A big day in our household and WE ARE RUNNING A MARATHON!?!?!?

Brooke had quite the milestone—>  she had her pre-school graduation and my mom even brought her flowers for her special day.

She took the whole experience very seriously and sung her little heart out during the ceremony.

IMG 7110

Have I told you before (I probably have like 200 times) that I am never moving away from my mom again.  It is the absolute best to have her at every event and she is always excited to hang out with us.

IMG 7138

How in the world has she already finished her first year of pre-school?!? Time stop moving.

IMG 7122

My run on Wednesday = 8 treadmill miles @ 8:06 average pace.  I have no idea what Brooke was doing here but let’s just go with it.

IMG 8011

I got some talking in with Megan and Lindsey

IMG 7997

and like usual—>  I was in my Brooks, Meg was in her Nikes and Lindsey was in amazing heels.  Just the usual uniforms.

IMG 8001

We are back to warm and beautiful weather here in Utah again which we are pretty excited about.

IMG 7108

Last night we got in plenty of fetch with our favorite pup (she is too fast to catch a good picture).  I need to take her for a track workout and have her pull me for some 800s.  I could probably set some new personal track records this way.

IMG 8019

Brooke loves my boyfriend’s house a whole lot more than our house because of the above dog and a freezer stocked with otter pops.   What more could a 3 year old ask for?

IMG 8026

So this came yesterday to my inbox… looks like we’ve (he’s got in too) got a marathon to run!  I’m ready to make up for not making it to the starting line of this one last year!

Screen Shot 2016 05 18 at 2 12 41 PM

Oh and today’s run was at home (I’m getting used to how easy it is to just run at home because then I don’t have to arrange any babysitters etc to get my run on).

8 mile progression run—>  starting with an 8:10 mile and finishing with 6:53 mile.  7:25 average.

Congrats to Brooke! Such cute photos. I can’t wait to follow along with your training for the marathon! I’m spending my Thursday evening heading over to apply for my marriage license! Then probably a lot of relaxing after a busy week.

Reply

Thank you so much Lisa. AHHHHH HUGE HUGE CONGRATS on your upcoming marriage. I am so stoked for you! Enjoy the relaxing!

Reply

Oh my gosh I need to meet you at the marathon!! I swore Boston was my last marathon, until I signed up for the St. George lottery…and got in! I work nights, so that’s what I will be doing tonight :)

Reply

AHHHHH THIS MAKES ME SO SO HAPPY!! See you there (and HUGE congrats on Boston!!!)! I always swear the marathon off too haha. Hope work is great tonight!

Reply

Thanks!! This makes me so happy, too!!

Thursday evening will be a tempo run for me! I’ve got a 5 mile progression tempo to do.
I’m training for a fall 50K!
I wear heels only when absolutely necessary, which is thankfully not very often. Heels really aggravate this pesky plantar fasciitis that I’ve got going on.
My mom spends a lot of time in the town where I live, although she doesn’t live here full time. I love having her close by!

Reply

50k… you go Sam! Have an awesome 5 mile progression tempo tonight! You will rock it! SO glad your mom is close by!! Enjoy your night!

I LOVE heels. The problem is, I’m on the tall side (5’8), and my husband is on the short side (5’8), so unless I’m doing a girls night or a work event, it’s flats for me. Usually flip flops or vans.
Of course, it’s me that cares, not my husband. :)
I had my first run back since being out with a really bad cold the past few days. It felt equal parts amazing and miserable. I love running.

Reply

LOVE that first run back after taking some time off! So glad you are feeling better and you had an awesome run. Hey, I’m 5’8″ too and I live in vans hahah!

I wish I lived close to my mom! She’s about three hours away, which isn’t terribly far, but I wish she lived closer. She’s my running, hiking, and yoga partner and I hate that she has to drive so much when we want to do something. I know it’s going to be even harder when my husband and I have kids. Hopefully we’ll have convinced my dad to move to Colorado by then.
Only comfortable shoes for me please! I’m always in tennis shoes, Toms, or sandals. I’m not even sure if I own a pair of heels anymore.

Reply

My oldest has pre school graduation today too. I feel the same–time, slow down!

I live about 2 minutes from my mom and we love it too. I was lucky enough to grow up with both sets of grandparents with in a couple of houses, literally, from me. So I have always wanted my kids to grow up with the same kind of thing.

Reply

I’ve got so much to catch up on for work tonight. I stupidly let some stuff go by the wayside and now I’ve got to catch up this evening. Ha.

That’s exciting and congrats on getting accepted to the marathon Janae.

Also Brooke looks so cute from graduation.

Reply

Congrats to both you and your guy (on getting into the marathon) and to Brooke on her graduation!

We have tons of summer racing plans that are now locked in with race entries and hotel bookings but have not started on the fall yet (apart from one 50 miler and a marathon that we pace for each year).

Never, ever, ever wear heels. I am clumsy enough in running shoes that I just do not need to add that extra challenge!

Reply

I’m a day ahead so my Friday night will be chilling after work, getting ready for 26km tomorrow morning and doing some laundry! Love your treadmill set up at home that’s so convenient. I live close to my mum and love her to pieces – she is a beautiful person and everything she does for us always has that “special mum” touch. Ps just had the BEST overnight oats – they might be good for your tummy they felt gentle mashed with banana soaked in almond milk with some cinnamon and honey.

Reply

No marathon but I’m running the Savannah Rock & Roll half marathon in November. Last year was ridiculously hot & I’m hoping for cooler weather this year.

I’m spending the evening crafting with friends- making handmade cards.

Reply

I’m running Savannah RNR too! Looking forward to it!! I hope the weather is cool too.

Reply

I have always wanted to go to st George and always do that marathon. Hmmm…

Reply

YOU HAVE TO!!! It is my favorite!!!

Reply

Darling pictures of Brooke!!

I pretty much live in comfy shoes.. I think it helps me run. I wear heels.. rarely. And even then, I put arch support in them. That helps.

Reply

Am I missing on your page what your snap chat name is??? I love following your blog!

Reply

I actually don’t really ever use snapchat…. the one above is Lindsey’s. If I decide to do something more with it I will totally post about it! Thank you so much Jaclyn and I hope you are having a beautiful day!!!

Reply

Yay for Brooke’s graduation and for running the St. George marathon with your boyfriend! I love wearing heels, but only when I won’t be doing a lot of walking ha. I have two kids so tennis shoes, flats and sandals are usually a better/safer choice ha. Tonight will be spent hanging out with family. We are with my mom for the summer and I am soaking up every moment of it before we have to move away again. :(

Reply

Brooke’s graduation pictures are the cutest things ever! And that’s so exciting about your marathon! That must have been an awesome email to receive. Tonight I have an event for my alma mater and I’m weirdly way too excited for it haha.

Reply

I can’t wait to follow your training for the marathon! Tonight I will be doing a Pilates arm workout (it’ll be a crazy night over here). I don’t have a fall marathon but I do have a fall half marathon (my first one!). I never wear heels, I look way too stupid walking in them!

Reply

I got into the St. George Marathon too!! Yay! I’m running one this weekend and another one in 4 weeks. Crazy but fun! Looking forward to running St. George since I live in MN. Love following your blog and your workout suggestions

Reply

CONGRATS!!! Oh this makes me so happy! We will have to do a meet-up! AHHH good luck with your next two marathons:)

Reply

My mom and I are going out for dinner to a restaurant that has the BEST blueberry beer!

I am thinking of taking the plunge and signing up for my first marathon this fall. I trained for one last year and developed a bad tibial stress fracture and couldn’t run it.

I have never worn heels in my life and I honestly don’t plan on it, comfy shoes all the way!

I live with my mom, hahaha. I am only 21 though so I still have time before moving out!

Reply

I am spending my Thursday night hanging cabinets and staining baseboards. It is as exciting as it sounds! Actually I am excited, that means the house is getting close to moving in time!

I’m looking at a few different races for summer and fall. There are so many balls up in the air right now I don’t think it’s quite time to nail one down yet! Congrats on getting into St. George again! And you’ll have a training partner who is doing the race also! Fun!

I wear wedges at work sometimes, almost never heels. I prefer comfortable shoes all the time. Or no shoes, that’s good too. We currently live with my parents, so we literally could not be any closer! It will be weird when we move out! I have built in company right now!

Reply

Brooke looks precious in her cap and gown… what a special morning for you!

My Thursday night will include a quick run on the treadmill, laundry and packing for our trip to Colorado tomorrow!
I don’t wear heels too often anymore… my sweet husband is 6’3, so I totally should, but they just kill my feel. Comfort is key :)
My mom lives 6 hours away… it stinks. :(
I am SO excited to follow your marathon training!!! Yippee!

Reply

CONGRATULATIONS to Brooke!!! That is so exciting. I can’t believe how grown she looks in those pictures. Soooo precious :) and congrats on the marathon!!! That will be so exciting for you and your guy!! I live approximately 15.2 miles from my mom and I’m not moving any further than that. Me and my guy have our first marathon in December. I usually only wear heels if I’m dressing up for an event and they are never too high! Comfortable shoes for the win! So happy to see you are enjoying your treadmill :)

Reply

Congrats to both you and Brooke! That is so exciting about your marathon. I was supposed to run one this summer until a sprained foot put me out of severe weeks of training. A fall or early spring one may be in the cards then.
I haven’t worn high heels in probably a year, I’m all about comfy shoes!

Reply

Thursday= watching the college track meet and selling cookies for the Alzheimer’s foundation!
Never wear heels because a)uncoordinated b)my dad (former track athlete for U of I) would chastise me for the rest of my life…he takes foot health really seriously.
Good luck on your marathon!!! If I can get my body cooperating, I am running Chicago in the fall or a more local marathon in the spring! (body…do your JOB!!!)

Reply

Awww Brooke is the cutest!! I wish I lived close to my mom. My best friend is coming into town tonight to visit for the weekend! so excited!

Reply

Apparently fate has marathons in store with you! So much good news this week. Congrats! Tonight I’m coaching swim lessons.

Reply

Holy crap, no marathon for this girl. I’m still working on a 5K. Thursday night spend at my daughters Pee Wee baseball practice, love these nights. We live 30 minutes to my Mom and each time we talk about moving out of state, moving my daughter away from her very involved Grandma is our strongest reason not too. My go to shoes are comfort/tennis shoes and flip flops. Have a great Thursday everyone.

Reply

I got the email too and was so excited!! St. George will be my first marathon :) I’m travelling from northern Canada and am making a family trip out of it. Can’t wait to see Utah!!

Reply

AHHH this makes me so so happy! We will have to do a meet-up!!!

Reply

Yay! Congrats to Brooke!! Excited to follow along as you train for St. George! I will start training late next month for the Towpath Marathon in Cleveland this fall and I can’t wait to run in my hometown! And hopefully improve my marathon time :) Thursday night will start with physical therapy, a tempo run, lifting and then trying out HelloFresh!

Reply

Thursday night will be spent hanging with my cool kids. Tonight they are choosing to play golf in the backyard…hoping they don’t hit any Windows.

Fall marathon is Philadelphia marathon November 20th!! Lucky number 13!!

I love comfortable shoes but I want to wear heels more often.

I live 45 minutes away from my mom which isn’t too far. We see each other weekly. But we talk everyday!!!

Reply

We are spending our Thursday evening flying to Rome, Italy! 12 hours. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary. I booked this trip a year ago and now it’s here!!

I’m running the Honolulu marathon in December.

Reply

Oh dear. My mom is 2,671 miles away, but we try to stay close. Much too far for about 30 years. My mom has sacrificed much.

Reply

Such a pretty, growing up too fast, little lady you have on your hands! Congratulations to her on her big day!

Reply

1: I haven’t commented yet on this yet but you two are so cute! Congrats :) You look so happy! Feel free to send any spare SLC boys my way ;)

2: Tonight I will be having a conference call with my best friend to book our lodging for our trip to Dublin and London next month! ahh!!!

3: No marathons for me anymore. But I’m hoping to do a race in the fall. Any race – any distance!!! I haven’t raced since February 2014 and I miss it so much. Thanks for nothing, plantar fasciitis. But I definitely want to get back to halfs. They’re my favorite!!

Love you cute girl!!

Reply

I MISS YOU GIRL!!! Thank you so so much. You are beyond sweet and I will 100% be keeping my eyes open for ya! SO STOKED for your trip next month!

Reply

I love preschool graduations!! So cute! The hubs and I are running the st George marathon as well!! I’m so excited! We got in last year but I ended up having a surgery and couldn’t run. So pumped to get to do it this year! And it’s been 8 years and three kids since we’ve run a marathon together so I’m extra excited! We should do a post marathon yogurt celebration!

Reply

eeeep Brooke looks so adorable in her graduation gown! I’m a relatively new reader so I feel like I was just scrolling through posts of baby Brooke and now she’s outta preschool. Time flies.

Congrats on St. George!! I haven’t made it to a full marathon yet, but I have a fall 15k coming up. Can’t wait to follow your marathon training :)

Thursday night will be spent on the couch, with Netflix, and probably a trip to Yogurtland. First night all week I’ve been able to do nothing and I’m real excited about it.

So jealous you live so close to your mom, I would love to move back home. Especially when I have kids!

Reply

We are gathering supplies for our big yard sale fundraiser which is happening in the next couple of weeks!

I love my comfy shoes! My Sanuks are the best! I try and wear them in the winter because they are just the best!

Man they go all out for preschool graduations – especially with the cap and gown?! When I was in preschool we just got a certificate of completion.

Reply

I have a 15k in August and a half marathon in September…..my first! I’m super excited!
Where does the time go? My baby will be in preschool next year. They grow up too fast. Congratulations to Brooke! I’m sure she worked super hard for that diploma.
Tonight’s plans are packing for a weekend trip to see family. Can’t wait!

Reply

Brooke is a shining beauty! Congratulations to her on finishing a full year of school!

Thursday night: Netflix
I never wear heels. Seriously, I wore flip flops to prom both years. I didn’t make it a thing like people who wear converse to weddings do. It was all out of comfort and I enjoyed every moment of having comfortable and clean feet.
I don’t live too far from my mom now but the 2 hours seems like an eternity away!

Reply

Very cute. Just curious, with Brooke’s birthday in August, have you thought about when she will go to Kindergarten? I am a preschool special ed teacher and I just love when parents give their kids that extra gift of a year when their birthdays are so close to that September 1st cut off. My oldest has a Sept 5th birthday and she is often a leader. Academically she has always been way ahead and would be regardless of her birthday but really it is socials skills and attention to task that matter the most. I also worried about the middle school and high school years. But I also see some summer birthday kiddos, especially those 3rd or 4th born kiddos that are so ready to be done with preschool.

Reply

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!?!?!?!?!?!? I wonder about this all of the time. So are you saying it is good for them to be the oldest or youngest in their grade?

Reply

100% it is better to be the oldest in your grade. If you have any teacher friends ask them too. But also take a good look at Brooke next year. In my area, most August birthdays do not start on time. No one ever regrets giving them an extra year. But it honestly depends on the child.

Reply

My mom lives a 22 hour drive away or 8 hours of combined flying and driving time. Not good. But we will be moving to only a 4 hour drive away next month. Much better.
My fall marathon is on Labor Day in Colorado on a mostly flat, mix of dirt and asphalt, along a creek, trail. Sweet.
I wear heels 1-2 times a month, only to church. The rest of the time I am in running shoes or Chacos.
On the fun side, my 2 yr old was reading this post with me and went nuts hollering “Otta pops! Otta pops!”

Reply

OH I am so glad your mom will be closer soon!!! HAHAH I love what your little one said… kids love them!

Reply

Brooke looks so proud, congratulations to her!

I have a race Saturday so tonight was tv and stretching, I really needed it!

I wear heels when I need to but I always prefer cute comfortable shoes.

Reply

I will be spending tonight working and catching up on my favorite blogs :) How is Brooke already graduating from pre-school?! I swear you just had her yesterday! It is crazy how time flies. I have never ran a marathon but I know I will someday. I registered for one and began training last fall but then had to take a serious step back. I had no idea how hard it was to train with an infant so for now I am working my way to a faster half marathon. We live kind of near my mom, well right now we are living with her. My husband has one more semester of school so during the school year we live about 6 hours away which sucks. During the summer my husband does wildland firefighting and the company he works for is in the same town as both of our parents. It’s so wonderful being close to them even if it is only for a couple of months. I am so excited that you got in to the St George Marathon. I just love following along with your training!

Reply

Oh, Congratulations on getting into the marathon!

Reply

I totally love living near my mom too! We talk daily about 5 times too! Ha! Moms are the best!!

I hate heels, my feet just are NOT happy in them.

I am running my very first full this fall!!! Yay! I start training in just a few weeks! Super nervous but I’ve been wanting to do it for so long! I can’t wait!!

Reply

My Thursday night was spent with an intense/tough/crazy good sppedwork session followed by 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra.

My next big race that I’m training for is my first ever ULTRA! I’ve got a 50-miler slated for December!

Ever since I ‘really’ started running, my feet have gotten so cranky. They demand comfortable (read: expensive) shoes at all times. Right now I am living in (assorted running shoes, of course) Birkenstocks. Thankfully they have come out with some more dressier styles that I can wear to work.

And, I live about 15 minutes away from my parents. I go over to see them about once a week, but talk to mom on the phone almost everyday. I don’t know if I’d ever move further away from them; it would definitely be tough getting used to.

Reply

Yay!! Congrats on getting into
St. George! It’ll be fun to read up on your training. I got in too!! So excited about that!! Last year was my first time doing the St. George marathon and absolutely loved it…minus the last 4 forever long miles. Haha!! :) I PR’d and finally got that sub 4. It felt incredible!!
I love wearing heels! :)
And I’m about a 9 hour drive from my mom…so sad!

Reply

P.S. My son’s preschool graduation is next week! So bittersweet with him starting kindergarten. I’m going to miss my little guy at home. He’s my last child so I feel like I’ll be starting a new chapter. Kindof crazy!
Your little Brooke is such a cutie!

Reply

I flew into Utah for the first time in my life last weekend, and what a BREATHTAKING place you get to live and run in!
I know you will rock your fall race, like you always do.
Wishing you the best! XO

Reply

Hi,
Where did you get the rug in the living room? So cute!

Reply

My parents live 3 minutes from me. It’s awesome!

I don’t wear heals very often anymore. I used to wear them daily! But since I broke my ankle a few years ago, I can’t wear them without my ankle welling up and pain the day after. =(

Reply

You are absolutely so correct about living close to your mom! My mom lives 5 minutes away and I could not imagine having it any other way! Sometimes you just need sleepovers at your moms house to regroup and relax, you know? Oh and also sneaking into her kitchen pantry for food is also a great perk :)

Thursday night was spent sleeping! Since I had to get up at 5 for my 5:30am Orange Theory workout!
Random question, but today during class the instructor actually pointed out how close I run to the front of the treadmill. Do you know anyone who does this? Is there a right or wrong position on the treadmill to run (Front, Middle, Back)?!?! One of my Friday morning lessons of the day haha

Reply

I bought a condo a half a mile away from my mom’s and it’s the BEST. I literally see her everyday for afternoon coffee and snacks and we hang out all the time and I love it.

I love/hate heels. They always look so cute but I can really only stand wearing them for like 20 minutes before I want to change into flip flops. I’m jealous of the girls who can wear them so easily!

Reply

So exciting about the marathon! Congrats!! Also, how cool you both got in! Having an SO who shares your love and passion for running is the absolute best! I am just experiencing this for the first time and I didn’t know what I was missing. Good luck in your training!

Reply

Congrats on the Marathon acceptance! I have the Marine Corps Marathon in October and Philly in November on my fall list. I am not sure if I can do two marathons three weeks apart, but my plan is to race the first and enjoy the second. Have a great weekend!
