Our Sunday Things, my next race and last week’s running!

Just our traditional Sunday morning laziness, pancakes, more laziness and a walk before heading to church.

IMG 2006

Nope, I can’t do that with my tongue Brooke.   (She asked me if I could about 20 times yesterday;)

IMG 2005

I always get Brooke ready first thing and then wait until about 15 minutes before church starts to get myself ready:)  Her hair is just way more fun to style.

IMG 2001

Our last little stroll around our neighborhood before moving.  So many fun memories from living here for the last 1.7 years together but I am SOOOOO ready for this next place.

Nope, still can’t do that Brooke.

IMG 1997

The normal family dinner and Mer brought the grapes of course (I don’t know when her Sunday night fruit bringing tradition started but I’m a huge fan).

IMG 6386

I added to dessert with my PB no-bake cookies (remember when I was pregnant and I couldn’t stand the thought of chocolate and so I made these cookies for my dessert each week?).  They don’t look super appetizing but they are the best.  I asked my aunt to model with them… she loved them too and I think my bro-in-law had 5 of them last night.  RECIPE HERE!

IMG 6394

We also had the sweetest foreign exchange student from Japan over for dinner and it was so much fun to talk with her.  She said her favorite food in America so far has been mac and cheese and she is in love with the Utah mountains!

 IMG 6395

My nephew thinks my sister’s head makes a perfect seat.  We would move him and each time he would crawl right back over and take a seat.

My running from last week:

Monday:  3 miles @ 8:32 pace (treadmill)

Tuesday:  5 miles @ 7:55 pace

Wednesday:  6 miles @ 8:32 pace (treadmill)

Thursday:  10 miles total—>  first 5 with Josse and second 5 on my own.  8:18 average pace.

Friday: 7 miles total.  1 mile w/u 5 miles @ 6:45 average (one minute fast, one minute recovery repeated for 5 miles) and 1 mile c/d (treadmill)

Saturday:  12 miles outside, by myself, 55 degree weather, 7:45 average, first 25% of run was crazy hard, last 75% of run felt a lot better.

Sunday:  OFF:)  A walk with Brooke before church is all.

43 miles total for the week.

I HAVE SIGNED UP FOR A RACE!!!!!  Finally!!! It feels like it has been forever.  I’ll be running the Provo City Half Marathon (for my third time wahoo) on May 7th!! I think this half is one of my favorites.  The course is crazy beautiful and they always put on a really organized race.  Come run it this year and use the code HUNGRYRUNNERGIRL to get 20% off the 1/2 marathon or 5k!!!

2 years ago I ran this course in 1:24:43 and I think this year I’ll be shooting for about a 1:27-1:28 if I can get some super solid training in over the next 7 weeks and then go from there and try to cut down my time with each 1/2 for the rest of the year (I have a lot of them I want to do).

I can do Brooke’s tongue trick. My husband can’t though.

Next race is in Clayton, NM in two weeks! I can’t believe it is almost here. I’m definitely ready for it. Good luck with your training! I think that getting your speed back with the half will be exactly what you need to break 3 hours in the full!

Reply

I can and my husband can’t. One of our daughters can and one can’t!

My next race isn’t until the Chicago Marathon this fall! The spring/summer is when I start getting really jealous of you guys in states where you can race all year long, down here it just gets too hot so they don’t even put races on except for 1 or 2 5Ks.

I tried my first “no bake” recipe this weekend (brownies) and it … was an interesting experience! I love how easy it is to make a no bake dessert and I love the consistency, but I don’t think I used the right ingredients. I mean it tastes healthy, but maybe a little bit too healthy to be called a dessert haha!

Hahah Brooke is hilarious and just so very talented. You had such a solid week of training! I’m doing Race13.1 Memphis on April 9th and also doing an instagram giveaway for an entry if anyone wants to join me!

I went to Oxford, MS this weekend to visit my boy friend’s sister and we had a blast except it was raining the whole time, but I got a 12 miler in on Saturday too and it felt great.

Reply

Hmm. I would love to do that half if I could! I’ve always wanted to run one out there. It looks gorgeous! I have a 5k at the end of next month and will probably wait until the fall to do another half.

The best part of my weekend was dancing with my family on Saturday night and then spending all day outside Sunday. And froyo, of course. :)

Reply

We talk about that tongue trick too, apparently some people just can’t do it, I think most of my family can :) When I was pregnant I wanted almost nothing to do with sweets, but anything salty, like cheetos, grilled cheese with bacon and curly fries were irresistible :)

Reply

Yay for signing up for a race! My next big one is a marathon next month, but I have a few tune up races before then, including this Saturday! Best part of my weekend was taking a walk along the river because the weather was BEAUTIFUL on Saturday!

Reply

My next race isn’t until July and I wish I was racing sooner. The thing is I can never do tune up races during marathon training because especially in the half marathon I just love to go all out!

Reply

I am running my very FIRST Boston marathon in 5 weeks! I am very tired from training but excited all at the same time!

AHHHHH I am so so so excited for you Sara! You are going to love it!

My next race is the OKC Memorial, seven weeks away and I seriously need to start training! Just doing the half so I’ve been really lazy with training.
Best part of my weekend was enjoying the beginning of Spring Break! I teach first grade so I am definitely looking forward to a week off:)

Reply

My only race this year is going to be the Philadelphia Marathon in November. I might do a half marathon during training though as a practice race.

Best part of my weekend was dinner on Saturday night. Matt and I decided last minute to go out to a nice restaurant, so we go dressed up and spent too much money. But it was worth it!

Yes I can do Brooke’s tongue trick!

Reply

Yes I can do the tongue roll-up! My next race is Boston -aah!

Reply

I’m doing the Equinox 4 Miler next weekend and the Women’s Classic 10 Mile in May. It’s been awhile since I’ve done a race, so I’m excited!
The best part of my weekend was going through Jazzercise workshop and certifying as an instructor :)
My brother and I can both do that with our tongues but neither of our parents can. Weird right?

Reply

Yes…I can do the tongue trick.

Your aunt is such a natural…and her skin is glowing. Good genes in the family I guess.

Reply

Haha I can do the tongue trick. But I can’t blow a bubble if that makes you feel better? :) I’m running the Iron Girl Half on April 10! Probably one of the last races before it gets too hot outside in FL.

Reply

I definitely remember, beer doing that tongue trick as kids. Ha, I haven’t thought about it since.

That’s exciting for your half marathon Janae. I think you are going to crush any goals you set for it. I’m doing the Shamrock half marathon this weekend which I’m excited for, even though it’s supposed to pour rain.

Reply

Cherry Blossom 10 miler in DC first week of April!
I had such a lovely weekend. Best part was coffee and bagels for breakfast yesterday with the boyfriend while we planned our next vacation. :)

Reply

Yay!! So excited for your next race and to see what other half marathons you will be doing! My next race is…the Milano Marathon in now..less than 3 weeks!! First marathon :) Best part of my weekend was catching up on a lot of reading (definitely recommend The Nightingale!). And I can do that tongue trick!

Reply

Do not know my next race :(
I can do brook’s tongue trick.
I really was not too sick during pregnancy, but I could not stand leftovers. I would crave something, eat it…….and then decide gross. it was weird.

Reply

I’m running the Hot Chocolate 15K in Minneapolis on April 16th! And obviously going to Mall of America haha. The highlight of my weekend was seeing a bunch of friends Friday and Saturday night!

Reply

Next race is the Santa Cause half marathon in the North Pole this summer!

Reply

I can curl my tongue!
I may be signing up for my first half the same weekend as yours…I had to defer what would have been my first half last November due to injury. I was So Ready to get a sub-2 with my last long run prior to injury being 10 miles at an 8:30 pace, but since, I have just lost my confidence. I started an 8 week training plan just today which should work with my current level of fitness, but I just don’t have that positive feeling I had last fall…hoping to do it in under 2:10 and the half that I had to defer until this fall I will aim for a sub-2 I guess.

That is if I am not too chicken to register for the May half…

Reply

COME DO IT!! That 8 week plan sounds awesome and with each week of building up your fitness you will feel more and more positive! Provo city half is my favorite! I’m so sorry about your injury last November!

Reply

I don’t know when my next race will be, but hopefully not too far away. Probably end of summer, beginning of fall of all goes well.

Yes I can do the tongue trick.

And with my first pregnancy it was chcolate I couldn’t stand to think of. With my second it was goldfish crackers. With this one it has mostly been sweet/salty combo, like chcolate covered pretzels or trail mix.

Reply

I am running a Half at the end of April. Tear Drop Mountain. It is apparently down a mountain for the most part of 8 miles and then a flatter finish. I am excited to see what running a mostly downhill (2000+ft loss) race is like! New challenges!

Reply

So funny about your Japanese exchange student. We hosted a Japanese girl last year, and the one thing she really wanted to eat was mac and cheese! It must have a reputation in Japan. :)

I just decided to run a 10 mile race on Mother’s Day. I am so nervous because I haven’t run a race since my last half marathon two years ago. Like you said, the endurance always comes back, but it’s a little nerve-racking since right now I am nowhere close to running that far.

Reply

Hey Elizabeth!!! I’m stoked you signed up for a 10 miler! YOU’VE GOT THIS!!! Take the training week by week and before you know it your endurance will be back:) Oh and that is super funny about the mac and cheese… I mean it is delicious!

Reply

My next race is a 5 KM this weekend called the Laurier Loop!

Best part of this weekend was leading a blind runner to a new 5 KM PR of 20:27!

Reply

I’ve got the Philly LoveRun Half on april 10th and I’m stoked. This is my first official half marathon (I’ve run the distance before, just not in a race) and I couldn’t be more excited/nervous.

And I can do the tongue trick, but as a kid I couldn’t until I spent a whole day holding my tongue like that and then I could. I’m sure holding it had nothing to do with it, but when I was younger, I was convinced I taught myself haha!

Reply

My next race is this weekend – running a fun 5K during my training and I have a time that I would like in mind – but it will be my first race of any kind since Thanksgiving so I just want to have fun!!

This weekend was wonderful – almost 70 degrees on Saturday and I went for a run and was able to catch up with a friend I haven’t seen in two years! Also – another friend visited me yesterday and we went hiking! It was the bomb.com weekend in my book! Also broke out the bike for the first time in forever!!

Can’t do Brooke’s trick. My brother used to tease me growing up because he can do it and I can’t – apparently it is genetic (or so I have heard). I did not get the “tongue burrito” gene.

Reply

After racing in a downpour yesterday I will wait til there’s a guarantee of good weather for my next race. I am planning to run the San Jose Giants run, or Wharf to Wharf in July.

The best part of my weekend was my Papa’s 90th birthday on Saturday and catching up with family.

Reply

I have four kids and I can’t remember anything that was suddenly terrible but I craved cole slaw. When I’m not pregnant I can’t stand the stuff but I couldn’t get enough when I was pregnant. Esp Chick fil a!! My craziest pregnancy love was sticking my head in the freezer. And any freezer. I loved the cold and the crisp smell. So weird. Doesn’t do anything for me now that I’m not pregnant.

Reply

I lost my sweet tooth when I was pregnant! It was crazy. Also, peanut butter didn’t sit good in my stomach either. Total opposite of my Normal self. My next half is May 1st and I think I’m running a 10k on April 2!

Reply

I’m just starting to get into training for my next half in early May too and hoping I can stick to the tough training plan my coach has laid out for me so I can finally PR. And I love Brooke’s tongue trick, too adorable!! Have a fabulous day!

Reply

Where can I get your black shoes with the white soles?!!!!

Reply

Those cookies sound delicious! When I was pregnant I couldn’t go near anything with sage. I was pregnant at Thanksgiving so that was a bummer.

Reply

I’m always up for a good peanut butter cookies or peanut butter anything really! I can do that with my tongue!

Reply

I can curl my tongue, my husband cannot.

Our weekend was just generally a good one. My husband had surgery this morning and it went well, we should be going home soon!

Reply

I’m running the Salt Lake half marathon in a couple more weeks! It’ll be my third half, but first time running this course. :)

Reply

AHHHHHH I love that race so so much! You are going to love it Kaitlin! Let me know what you think after you run it!

Reply

Woohoo!!! Races are my favorite (along with about 50 other things)

I can do the tongue thing.
I have 4 races coming up in the next 90 days. In my defense, the first two are warm-up races for the third one (a Half Ironman in St George) and the one after that is a half marathon that I love to do with my sister.

I’m crazy. I could explain. But it’s a long story :)

Reply

Haha Brooke’s little tongue is so cute and tiny!!

I’m 31 weeks pregnant right now and can only JUST stomach ice cream again. It’s been a rough ride and I plan on making up for lost time ;)

Reply

Hi Janae!
I can curl my tongue. Apparently it has some basis with genetics, but apparently some people can teach their tongue to do it. Hmmmm, worth the work, not sure… :)

Brooke’s face in the first picture is so wonderful. PURE JOY.

Do you have any tips for finding a half marathon training plan? I have a 5k next weekend, a 10k in May, and I would love to do a half marathon at the end of June! Just not sure how to increase my mileage besides slowly adding in more each day?

Reply

This link has a lot of information. But, do what works best for you. Just don’t increase mileage too quickly. I did that the first time and I ended up with an IT band injury. Good luck!

My next race is this Saturday. It’s a 15K and my first race this year after having two random injuries. After several weeks out and some PT it’s just great to be able to start racing again. And I sure hope it goes well because my next race is a half marathon about another month from now. Funny, my 15K goal time is your 13.1 goal time, lol.

Reply

My next race is the Sleepy Hollow Half marathon in less than 2 weeks. The first half the year is always interesting to see where I’m at.

The best part of my weekend was an early St Patrick’s day dinner with my boyfriend and our neighbor. There was SO much food!

I can do Brooke’s tongue trick, I think most of my family can too.

Reply

My next race is this weekend! Quintiles/Wrightsville Beach Marathon
I’m looking forward to this race. I always celebrate my birthday by running a race and this is the one. Hopefully it’ll also be my 3rd BQ!

This weekend contained zero things planned, which was nice for a change. We had weather in the 70s and my family and I enjoyed every minute of it. My neighbor did surprise me with an early birthday dinner and homemade red velvet cake.

I couldn’t eat chicken or look at chicken while I was pregnant with all 3 of my boys. I couldn’t stand coffee either. Those aversions no longer exist (thankfully).

I can do Brooke’s tongue trick. I’ve heard it’s genetic.

Have a great week!

Reply

Next run is probably my Army PT test in May! LOL, have to work on speed. After that then I’ll worry on distance.

Best part of the weekend was daughters B-day party. It was a Star Wars theme with me as Darth Vader (rented high dollar costume), wife as Rey, Daughter 1 and B-Day girl as Leia – “I am your father!” – toddler daughter as Yoda, baby son as R2-D2 and FIL as Obi Wan.

I can do the tongue thing, and I think it’s actually genetic. Or….maybe not:

I decided to run a 10K this weekend in St. George and then my next race will be Boston. My favorite part of the weekend was going to Zion National Park, it was too cold to do much of a hike, but it’s so wonderful to take in all that beauty. Happy running!

Reply

I’m preggers now! I can’t stand chicken, popcorn, garlic (unless it is with tomatoes), and tap water! My poor husband can’t eat any of his favourite foods!

Reply

Just ran a half yesterday and I PR’ed, was so excited, my next race is the mountains to the beach marathon in CA. Yes I can do Brooke’s tongue trick! :) my race was the best part of the weekend along with the celebratory burger and beer!

Reply

My next race will probably be in the Fall. I am due in May and want to train for a half that is at the end of September. Wish me luck ha! And yay for signing up for a race! I actually can’t do Brooke’s cool tongue thing ever! I have always tried and failed. During pregnancy so many things sound awful at the beginning, but as my morning sickness fades more and more of my normal foods sound appealing. :)

Reply

My next race is the Ford Island Bridge 10k.

Best part of my weekend was volunteering at the Pineapple Sprint Road Race (cycling.) My husband got second in his age group.

Yes, I can do that tongue trick!!

Reply

Yay for the promo code! Thank you! I’m running the Riverton Half in a couple weeks, the Provo City Half, and then the Utah Valley FULL marathon (this is my 2nd full and my previous one was 10 years ago!). P.S. I was the one that said hello on your run on Saturday. So fun running into you :).

Reply

Omg, your nephew on your sister’s head made me laugh out loud .. more than once haha The cutest!

Reply

I love those peanut butter cookies. I like to smash them down in a pan, spread melted chocolate chips on top and then cut them into bars.

Reply

I can do Brooke’s tongue trick!

I so badly want to come to Utah for a race – never been! PS – I tried your Bare apple chips and now I cannot stop either!

Have you ever tried those cookies with Almond butter – would it work?

Reply

I CAN do Brooke’s tongue trick… must be a hidden talent that I didn’t realize til today. I love how toddlers have to re-ask the same questions over and over – my son does that, too! It’s precious but drives me nuts some days! When I was pregnant the last time, I didn’t like coffee for a while. Which is insane because it’s near essential to my day! Those peanut butter cookies look great :)

Next race: Fargo Marathon on the weekend of May 21st!

Reply

I need to find a race! All of them that I want to run are pre 4/18.

I can’t do the tongue thing but I have kids who can.

Reply

Lee, are you a CPA by chance? I had to laugh because I know how the world is divided into pre- and post 4/18. Hope you’re still getting good runs in when you can!

Reply

every morning………..I don’t let it steal my workouts anymore! I’m a much more pleasant person when I get to run regularly. Have a good day!

Reply

Next race is a 25k trail race this weekend then Flying Pig in Cincinnato end of April! My favorite part of the weekend was celebrating our engagement, just my fiancée & I :) !!!!!!

Reply

I just signed up the MORE/SHAPE Half Marathon in mid-April. It will be my first one – I am nervous, but very excited to be committed to something. I hope it’s the first of many races to come.

And I know it’s different from one person to the next, but at how many miles do you usually take a gel or something like it? Which ones do you like? I’ll be trying them out for the first time soon here.

Brook’s tongue trick is adorably impressive!

Reply

Sooooo are 5 cookies a lot? I mean, you say it like it’s a lot, but mathematically speaking, when it comes to cookies I don’t think 5 means a lot.

Evan had that same shirt when he was your nephews age. Tear. Why do they get so big so fast? And I know all about toddlers thinking your head is a great seat. Felicity does it to me all the time. But I basically let that girl get away with everything. I am pretty sure that will never come back to bite my butt either #LiesITellMyself

Reply

I can do the tongue trick. I am thinking about running the Dallas Rock N Roll half marathon this Sunday (so last minute)!! My mother-in-law visited this weekend and we went on our boat, out to fun restaurants, to the Dallas Aboretum and the Fort Worth Stockyards!

Reply

I am running the Teton Dam Half in June!!! Best part of my weekend was my longest run this training cycle at 8 miles and having my little sister visit my family!

I think the mac and cheese thing is too funny! I am living in Japan now myself.
