A Valentine’s Day Questionnaire and Toddlers.

How I plank with turf toe.  Running doesn’t hurt it but putting pressure on it and bending it like it does while in plank feels awful so I get my plank on with my right foot on top of my left.

While I love (/hate…it is really hard) bootcamp and the benefits of strength training… one of the biggest things that keeps me going is for the social aspect.  Working out with friends is my absolute favorite way to bond with people.  Thanks again Meg, my legs are probably going to be sore for a solid week after last night’s workout.

IMG 7885

Brooke slept through bootcamp at my parents’ house… gymnastics days take it all out of her… I get it Brooke.

IMG 7892

Once she woke up she tried to help me with my flexibility.  This is as far as I can go.

IMG 7879

Brooke told me that she had to go to the bathroom and when she didn’t come out for a bit I went to check on her and she had taken her pajamas off, was washing her horses and putting on my lip gloss.  Toddlers sure can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time.

Also, yes.

IMG 7854

Before bed we got to work on Brooke signing all of her V-day cards for her classmates.

IMG 7899

She would also read to me what each card said.

I have 14 very important V-day questions to ask you.  Feel free to answer as many as you would like.  I love holidays and want to know all of your thoughts on the day.

1.  Who is your Valentine this year?

-Brooke Lin Jacobs

Photo on 2 10 16 at 8 56 PM 3

2.  Have any V-day traditions?

-Heart shaped pancakes for breakfast (with every red sprinkle in Utah) and then we take Brooke and my sister’s kiddos to go pass out chocolate to the college kids at BYU.

3.  Have any interesting Valentines Day stories?

-Last year I was asked out on a date for Valentines Day.  I was stoked and we had texted that morning about it and then he never showed up to pick me up.  No texts, no phone calls.. nothing.  I 100% thought that I had been stood up on VALENTINES DAY so my mom took me to Bajios so that I wasn’t alone that night.  I was not very happy with him until the next day he called to tell me that he was hiking that day and his group got lost and search and rescue had to come find them.  I felt awful for assuming the worst about him and thinking that I was stood up when in reality he was in a crazy dangerous situation.  We went on a fun date the next day.

4.  Favorite chick flick love story?  Book or movie?

5.  Do you have any favorite Valentines Day recipes—>  desserts or meals?  Help us non-creative peeps out:)

6.  Flowers or candy?  If you chose candy what candy would you love to receive on Valentine’s Day?

-Chocolate covered cinnamon bears and gummy bears.

IMG 7903

7.  Are you running a race on V-day?  Have you ever run a Valentines themed race?

-I did two years ago and wore some nifty heart socks for the occasion.

NewImage

8.  Any memories (funny or otherwise) from elementary school making and passing out Valentines?

9.  Is anyone’s birthday on Valentine’s day?

10.  Favorite cheesy/love song?

11.   Anyone proposed to on Valentine’s Day?  Know of anyone proposed to or married on V-day?

12.  Your favorite kind of date—>  out to a fancy restaurant or take-out and a movie at home?

13.  Favorite quote about love or your definition for what love is?

14.  Unrelated to Valentine’s Day but very important for Gilmore Girls lovers… how do we feel about Jess returning?

My middle daughter’s birthday is Feb 12 and we brought her home on Valentines Day in a cute heart hat – so since then that’s my Valentines Day association :) The perk for her is bringing V-day themed donuts to school :) And always chocolate over flowers for me!

Aww Brooke! I honestly forget she’s even a toddler because she seems SO grown up sometimes, but I love seeing the sweet video and how cute she is! My running buddy works at Lululemon so she goes to every single workout class in our city as a part of their community outreach. After our run yesterday she wanted to give me a little “boot camp” because she always makes fun of me for being a weak runner and it was SO hard. I was just whimpering and whining the whole time while she laughed at me, but I think it’s now going to be a weekly thing. My arms are literally too tired to type anymore lol! Her and Meg need to go easy on us.

I’ll hit the Gilmore Girls question first because it’s the most important. I have mixed feelings about Jess in general, but I think he needs to be in the revival. He was a big part of her story, good or bad, so I’m glad he’ll be back.

I have a good friend who got married on Valentine’s day. I’m not a big fan myself. I’d rather go out with my husband on about any other day than Valentine’s Day! We will probably just stay in and spend some time together. That’s all I need! And maybe some chocolate! :)

First Valentine date with my husband (outside of our own kitchen!) since my son was born over 6 years ago ;-) We are travelling to our hometown for a wedding on Valentine week end so my mom with watch the little one while we enjoy a fancy diner. It is such a luxury for us to have family around… I really wish we’d live closer ;-) Yes, I remember the toddler years! They are very “creative” in so many different ways!

I’m running a race the day before Valentine’s Day this year! I’m kinda bummed though because the high that day is 9 degrees…every other day the high is around 30 so why does THAT day have to be so cold!? Maybe no one will show up and I’ll win my age group :)

I’m excited about Jess returning! I always like the bad boy in TV shows (and when I started dating in college) so he was always my favorite. He turned out to be really sweet towards the end too so I’m happy he’s back. Plus, I just love the actor ;)

Reply

I can’t believe how long I’ve been reading your blog! I feel like that Valentine’s Day race was just yesterday, haha!

What a story about your date from last year getting lost on a hike! So crazy, I’m glad everything turned out okay in the end.

I am running a half marathon on Valentine’s Day! <3

I’m lucky to have an amazing boyfriend and we will be celebrating our second valentines together but this holiday isn’t my favorite. I don’t like how it makes singles feel. I was single for 15 years after my hubby died and dreaded it.
I do love a good Reese’s pb heart though. :)
And flowers make me happy so I would pick them.
My Labradoodle is always my first love though.
He stole my heart 7 years ago.

I love that Jess is returning! This makes me happy. :)

And I have Valentine’s Day (yes, I’m that person).

Reply

I can’t believe how long we’ve been blogging friends. It’s crazy. I love Valentine’s Day but I’m a sucker for romance. I might have to steal this survey. If it wasn’t do cold I might be inclined to do a race this weekend.

I lobed Gilmore Girls back in the day, but I haven’t been too excited about the revival yet. But Jess was my favorite character on the show, and after Peter (same actor) not returning in the Heroes revival, at least he’s back somewhere!
I always like chocolate over flowers!

Reply

Lol on the “Hell hath no fury…” one – YES!! :)

Reply

I have a marathon this year on Valentine’s Day…. which means instead of doubting myself when it starts to get hard I will give myself extra love and encouragement to keep going :)

My Valentine’s are my hubby and 2 daughters :)

I just finished the entire 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls on NetFlix (per your recommendation). I thought it was over… There will be more? I cannot wait! Jess coming back is not top on my list. He’s not right for Rory. < my opinion I like Logan. Even though he started out being a spoiled punk, he really was a good guy and I thought they were good for each other. ahhhh…. When will the next season be released? Any idea?

Hah valentines day when I was 10, I cartwheeled off a stage and busted open my chin, had to get I think 9 or 10 stitches! That’s my vday memory hahah

Hi Janae!
my b-day is on Valentine’s and I run a HM in Verona!

That’s how I did my plank when I had a stress fracture. My dog’s birthday is the day after Valentine’s Day, does that count?!

Where are your workout pants from? They’re so cute!
My Valentine is my hubby-it’s our first married Valentine’s Day :) (and yes, I’m totally that person that makes a big deal of everything “oh it’s our first married this….”) We’re running a 5k and then having a Blue Apron date at home the day before Valentine’s Day. And chocolate always over flowers!

I totally have a bit of turf toe in my right foot. I’m thinking it’s a weird ligamenty pregnancy symptom. Annoying, and I totally wore the wrong shoes to work this morning.

I loved Jess on Gilmore Girls! I’m so happy he’s going to be back!

I’d pick chocolate over flowers all day long, but I love fresh flowers as well. The hubster and I are going out for brunch for V-day since it falls on a Sunday, but we don’t usually do much to celebrate.

Reply

I have been reading your blog for like 2 years but I’ve never replied but when you ask about Jess I have to reply :) I have watched every episode of Gilmore Girls at least 4 times and Jess is so wrong for Rory. I really don’t like that he is coming back. None of the boys Rory date were good enough for her and especially not Jess. I really hope he doesn’t mess up the great life I imagine her having in the revival. Yes I take Gilmore girls too seriously :)

Reply

RACHEL!!! So good to hear from you and I take it too seriously too which means you and I would be good friends! You’ll have to let me know what you think of the new episodes…

Reply

Well I have to admit that i am not a big fan of this holiday but it can be fun especially with all the chocolate going around!
Brooke’s mischief reminded me of when I was little that I did exactly the same – right before we had to go to church for the easter service… I put on me my grandmother’s brand new lipstick :) And of course when I say on me I am mean EVERYWHERE including my new church outfit!! LOL!

Reply

Jess was my favorite! I’m so happy he’s coming back!

I’m running a marathon on Valentine’s Day! Am also prepared, with some cute heart compression socks. ;)

Love Jess. He’s so dark and broody, and I love it!

Reply

AHHHHH MARIA!!! That is so so exciting! GOOD LUCK… you’ve got this! make sure to send in your accomplishment for me to post after your race!!

I agree with you about Jess.

Reply

That video of Brooke is so adorable! I miss doing Valentines during school.. That was the best part of the whole holiday! Haha. Ahh flowers or candy.. I love them both. I think I’d have to pick flowers though because they brighten up my whole apartment. Yes, I have bought some for myself before haha.

Reply

Happy Valentine’s Day- I LOVE your blog! Question: where do you get those AMAZING chocolate covered cinnamon gummy bears? Is it a Utah thing? I’m in Philly and it would be wonderful if I could find them over here.
hugs!
Amanda

Reply

Oh my gosh THANK YOU for this!!! I love chocolate covered gummy bears and every time you post about the chocolate covered cinnamon bears I know I would love them too, but I just assumed they were only available in Utah. Having access to them now = life changing :)

Now to answer some of your very important questions:

My valentine this year is my husband.

I always always always choose candy over flowers! As for which candy…hmmmm that’s tough…in addition to chocolate covered cinnamon bears, I’ll go with a box of See’s candy…preferably hand picked with all of my faves :)

Gilmore Girls!!! Love this show and so excited for any and all of the original actors/characters to appear so YES to Jess!

Reply

Ha…maybe I should mention that this is a different Amanda than who asked about the chocolate covered cinnamon bears :)

Reply

Valentine’s Day was super fun and exciting in elementary school, but then it kind of turned into a huge competition for who got the most gifts and it lost its fun. I really struggled with this holiday since Jr high. Even if I ended up getting stuff, then I felt bad for people who didn’t. So I LOVE that you take Brooke to hand out candy at BYU. That’s awesome.
We don’t have really any traditions. In fact it remains a holiday that I struggle a little with. My mother in laws bday is on Valentine’s. So the majority of the time we don’t do anything to celebrate except visit her. She’s great, but I want a one on one time with my husband too.

Toddlers- the things they can think of and the speed that they get them done is impressive. I wish I could get all of my todo list done in that amount of time.

Reply

I am ok with Jess returning as long as he doesn’t end up with Rory! Team Logan all the way!

Reply

Brooke is TOO CUTE filling out her Valentine’s cards. So sweet. And washing horses, of course. LOL. I have always loved V-day. I think it is probably because my mom always made it special for me as a little girl. She’d always have a little surprise for me, whether it was candy or some kind of small, cute heart treat like socks or something like that. I still love it today and enjoy just doing something special for other people. This year, my husband and I are going to a wedding for Valentine’s weekend in Georgia. The wedding is on the 13th but a fun way to spend the weekend. Your Vday date story is insane! Wow! Hope you are doing well. Sending you a Valentine’s hug :) xo

Reply

When kids are quiet you know it’s trouble! She’s so cute. My cousin got married one year on February 13 at a hotel in nyc so spending the night into Valentine’s Day that year was really fun! I still remember my chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast :)

Reply

Hahaha that is so funny that Brooke was washing her horses! Toddlers do the craziest things.
My Valentine is my fiance, Vincent. Every year we go out to a nice dinner. We like it because we rarely ever go to fancy places so it is a real treat when we get to go.
My favorite chick flick love story is Allie and Noah. The Notebook will forever hold my heart ;) I have watched it about 268,357 times!
I would much rather get candy over flowers and I usually do (he’s seriously the best!). I like to get the heart shaped box of chocolates that is full of Dove hearts.
My aunt and my uncle got married on Valentine’s day!

Reply

My birthday is today! And I got engaged on my birthday/Valentine’s day many (many) years ago. Marriage didn’t last, though. Oh well.

My definition of what love is and what I want has changed a lot in the last few decades and I think continues to evolve. It is a very complicated subject.

Gilmore Girls: I had mixed feelings about Jess during the early Gilmore Girl years, as I thought he was the bad boy and I wanted her to end up with Dean, who was such a sweetheart. (Never, ever was I team Logan!) But in the later years I thought that Dean was a good and sweet first boyfriend but not in her league, intellectually. I think her real attraction to Jess was not for his bad boy image but for his brain. And toward the end he was a good friend to her (calling her out on being with Logan, quitting Yale, not doing what was best for her). He grew up, and his artistic, intellectual side (he was a reader, a writer, etc.) is what makes him the best match for her. I hope that is the Jess that appears in the new shows!
I obviously am way too invested in these fictional characters….

^ I meant my birthday is on Valentine’s Day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON SUNDAY LILY!!! Your analysis of the different boys in Rory’s life was dead on. I was shaking my head yes as I read your comment:)

Tradition: My hubby and I have made each other Valentines on Valentine’s night since 2001………back before we were even married. I have every one saved!

I am so excited Jess is returning! He was my favorite of Rory’s boyfriends! And literally can’t wait for the revival, I rewatch gilmore girls regularly! Valentines is one of my favorite holidays and even more so now with a toddler! We make a big deal over every holiday in our house!

Reply

Also I just read that all the Rory boyfriends are returning! Should be very exciting!

Reply

ALL OF THEM?!?! Well, that is just the greatest!

Reply

I absolutely love holidays too! We usually stay in on Valentines day and have dinner as a family: heart shaped everything (thanks Pinterest)
This year I will be running the LA Marathon on Valentine’s day with my husband of 21.5 years!! (my 2nd full, his 9th). It will be a great day for sure!!
My all time favorite chick flick is When Harry Met Sally (old, I know). I could watch it a million times!
My Valentines are my hubby and our 2 boys <3

Reply

When Harry Met Sally is my all time favorite too!

Reply

Love the scene with Sinatra singing “It Had To Be You” when Harry runs through the streets of NYC. That song was featured in our wedding video.

Another reason why I want to run NYC marathon someday (maybe this year if I get in on lottery?)

Reply

That song is featured in our wedding video as well!!
I would love to run the NYC marathon some day too! It would be such an awesome experience!

Reply

I was asked out last year on Valentine’s day by a guy I met at my gym. Let’s just say he was creepy and would not tell me anything about himself. It was the most bizarre thing ever then he wanted me to come over to his house the next day for dinner. I said no in fear I would become dinner!

Reply

First of all, love that Jess is returning, but I’m a Logan girl so I was way happier about that one. So stoked for the whole series.

I’m a huge Valentine’s fan because it was my grandpa’s birthday and he always loved it. Plus, who hates a holiday that celebrates chocolate? not this girl. I’m much more of a chocolate fan than a flowers fan, but I’d never turn away either haha.

Reply

No valentines day traditions over here. Actually my own tradition is to order a medium heart shaped pizza from Boston pizza (Canadian pizza place) and eat the whole thing myself. My husband is usually off building a robot on V-Day weekend, so I’m usually by myself the entire weekend/day as the deadline for the robot is tuesday. This year no robot building, but home renovations instead? Yay!?

I’m excited for Jess to be back. I think out of all three, I like him the most. But Logan isn’t too far behind.

Reply

Not sure how I feel about Jess but I think he needs to be in the reunion. Love Brooke with the lip gloss.

My husband is my Valentine and has been for 29 years (we met the summer after high school). We have been out on Valentine’s Day 3 times – 1 wedding, 1 very nice wine dinner and 1 time at Mexican place I love that is very casual.
Generally we stay home and hang out together. He makes me ravioli (it’s the only thing he cooks that isn’t on the grill) or I make brunch.
I love both flowers and dark chocolate. (I like a mixed arrangements best).
When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail are two of my favorites.
Remember When by Alan Jackson.
No race and I’m glad, it’s supposed to be about 8 degrees out.

Reply

Valentines Day birthday! That’s me!

It’s seriously not that great. Babysitters are expensive, friends are hanging out with significant others or moping that they are alone, restaurants offer special more expensive menus and are full of couples. I’m going to hang with my kids at home and probably go on a date with my husband on another day.

Reply

I love Gilmore Girls and Jess is definitely my favorite! Jess grown up and working in the little book publishing shop…❤️ I really wanted to see that Jess and Rory together.

My daughter is 6 and she still gets naked, plays with her toys in the sink and comes out wearing lipstick! Lol!

Reply

I’ve been sick all week, so I’m not sure I’m going to feel up to going out on Valentine’s. I thought we’d go to a nice dinner, or something, but maybe dinner and a movie at home will be just the ticket.

And, I’ll be happy with a bag of Dove Chocolates this Valentine’s! :)

Reply

It looks like I’m my own valentine this year.

My parents’ anniversary is on Valentine’s Day (this year will be 46 years). Because of their anniversary and all of the hearts and love stuff around I thought everyone got married on Valentine’s Day – until I was like 10. I wasn’t very smart. ;)

I LOVE Jess!!!!!

Have you tried doing planks on a stability ball? It wont hurt your toe and it also works your obliques to keep stable.
My valentine this year is my husband (1st valentine as a hubby!)
Favorite valentine’s quote is Dr Seuss’s Quote:
“We are all a little weird and, Life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weridness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

Reply

Good call Kathy… I will totally switch over to the stability ball for planks! AHHH yay for the first v-day with your husband and that quote… perfection!

I remember our valentine’s party from 1st grade like it was yesterday. I was so excited the night before I could barely sleep. We had made special mailboxes for our valentines (decorated tissue boxes). I got to school and was having fun at the party until…I threw up all over the place! I was so embarrassed and sick! Also, they couldn’t get a hold of my mom (before cell phones), so my grandmother came and picked me up. I was so sad I didn’t get to enjoy the party.

Also, I’m so torn on Jess. I hated him when he first came on the show and I didn’t like him as Rory’s boyfriend. When he came back for Liz’s wedding he showed a sweet side to Luke that I liked. I also loved when he put Rory in her place for dropping out of Yale! I like that he’s coming back – as Luke’s nephew. I don’t want him to be with Rory though.

Reply

Jess was my favorite of Rory’s boyfriends, so im glad he’ll be back! I feel like they had the most obvious chemistry/connection in terms of their interest in reading and music. I just hope they go back to his hair being shorter like when they were dating; i feel like when he would appear in later episodes it was longer and slicked and it just wasnt a good look. Cant wait for the revival! Im currently rewatching the series, cant get enough!

Reply

Jess was always my favorite so I’m glad he’s back!

Reply

When I was growing up, my dad would always get my sisters and me a balloon and candy bar for Valentine’s Day. It was really fun, and it taught me growing up that Valentine’s Day is for appreciating all your loved ones, not just romantic relationships.

This year, the boyfriend and I are going to our favorite restaurant for Valentine’s Day. It’s also pretty much the only nice place we go, but we’re a boring pair, so we’re both very excited. :)

Reply

My mom would always get us heart shaped sugar cookies (she was a teacher and the cheerleaders at her school always sold them as their fundraiser). I am going to make some for my kiddos, but confession–I kind of hate sugar cookies and I don’t have a great recipe. If anyone has a foolproof sugar cookie recipe…..

I always thought Jess was kind of a jerk, unless compared to a bigger jerk. That being said, I am happy he is back. My secret wish was that Rory would end up with Marty (the naked guy) eventually. I thought that would be hilarious.

12. Your favorite kind of date—> out to a fancy restaurant or take-out and a movie at home?
I like a nice night out, but I have to say my favorite meal was last year’s V-day when my significant other took the time to make me dinner at home, a replica of my favorite salad from a local restaurant. The thought and time that went into it was the best gift!

14. Unrelated to Valentine’s Day but very important for Gilmore Girls lovers… how do we feel about Jess returning?
I am not a huge Jess fan! I love innocent Rory/Dean combo :-)

Reply

My husband and I pick another day to celebrate Valentine’s, so we can go out to eat but avoid crowds. I like getting flowers and candy! Chocolate covered gummy bears are the best. I like While you were sleeping and Valentines Day for chick flick movies.

I think “I Swear” and “Back at One” are great cheesy love songs………either the pop versions or the country ones, both are great!

And I prefer take out then a movie at home.

Reply

Awww, I just love kids exchanging Valentines at school! This year my kids won’t be doing that, so I miss it already. Great job on her signing them all!
I’m skeptical about those chocolate covered gummies… gummy stuff and chocolate seems like such an odd combination to me! I like my chocolate straight up. haha!

Reply

Omg, Jess will be back!
I always kind of liked him. And while he wasn’t right for her in the beginning, I think as they got older they would have been perfect together. I can’t WAIT until it comes out!!!

For the rare guys perspective.
1. Valentine? Wife and kids of course.
2. Have any V-day traditions? Not particularly. Lucky to breathe these days.
3. Have any interesting Valentines Day stories? When we were first married I was away for Valentines and my new bride couldn’t bare spending the first newlywed V-day apart. So she flew out to join me. It was too late to get reservations anywhere so we snuck Subway sandwiches into the movie to see “Great Expectations” (a strange but kind of cool movie) on Feb 14th. The following night we had our choice of restaurants – which sounds like a great idea in general to celebrate the day after. We went to the wonderful Peppercorn Duck Club in Kansas City. It was great, and one of the priciest meals I’d ever had at the time. It also features an all chocolate dessert bar. We drank/ate too much though and both got sick later. That’s become a trend when we dine too expensively.

4. Favorite chick flick love story? Book or movie? Reality Bites has a special place in my heart – first date with wife. But my favorite cheeseball romantic move is Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Love the soundtrack by John Barry too. God, I’m old. (Another great soundtrack is the Beauty and the Beast TV show featuring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton – features Rilke, see below).

5. Do you have any favorite Valentines Day recipes—> desserts or meals? Help us non-creative peeps out:) I do make a killer chocolate cherry cheesecake.

7. Are you running a race on V-day? Have you ever run a Valentines themed race? Thinking about it. There’s a Cupid Undie race but not sure I can pull that one off.

10. Favorite cheesy/love song? All I Want Is You by U2 is ‘our’ song, also from Reality Bites. For pure cheese, Hands to Heaven by Breathe, Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh – both favorite bands/artists of mine. Again, I’m old.

12. Your favorite kind of date—> out to a fancy restaurant or take-out and a movie at home? Fancy restaurant is always nice. 3 kids = not gonna happen.

13. Favorite quote about love or your definition for what love is? “Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Pretty much anything by Rilke or Kahlil Gibran

And you nailed it. Chocolate covered gummies are my fav!!!
We don't really celebrate VDay, but last year I was 9 months pregnant and we went to dinner and a comedy show. I slept through the whole thing. :)

my grandpa’s birthday was Valentine’s Day, so his middle name was Valentine. i never met him, unfortunately, but he was an Olympic Gold Medal runner from NYC and dubbed “The Boy Wonder,” and he instilled the legacy of running into my dad and then into me by way of my dad, so i’m so thankful he was who he was and i so wish i’d had the chance to meet him. i always think of him on V-Day.

Valentines is so sweet. We have a nice dinner as a family and get our daughters chocolates as well (they are 14 & 18) and always have as it’s best to teach them the expectation of how they should be treated by any future suitors!

Aww, Brooke writing out her valentines is so cute!

My Valentine= My hubby :) The best rom-com is definitely the Proposal–> such a good movie! Tradion-wise, my mom used to set up a love mailbox and we would give each other our valentines in it. Since she died and I haven’t been home, my dad sends me valentines bouquets each year and I mail home my valentine’s cards for the family.

Reply

I love the heart valentine day pancake tradition! So sweet!

I am going to be that picky commenter. I am a preschool special Ed teacher. If Brooke normally holds her crayons or pencils fisted as in the picture and video, correct her now. It becomes a habit that is hard to break. Using small broken crayons forces a tripod (adult grasp). I know she is just 3 but the habit starts forming from the minute they pick up a crayon. Pinterest has tons of fine motor and tripod grasp activities.

Reply

Carrie, thank you so so much for the heads up about this! I will definitely start working with her… thanks for the Pinterest tip too on good activities!

I was proposed to on the 13th! And then we flew out to Oregon on the 14th to see my parents and celebrate. It was the best weekend!

1. Who is your Valentine this year? Les, my husband of almost 25 years!

2. Have any V-day traditions? Hmm… not really. We usually end up doing something adventurous like hiking or mountain biking.

3. Have any interesting Valentines Day stories? The funniest one happened before I met my husband. He sent the exact same card to two girls (it was the only one left at the college gift shop.) Of course the girls knew each other and compared notes! Ha! We have a recording of one of them telling the story at his going away party when he moved from Tennessee to California :)

9. Is anyone’s birthday on Valentine’s day? One of our nieces turns 18 this year on Valentine’s day!

10. Favorite cheesy/love song? Stevie Wonder’s “You are the Sunshine of My Life” because it was played as our wedding recessional.

12. Your favorite kind of date—> out to a fancy restaurant or take-out and a movie at home? Options C – Casual dining where we can people watch and I don’t have to do any cleanup.

13. Favorite quote about love or your definition for what love is? I watched love in action as my Mom went through chemo/radiation. My Dad was with her every step of the way. I remember sitting in their living room, talking with my Dad and my sister, and he would jump up because he heard Mom calling for him. We didn’t hear her, but Dad did. After 40 years of marriage, he was completely in tune with her. It really was in sickness and in health.

hahaha I laughed pretty hard at your husband’s story… and love that you have the recording from one of the girls. Your story about your mom and dad gave me the goosebumps. That is love!

I love the video of Brooke! So cute!

I’ll be in NYC for Valentine’s Day for a girls weekend – I can’t wait! It will be FREEZING, but we’ll have fun in Central Park checking out the ice sculptures.

A little boring, but chocolate covered strawberries are always a win in my book! You could also buy some of those giant marshmallows, put them on a lollipop stick, dip in melted chocolate and cover in sprinkles, of course! I’ve also dipped dried fruit in chocolate (pineapple, apricots, coconut, etc.), and it seems to be a hit! Super simple.

I am so making heart shaped pancakes! What a fun idea! The Notebook will always hold a special place for me when it comes to chick flicks ha, I just love it! Oh and I love your leggings. SO cute!

My oldest son’s birthday is Feb 12 (he’ll be 16!) and so Valentines Day takes a back seat to birthday in our house. Hubby & I might do something small for each other, but in 21 years of marriage I think I’ve only got one real Valentines Day gift – and that was only 2 years ago.

Valentine song: ENDLESS LOVE ..Lionel Ritchie and Dianna Ross <3

I know so many people, (including me), that dedicate this song to your child.

I’ve never had a valentine so I haven’t had any interesting stories but I am excited for this Valentine’s Day because all of my single friends are getting together for a single ladies brunch. I am also planning on going running before brunch because food tastes a million times better after a run

I completely agree with you!! Me and all of my single friends are doing a brunch on Vday too!!!!

The More I see You by Nat King Cole.

I am thankful to be with my valentine this year after having a massive heart attack on Feb. 1.

Steve, I am truly so sorry about your massive heart attack. I hope you are feeling well and keep me updated on how you are doing! Enjoy V-day!!!

My husband is my valentine. and my dogs. He actually proposed to me on Feb. 13, I feel like someone told him it would be lame to do it on V-day, but he also has a hard time keeping things a secret, he gets too excited, so that may have been it. Our last name is Valentin so we just celebrate the 13th as Valentin’s day because we are nerds…but it works.

Our Valentine tradition is that I plan dinner, either make a nice dinner or make reservations, and I take out my husband and two sons. Kinda role reversal.

Valentine this year — my boyfriend of 3 years from high school!

My parents got engaged on Valentine’s Day!

I really like chocolate but probably prefer flowers!

The only Valentine’s Day story I sort of have is last year my boyfriend and I went to a nice restaurant and waited 2 and half hours because they didn’t take reservations, so we watched netflix on his phone until our meal. Then after that we went to see 50 Shades of Grey which was not a good life decision. haha

Ahhh….So you know I am watching Gilmore Girls for the first time. Well, I’ve seen an episode here and there, but now I’m binging on Netflix. Like super binging. And I’m on Season 5. And Lorilai and Luke are finally together. But I’ve seen a future episode on regular TV by accident and I know it doesn’t last. I’m very emotional. Hmm…maybe that’s why I feel unexplainable stressed out. Maybe it’s not my real life that has me bummed…it’s Luke. Oh geez. Is there a group I need to join? Do you have meetings?

My 2 year old was also in gymnastics and it took it out of him too.

OMG that is crazy about your VDay date! Most Valentine’s Days have been uneventful for me. One year my ex boyfriend wanted to surprise me so he lit a bunch of candles in his apartment and set up a picnic in his living room before coming to pick me up. He was freaking out that the apartment was going to catch fire and I was moving slow trying to find matching socks, etc. I didn’t know why he was so anxious! Luckily the apartment did not catch fire.

I’ve been doing planks and push-ups like that for ages so I wouldn’t have to put pressure on my right toes. :-)

I’m running in a 5K on Sunday, and it’s going to be so cold that the wind chill might be in the negatives. Brrrrrrr………..

Love all the pictures and questions!! My valentine is my hubby :) In 7th grade a boy asked me to be his girlfriend on valentines day, I said yes then broke up with him the next day. :)

Two years ago my husband (my boyfriend at the time) bought me a ring (that looked like an engagement ring) for valentines day and I totally thought he was proposing (he wasn’t) and was waiting and waiting for the question. lol!! The question finally came a year later :)

Jess! I hadn’t heard that yet, but I’m so excited for the new episodes!!! I’ve got a soft spot for bad boys, so it’ll be fun to see how that turns out.

My valentine is my husband who has been so kind and understanding of his pregnant, crazy hormonal wife. :) He always sends flowers and chocolate (duh, both!) to my office on Valentines Day. French Kiss is my favorite chick flick love story. We always go to a fancy schmancy restaurant, and the buy the kids a heart shaped pizza for dinner with grandma. I’d like to run on V-day, but my doctor has nixed all running until after this little bug-a-boo comes out. I’ve actually been having dreams about running in races and around the neighborhood lately, so that does that count?

TEAM JESS all the way!
