Never gets easier and YOUR Running Accomplishments!!!

That was rough.  I could have stayed like this for the rest of the night after that 45 minute class.

I don’t think bootcamp ever gets easier for me so I just repeat this to myself the entire time:

NewImage

Megan makes sure we get in plenty of plyometrics (which are SO good for runners ((my favorites are here)) mixed in with each set.  Her sister has some serious hops… I barely make it 4 inches above the ground when we do the squat tuck jumps.

IMG 7498

Oh and another plyometric move to add (Meg had us do these at the end of class so they were extra killer)—> start back in a lunge and then bring the back leg up forward and jump reaching up high before returning that leg back again to a lunge—> repeat for 30-60 seconds before switching to the other leg.  My legs were on fire from these single leg lunge jumps!

IMG 7499

With running, I love running with people but I also love my solo runs too… BUT with strength training/weights I will ALWAYS choose to do it with people.  Especially with Megan because her workouts always fly by and are super effective.

IMG 7500

I made sure to wear my lucky donut socks to class.

IMG 7474

Food wise yesterday—>  Brooke and I attacked this watermelon.  Why cut it up when we can sit there with two spoons and eat large amounts in one sitting?!

IMG 7483

Chips and salsa.  One of those foods that is physically impossible to stop eating once you start eating it until they (and the refills that the waiter brings) are all gone.

IMG 7489

We also made sure to get in plenty of art outside yesterday too.

IMG 7471

And we are off to California today so cuddling and a movie were necessary last night.

As you know, these running accomplishments that you send in each week are my favorite. Keep sending them to [email protected] if you would like to be featured.  I love how supportive the running community is of each other!!!

———————————————————————

Allison!!!  I ran my first 50-miler ultra marathon on Saturday.  It was the most difficult yet rewarding experience to date.  The course was challenging and started at elevation too so I wasn’t too sure what to expect since I live at sea level (literally).  My goal was to finish in under 12 hours.  I crossed the finish in 11:23 as 1st female.  The greatest moment was getting to break the tape-that is a once in a life time experience and I will never forget it! I already can’t wait for the next.

Rosie!!!  “I ran my first half marathon, the inaugural Pony Express Half Marathon in Sacramento, CA since a stress fracture I suffered during marathon training last fall sidelined me from running for a few months.  It was a sub 2 effort (1:55) and because of the small field due to it being an inaugural race, I managed to place 5th in my 40-44 age group.  I am more than pleased with my results and more importantly, how my body felt afterwards.”

———————————————————————

Stephani!!!  “I ran my second half marathon (my first was 3 years ago) on May 1st at the Skyline Half in Dallas.  I was not as prepared as I wanted to be on my first and ran it in 2:48 with a lot of walking.  My goal this time was to break 2:30 with little to no walking.  I thought I could do it because the course reviews said it was flat and fast but they had to change the course due to flooding and the new course had several hills.  I was doubting myself going in but I ran the whole thing with only one short walk up the last part of a hill and came in at 2:21… a 27 minute PR! I am already signed up for my next half and am shooting for a 2:15!”

Trina!!! “This past weekend I ran the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon.  My 6th half since I stared running just two and a half years ago.  This one was all mental game from the start.  I injured my hip four weeks ago and have been battling to get back to where I was before that happened.  Thank goodness I have the most amazing physiotherapist.  She never gave up on me!!! It was touch and go and I was told to hold off on any running the week before (although we did a small test run the Sunday before and it seemed to be much better).  I didn’t know what would happen once we started but I got going and never stopped.  Lots more hills than I expected but despite the hip injury and terrain, I still managed to shave a few minutes off my time!!  Less than three weeks till the Fargo Half.  Go Trina go!!!

Liz!!!  “I ran the Big Sur Marathon on April 24th.  I’ve run a lot of marathons and this one was my personal slowest:)  And no, I’m not upset by that at all.  That’s probably the biggest accomplishment of all.  I’m proud of my mental toughness:

-I trained while working 50-60 hour weeks in an awful work environment that reduced me, who never cries, to tears nearly daily.  -I survived twice weekly dry needling sessions on my IT band and the bruises on bruises that would fad on my leg.  -I ran outdoors in crazy New England temps:  a 20 miler in 70 degrees where I PRed my 10 mile pace… twice! And then 6 days later I ran a half marathon in a whiteout blizzard with 40 mph headwind (yes, the porta potty spun 180 degrees while I was inside!) -I prioritized my family and friends and waking up super early so I could run and do strength training and stretching and yoga and spin (not all at once).  -And I knew that the 2500 ft gain and 30 mph headwinds, I would not PR but I began and finished with a smile, I made sure to notice all the stunning scenery and thank God for the opportunity and health that i often take for granted and cheer others on… And I only had to rely on promises of jelly beans and my boyfriend at the finish line about once every quarter mile from mile 20 on to convince me to finish!”

Christina!!! “This Mother’s Day I ran my first race post baby.  Granted my boys just turned one, I had a really tumultuous pregnancy and my deliviery didn’t exactly go as planned.  After a lot of scares, the good news is at the end of the day, the worst of it was that the boys broke my tailbone on the way out.  I was laid up for a while and walking, standing, sitting, all were very challenging.  Finding my legs again and finding time to run again with twins has been challenging.  I was pretty darn proud of myself for getting out there and doing something I love on Mother’s Day.  My first mile was 7:34 which is really fast for me!!! I finished in 25 minutes 59 seconds and placed 15th in my age group and 120 overall (out of 1200 some runners).  Felt really proud of myself and rocked out to plenty of your running playlist suggestions.  Hooray for motherhood!”

Run

———————————————————————

Sarah!!!  “Last Sunday I participated in the Wings for Life Word Run.  This race is a very special one:  In 34 countries worldwide at 11:30am UTC, thirty minutes after the start, a Catcher Car will set off in each location.  As long as you stay in front of the car, you stay in the race.  When the Catcher Car passes you, your race is over.  Thus there is a local race result as well as a global one.  I finished 4th as a female runner in Germany (Munich) and 64th woman worldwide, running 39.12 km (24.31 miles) in 2:58:31 until the Catcher Car passed me (driving 17 km/h at that time, 10.56 mph).  During the race I was struggling with heat, intense sunshine and a hilly course.  As I was injured most of the time this year and had only little opportunity to follow my training plan, I am so very proud of this achievement.  And even more important:  I had such a great time and more fun than in any other race before!”

Lisa!!!  “Two weekends ago my husband and I ran the River Rat Half Marathon in Yankton, SD together (but not together, I was about 15 minutes faster). This was his first half marathon and my second.  He was worried because it was his first, and he’s not your typical runner, and I am coming off an injury and fully expected to DNF and spend my time cheering him on, so we were both thrilled to complete it.  The REAL rockstars though were our BFFs who traveled with us and hauled 5 kids around the course to make it the best experience ever.”

What are you looking forward to this weekend?!

Mild, medium or HOT salsa?!  Are you a chips person?  Favorite kind?

When it comes to working out—>  do you prefer groups or solo?  Does it depend on the workout?

What foods do you think are physically impossible to stop eating until it is gone once you start?

Looking forward to sorting out all the paperwork and getting my car to the auto body shop. Last night I was rear ended while driving on the highway. I’m not hurt thank god by my poor car needs to have some big boo boos fixed. I hate dealing with insurance companies so I’ll be happy to get this process moving.

I’m all about the mild salsa for sure. I can’t do spicy. And I love chips, especially Cheetos and Harvest Cheddar Sunchips!

Once I start eating Wheat Thins, it’s definitely hard to stop. And animal crackers. I LOVE those. :)

Chips and salsa is my downfall at Mexican restaurants. I’m not even hungry by the time my food gets there because I’ve had so many! I usually do mild salsa because that’s what my husband likes, but I like all kinds! If I open a bag of kettle corn, it basically turns into one or two servings because before I know it, half the bag is gone.

It definitely depends on the workouts. Shorter runs, tempo runs, etc. I generally prefer to do on my own. Speed work and long runs are really nice to have company on! Weight training I will likely not even do unless there is someone else there to push me into it!

This weekend is lots of graduations here and I have a massage tonight! Have fun in CA!!

I love the pics from your class – it looks like you have so much fun! I don’t think I’ve ever been to a group class (except for gym class in school haha)!

Veggies and hummus are right up there with chips and salsa on my list of things it’s really hard to stop eating! MMmm!

These running accomplishment stories always make me cry! It never fails! Congrats to everyone on being amazing!

I always go medium with salsa and guac and can’t stop eating chips once I start. I generally like working out alone but once in a while like a good group class, it’s been forever though!

I like mild chips and salsa, although a spicer one is nice for slowing me down and keeping me from eating too many. I work out solo most of the time. I do run once and strength train once a week with my husband, and the company is nice!

I am always weak in the face of chips and salsa. I literally cannot stop eating them once they are placed in front of me and I have no shame about it. Good thing I’m hosting a taco bar party this weekend so I can eat all of the chips and salsa my heart desires haha.

I like running alone but working out in groups. It’s so much more motivating to get it done with others than by myself.

Wow, that sounds like a tough workout. Seeing that watermelon REALLY makes me crave one!
I am looking forward to some much needed rest! This past week has been crazy busy.
I love chips and salsa but I don’t really like anything too spicy. Group fitness classes are nice and I always feel like I push myself more. I also love the group atmosphere and camaraderie but sometimes I enjoy solo workouts sometimes.
Fresh baked cookies — I can literally eat like 20 in one sitting!

Congrats to all the runners and congrats on your half marathon last week! :)

Joe Vera’s chips and salsa are my favorite. Medium or mild salsa is what I usually go for. But I prefer restaurant style rather than chunky salsa. And now I want all that salsa and chips for breakfast.

Reply

HOT salsa and all of the chips! I’m loving the Utz Organic Blue Corn Tortilla chips lately but I don’t discriminate!

Have fun in CA! I’m sure the weather will be gorgeous. I’m thinking chips and salsa may be on the agenda this weekend.

Reply

I’m addicted to chips and salsa (love hot salsa or salsa with a smokey flavor). I’ve been loving blue corn chips lately! As far as working out, I work out in a group with bootcamp, but when it comes to running I enjoy it solo. Also… I can’t wait for my Sorry for what I said at mile 20 tank to come in :)

Have fun this weekend my friend. I agree that running never gets easier, but you do get stronger. I think people anticipate there to be a point where running is “easy” but we adapt to it.

Your readers accomplishments are always awesome.

Well I won’t be in Cali (have a great time!!) but I will be soaking up the sun, in my room, preparing for finals. All about perspective, right? :)
Medium salsa, the Goldilocks of all salsas!
I am not hard-core enough to be in the weight room right now but as soon as I muster some courage and bribe one of my friends to go with me, I will definitely need a group/partner every time in the iron arena.
Once I start eating pretzels or cereal, it is like I become possessed and before I know it POOF all gone!

Looking forward to: long-ish run tomorrow, NAMI walk with my company, seeing friends, and sleeping in on sunday! :)

MEDIUM for me. I have gotten wimpier as I’ve gotten older (weird)

SOLO for running but group for strength. which i need to do more of, stat.

Foods impossible to stop eating: grapes, m&ms, gummy bears

Oh my goodness, I have been so busy lately that this is my first trip back to HRG in a long time and I see that the layout has changed. It’s so beautiful! I love it and I love the running accomplishments! So fun and I love the running community for that very reason! Congrats on your 1:26!! You are incredible! <3

HOT salsa. HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT. Give me all the heat. It’s especially bad when I’m pregnant. I would drink tabasco if I could.
But anything sour? Like a sour patch kid? I can’t have it in my mouth for more than a second.
Love those running accomplishments!

Hot salsa all the way! I know the spice level is perfect if my eyes are watering and my nose is running :) I love tortilla chips at a restaurant that are still warm from being freshly made. I also like eating salsa with those triangle Triscuits–they’re thinner than normal Triscuits and a good way to get some whole grain in!

I can’t stop eating caramel corn. It’s dangerous stuff.

I mostly workout alone, but I love going to classes at the gym with friends or running with a friend when I get the chance.

Hooray!! So excited to have made it onto the running accomplishments!! I love reading them every week and it feels really cool to be a part of a community of runners and women that are so sweet :)
You rock Janae, love your blog and read it daily. Please know that you inspire so many women, including myself!!

CONGRATS AGAIN!! You are amazing!!! Thank you so much and I hope you have a fabulous weekend!!!

I am looking forward to a 10k with the hubs tomorrow, relaxing by the pool, and family dinner on Sunday!

I pretty much love all salsa. I recently found some baked tortilla chips at Trader Joe’s and I’m excited to try those out. I really like On the Border’s thin chips; they remind me of Chile’s chips :)

I would pretty much always choose working out with a group of peeps. It can be intimidating, but it makes it so much more fun and makes the time pass much more quickly!

There are so many foods that I could eat until they are gone: ice cream, frosting, cereal, dark chocolate…

Reply

Oh I am all about chips and salsa. Medium/hot salsa is my favorite. Mexican food always keeps me eating and eating.. it’s my favorite.

LOVE the running accomplishments! I was going to take today off but now I am inspired to go run.. :)

Reply

I so need to take one of Megan’s classes when I am back in Provo. They sound like they would kick my butt in the best way! And I agree that chips and salsa are basically impossible to stop eating once your start haha. They are just SO good. ;)

Reply

I am ALL about the hot salsa. And Chips and Salsa are my favorite “food” in the whole world. I can be out of milk/bread/the basics for days and not care, but the second we run out of chips or salsa, I make a run for the grocery store!

I prefer solo speed work runs, but it can be nice to do long runs with a friend, as long as we are evenly paced!

Reply

I love chips and salsa, and I like mild best, and if it has pineapple in it, then even better! I think jelly beans and chips/salsa are really hard to stop eating once you start! And I prefer running on my own rather than with others. Although I love it when my husband bikes with me while I run. I don’t really go to workout classes, but some of yours sound fun!

Reply

Ya’ll look SO hardcore in that bootcamp class! I love group fitness classes – so much fun and so motivating. But sometimes I’m in the mood to just run by myself or do a workout solo. It really depends on the day.
Foods that are impossible to stop eating until they’re gone: popcorn, chips and salsa/guacamole, french fries!

Spending days out on the sunny sidewalk with chalkboards was my summers growing up. I loved every minute of it, and it totally brought me back to that time seeing your photos!
Salsa? AS HOT AS IT GETS.

Reply

Hot, hot, hot salsa. I’ve had to cut back on chips, but love the Sweet Potato chips from Food Should Taste Good.

Pistachios are a favorite that is hard to stop eating.

Reply

If you don’t have one already, you need to get one of those cookie dough scoopers to scoop the watermelon out. It is life changing and I haven’t looked back on cutting a watermelon since!
