Since you and I last hung out:

She was finally able to use her fancy schmancy umbrella to protect her from the rain so that started off the day on the right note.

I lucked out big time for my speed work yesterday.  My crazy speedy friend (1:17:57 half marathon PR) was next to me doing her speed workout while I was doing mine.  She had 400s to get done and I did 1.5 mile repeats but we still got to chat during our recoveries and cool-down which was perfect.  She motivates me big time and she always has the best tips (aka I ask her a million questions about running and she gives me her ideas) for me which I want to absorb and remember for the rest of my running days.  Long story short, she is amazing.

2.55 mile warm-up (stalling again;), 4 x 1.5 miles (6:28 pace, 6:22 pace, 6:18 pace and 6:15 pace) with .5 mile slow recoveries after each one, 1.45 mile cool-down.  12 miles total.  For the incline of each 1.5 mile repeat I started with 0% and then bumped it up .5% each 1/2 mile.  So, 0%, .5% and 1% for each repeat.  My heart rate was sure climbing during the few minutes of each repeat!

IMG 2814

After my run we went up to Salt Lake City.  It was a random blizzard for a bit and they were ecstatic about it (I babysit my friend’s little one each week).   Utah’s weather is so unpredictable this time of year.  I’m pretty sure I just did my long run on Saturday and I was in shorts and getting pretty hot by the end and then yesterday:

IMG 2815

I must have really worn them out because this never happens:

IMG 2819

A cookie present from a friend and while I usually try to share my treats with kiddos… this one was all mine (mother-of-the-year).  There is something magical in these cookies.

IMG 2822

Last night I got an urgent phone call from my sister telling us to bring an Easter basket and to meet them at the BYU baseball fields.  Brooke wasn’t really excited to see her cousin or anything.

IMG 2843

We watched the softball game and then Brooke got to meet all of the players and get their autographs.

IMG 2854

IMG 2859

And then they set out a million Easter eggs.  I think because of the lame weather yesterday a lot of people didn’t show up so each kid ended up with a ton of eggs.

IMG 2864

I told her to be extra speedy because they had a bunch of gift cards in different eggs.

IMG 2893

They all did pretty well for themselves.

IMG 2893

We all ended up with gift cards which meant —>  Pizza Studio for dinner and it was all free.  Don’t mind my nephew, he was just hangry because it was 8 pm by the time we ate.

IMG 2895

This place was awesome because they let you put on as many toppings as you want.  On my pizza I did half bbq chicken, a quarter cheese for Brooke and then the last quarter a bunch of random veggies.  Not a bad way to end a speed work day where all I want is all of the carbs and cheese.

IMG 2899

To end off the night I was in bed at 10 with a book.  Turns out that getting back into training again with speed and long runs is tiring… but I sure love it.

My highlight was baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies last night. I think they turned out great! I’m pretty excited to give them to my coworkers today. :)

My go-to speed workout is definitely repeat 800s. I love and hate them at the same time.

Reply

The highlight of yesterday was getting outside to run in 80 degree weather! It was actually hot!

I love bbq pizza. When we make pizza at home we usually just clean out the veggie drawer and dump it all on a pizza. So good!

Usually we spend time with our nieces and nephews but this year I have a marathon on Easter so I’ll spend the morning running!

Reply

That pizza looks amazing! Lately I’ve been SO hungry all the time thanks to training, so I could definitely go for a full pizza right now. My favorite toppings are mushroom, olive, bacon, lots of cheese. Yum!

My workout this morning was a good one. 2.5 mile warm up, 5 x (0.5 miles a 7:20, 0.5 miles at 8:00) and cool down for a total of 8 miles. It made the time fly by on the treadmill which is awesome!

Reply

I wish they did Easter egg hunts for adults. I would love to get some gift cards! Or candy would be fine too!

Reply

Hahah right? I think we need to start one for runners with all sorts of running clothes/shoes gift cards inside of them. I’m sure it would get quite competitive.

Reply

We don’t even celebrate Easter but always do an egg hunt anyway, can’t deprive my kids! Love the umbrella, I always wind up using my kids’ umbrellas because somehow they’ve taken over the collection :)

Reply

I love anything on pizza but the less grease the better! Usually veggies or just plain ol’ cheese! I don’t blame your nephew…I would be hangry at 8pm too!
I also love hill repeats. They are so hard and hurt so good. I feel like I really got something done when I am finished with them. :)

Ah the faces Brooke does…priceless! She’s a cutie! I did a tempo run yesterday, first intensity since coming back from overseas. It was harder than it should have been (I want to blame jetlag!) but I needed that to get back into my HM training. We were supposed to drive to our hometown on Easter week-end but looks like a snow storm is heading our way… bummer! Still a 4 day week-end though so we’ll enjoy time at home with the little guy for sure!

Reply

Pizza is my favorite food hands down and I often enjoy it toppingless:)
But sometimes a little grilled eggplant or meatball works.

Reply

The highlight of yesterday for me was being in bed by 11pm. Lately I have been so exhausted and I always tell myself I will go to bed by 11 and then don’t go to bed until midnight, so I was proud of myself for the .2 seconds I was awake in bed before I fell asleep!

Reply

Lately I’ve been enjoying short fartleks or cruise intervals (like the 1.5 mile repeats) as my speedwork. They are effective but more fun than stuff like mile repeats!
Mushrooms, bell peppers, and shallots are my current favorite pizza topping.

Reply

They need to do adult Easter Egg hunts! I used to love them!!

What have been some of the highlights in your world the last 1.5 days?
It was 52 degrees yesterday when I got done with work so I had a great 3 mile run outside!! Yay!! So that was awesome considering we are about to get dumped with snow…oh and then it will be 40s and 50s again so it will all melt. Make up your mind Wisconsin weather…for real.

Easter Traditions – used to do egg hunts and all of a sudden my grandma decided to have Easter at a Supper Club on Saturday and I am all sorts of bummed about it. Won’t be the same…

Pineapple and Pepperoni. Oh and Jalapenos. – bomb.com

I don’t have a favorite speed workout – however – I do have a speed workout that I like to practice to have negative splits…the second half of my workout on the treadmill I will continually increase the speed (every minute or so) until I am at full blast for the last bit of the last mile. It challenges me and feels great!

One of my highlights has been that I joined Orange Theory and I absolutely love it! It’s the perfect amount of cardio and weights! I used to just run because I could never motivate myself to do anything else at the gym haha but now mixing in reformer Pilates and Orange Theory into my running schedule has been incredible!

As for Easter, since I live in Florida, my family always goes to the sunrise church service on the beach!

Reply

I’ve heard such great things about orange theory!!!! I’m going to have to try it out. So glad you are loving it so much:) Ummm sunrise church service on the beach… those sounds perfect Kiara! Enjoy!

I’m a fan of 800s because they seem to go by the fastest! As for pizza, give me alltheveggies! Broccoli, spinach, eggplant, I just love it all.

It’s so great that Brooke is so close to all of her cousins! What a special bond to have :)

Reply

I’m so glad Brooke finally got to “officially” use her umbrella! I have never seen someone so happy to see rain. She is too precious!
I had my bridal portraits over the weekend and my photographer sent me one as a teaser and it looks sooooo good! I can not wait to see the rest.
We usually go to a state park in our area and spend the day there and watch all the kids hunt Easter eggs. It’s always so fun! Pepperoni and cheese for me! I know, it’s kinda plain. I like to do 200m repeats with slow 200s in between. Other than that, I’ll also do 400m repeats and tempo runs for longer distances at a goal pace.

Reply

Oh YAY!! Fun about the bridal portraits:) YAY!! Must mean the wedding is getting closer:) Love the state park Easter egg hunt. I’m going to have to try out your 200s! Thanks Karrie and I hope you have a beautiful day.

Reply

Colorado is getting the same crazy weather Utah is. Yesterday was a high of 70 and a run in short sleeves, today is a snow day
We usually go hiking on Easter but my parents are visiting my brother this year so we’ll have to see if I can convince just my husband to go (he won’t tell his mother-in-law no but he’ll tell me lol).
Pizza toppings…anything goes for me. But it better include mushrooms!

Reply

oh my goodness, I love easter egg hunts. do they make those for adults?

for pizza, I’m down for pretty much anything but pepperoni. my favorite is easily chicken, spinach, and ricotta though. the perfect pairing.

Reply

Before I went meatless, I used to love pepperoni and mushroom! Now I like grandma pizza plain or a whole wheat veggie slice

Reply

Whatcha reading? I just finished Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole and it was a real tear jerker! My daughter thought I was nuts :)

Love BBQ chicken pizza or pesto on pizza

Can’t wait to see the kids open their Easter basket goodies. Probably last year they’ll believe in the bunny…

Reply

Okay, well now I am going to have to get that book! Thanks Alicia. I’m reading the Continuous Atonement right now (a religious book:) and loving it! Oh enjoy every second of this last Easter bunny believing year!!!

Reply

My mom always did an easter egg hunt for us with all the neighborhood kids… she has even still done it as we are getting older. too much fun!

Reply

I always hear about these awesome Easter egg hunts after they happen. They should do it during the school day so all the big kids to take all the eggs. The only one I ever went to was a little brutal. It was the Easter egg bouncy ball drop and the eggs had coupons and gift cards inside. There were adults stealing eggs out of little kids baskets and parents getting in fights over it. I think they stopped doing it because of the violence. There have been some good ones right after a few races I’ve been to though.

Reply

I love pineapple and mushrooms on my pizza (but not together!)… I’m even starting to like black olives!

Reply

That’s awesome about the speed work. I need to find someone that I can share some of the paintrain with.

As kids we always used to have an Easter Egg hunt. I’m not sure the plan this year…I actually can’t quite remember what I did last year either.

Reply

It’s always so nice to have someone next to you pushing you, even if you’re doing a different workout! I did a speed workout yesterday that I loved- 10 min WU then 6 min hard 2 min easy, 5 min hard 2 min easy, etc until you get down to 1 min hard then a cool down. I love almost anything on a pizza!

Reply

What a clever blog name- I love it!

Reply

Haha thanks Stephanie!! My husband didn’t find it so funny at first ;)

Reply

My boyfriend’s family has the *weirdest* Easter tradition! They decorate eggs and then go the park and… roll the eggs down a hill.

That’s it. They roll Easter eggs down the hill. Their whole extended family does it, and they are always super excited about it and convinced it’s the best, most fun tradition ever. I don’t get it, but we’re gonna do it this year. :)

Reply

hahahah I love it! That makes me so happy that they all get so into it and everyone is included:) Enjoy and I hope your egg rolls down the fastest haha!

Reply

How do you find out about all of these cool events? I wish my town had fun things like that! We usually decorate our eggs and let the adults hide them first and then we switch and let the kids hide them and the adults find them. It gets really interesting…

Reply

My sister is seriously the best… I don’t know how she finds out about everything but she always includes me luckily:) Last night was because of her husband’s job so that was fun! Come move to Utah:) Okay… I LOVE that you guys switch off. We might have to adopt your tradition!

Reply

It is sooo fun to see where the kids hide the eggs! Just make sure you let them know if there is anywhere off limits because I guarantee you they will find places you didn’t even know existed haha

Reply

Free food always tastes better.

You need to try Pizza Studio’s Moroccon Pizza. It is $$$$$$

Reply

Go together? Eat Moroccon Pizza. Go to Yogurtland across the street after? Laugh a lot.

Reply

My go-to speed workout is 400s! I prefer to sprint all out for a short burst of time than going hard for longer. We don’t have too many Easter traditions besides go to Mass and then eat ham for lunch:)

Reply

I’m battling a little bit of an ankle injury but can’t wait to get back to speed work! Its so tough in the moment but it makes me feel so awesome afterwards! Glad to hear Brooke got her first round of Easter Egg hunts for year in already. Your little family is adorable! :)

Reply

That Easter egg hunt sounds like so much fun. Is there one for adults? Sign me up!

Reply

Those pizzas look delicious!

I have a post that I will be putting up later today about how I make myself do speed work b/c I don’t have ANY speed work that I enjoy – unfortunately! I like the 50 or 100 mile race pace. I feel so much less pressure just going for distance versus speed.

We love chicken, mushrooms, and spinach on our pizza. We tend to love all the food you post, with the exception of the candy. We are not fruity candy people:)

Reply

I love artichokes, olives and mushrooms on my pizza. (Pretty much I love almost any veggies on it and once in a while pepperoni).

highlight: Husband’s surgery healed nicely and he will be monitored for any further signs of cancer. But no more treatments or surgeries in the near future! such a relief. His mustache and goatee are back, his hair is growing in and he’s gained some weight. Yay!

Easter traditions? I make brunch and then we got to my in-law’s later in the afternoon. When my niece was young we would hide Easter eggs for her. When she found them she’d have us hide them again for her; then she would hide them for us. (usually all in a cluster). I miss that, she’s 22 now.

Reply

Happy day! Glad your husband is on the mend and no more treatments needed at this time!

Reply

Thank you! It’s truly the best gift ever.

Reply

I love pizza studio!! It’s like subway but with lots more melted cheese ;)

Dang I wish I knew about that easter egg hunt! I’m all about free food!

We have excellent traditions!

We have an egg decorating contest every year generally the evening before Easter. We trash talk and then plan out our artistry. My husband wins always as he is an artist (as in his career) but we have so much fun. We take photos and post on FB or IG and let everyone vote.

We also do chocolate fondue with marshmallows. We dip the marshmallows, then roll in crushed nuts, candies and sprinkles. The kids love this.

The last thing we do is we do a big Easter egg hunt in the forest (called Lynn Canyon) We hide chocolate in the plastic eggs and then dog treats in the other eggs (color coded so the kids stick to the chocolate) Our dog leads the kids to the candy! They are old so it gets pretty competitive.

Artichokes and tomatoes on my pizza are a must!

Reply

I want to join in on the contest! That sounds like a blast Shalyn! Send me a pic of the winner:) UMMMMM chocolate fondue too… I want to join your family:) Enjoy!

Reply

I like ALL the veggies on my pizza-then it’s basically a salad, right? A cheesy, carb salad. Speed work does build up a healthy appetite. I like doing 800 repeats and it’s always fun to run mile repeats and see where your speed is.

I love Brooke’s hair! Those little pigtails are darling! Our Easter traditions are new dresses for the girls and of course a fun egg hunt. Happy running!

Reply

I used to love pepperoni on pizza but a few years back I had a frozen pizza (well, it was cooked, but you get the picture) with rancid pepperoni and I still can’t eat pepperoni. It all tastes rancid to me now. Icky. I love all the veggies, though! And chicken if it’s a choice.

Easter means an annual Saturday egg hunt at my SIL’s house with a million friends and family and tons of food! Easter Sunday we get together w/ hubby’s family for a crawfish boil and the kids have an egg hunt. Hoping for no rain!

I like a fartlek run these days, makes the time go by quickly and I like the unstructured nature of it since I’m not training for anything right now.

Reply

Looks like you had an overall awesome day yesterday! My highlights of the past 36 hours include absolutely perfect weather here in Florida (sunny with a high of 75… Relient K, anyone?), and getting a long run in yesterday (17.5 miles) yet somehow still feeling energized for the entire rest of the day.

My only Easter tradition is that I must purchase some Jelly Belly jelly beans, even if it’s just a little bag for myself (that definitely happened on Sunday).

Reply

Toppings are my favorite thing on any type of food (ice cream, pizza, sandwiches, etc.)! My favorites for pizza are peppers and tomatoes, and sometimes garlic.

Reply

My coworker and I were just discussing if my baby (she turned 1 yesterday) is too young for an Easter egg hunt….she’s pretty fast though. She might pull her weight. :)
We just got this great new pizza place near-ish my work called Uncle Maddio’s. They do a lot of natural/organic ingredients, and my go-to has been olives, jalapenos and spinach. It might be time for second lunch.
I did a “hill” workout today on the bridge near us at lunch. It’s the only hill in Charleston. But I’m running a half on Saturday that’s going to be hilly and I haven’t run hills since September. Actually felt pretty good to power up them.

Reply

It’s been so long since I’ve been to an Easter event! I used to have so much fun going to Easter egg hunts and can’t wait for my son to be old enough to go to them!

Reply

Oh man I wish I had known about the Easter egg hunt! My daughter would’ve been in Heaven! Those pizzas look amazing! :)

Reply

Artichoke, spinach, and tomatoes!

We are expecting our first little guy any day now and I cannot wait to start Easter traditions with him!

Reply

Just wonder what you eat for breakfast? Do you eat before or after you work out?

Gift cards in Easter eggs sounds awesome!!
