Five: A Random Blog Survey!!!

I am answering JULIE’S awesome blog survey (I added some of my own too:) today because I love these things and I love hearing your answers too!

NewImage

**Five Places I’m Dying to Visit

-Alaska (Brooke and I would take the Disney Cruise to get there:)

-Peru (with my brother that lives in Arizona)—> I’ve always wanted to go there and he lived there for two years and I think he would be the perfect tour guide.

-Paris for the sights, museums and ALL of the food.  And with a husband probably someday;)

-Sydney, Australia—>  my parents went there once and every time they talk about it I have a strong urge to jump on a plane.

-Switzerland—>  one of my best friends will be moving there soon so this dream will be a reality.

**Five Foods I Eat Every Day (I’m sure you could answer this one for me:)

-Sweet Potatoes

-Chicken

-Almond Butter

-Apple

-Sugar (in any shape or form)

**Five Talents I wish I Had

Other than the ones that I already have:;

Screen Shot 2016 03 09 at 4 32 45 PM

-Not breaking my electronics.

-An artist like my dad.  PS when I was young I set up an art store (my dad was the only one that ever bought anything) in the hallway and my dad saved every ‘painting’ that he bought from me.

NewImage

-I would love the talent of not being grumpy when I am tired, cold or hungry… but that probably won’t happen for me in this life.

-I wish I had a killer singing voice.  I practiced and practiced as a little kid (including having my mom wrap my legs up like Ariels and then singing my lungs out to Little Mermaid tunes on the living room floor) but practice sure didn’t make perfect.

-Running a sub 3 marathon;)

Pause from the survey—> Megan has been in Hawaii and we finally got to FaceTime last night and I was just a tad bit emotional about it.

***Five Running Quotes I LOVE

-“Running isn’t a sport for pretty boys… It’s about the sweat in your hair and the blisters on your feet.  Its the frozen spit on your chin and the nausea in your gut.  It’s about throbbing calves and cramps at midnight that are strong enough to wake the dead.  It’s about getting out the door and running when the rest of the world is only dreaming about having the passion that you need to live each and every day with.  It’s about being on a lonely road and running like a champion even when there’s not a single soul in sight to cheer you on.  Running is all about having the desire to train and persevere until every fiber in your legs, mind and heart is turned to steel.  And when you’ve finally forged hard enough, you will have become the best runner you can be. And that’s all you can ask for.” -Paul Maurer.

-“In training and in racing, we all have moments that hurt.  You’ve just got to smile and remember that what you are doing is fun.”  -Desiree Linden

-“That’s the thing about running: your greatest runs are rarely measured by racing success.  They are moments in time when running allows you to see how wonderful your life is.” -Kara Goucher

-“If you are losing faith in human nature, go out and watch a marathon.” -Kathrine Switzer

-“Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.” -Dean Karnazes.

**Five Things I Wear (almost) Every Day

-Running socks.  Even if I don’t run that day I still wear running socks to bed because I love wearing socks to bed.

This sweatshirt.  I don’t know why I am so attached to it but I can’t stop.

-Sneakers… they are just my favorite look with every outfit that I wear… my favorites—> here, here, here and here.

Brooks Launch 3s.  They are my jam these days.

-My Garmin has been worn a lot more lately.

***Five Books On My Current Reading List

What Alice Forgot —>  we are reading it for book club (my second time reading it).

What Happy People Know

-Just finishing up—> Mindset: The New Psychology of Success and I can not recommend it enough.  Game changer for me.

-Just bought All The Light We Cannot See and I’m excited to start!

-The Book of Mormon—>  religious reads are a daily (well, almost daily:) thing over here.

***Five Songs I Listen To On Repeat

Well, according to iTunes, the 5 songs I have listened to the most over the last month since I got my new phone are:

Ironic by Alanis Morisette (my sister and I put it on repeat on our road trip because you should hear our duet to that song)

Photograph by Ed Sheeran (could this song be anymore sweet?)

Roses by The Chainsmokers (I don’t know what it is about this beat but it just puts me in a good mood).

Cute Without the ‘E’ by Taking Back Sunday (currently my absolute favorite running song that was played quite a few times yesterday during my mile repeats).

The Blower’s Daughter by Damien Rice (because I randomly go through phases where all I listen to Damien every chance possible).

***Five Beauty Products I Use Every Day

-Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer (I use it as my foundation/coverup/I don’t know anything about makeup but I use it every day and treat it like gold)

-Dermalogica (talking more about this another day)

-Victoria Secret Lip Gloss —> been addicted a solid 9 years now.

-Burts Bees chapstick—> every night before bed.  I can’t stand dry lips.

-Fake eyelashes.  I started getting them done right after my divorce as a divorce present to myself but I can’t stop… not having to do eye makeup is addicting.

***Five TV Series I Can Watch On Repeat

-Friends

-Gilmore Girls

-Parenthood

-Scrubs

NewImage

-The Office

***Five Random Things I Ate Yesterday

-Some of Brooke’s Goldfish crackers (one of the highlights of motherhood—>  Mommy tax).

-OUR FIRST MEAL AT OUR NEW HOUSE.  Pizza baked in our oven.

IMG 2204

-A tortellini sample at the one and only—> Costco.

-One of my niece’s huge gummy butterflies (they are the actual size of a butterfly).  I had never seen such a thing before and so I had to go for it.

-Broccoli.  Raw.

Switzerland is absolutely amazing! I visited back after I graduated from college and I never wanted to leave. Gorgeous place! It’s so funny that you mention the song Ironic because I have NEVER heard of it, and someone mentioned it to me yesterday and now you are today. That sure is ironic.

Paris is amazing and romantic and beautiful and please do go someday! The Louvre was somehow a million times better than I expected it to be. I want to go back to run the Paris Marathon someday. Ironic is such an amazing song for car karaoke! :)

Reply

I definitely eat the same things every day! Bananas, string cheese, eggs, lettuce, and most days popcorn or chocolate.
I really liked the book what Alice forgot. I am reading ‘You Are a Bada$$ right now.
I work from home, outside most of the time so right now I wear jeans, a North Face vest, beanie, and gloves everyday! It’s windy here.
I love fake eyelashes too. I don’t like how my eyelashes look when I let them go too long. Ha! Yours look great!

Reply

I started getting eyelash extensions after my bad breakup since reading your blog. How often do you get yours filled and do you have any suggestions for making them last as long as possible? I cry a little inside every time one falls off but I try my best to be as gentle as possible around them.

A song I am addicted to running to right now is the “United State of Pop 2015” mashup by DJ Earworm. It is an AWESOME mashup of songs that were popular last year and the beat is perfect for running. I highly recommend!

Reply

Occasionally I’ll wear my Garmin around too. My current favorite shoe for kicking around is the saucony relay kineta. It’s got memory foam in it…so it’s super comfortable.

I’m going to creep on other people’s song choices because I need some new ones LOL.

Reply

oh my gosh I live for M*A*S*H. I love it SO much. I was a kid when it was playing but I still love it. And I’m an old soul, too. And when my husband and I lived in Ft Walton Beach, FL we were so very poor we had no television except what could come through with rabbit ears and that was the channel that gave us the Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, Little House on the Prairie, etc. It was not a bad way to live.

Things I eat everyday: sweet potatoes, broccoli, banana, oatmeal, almonds.

Paris and Switzerland were amazing! I went to Zurich, and the people were so friendly (I don’t speak a lick of German), and there was so much cheese! And chocolate. Of course chocolate. :-) If you make it to Zurich, you have to stop at Cafe Schober for the best hot chocolate and an apple turnover.

I would love to go back to Ireland and then visit:
1) England/Scotland/Wales
2) Pacific Northwest
3) Sweden
4) Colorado
5) New Orleans

Want to see more of our beautiful country before going overseas! :-)

Loving my Polar M400 GPS watch. The updates just keep making it better! They’ve recently added Recovery tracking and Cadence.

Shoot to Thrill by ACDC is another popular repeat – esp. when driving or running. And for a really eclectic choice Sigur Ros – Festival. It’s loooong – but good for a run.

Australia is on my bucket list too! I went to Switzerland last year for my birthday and it was beautiful. You will love it!

I use a tinted moisturizer from Revision called Intellishade. I use as make-up and especially love it because it’s super durable when I’m running outside (and sweating!) I gave heard great things about Laura Mercier’s product though.

I could watch Carrie Bradshaw and her friends on Sex and The City over and over…it’s actually to the point that my husband can quote parts of the show because it’s on a lot in our house!

Five Things I Wear (almost) Every Day

Sports bra (my regular bra comes off almost instantly when I am home for work and if I do not work that day it is a good chance I am staying in sweats).

Ahnu Flats that I bought for $90 before my first trip to Colorado. They are comfortable (supportive) and cute and I will be sad when they no longer look semi appropriate for work.

Lululemon tights – probably my favorite are from studio to street and I cannot find them again but I have two pair and wear them as often as I can. I also have their runner tights and they are love.

Garmin Vivofit 2 because even on my rest days I need to know my step count right?!

Mascara – probably my only makeup that I wear each day.

Greetings from Ireland. I’ve been following your blog for about a year and have become a fan. Think you’re pretty awesome and share your passion for running. Paul Maurer quote is simply awesome. I’ve just started a blog too hopefully it works well see. I’m a bit of a busy fool so really hoping I can keep it up.

I’m training for Rotterdam Marathon in Holland on April 10. NOTHING is going well. Had a chest infection all through Jan. Knee niggles over last few weeks. I currently have a head cold now and massive stress with work but I STILL BELIEVE that I can PB I’m trying to BQ this year in October and want to go Sub 3:10 in four weeks just don’t know if I have the distance in my legs. I would love to believe that I have the base in my legs and the character in between my ears to carry me. Who knows tho. We shall see

Anyway said I would drop a line and say hello. Amazing blog and really feel that we runners need to do our best to inspire others to keep at it. Wouldn’t the world be amazing if we could just get everybody to chase the best version of themselves through running? I mean, what I have achieved through challenging my own self I never would have achieved otherwise and my early experiences were so delicate that I am very thankful to have discovered it. Hope everyone sticks with it. Best wishes Brendan.

Reply

Hi Brendan,
I see you and me are struggling with the same things. Stress with work and knee issues. It will get better. Keep your thoughts positive!

Cheers,
Emma
