Favorite spring finds, all of the plaid while running and proof that I’ve been a running klutz since the beginning!

Spring is here and I get questions on some of the things that I wear so I thought I would share my favorite Spring finds.  I keep things simple (I’m sure you are more than aware of this fact).  I am a jeans/motto pants girl, loose tops, sometimes dresses and beyond comfortable shoes kind of person

IMG 3826

Don’t mind my tanning lotion toe but here are my FAVORITE shoes right now for spring:

These sandals (I splurged but they are so comfortable and match with everything so I call them an investment;).

These adorable lace up flats.

J Crew Factory Sandals

-Of course my trusty vans (I wear these chambray ones the most and my white ones come in handy for spring).

IMG 3953

As far as pants go I live in the moto leggings (the white, light pink and light blue ones are perfect for spring).   Also, a huge fan of Joe’s Jeans (my favorites)

My favorite spring loose tops —>  this, this,  filly tee and this.  Favorite button up.  Oh and these draped oxford cap-sleeve tops (I wore the red one a bunch last spring so I’m sure you remember it).

Dresses for everyday wearing—>  this, this, and still love the baseball t-dresses!  Also, the J. Crew Factory pencil skirts are a must (I have two) and they have fun spring colors right now.

And Brooke is sporting her jelly sandals this spring.  PLEASE tell me these take you straight back to the good ol’ days of being a kid.

IMG 4058

She is also bringing out the light pink lip (skin?) gloss this spring:)

IMG 4085

Yesterday’s run was a plaid on plaid run.  My shoes just inspired the shorts and it is ridiculous things like this that make me happy.  I got yesterday’s run in closer to noon because that way I could get in a run outside (and Brooke could be with her cousins)!  CAN I JUST TELL YOU IN CAPS HOW AMAZING IT FELT TO BE RUNNING WITH THE SUN BEATING DOWN ON ME!!!  It felt so good to be hot.  Not cold.  Not medium.  Hot.  (And in a few weeks I’m sure I’ll be complaining about hot runs;)

7 miles @ 8:17 average pace around town and I only had to stop at one stoplight… I love it when the stoplights sense me coming and help me out;)

IMG 4071

Over the course of this blog I have told you about many times where I have fallen while running.  BUT i have forgotten to tell you about my very first running fall/injury.  I was just a little thing running along when I tripped and hit my face on a medal chair that was outside.  I hit it so hard that it cracked my front teeth in half and the dentist had to pull out the rest of what was left.  I didn’t have front teeth for many many years.

IMG 4093

I was born to be a running klutz but that doesn’t stop me (I just watch out for those uneven sidewalk cracks a little bit more than I used to:)

IMG 4094

And a few things from yesterday:

*Still coloring and still finishing Easter candy.

IMG 3990

*Brooke just thinks Superman is the coolest move around.

IMG 4066 1

*My niece is now to the age that when I take them all to the park she just wants to hang out with me and talk while we watch the girls play.  I’m okay with this.

IMG 4106

*I don’t even remember Brooke putting these stickers on me but didn’t realize they were there until I was putting my hair into a ponytail.

IMG 4050

*Dinner/dessert were TACOS and

IMG 4122

my sister’s amazing homemade oreos.

IMG 4129

*You can read all about my deep love for running with people HERE if you haven’t had enough of me already today!

What was your dinner last night?

How often do you fall while running?

-Put me on a trail and it is a definite and on the roads probably once every four months.  I have never fallen on the treadmill though.

Who else has gotten into the adult coloring books craze?

What do you love most about having a running partner?

WOW I don’t know if I want those sandals or your sisters homemade oreos more, but I’ll definitely take both! I baked some chicken breast and steamed some peas for dinner last night and has a pair with cashew butter for dessert. Haha I just realized how lame that sounds, but I liked it!

I go through phases where I fall while running, but luckily right now I’m not in that phase! I feel like I get so close to my running partners so fast because you just have so much time to talk and it gets real deep real fast.

I don’t fall too much while running, but I tend to fall A LOT in my normal day-to-day life. I’ve learned to accept my klutziness.

I haven’t tried any of the adult coloring books, but I still use the kid ones all the time. Coloring is definitely a great way to relieve stress!

I haven’t fallen during a run in awhile, so I’m probably due. I think the last time I fell I was in high school (um, like 12 years ago?!)

I love adult coloring books! They are so relaxing! We gave one to the volunteer in our office for Christmas and she was so excited for it. It was great!

I’m enjoying being warm on runs again. I still don’t want to be hot, but warm has been nice. And not having to wear a million layers!

I’m so wanting to go shopping for spring and summer and this didn’t help!

Jelly sandals remind me of blisters! I hope they have gotten more comfortable through the years! haha

I had brinner last night! Nothing like eggs and toast after a long day!

I don’t run with other people, so I suppose I like spending time with myself, haha. I like using running (easy days at least) as a way to zone out and transition from my work brain to my home brain!

Reply

Those homemade oreos look amazing! It’s literally 20 degrees here right now so I’m envious of those sandals. I actually don’t fall much when running but then again mostly run on the road, if I ever fall it’s because of uneven sidewalk!

Reply

Love your style! Simple and very elegant :) .

Oh, and love the plaid running outfit too – so cute!

Reply

I had some lentil soup and popcorn for dinner.
I am a graphic designer so I get my art fix for work but I do love a good coloring book when I am hanging out with my boyfriends daughters.
I haven’t fallen running but I fell once walking when I tripped on a loop of plastic that ties newspaper stacks together. It was like a cartoon. My feet got caught and I went down. My hands were all scraped up with pebbled in the open scrapes. I had a hard time shampooing my hair for a few days.

Reply

I’ve fallen twice while running and both times I scrapped my right knee up badly. Last night for dinner I had a buddha bowl with red lentils, brown rice, sweet potatoes, beets, and tahini. So good!

Reply

i’ve fallen 2x in my whole running life–but i trip all the time. lol

Reply

Dinner last night was omelet with mediterranean veggies and baked sweet potato slices. I did fall a few times while running on ice but I do fall from my road bike every year (The joy of clip-on pedals!). Running partners are luxury to me! Last year we got a baby-sitter so my husband could run the half-marathon with me and it was so much fun!

Reply

Matt made the most amazing black bean soup for dinner last night. I wasn’t too enthusiastic about the idea of black bean soup but it was delicious!

I’ve only ever fallen over once while running and that was a few weeks ago. I tripped over a root on a trail and still have a big bruise on my hip! Sticking to the roads from now on!

Reply

The only time I’ve ever fallen while running is during a trail race. It was one of those single lane races where it’s hard to pass people, so I was so embarrassed when I tripped and fell! Usually i’m pretty good but that day was something else.

Reply

I’ve only fallen once while running and it was when I slipped on ice and a huge wind burst took me down. Ever since I have been super careful running in the snow and ice since I know it is so easy to slip and fall.
Dinner last night was some lentil soup and it was delicious! And a black bean peanut butter brownie for dessert ;)

Reply

Dinner last night was the most delicious quinoa pasta with TJ’s three cheese sauce (OH…MY…GOOSES…!).

I fall twice a year (on average) while running.
…and now that I think about it, I haven’t fallen this year…yet…it’s coming…soon…

I DO color in my coloring book!

I have my Solemate Steph to keep me company during the toughest workouts (Wednesday evening track workouts); otherwise, I’m a solo runner.

Reply

Knock on wood. I’ve never fallen during a run, at least as an adult. I totally ate it on the track in middle school PE. One of the most embarrassing moments of my life!
Dinner last night was jalapeño burgers, sweet potato fries, and salad. Perfect for a night I didn’t really feel like cooking.

Reply

Jelly shoes! I loved mine when I was a kid and I’m pretty sure I wore them everywhere even though they gave me blisters.

Reply

Luckily I don’t think I fell this entire winter! I love having a running partner because it forces me to finish the runs I need to do and makes the time fly by!

Reply

Omg I love those Bed Stu Soto Sandals! They are so cute.

Reply

Motherhood joys. I frequently find stickers and other things in odd places and I normally don’t notice until I’ve been in several public places.

The weather has been amazing! I’m super jealous of all the runners, my body is hating running on pregnancy, but we’re almost done and the running more will happen.

Reply

Those homemade Oreos sound deliscious. They look good too.

Ah, I can’t remember all of your clothing. I do like the flats though. Those are so cute!

I remember as a kid putting stickers everywhere. I seriously don’t know how my mom dealt with it LOL.

Reply

I haven’t fallen while running in awhile! I’ve tripped countless times and always get some sympathy looks from people across the street who saw me hahah. Last night for dinner I had a kale and sweet potato hash with 2 eggs! Those homemade Oreos look so good :)

Reply

I made Chicken Tikka last night with peas and cauliflower. It is one of my favorite foods.

I have only fallen once. I have tripped a few times, but usually catch myself before I actually hit the ground. Last year however, I was running around the block, 30 seconds in and tripped on flat ground. I landed on my knees and then rolled into the grass. First time I have ever skinned my knee. I now have a permanent scar. I did finish the 3 miles after that though.

I have 2 adult coloring books. Harry Potter and Doctor Who! =)

Reply

Chicken Tikka is amazing! I eat the chicken on sweet potatoes for a change sometimes….do you use a recipe? Right now, I’m using Old El Paso :) but if you have a recipe to share, I’d love to connect!

Reply

The recipe was sort of winged… I had Masala Simmer Sauce from trader joes and marinated the chicken & cauliflower in 2 tsp garam masala, splash of lemon juice & 3 tbs Greek yogurt. After everything cooked (cooked the chicken first) I added the simmer sauce and let that reduce a little before adding peas and about 1/3 cup yogurt. (the yogurt curdled a little since it was so hot but I cooled it further and added a little more) It was really NOT “real” Chicken Tikka but very close at least for me. Sorry it isn’t a good or real recipe. When my husband gets ideas we just roll with it lol.

Reply

Thanks for sharing! We don’t have Trader Joe’s in Canada – I feel like I’m really missing out!!

Reply

That sounds delicious!!! I need to come over for dinner Kelly:)

Reply

HAHA If you are ever in Ohio I would totally be game for that! I also have an ice cream maker/frozen yogurt maker so we can make some dessert too. =)

Reply

Adult coloring books. Chris, yes. Me, I try, but its the whole sit still thing.

Reply

Okay…1st those sandals…..LOVE…just don’t know if I can justify the cost. 2nd…LOVE those new brooks!!! Awesome. I can’t wait until the sun is beating down on me while running! Right now we are still getting a bit of snow…so it’s gross!!!

Reply

OMG jellies. I remember my feet being SO DIRTY after playing all day in jellies – with clean lines where the plastic was, and dirty kid feet everywhere else. Always in dresses and jellies, always filthy too. LOL

Reply

I love running with my crew! They listen to all my crazy stories!

Reply

Dinner was blackened tilapia, peas, and a huge romaine salad (yummy!!) I fall too often while running. As a matter of fact, I broke my hand in 5-6 places and had to have surgery because I tripped on a train track and landed on my hand while running… Oy. I think an adult coloring book night would be a fun date!! My running partner moved away last summer and I am still a little devastated by it :( Now I’m running with the hubs most days which is weird, fun, annoying, and awesome all at the same time.

Reply

I don’t fall much when running, but I am definitely a klutz… I trip all the time. Love adult coloring books. Jelly sandals take me right back to my childhood… I had the ones that light up and loved them!!

Reply

I seriously LOL’d at the picture of Brooke with lip gloss on!! That is so me with lip balm! Those homemade oreos look delicious.
Chick fil a salad for dinner last night! They are so good when I’m short on time.
I enjoy the adult coloring books but I can only do it with friends or for a little bit.
Having a running partner is nice because it’s not so boring when I’m running by myself.

Reply

I have always loved to color but I still like the kid coloring books! Adult patterns don’t interest me. I get the Lisa frank or hello kitty coloring books for myself lol

Reply

I’ve only fallen once while running – but I trip and run into things all the time at home. I even fall going up the stairs….

Reply

I would love to HAVE a running partner! Maybe I need to branch out and be a bit more bold about finding other people with my passions…

I run so much better (and faster!) with someone else! I’m sure there’s a resource somewhere that I can hunt someone down to run slowly with me :P

Reply

those homemade oreos look spectacular

Reply

I’ve been on the coloring book kick for a while now. I have many of them but recently I got my favorite thus far. It’s a swear word coloring book. I know, I know, it’s definitely not something to leave lying around for kids but when I’ve hard a particularly hard day or someone has really gotten under my skin, I pick out the best word for the situation and color my anger away. Totally works too! :)

Reply

My trail race on Saturday was the first trail race that I didn’t fall in. Like a miracle that I didn’t.

Reply

I had ramen last night.

One time I thought I had paused the treadmill, hopped off for water, and got back on and splat!!!! This fall was memorable enough to avoid falling again.

Reply

I am a big fan of the adult coloring books! Brooke is very lucky to have a mom who is so balanced with food and body image. I don’t know if it is something that you have ever struggled with, but you seem to do it very well! You are gorgeous, work hard, and enjoy! Brooke will be such a happier teenager with an example like you.

Reply

I’m 26 years old and wearing jellies RIGHT NOW :) They’re probably my most favorite purchase ever, haha.

Reply

This makes me so happy. We are never too old for the jellies.

Goodness I love my running buddy! We have run together on and off for the past 13 years. We started with our babies in strollers and soon they will be off to high school. We do not get to run together everyday but every time we do, I am thankful! Yay, for running buddies!!!!!!!!

Reply

The close up photo of you as a kid — you look just like you mom!!! ❤️

That dinner and desert look amazing! We just moved this week so dinner was a bunch of randomness.

I don’t think I’ve ever fallen but I’m always tripping while running the trails. I love the trails but I know it’s only a matter of time before I fall and twist something.

I have always loved to color and I am loving all the new adult coloring books. I have 3 and I hide them so my little one can’t color in them. I do share my colored pencils tho. ;)

I usually run alone. I like to zone out to my music.

Reply

OMG! I feel so old seeing jelly shoes coming back in style. I remember they would always give me horrible blisters. Hopefully, the construction has improved since then.

Reply

It is timely that you ask that question now. Last Sunday I fell while running on the treadmill and now have two huge holes in my leg…one in my knee and one on the top of my foot. Not to mention treadmill belt burn down the length of my shin.

I had homemade potato soup last night!

Have a great day!

Reply

NOOOOO Oh Laura, I am truly truly so so sorry about your fall on the treadmill. I hope that you recover quickly and that the pain goes away soon!

Reply

LOVED jelly shoes as a kid!! Brooke looks so cute in them :)
Last night I tried a new recipe: One pot Paleo chicken stir fry. Seriously good and easy! I made rice for the kiddos, but my hubby and I loved it the paleo way!
I typically don’t run with a group or a running partner… but I do run my longer runs with my husband, and I love that!! When we’re training for a marathon or even a half, we do run more together. I love that time with him! And, just this past Saturday, I did a 5 miler with my sis-in-law… that was really fun! I wished we lived closer to run together more often!

Reply

I also had my front tooth knocked out when I was a kid.

The first time I fell running was during Nike Women San Francisco. The woman in front of me dead stopped and I caught a reflector in the street as I dodged her. The second time I had a hip injury and also caught something in the sidewalk. Ouch. (I fall more when I’m not running).

My running partners help me think things through, not just running but life in general. They really have become some of my closest friends.

Reply

Dinner last night was coconut chicken and broccoli curry over quinoa and I need to get on one of those colouring books!! It looks so fun!

Reply

Dinner last night was a mixed greens salad with roasted beets, avocado and sliced grilled chicken with poppy seed dressing and feta…..yum! I took a picture of it and instagrammed it, it was so pretty :)

I have yet to fall while running but do have a running partner who trips over air and dandelions….thankfully she has never been seriously hurt, so we can laugh about it.

I think the adult colouring is so cool but I crochet to pass the time while I’m engulfed in Netflix…..working on a mermaid afghan for a friend’s daughter right now!

My 8 running partners are my best friends…..not only do they motivate me to be a better runner….but they are the most supportive women I have ever met! I love them to pieces!

Reply

I’d say I fall pretty regularly. I’m really accident prone so I fall even if I’m not running.

We had leftover spaghetti last night! It was just as good the second time :)

Reply

In honour of you, I have ran 62 minutes outside bright and early today. :) Thanks for inspiring me!

Reply

Dinner last night was chicken breast and roasted broccoli :)

In 3-years, I’ve skid my knee out twice (both times in gravel as I tried to make a fast sharp turn) + twice I fell off the treadmill … The worst

I actually love adult colouring books! I got two for Christmas and I find them very calming..

I usually run alone but I’d like to join a running group as I recently moved to a new province where I don’t know many people.

Reply

I bought Rylee some jelly shoes so.so.cute. I had tacos last night too! My mom makes her own taco seasoning , it’s addicting. Tacos are apart of the weekly menu. Speaking of falling and the treadmill, have you seen that Apple commercial with Taylor Swift?! I laugh every time. I need to get a running partner. I feel the same way about the intimidation. I’m really slow so I am scared that I wouldn’t be able to keep up.

Reply

OMG my dinner was on point last night. I had sauteed zucchini & a homemade pizza with jalapenos, pineapple, chicken, feta & bell pepper. I used naan as the crust since I didn’t have any real crust. And it was such a good decision. I actually plan to have the exact same thing for dinner tonight.

I love the adult coloring books. I got a few for Christmas & have been enjoying them. I have the feeling I’ll get a lot more use out of them once it’s warm enough to sit outside & soak in the sunshine. Coloring on patio? Yes please.

Reply

I love love love adult coloring books! They are so relaxing. My roommates and I always steal each others (: I’m hoping to write a post on these wonderful things!

And I fall way too often on trail runs. I just am so bad about watching where I am going!

Reply

Dinner was the new salad that I’m obsessed with (greens, sriracha chicken, roasted veggies, grapes, feta, black barley, and honey mustard vinaigrette. I could eat this for days and days! I have never completely fallen while running, just major stumbles.
I don’t have a running partner. I’ve only run with someone once and I was so nervous! Was I supposed to talk? Was I supposed to be silent? If we’re silent, can I listen to music? I’m pretty sure I failed that first partner run because I talked the entire time which meant we ran much slower than normal :-).

Reply

I seem to have one good fall once every couple years. I always skin the ball of my hand where I reflexively put my hands out to catch myself.

My son had his two front teeth knocked out at age three (he ran into another child on the playground) and they have only just now at age 8 grown back! It’s so strange to see him with front teeth after five years of having a big gap there : )

Reply

I had a REALLY bad fall during my last race (pictures of my eye on my blog if you don’t believe me). What was scary was that I fell on my face on a dirt trail and my hand returned blood when I touched my face, but I had no idea how bad it was. Besides that, my knees were bleeding and in a ton of pain, I was sure my wrist was broken (just bruised! phew!), and my elbow was all scraped up. I was thinking, man, what craziness that I fell…then I remembered how often I always fall. I even fell rock climbing once and broke my ankle. SMH. I need those oreos.

Reply

Where are your floral shorts from in the article? :)

Reply

Hey Gloria! Those are from Lululemon about 2 years ago! I wish they still had them!

Reply

You are plaid-mazing! I love those shorts and those shoes!

I usually have a road crash at least once a year, but this year I had a terrible treadmill crash. Note to self: Do not get on a moving treadmill.

I have never been more thankful for my training partner. I could not have gotten through my Boston training without her.

Sidenote: I just started reading “The Growth Mindset” and it’s amazing! I’m so glad you recommended it. Happy running!

Reply

I have an adult coloring book, but completely forgot about it until right now (I got it for christmas haha). Definitely going to pull it out today.

Dinner was an egg scramble with broccoli, mushrooms, onions, and salsa with some greek yogurt goodness for dessert. delicious. probably going to have it again tonight #noshame.

Reply

Dinner last night was a giant chicken salad and a banana… followed by a few too many Lemon Snaps from Trader Joe’s (I’m not a big TJ’s fan, but these things are bomb) and jelly beans. Well, it certainly fueled my 14-mile run this morning, because I felt great! And the weather is PERFECT for running here, too!

I actually almost never trip while running. However, I trip at least once a day just walking around my university campus.

Also, can I just say that Taylor Swift video from yesterday is the best video I’ve seen in a long time.

Reply

I miss jelly sandals!

Reply

Dinner last night = spaghetti! You may have inspired me.

I’ve fallen more in the past few years (hello age 50!) but I’m happy to report that all my years of running have given me strong and healthy bones so it’s more embarrassing than anything.

Reply

How do the Moto leggings fit!? True to size?

Reply

Hey Katie!! I wear a medium and that fits pretty perfect for me (I’m usually a small or medium) SO I think they do run a little bit small but I also don’t love things to feel skin tight so I go for the medium. Did that answer your question? Let me know!

Reply

Yes ordering soon!!! I want the entire website… hehehe! I also love these fashion posts!

I love your and Brooke’s style :) You both are so cute!

Dinner last night: Scrambled Egg and Sausage Gravy with Biscuits. Breakfast ALL DAY LONG.

Where is your Lavendar top from? I love it!!!

Reply

Hey!! Okay, are you talking about the one in the very top? I searched for it for awhile yesterday (I bought it last year so I wasn’t finding it) but searched again today and here it is:

The one I am wearing in that above pic is the dusty pink!

Reply

Those Bed Stu sandals are too cute! I like your simple style. Now that I am a mom, I am finding that casual and comfortable comes first.

For the most part, I run by myself. Typically this is due to schedules and timing. Plus, when I have very specific workouts/paces on my schedule, it’s hard to find someone who can (or wants to) run with me. I guess that’s one of the reasons I enjoy racing so much – it allows me to be around lots of people! :)

Reply

Please tell me you did a little knock on wood when you made the comment that you’ve never fallen on a treadmill……
I fall quite a bit-same as your percentage. One summer when I was visiting home my toe caught on a crack in the asphalt-since I didn’t even expect it I landed on my mouth/cheek/jaw, shoulder, and punctured my knee (I could see way too deep in that little hole). I still have a scar *on my lip* from it.

The joy of a running partner is sharing the ups and downs of life-family, jobs, recipes, etc. It is so on beyond fun to laugh hysterically while running and try to not pee your pants because everything is funnier when running. It’s lovely and I miss my faithful running partner!!!! Plus it’s fun to be lost on a route with someone else.

Reply

I was running away on a treadmill a couple years ago, and the belt split down the middle. Suddenly my feet were moving at slightly different speeds and I couldn’t do it – I went flying off and had road rash on my arm for a couple weeks. Ow!

Reply

Dinner was kodiak pancakes. Yum!

Reply

I made butter chicken for dinner. I’d been craving it, so I picked up the ingredients while I was at the grocery store.

I need those sandals in my life. And that homemade oreo looks divine!!!!

OMG I want those Bed Stu Soto sandals soooooo much!!!!! Love!

I love those moto pants, but on a scale of 0-cellophane how see through are they?

Reply

You always dress so cute! I love moto jeans but I am tall like 6’0 and I know you are tall too. Are they long enough for you and what size do you wear?

Reply

You seriously have the cutest style! I love it!

Reply

I’m a faller too!! Haha my last big fall was last year’s haunted half in Provo, I tripped I mile 9 because of the roots breaking up the pavement. I was bleeding pretty bad and I started hyperventilating but a guy dressed as a caveman ran alongside me and immediately started asking me about my life and it calmed me down? three cheers for good people.

Reply

I love the Roolee everyday dress! On the website it says it runs a size small. Did you find that to be true?
