9 miles of jumping in puddles, post-run uniform and she knows us very well.

When we first left my parents’ house for our run Saturday morning it was lightly raining… but then right around the turnaround point it started coming down hard.  At points it was hard to open my eyes because it was raining so hard and that resulted in all sorts of Boston 2015 flashbacks;)

We did 9 miles @ a 7:52 average pace on the Murdock Trail (a 17 mile long trail!!!).  There were a few runners out but not nearly as many as usual (they were all on the treadmills and I would have been too if I didn’t have him ha:)

Our run was our date for the weekend—>  my kind of date.

Don’t worry, eventually I will convince him to see the light—>  aka switch over to Brooks running shoes.

IMG 8194

Lots and lots of water.

IMG 8196

Right when we got to my mom’s house she had towels and bags for our shoes ready for us.  She and Brooke both told us we were a little crazy for running in this weather.

IMG 8201

Post run uniform—>  sweatshirt, blanket, seat warmers and heater on FULL blast!

IMG 8205

He made our lunch:  lettuce, cucumbers, avocado, feta and rotisserie chicken.

IMG 8207

And I made our afternoon snack:

IMG 8215

Brooke got to spend a little bit of time with her grandma from California (she was in town and took Brooke on a date).

IMG 8222

When she got home we were extra lazy with our Saturday afternoon…

IMG 8216

And picked up Kneaders for dinner at home.  Bread that is this tall always wins in my book.

IMG 8221

Random question…. As you know, I love Kodiak Cake pancakes but I wanted to ask if anyone has tried their brownies before I buy some.  How are they??

IMG 8220

And the most exciting package came from MONICA—>  How perfect are these socks?  She knows the two of us quite well.

I won’t run in the lightening or hail or if it’s icy outside. I actually really like running in the rain. It makes me feel like a kid!

My best friend is in town for today so we are heading out on a run soon! The rest of the day will be working at our new house and hopefully putting in some new flooring! And since that will be exhausting, I hope the evening is very relaxing because I’ll need it!

Brownies are my favorite! I love the ones with the cookie dough on top. Cookies and brownies? Can’t go wrong!

Ghiradelli chocolate has a brownie recipe I have been making for 15+ years! 4 eggs and 2 sticks of butter. They are almost more like flourless cake brownies.

I’m still up in the Adirondacks today. Gonna run, go paddle boating on Lake George and eat lunch outdoors. Last bit of fun before we head home.

I’ve run in so many different temperatures and conditions, but I normally run on the treadmill when it’s icy outside or there is lightening. I also don’t care to run in temps over 80, usually the treadmill I have a date then too.
As for my favorite brownie recipe, I am in love with one that I found on Pinterest. It’s a healthier version, but they taste like a mixture between fudge and a fudge Popsicle. (You eat them cold.) So good.

I am Canadian so weather never stops me LOL But I do use the treadmill sometimes when I want to make sure that I do my intervals at the right pace. I love my garmin but with quick intervals I tend to go to fast and then pay for it so the treadmill comes handy ;-)Next Monday is a holiday in canada so we have a BBQ with friends and little guys really wants to see the Angry Birds movie so we’ll try to do that as well!

I’ve never had those brownies. In fact, I’ve never seen them. Lately I’ve been obsessed with this chickpea recipe. It tastes just like chocolate chip cookies.

Props to you guys for running in the rain! I recently attempted to run through a thunderstorm and it just didn’t work out.. I’ve never even tried Kodiak cake pancakes but those brownies look promising. I don’t have a limit with heat, but the cold and wind will send me to the treadmill in a second. Going to check out Petrified Forest National Park today!

I think I love that you found someone who not only runs but can run at your pace! That is not easy to find! I haven’t tried kodiak cakes brownies – I usually make mine from scratch but haven’t done so in a long time now

I don’t mind running in the rain but long runs are tough when you get soaked the whole time! And I feel like they are a recipe for disaster with blisters, chafing, etc. I won’t run in lightening or ice, otherwise I will run outside (I don’t have a treadmill or gym membership so its outdoors or no running!)

Reply

I love that you’re mom was all prepared for you guys coming back soaked.

I’ve never tried those brownies either, but I bet they are pretty good.

Reply

I don’t mind running in the rain but I draw the line at ice and lighting. I haven’t made brownies in a long time but I love making them from scratch and adding chocolate chips to the batter to an extra chocolately taste.

Reply

ghiradelli brownies forever and always. the boxed mix is better than anything from scratch i’ve ever made. every flavor is perfect.

three things going on today: cleaning, meal prepping, and list making. trying to make the most of this gloomy day by being productive haha. we’ll see if I can battle off Netflix for long enough to get stuff done.

I ran inside yesterday because of constant rain in the morning but I’m hoping to get out today even if it’s sprinkling a little. More endorphins from running outside!

I picture one of your first conversations going something like this:

Guy: You must love dogs….
You: Well, you must love blogs…..

deal!

We need the rain so so bad here in CA!
I need to try those as I love the Kodiak pancake mix!

Reply

I am staying home, if it’s windy or raining.
I am not scared of the heat.

Reply

WOW that’s a lot of rain! I really hate running in the rain so I am impressed that you stayed out there for nine miles! I think I would rather run in heat or cold than rain. I hate when water gets in my eyes, nothing annoys me more!

Yesterday was sunny and very hot here. The high was 90 degrees!

It takes a lot to get me in the treadmill. The treadmill and I are not friends. I live in Oregon, so we do a lot of running in the rain.
Today I am making cake for a wedding cake tasting this afternoon (6 different flavors) and then I have to work on tutus for my Girls on the Run team. Somewhere in there there is also a bunch of housework that needs to be done. Fun times! ;)

Reply

Today my boyfriend woke me up at 6am and asked me if I wanted to go running by the beach since we live in Florida. He doesn’t run but he bikes rides while I’m running. Not sure if many people would love to get woken up at 6am to excercise but I think I found a keeper ;)

Reply

I love me some Kodiak Cakes but the brownies are a no go! Ghiradelli Double Chocolate brownie mix for the win every time!!

Reply

Rain is ok, but lightening or strong winds=no way. And if it is snowing or icy (a rare thing in TN) I usually stay indoors.

3 things: relaxing after a busy wedding for my sister yesterday, grocery shopping, and cheering on some 1/2 iron man competitors in town today………….it goes right by where I work! I think it is the bike handoff and the finish line too, which is cool!

I have not tried those brownies………..I really like Ghiradelli (spelling?) brownie mix and there is a kind called No Pudge which is fat free, you make it with yogurt, and it really does taste good!

Reply

I run on the mill only for time issues and only for short runs. I hate it. I will run in sub zero temps first. And I have.

My dh is training for his first half so we are going for his long run today (10). Mine was yesterday (18). I’m working on 50k training so the back to back is good.

On weekends like this I want to eat everything.

Reply

I’ll run in light rain but you’ll never catch me running in a down pour! lol. We’re known for rain in Seattle but luckily we don’t get heavy downpours too often. I also prefer to run in the cold since my body can’t handle heat too much.

Reply

Those brownies look yummy!!

Reply

Your run sounds similar to one I had recently as well. It was beautiful weather until the halfway until it downpoured. I ended up being late to work trying to comb out a huge knot LOL. I’m glad you had a great run though Janae!

Reply

The Ghiradelli brownie mix is the BEST!! And, you can get a big box at Costco ;)
I love running in the rain!! But, when it’s raining so hard you can’t see, that’s my limit. It’s great seeing you happy and running with your guy! You deserve to be this happy :)
Happy Sunday!!

I think you should test out those brownies for us and report back. I appreciate the seriousness with which you treat your desserts and trust your opinion 100%.

Reply

I think you are so right… I’m going to have to do that and thank you for trusting my opinion… turns out I love sugar.

Today was the perfect weather for a run!! 55 and sunny, my fav! Pouring rain or 100+ degrees = treadmill running. Although some of the most fun runs have been done in the rain!
Today is a pool, baccalaureate speaking, graduation party kind of day.
I really like fudgy brownies and Monica @runeatrepeat posted a recipe with a fudge brownie mix mixed with a can of pumpkin and it’s delicious!!

Reply

I tell you, I LOVE RUNNING IN THE RAIN!!! It just seems calming to me for some reason, and in another way, makes me feel like a BEAST!!!! But, not running if it is lightening!

Right now it is so HOT and HUMID in South Georgia!!!! Annnnddddd, it is just the beginning of summer! Had 9 miles today and had to slow it down! Thinking that I may need to go even slower if it gets much hotter! UGH! Or, there is always the treadmill! Oh, the love/hate relationship with the treadmill! :D

Run dates are always so much fun!

Three things I got going on today:
-Just finished pacing the Chicago Spring Half Marathon!
-Returning sandals and then hunting for new ones that fit better
-Dinner party!

And most importantly … Favorite brownies always come from a box. Love the Duncan Heines chewy fudge brownies!

Reply

I haven’t seen that brownie mix but please make them ASAP and report back. I get my kodiak mix at target and will be headed there this weekend. I will be looking for the brownie mix. I made plain fudge brownie mix this week and mixed in milk chocolate and peanut butter chips. They were a big hit.
I try to avoid running in the rain but have gotten caught in it occasionally. It’s been raining nonstop in MD since forever. There was a break at about 6 am this morning. I took advantage of it but did get caught in a mist for about 1.5 miles.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Reply

Hahahaha your run looks like my every day runs…. well this is the norm around here you know it being London and all!! LOL!! Also i think your guy is a keeper! THIS is THE PERFECT date!

Reply

Aww those socks are amazing!!! Love them.

What a fun run date!

I really like boxed brownie mix.. the ghiradelli dark chocolate is the best.

Today I ran 5 miles on the trail and I’m now I’m packing for my trip to Boston tomorrow.

Your mom is the absolute best, but I am sure you already know that. This is the kid of mom I aspire to be. The one always around when you want to hang, have a salad or sandwich, to watch the grandkids for running dates, etc! Perfect. Ps. My husband and I have date night at the gym….with little ones, its hard to get a work out in together!

Last weekend’s Pocono mountain marathon featured a hail storm, that’s a first for me. PR through it all!

Reply

Oh thanks Julie!! Good call on looking up the reviews! Hope you have a fabulous week!

Reply

Rain will definitely put me on a treadmill. I don’t have snow here in San Diego, so I’m a bit of a wimp. ;)
Three things: reading, writing, and sandwiches!
Favorite boxed brownie mix is Ghirardelli! Way too rich for your own good, but ohhhh my.

Reply

I’ve only ever had boxed brownies, but with a little bit of ice cream, they totally hit the spot. :) Way to go for running in the rain! You guys are so hardcore. I am such a wimp and would totally have just hit up the treadmill ha.

Reply

I love all brownies – boxed or from scratch, but my all-time favorite are these right here —-> http://onesweetappetite.com/2013/04/brownies/ They are the first to go at parties & last only a day or 2 in my house haha!

Reply

Bless your heart Elizabeth… I cannot wait to try these! YUM!!! Hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Reply

Stir in Andes mint chips into the batter. Then add a few sprinkled on top when they first come out of the oven. Heavenly!!

Reply

YOU ARE BRILLIANT!! Such a good idea! THANKS Tara!

Reply

Ugh! You guys are braver than I am! I wouldn’t have left the house even if it was just sprinkling. ;)

I really really don’t care for treadmill running, and will try to shift my schedule around if it is raining or too hot.

Reply

I rely on the treadmill a lot because I run super early and have had some freaky moments in the dark. I love being dry inside on a dark rainy morning – on weekends I always get outside and make the most of it. 3 things today, just finished work (yay!), going to make a super easy dinner with some fab leftover basil pesto that makes everything taste delicious, then an early night. Boring yes, but absolutely much needed and looking forward to it!

Reply

I am so picky about running weather… cold, rain, or really hot temps get me on my treadmill.

Reply

rain always puts me on the treadmill i hate getting soggy shoes. seat warmers are the best though i love getting rental cars that have them they make me feel so fancy

I LOVE Kodiak Cakes brownies. I live in NW MO and we have a very limited selection of Kodiak Cakes. I heard good things about the brand and asked my sister who lives in Utah to send me some boxes especially the brownies. I made them and as far as a healthier version of a brownie goes they are wonderful. Right at this moment I have some Kodiak Cakes brownies in the freezer when I crave something sweet. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
