddos that it tastes great even though it looks gross….and I go as far as offering them a bite but they never take one. ;-(

Hooray for rodeo! This Texan approves!<3

Deets of my run today = zero miles, with 10 x zero resting intervals.
(it's rest day, derp.)

I mean…I don't have kids, and not sure what the nephs/nieces eat (I don't get updates like you, ugh!), but one of my fifth graders told me about a cheeseball covered in Nutella the other day. And now I want one.

i have a choice today- if it’s nice out, i’m doing hill repeats, if it’s raining (which it looks that way) it’s treadmill hill repeats . lol

I actually ran last night so today is a rest day. My si joints are irritated so I need to work on that.
My wedding dress was sort of Greek goddess style. It had an empire waist but my favorite part were the buttons that when all the way down the back. It had cap sleeves and a square neckline. If I ever get married again I probably wouldn’t go with square neckline. I was young. Lol.

Rest day for me, my hips are still wildly sore (I don’t think it helped that I rearranged our entire bedroom last night. Nesting phase? Nailed it.)

My wedding dress was white with pearls, decals, and lace! It was huge on me when I first got it, (for $25!) so I had a lot of dress fittings too. (I was totally okay with that though!)

Can’t wait to see you in your dress!

Reply

Any excuse to wear all the shoes is a good excuse so yeah I wear lots of different shoes ;)

Reply

I ran 9 miles this morning. Now time to go to work. I wear Brooks Adrenaline for all my runs but am looking to get different shoes for my speedwork. Thanks for the review on the Neuros. I think I will try them out!

A weird food combination I did as a kid was creamy french dressing on white rice.

Reply

I’m guilty of using the same shoes for everything. I know I shouldn’t, but I do.

I once saw my sister put peanut butter and bbq sauce on a salad. On the same salad. It looked gross but I could be wrong, maybe she’s on to something!)

My wedding dress wasn’t what I expected at all. I always said I would never wear a strapless dress and it was strapless and just not what I ever in my head would have picked but I loved it!

Strawberry Days looks so fun, and I REALLY want to try the strawberries and cream thing!! I might need to make a road trip.

I used to have racing shoes, but now I pretty much wear my Kinvaras for everything.

I have a lot of food combos that people think are strange. I eat Wheat Thins with anything and everything, and I put ketchup on a lot of things that others wouldn’t. I recently ate a waffle folded up with a chewy granola bar inside of it for a waffle-granola sandwich. It was quite tasty! :)

Reply

My miles yesterday were 0 and instead opted to take my little girls swimming…that was way more fun than running in the 100+ degree heat (it’s hot and humid in South Texas).
I dip french fries in Wendy’s frosty’s which isn’t really that weird as far as i’m concerned since I’ve seen a lot of people do it.
My wedding dress wasn’t a wedding dress at all…it was a short cupcake poofy dress I saw at Macy’s and I got it for $30! I did elope in Vegas though so it kinda fit the scene perfect!

Reply

Pretty lace! I used to use different shoes but then would wind up feeling off after speed/racing so just started sticking to more support. Strange food? My daughter loves making cucumber ketchup sandwiches and swears they’re like pickles but better, lol.

Reply

I got to skip wedding dress fittings – my dress was on clearance at Ralph Lauren and was 100% lycra. Left us more time to talk about important wedding stuff, like cake.

Reply

I did 60 long, hot minutes on the treamdill which was 6.4 miles. My pregnant self has trouble the first 30 minutes of every run and the magically it all comes together!

Reply

WAY TO GO SARA!! Rocking the pregnant running!!!

Reply

no run today, but a short run on the past two days which means I’m beating my injury slowly but surely! so excited.

weird food combination: graham crackers and cream cheese. I love it. it’s like cheesecake, but way easier and 100x more easy to put together. highly recommended yummmmm

My wedding dress was super simple..we did just a two of us wedding in Belize in the middle of the jungle so I just got a flowy maxi dress from Express! It worked perfectly and the way the wind was blowing made it look so beautiful. I can’t wait to see yours!

Reply

My mom is very ill, and I haven’t felt like running (I am currently in the “eat my feelings” stage of things, instead), so my goal today is just to get outside and run. I don’t even care how fast or how far I go.

p.s. that lace is beautiful – I’m so happy that you’re so happy :)

Reply

Jill, I am truly so sorry about what you are going through and you and your mom are in my thoughts and prayers. Keep me updated on how you guys are going and I hope you had a cleansing run today. Thank you and I’m really so sorry.

Reply

Right now I use Connects for my shorter runs, Flows for my mid runs and Launch for anything long. I am trying to get away from Connects as they are hard to find now but I can’t seem to find anything comparable. The Flows don’t fit the same as the Connects. I might have to try these Neuros out and see what they are like.

Reply

I’ve been wondering about the Brooks neuro. It’s one shoe I’m too familiar with, thanks for sharing.

I have been running in Saucony shoes but once I come back from injury I think I’m going to switch back to Asics. I need more cushion and support in my metatarsals.

Reply

I have two shoes that I rotate – the Mizuno Wave rider and the Mizuno Wave creation, both pretty hefty shoes. Creation is for anything over 5 miles – i find that in shoes that are too soft my heels hurt at long distance. As a 190-200lb runner, I really have found that I need more substantial shoes to keep my feet happy, so no minimalist or racing kicks here. I do want to get a Brooks Ghost to rotate back in, though, i enjoyed those a few seasons ago.

My wedding dress was a strapless mermaid fit through the knees and then a fun, girly puff for the rest. I ended up going for ivory because my mom, bridesmaids, and I agreed that white washed me out way too much.
No run today. My body needs some extra rest and my goal right now is getting back from injury before I start training for CIM in August.

Reply

My dress was strapless with 25 buttons going down the back. I had one removed to make 24, my husbands favorite number!

Reply

That’s such a neat detail. Love it!

Reply

Okay, that is AWESOME!!!!!!

My wedding was just over 2 years ago and my dress was perfect. It was a sleeveless slight sweetheart neckline with lace on most of it. The bottom was tulle and lace. It had a corseted back which was item #1 on my list of must haves. I originally wanted one with sleeves or a boat neck, but the second I tried this one on I burst into tears. I still have it hanging in my guest room closet. One of my best friends just got married a few weeks ago. We are planning a day in October that a group of us who recently got married are going to have a girls day at home and watch movies in our wedding dresses. It will be fun to put it on again! =)

Reply

Kelly, that sounds absolutely beautiful!!! I’ll be there in October for this party in wedding dresses:) Sounds like a blast!

Reply

My dress was all lace too — oh my goodness I loved it :) I need to host one of these “wear your dress” parties I’ve been hearing about so I can wear it again!! Can’t wait to see yours — August is a great month to be married in too — we celebrate two years August 9th!

Have a great Thursday!

Reply

Invite me to that party too please and we can rock our lace dresses:) Congrats on almost two years yahoo:) Hope your Thursday is a good one!

3 easy miles on the treadmill. Trying to kick a nagging pain in what I think is my Achiles that I’ve had since January so low and slow for me lately.
My wedding gown was strapless, lace bodice, tulle skirt, kind of goldish ivory.
One of my kids adores ketchup and he will even dip his strawberries in any remaining drops of ketchup on his plate. I refuse to actually put the ketchup on his strawberries for him. I bribed him once to try something new and the trade off was I had to try strawberries and ketchup and it was seriously one of the worst things I’ve ever eaten.

Reply

I’m a Brooks girl! I train in the Launch and race in the Cadence or Flow. The Neuros look pretty cool! I’m hoping to squeeze in 5 – 7 easy miles this evening after work :) My wedding dress was all lace, with a sweetheart neckline and an open back. I absolutely loved it and I would’ve never pictured myself in an all lace dress, but it was perfect! When I was younger my best friend’s family ate cheese on donuts, which sounds really bizarre, but is actually good! It’s like a really sweet grilled cheese!

Reply

I love rodeos!!!! So glad Brooke enjoyed it too! You all need cowboy hats now! Oh my and those strawberries and cream, yummy!!!!

My wedding dress was pretty simple, I’m not good with fashion terms, but it had a sheer overlay with some pearls on the bodice, a small train, but shorter in front(I found it at a breast cancer dress sale, so it may have belonged to a shorter bride), but I liked it because I didn’t trip and it allowed me to show off my turquoise shoes! It also had a lace-up back, and I had a jacket-shrug made that matched the sheer material.

Your lace looks so pretty!! Eek!! Exciting! :)

I just got a pair of shoes for tempo work, normally I just have a second pair of shoes that I switch off with. The running store suggested I try this since I’m planning on following the Hanson’s method for my marathon.

I wedding dress had a sweetheart neckline and a cathedral train. I loved it but it was so heavy. I’d go simple if I were ever to do it again. (I tell my husband this, he shakes his head).

Short run today, I have a 10K this weekend that I wasn’t expecting to do.

Reply

I honestly don’t do much speed work…….I know, I need to! I just have 2 or 3 pairs of runners at a time. I only use them for running and I keep strict count of the miles on them. Those new Brooks look cool, may have to get some!
My run today is going to be hot………..hopefully 4 miles, but I expect it to be slow……………going to be over 90 degrees!
My wedding dress was a ball gown……..no train, tulle skirt, nothing that could wrinkle, beading on the bodice, and a halter top. I LOVE IT!!! I put it on again about 8 months after we got married and took some photos out on an abandoned horse farm outside Nashville……………those photos came out beautiful!!
And oreo sandwich………that’s weird! My siblings used to put ketchup on their macaroni and cheese…….I thought it sounded disgusting!

Reply

I have four pairs of shoes that I rotate, but I don’t really use any of them for specific purposes. Today I have an easy 3 miles on the schedule followed by mowing the lawn and then a community band concert. I actually wore my sister’s wedding dress for my wedding and it was perfect! So beautiful and it felt special to share that with her.

Reply

My wedding dress was mostly lace too, with sleeves and an open back. It wasn’t at all what I went into the stores looking for but totally had the cliche moment of putting it on and knowing it was the one!

I have to ask….did you and Andrew match intentionally at the Strawberry Days Rodeo? So cute!

Reply

HAHAH I don’t think we did it on purpose but I did it subconsciously I’m sure:) Okay, your dress sounds BEAUTIFUL!! Your story of knowing it was the one made me happy!

Reply

Looks so much fun! And your dress looks perfect, can’t wait to see it in August!

I know it is simple, but I have been looking for a perfect red striped tee like the one you are wearing for the 4th. Where did you get the one you are wearing?

Reply

MADEWELL!! It is amazing:) You will love it! I’ll include all of the links to my clothes lately in tomorrow’s post too!!! It is perfect for the 4th!

Reply

My kids love the rodeo too! Brooke might want a horsie now!
My dress was strapless and simple as I’m short and petite I didn’t want to look like I was playing dress up:) but I love lace!

Reply

My dress had lots of beading and it was a ball gown so it had a bigger skirt.

When I was little I used to like saltine crackers with butter and jam on it. Now I question my sanity on that one a little bit.

Reply

I love talking wedding dresses! I would choose mine all over again! Big princess ball gown bottom, very simple strapless top with satin little roses scattered about the bottom. The bottom was satin with a layer of tulle. Had to describe but so pretty. It was a Lazaro gown and my eyes are still drawn to all Lazaro dresses! Always makes me smile when I see a wedding gown today that I love and then learn its Lazaro. My taste hasn’t changed!

Reply

That Oreo sandwich looks tempting! The weirdest thing I eat which in not sure is really weird at all is cantaloupe and cottage cheese.

Reply

I wear the same shoes for normal runs, speed work, races, etc. but I use different shoes for lifting and cross training

I have been having some leg pain so I am taking a few days off from running. I am worried it’s another stress fracture so I am being very careful before it takes me out for months! I cross trained and did abs today!

My younger cousin used to eat cheetos with EVERYTHING when she was younger! She always had that gross orange cheese on her every time I saw her haha

Reply

I am stoked for you.

Reply

Thank you:) That makes me really happy! Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!

Reply

My last two weeks have been filled with driving all over town to shoe stores, trying to find a pair of running shoes that my daughter likes. She keeps worrying that there might be a “better” pair out there for her! She still hasn’t made up her mind. I don’t even want to think about the multitude of shoe choices available right now! :)
The rodeo looks like a lot of fun!

Reply

Looking good in those Oiselle shorts!

Reply

Oh thank you:) Oiselle shorts are my absolute favorites!!! Hope you enjoy the rest of your day Kaitlyn!

Sadly, the Neuros were the first miss for me from Brooks. It was mostly the tongue, it was huge and had really rough edges. It ripped up my ankles. Can’t say I’ve ever paid that much attention to a tongue before.

Reply

INTERESTING… I didn’t notice the tongue but I have had that problem with a pair of the flows a few years ago and it drove me crazy… I actually cut the tongue so it wouldn’t hit my skin. Can you return them or try trimming them? BUMMER!

Reply

Rain drove me to the dreadmill where I only mustered 2.7 of the 4 miles I was supposed to run. So darn hot running with no wind blowing.

I am an ASICs kinda guy who loves my ancient (but purchased new in box) GT-2170s, which I still train in. But I wised up and now I run races with brand new ASICs DS Racers. They are about 4+ ozs lighter a piece and they still have some stability features. I like them a lot (said Forrest Gump style). I think they would be good for up to 10 miles at a time, but probably not a half or a full.

I eat mac and cheese with ketchup and mustard and I always get SO MUCH grief about it. I don’t get it. You’re already eating hot dogs or burgers with it, most of the time.

Reply

I put ketchup on my mac and cheese sometimes too:) Great job still getting on the treadmill today…. the starting part is the hardest part sometimes and all treadmills should come equipped with wind machines ha. Enjoy the rest of your day Clark!

Reply

No run today- I am hooked on my Thursday morning Spin class at the gym, so it was a cross-training day.

I rotate Mizuno Wave Riders and PureCadence randomly right now. Love them both.

Beautiful lace on your dress! Mine was strapless, white, a-line with train and satin-covered buttons up the back, and was covered in beaded embroidery. I loved it but man, was it HEAVY. Even with the perfect fit, I still had to pull it up fairly often, which I didn’t love.

Reply

What a fun time at the rodeo! I’ve never been!

Reply

I ordered a “Sorry for what I said at mile 20” tank in the first round of orders. It said it would arrive between May 27-June 6 and I still don’t have it :((( Do you know if anyone else had this problem with teespring?

Reply

NOON are you serious!?!? Lame. I will email my guy right now that works directly with Teespring. Will you email me your confirmation number or receipt that they emailed you? Then we can get yours out directly! SO SORRY!

Reply

I rode my bike today. My body is a lot happier when I cross train and only run 3-4 times a week.

My wedding dress was all lace! 25 years ago last month.

Reply

Haha you’ll be wearing the same dress I wore :) GREAT dress and awesome back, no??

Reply

The lace of your dress looks beautiful! My fiancé and I are getting married the week after you, I love hearing about your planning! Mine is not what I thought I’d like at all. I ordered it in October and am going to try it on, on Saturday :-) super impressed at how quickly they are making yours! I hope you have a lovely day!

Reply

I bet your dress will be gorgeous – the lace is beautiful!

Reply

Janae!!! Are you going to post once a day going forward? your blog is always the best part of my morning/afternoon so just wondering!!! i know you are crazy busy with wedding stuff!!!!

Reply

HEY MALLORY!!! I am playing around with the idea and might be trying to do more quality posts than quantity. You are the sweetest!! I want to make my readers happy so share your thoughts! I need them! I think especially once I have both kiddos a few times a week during the summer it will be more of a one post a day thing and then once they are in school twice a day? I’ll keep you posted . Thanks again and I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

I love the lace! I can’t wait to see your dress. I have always wanted to go to strawberry days so I will totally have to take my kiddos to the rodeo next year :)

Reply

So I definitely just switched from the Brooks PureCadence to the launch. I have no idea why it did not dawn on me that I can’t wear flexible shoes for long runs. I have had a nagging foot pain hence the switch!

Reply

I was expecting bucking broncos in those rodeo pics :)

My oldest son would eat green olives with his yogurt. Strange, because he developed into an extreme non food mixer.

Our next son is the mixer. He likes Cheezits in his yogurt. He almost doesn’t not mix everything.

Growing up we had peanut butter and maple syrup sandwiches, or peanut butter and brown sugar (the best!)

Reply

Umm.. I had the exact same lace ;) Wonder if it’s the same dress?!?!?!!?

Reply

THAT WOULD MAKE ME SO HAPPY!!!!

Reply

Oh my goodness that picture of you and Brooke enjoying the rodeo is hilariously awesome. One of my favorite pictures ever of the two of you. You’re going to look absolutely wonderful in lace. You’re gorgeous in anything, but lace will blow you off the charts.

My dream wedding dress has full lace sleeves and is slim-fitting with perhaps an open back. :)

Reply

That little dress peak looks fantastic, I’m with you….lace is the way to go!

Reply

You look very happy & I’m happy that you are loving life so much right now!

Reply

GIRL…..my lace on my dress is that EXACT same lace. I love it!! How fun! My entire dress was made of that lace, and I absolutely loved it! I know you will be so gorgeous!!!

Reply

haha that oreo sandwich is pretty funny! I love my Nikes for strength training and Brookes or Saucony for running!
