A NEW THING we are doing over here on HRG but I really need your help to do it and our dog update.

Happy Friday from us to you.

IMG 7184

Last night my nephew had a very important basketball game for us to attend.

IMG 7181

He had a pretty great cheering section.

IMG 7157

Even the one year old knew exactly when to clap.

IMG 7174

Besides the fact that I will never put my socks on the correct feet… I was just thinking last night about how amazing it is that our bodies can heal themselves.  Bending my toes like this 2.5 weeks ago almost put me in tears and now I just feel a little tiny something but that is it.  I’m very proud of my right foot for working some magic.

IMG 7163

I found Curly giving Brooke some dribbling lessons during half-time.

IMG 7180

And when the game was over it was way past dinner and we were starving so the Kneaders drive-thru solved our hanger.

Just a panini cheers.

IMG 7189

We both stare at our sandwiches with the same loving happiness.

IMG 7193

We started our search for GINGER (short for Ginger Bread Jacobs).  Brookie is so excited and so am I.  We have some requirements that we have to meet in order to get a dog so we have to keep those things in mind as we look.  The owner of the complex that I am moving to says that any dogs have to be 30 pounds or less.  The dog has to be really good with kids.  Also, it can’t shed because that causes my mom to get asthma and let’s face it… she is a big part of our lives (aka we see her almost every day and she will also be watching our dog any time that I take Brooke to visit her dad in California).  We will start with local shelters and then branch out.  We will let you know how it is coming!!!

I haven’t had a dog since I was in high school.  My mom gave me Crystal when my sister moved out to go to college and I needed a little buddy to hang out with all day.  Growing up we always had dogs and it has been something I have missed a lot since then.

I have something that I really want to do now on my blog but I need your help please:

******A congrats list.  Each Friday I want to post a congrats list with YOUR names and accomplishments!  You can tell me about a new personal record (time or distance), a speed workout that you nailed, a mental barrier you’ve overcome with your running, getting out of your comfort zone, a race that you completed, a new treadmill pr, a stroller run that went crazy well, a running goal that you rocked… you name it—> I want to share the awesome things that you are doing with your running!!!  Share your accomplishments with me please!

Send the accomplishment (you can include a picture, your name, an explanation, your blog link if you have one… whatever you would like to share) to:

runningaccomplishments@gmail.com

And a picture of a running accomplishment that I am proud of even though I missed my main goal…  I finished:)

I love this idea and you’re so kind so celebrate your readers! That picture of you looks SO much like your niece!

I don’t think I had an email address, but my AOL screen name was wonderwall11… haha any other angsty Oasis fans?

I’m housesitting this weekend so I’m excited to feel like I’m on vacation!

I thought the same thing about her niece resembling her! I thought it WAS a pic of her niece at first!

Me too!

Ginger Bread!!! What a cute name! Good luck in your search, I can’t wait to start seeing Ginger on the blog when you move! :)

I was really obsessed with NSYNC when I was a teenager so my email account was justinsync81@…com (since Justin was born in 1981, haha)!

A cold front is rolling in this weekend (but not TOO cold) so I am looking forward to some crisp runs!

Reply

AH! I love Nsync and Justin (Yes, present tense of love). That is awesome.

Reply

You and me both, sister :)

JT4ever.

I’m looking forward to a massage after work tonight (so excited!) and being able to relax and hang out with my husband after that! I’m guessing the weekend will get busy fast, so I’m going to enjoy the time I can relax!

We had a Dalmatian growing up and have a lab now. Both definitely shed!

Oh my…I don’t even want to think about all the silly names I had for email accounts growing up!

Reply

LOVE the accomplishments idea!! :)

This weekend I am looking forward to eating froyo on NATIONAL FROYO DAY and watching the Super Bowl!!

Reply

I love the idea of a congrats section! Excited to see what everyone shares..and hopefully be included one day! My first screen name that I remember was funrunner68….always obsessed with running.

I’ve always had a dog growing up and when I moved I got my own dog! I’m so excited for you and Brooke and having a dog is going to make your life so much better! Good luck on your search :)

Reply

Hah I had two embarrassing emails, snflwr472 (no vowels allowed?) And marykins03 (my nickname for a month and my hs grad year). Now I’m all about the maryedooley for everything haha.

We had a dog for a short while. We mostly always had cats, I had two horses, and in the family we had hamsters, gerbils, mice, guinea pigs, etc etc. So many animals! We all in the family have dogs now, and my horse is out in Wyoming at my parents ranch.

Reply

I think that’s an awesome idea Janae. I feel like it would be a great “motivation Monday” type of post to see what others accomplished last week!

Reply

I totally recommend a West Highland White Terrier!! They are low shed dogs, very brave, and so loving and sweet. Our adores kids (none of our own yet, but she always is eager to play with little or be pet by them). They’re very trainable and max out around 18-20 lbs, I think. Such sweet dogs. :) There may be a rescue in your area so you don’t need pay crazy cash for a puppy. Good luck!

Reply

My mini schnauzer was the best! She didn’t shed and she weighed about 17 lbs.

Reply

I didn’t have dogs growing up. Duncan is my first dog. He is 7 now. I am 42. He is the best dog in the world and I am so happy I got to raise him from 11 weeks old. He is not from a shelter but he still rescued me :) he is 33 pounds. A Labradoodle.
I am looking forward to going to my friends super bowl party on Sunday. Also excited for my first long-ish run in 3 months. It will probably be 5-6 miles but havoc only run 3-4 miles 2x a week since finishing the nyc marathon last November that will be long. Lol. Your perfect Ginger will find his or her way to you.

Reply

A congrats list is such a cool idea! I had an email address “rockerbaby” followed by a crazy string of numbers after the show So Weird on Disney. Anyone else remember that show?
We always had animals growing up. My poor parents aren’t animal people (they like them but would be perfectly happy without them) but I’ve always been huge animal lover, so we had animals. I got my dachshund for Christmas when I was nine and my basset hound/corgi mix when I was 15.

Reply

Ok the accomplishments list is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. That’s such a wonderful and kind idea. You’re amazing.

I had an account as a teenager but it was super boring, just my name @hotmail, of course.

Two things I’m really looking forward to –> Super Bowl Sunday RACE (5 miler) and going to my friend’s house to eat buffalo chicken dip and play games before the game!

And yep! We always had a dog growing up. The first dogs I remember having were two Newfoundlands that my parents named Kibbles and Bits. I’m still pretty proud of them for coming up with such cute and clever names :)

Reply

Ha. My email account was flirts19@yahoo.com and I can assure you I was not a flirt! The main thing I am excited about this weekend we get to pick out our dog! We are getting a dog too, the litter was born Christmas Eve and they are now 6 weeks old, which means we get to pick out our actually puppy! We are getting and Old English Sheepdog!

Reply

We had a non-shedding maltese that didn’t have regular dog hair so it wasn’t an issue with allergies. We never sent family Christmas cards until Coco showed up and then we sent cards with just her on it after her annual holiday photo shoot.

Reply

Yay! Fun. I love running and reading about other people’s running accomplishments. We had a beagle growing up. Her name was Candy. She had 4 puppies and we named the Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Chocolate, and Frisky. LOL!

Reply

My embarrassing email was bluehorsechick@…com. I am still confused as to why I chose that.

I had a Great Dane as a kid and then teacup yorkies as a teen. Pretty big size difference haha.

Reply

My email address was runnergirl8@yahoo not sure why I chose the number 8. It’s never been my faveorite number or anything.

I had a wiener dog from the time I was two until I was 14. He was the cutest. Little shedding because he was short hair (he was an outside dog anyway though)

Reply

May I recommend a Shih tzu? They do not shed, are typically between 8 and 15 lbs, and EXTREMELY smart and playful. They have huge personalities and are great with kids. The main thing is you have to get them groomed every couple of months, so that’s something to keep in mind for budgets. But I love them! Our family has 3 of them and they all keep us laughing with their hilarious personalities!

Reply

I think the running accomplishments idea is a great one! What a great way to encourage other runners to make great strides and share them with the world. I’m also very excited to see what kind of a dog you get. Good luck!

Reply

What a great idea – this is why I love the running community so much. Really looking forward to reading the list. Thanks for doing this!

Reply

I had a toy poodle growing up! Poodles don’t shed and are certainly under the weight limit if you don’t get a standard.

Reply

So I still use the first email I made as a kid.. thebrat007@…com. It was right around when goldeneye came out in the theaters.

I’ve had dachshunds almost my whole life and love their personalities. My 6 yr old pal Ike actually loves running and hiking and is keeping up with me on my 13 mile long runs!

Looking forward to my 15K this weekend!

Reply

We have 2 bichon frise now. They are great dogs. They do not shed, and they each weigh 12#. They are great with kids. Good luck in your search!
Love the idea of celebrating the accomplishments of you readers!

Reply

Such a great idea, I love it! Your every kind to honor you readers!
We had a yellow lab named Chester growing up and he was such an important part of our family.
You should really look into a Maltese! The breed fits your requirements perfectly! I have a 10 year old Maltese, Milo and I got him when he was 6 months old. He’s the BEST family dog and does so well with kids!

Reply

If you haven’t discovered Petfinder.com, check it out. Local shelters and rescues use it to post available pets. Sort of like a dating website – pictures and profiles in one place. We actually found our rescue cocker in a small Willard Bay rescue and drove from SLC to get him. He’s been a member of the family for almost eight years. I highly recommend cocker spaniels – mine are around 22 pounds, don’t shed, LOVE going for walks and are great with kids. The only snag is that they have to be groomed as their hair grows faster than mine.

Reply

I don’t remember what it was, but I had an email account @gurlmail.com

I’m looking forward to a 5k this weekend, and waffles! And Super Bowl food :)

We had 2-3 dogs at all times when I was growing up. We also had rabbits, cats, hamsters and chickens…

Reply

Love your encouragement of others! I’ve started doing yoga once a week. It’s taught by a yoga-certified teacher who is also a physical therapist. She holds these classes every spring for the local high school track team and opens up the classes to the community for FREE! It is awesome! I just lost my miniature schnauzer who was a wonderful dog. His name was Arthur (long story) and he was 27 pounds and did not shed. Great personality and wonderful with kids. Good luck with your pup search.

Reply

I LOVE your cheer list idea :) :)
You guys are so lucky you are getting a dog! I never had one and always wanted one! As for this weekend well tomorrow will be pretty busy for me. Got an 11 mile run in the morning and then some friends coming over for lunch at about 1pm. I am really looking forward to it but it is indeed cutting close since i ll have to cook that luch as well ;)

Reply

You should definitely look into getting a mini goldendoodle!

Reply

I love this new idea! And I can’t wait to have something to submit!

We got a dog when I was 15, so not really while I was “growing up”, but he was a little bischon-poo. Such a sweet little fluff ball.

I’m really looking forward to my long run. I’m gonna do 10.5 miles, a distance I haven’t done since my last half in October. & I’m gonna cheat, because I’m going to see a band I love in concert Monday night & it’s gonna be fantastic!

Reply

We have a mini schnauzer. He doesn’t shed and is great with everyone! He is only about 13 lbs. So exciting!!!

My email was jencadet@yahoo, according to my dad I really liked Cub Cadet tractors!

Reply

Yay that your toe is feeling better!! I’m coming back from a shin/bone injury, not quite a fracture (thank goodness!) I’m going out of town for a race this weekend, but I have yet to decide if it would be smart to run it… But, I am looking forward to spending the weekend with my peeps and our good friends.

We always had animals growing up. I think it’s such a good learning experience for kiddos to be responsible for someone other than themselves as well as to give them the chance to experience the cycle of life. Have fun choosing a pup!

Reply

Oh my gosh I love your accomplishments idea! How awesome! My first e-mail was sunidaze348 (like sunny days but obviously I had to be cooler than spelling it normally). Looking forward to a first date this weekend ahhh and never had a dog- we always had pet bunnies. Ginger is a perfect name for a dog :)

Reply

Hmm small and non shedding. Maybe a bichon or maltese? I hope you can find a shelter dog but unfortunately the small non shedding ones are not so plentiful. We got a American/pitt/boxer mix from a shelter years ago who is absolutely amazing with my son. He is rambunctious and loves to sit on her and she loves it. She sheds Like no other though!!

Reply

I think my email was sweetcat1313@aol.com HAHA why you ask?? I have no clue!

I am excited for the superbowl because that means lots of good food. We’re making tacos in my house = my absolute fave!

Happy Friday!

Reply

I have a Lhasa Apso named Charlie and he is WONDERFUL! He does not shed at all and he weighs 16 pounds. Lhasas are very protective and my boy (I know you want a girl) loves to just sit next to me or go for walks. If you find a rescue Lhasa – go for it! Good luck in your search for Ginger (my mother-in-laws name! Ha).

Reply

My email was “heybaby” something… pretty ridiculous!!!

Reply

you should look into rescuing a miniature or petite golden doodle, they are small, hypoallergenic, don’t shed, great with kids, smart and look like little teddie bears…plus they are a ginger color! winning combo!

Reply

Yes, yes, yes on Goldendoodles! We have a 16 month old (she weighs 20 lbs) and a 14 week old (he will weigh between 30-40 lbs.). They are so sweet and cuddly, great with kids, non-shedding, BUT are pricey! If you could rescue one or have a connection to a good breeder. I love our breeder, but our puppies were investments! I have lots of pictures, if you want to show Brooke.

Love the idea of cheering on others. Everyone needs motivation and support!

So glad your toe is doing better. Is a birthday run in your future?!

There was always a dog in my house growing up, and the only time I lived with out one was when I was away for college. I got the first dog of “my own” the minute I finished graduate school, and she was with me for the last 10 years. This is the first time I can remember living without a dog, and honestly, it is very very quiet! We will get another dog, but will have to wait a few years: we’d like to buy a home with a yard AND i’d like to finish my doctorate program that will keep me out of the house a few nights a week first. I’m already wishing time would move FASTER until then!!!

Reply

Can’t wait to see what kind of dog you get and where you move to! I didn’t have a dog growing up but always secretly wanted one of those small ones.

Reply

Ahh that’s such a good idea! That will be such a fun place to read about people’s accomplishments and hard work. We had a golden retriever named Jasmine growing up and my parents just got a new golden puppy!

My email address and screenname always had something like “soccer chick” in the username. Oh the good ol days of AOL.

Reply

Nope, not a dog person. And I was probably behind with email (or just old) and didn’t have one until college, and then it was just my name I think. Probably a good thing :)

Reply

Ginger Bread – I love it!! We had a Maltese growing up, she lived to be 17!!!

Reply

I always had pets growing up, but my husband didn’t so he doesn’t understand. I’m in the process now of hounding him to get a dog.

I’m so excited for you and Brooke to get a pooch, and I LOVE that you’re adopting!

Reply

I love that you’re looking for your future furbaby in the shelters first! Adopting a rescue animal is the best! :)

Reply

My first email was AberBabe… Abercrombie forever!

Reply

I am looking forward to a body pump class, relaxing and hanging with my pups and husband this weekend! We had a couple dogs growing up and my husband and I have had dogs together for almost our entire relationship… they are our children!! So excited for you and Brooke and your new addition!!

Reply

There wasn’t email when I was in HS. ;-) Beepers were mostly for drug dealers or girls who had boyfriends that wanted to keep tabs on them. Technology has come a long way.

I’m going out with one my friends whom I haven’t seen since her wedding in September. I can’t wait to see her. And we’re meeting in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan so I’m looking forward to walking around there and hitting the farmers market.

I did have dogs and cats growing up. There were also fish, a bird and a mouse (all my brother’s. I prefer a pet that will cuddle with me).

Reply

A cockapoo (cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle) perfectly meets your criteria. We got one for our son who had to get good behavior marks on his report card first. He came up with the name Lucky cuz he thought he be lucky if he ever got the clean report card. Lucky is 26 pounds, does not shed, and is a complete lover. I also had one as a kid and the same applied to Duffy.

Reply

I’m so glad you are adopting!! You’re going to give one lucky dog an amazing home.

My email account growing up, that hanse transferred to being a spam account was juliathegymnast@…com I was a gymnast for 8 years so it was fitting :)

Reply

fantastic idea posting accomplishments, what a positive and fun idea! i didnt get a dog until we moved out to the country, my mom and dad both didnt like dogs but we wanted one so bad that was our “reward” for moving away from our friends and being a good sport about it. cant imagine life without a furry friend!

Reply

So as far as dogs go we currently have three.. two golden retrievers (one is 6, one is 6 months) and a 10 year old Corgi…..they shed!!! However Cotton’s are small and non allergenic and they love people! On to the weekend….my two younger boys are in a two day swim meet in Logan, it is a USA qualifier so they are amped. The second thing is a long run though it will be at 430am on a treadmill. I think the achievement shout out is a great idea…..have a great weekend!!!! Congrats on the ‘toe’ progress.

Reply

I am so glad you are getting your dog from an animal shelter so many animals get put to death. You can find any breed you want. Mixed breeds are the best.

Reply

You’ve probably already done your research but it’s important to realise that just because a dog doesn’t shed doesn’t mean your Mum won’t have allergic reactions or have asthma attacks around the dog. It’s the doggy dander and saliva that actually cause these reactions and all dogs have that. I know your mum had to give away her last dog, is there a back up in case she can’t look after it while you are away? I have an allergy to dogs but still have two. I mange it with medications (options for your mum?) and my allergist recommended running a damp cloth over the dogs everyday. Works wonders! Good luck!!

I highly recommend Petfinder.com. As a veterinarian I’ve heard all sorts of misconceptions about rescue dogs. Many people think that they are only the “problem dogs” that are being given up for a specific reason. While this may be true of some, the reality is that too many pets are not spayed or neutered and the result is many unwanted pets. Rescue organizations are typically open and honest about issues a specific pet might have because they don’t want an adopted animal to be dumped or to wind up back in a shelter because of undisclosed problems.
When you go on Petfinder.com enter your zip code and any specifics about the dog you are looking for-age, breed, sex, size…you will see a list of adoptable dogs with pictures, location and description. This is a lot easier than driving around looking at different shelters. Also, many rescue animals are in foster homes so you will not see them if you visit shelters. If you’re looking for a small to medium, non-shedding dog I suggest you start by selecting Poodle as the breed. You will see Poodle mixes as well as purebreds. There is a good chance that a poodle mix is non-shedding. Many of these dogs are similar to the “designer poodle mixes” that you can also find from breeders. I have a Poodle/Chihuahua and a Poodle/Maltese that I found through Petfinder. It’s really fun to look too.

Aww you’re little nephew is adorable and I hope your other nephew won his basketball game! It’s so good to hear that your toe is doing much better.
I also love that you are going to start posting accomplishments, usually I just have to read through the comments ;) I love reading what other runners are doing!
My email was karebear1234, soooo cool right?!
I am looking forward to babysitting my nephew and doing some shopping with my mom.
We have had dogs my whole life. Our oldest dog just passed away though and he has been missed so much since.

Tons of dog rescue groups have foster homes caring for, learning about, and training their dogs while they wait for an adopter. In fact, I have fostered five dogs here in Chicago for a rescue group. You can really know what to expect from the dog you are adopting! So often dogs in shelter cages are very different (in good and bad ways) once they get settled into a home environment.

Oh man my first email address was at JUNO. It was something like mollielovechat…or equally as bad!
We’re going to the suoerbowl this weekend!!!!!!!!! That and running in California is what I’m looking forward to. :)

Hi Janae,
I never comment but I can’t let the dog topic pass without chiming in. I’m a dog FANATIC. I have always had a dog, currently have the best dog ever to have lived, volunteer at a dog shelter, and dog sit all the time.
I don’t have kids so I’m not sure how well this idea would work with your munchkin but I highly recommend to anyone in the market for a dog to start volunteering at a shelter as a dog walker. Most rescues or shelters will let you simply walk a dog for 30 min to and hour if you go through a quick training. It’s a great way to get exposure to all the dogs they have come through and get a real feel for their personalities. Also, you can make friends with the people who work at the shelter so they can let you know when your doggie soulmate comes in. I can imagine it as a great learning experience for Brooke about volunteering and about our obligation to take care of creatures that we have domesticated. But maybe it would be too hard for her to understand that you’re not always taking them home….
Anyway, that’s my tip. Every time I walk those dogs it does WAY more for me than it does for them. But as a runner I always feel like I have given them the gift of their daily exercise too and I know how valuable that is!
If you want to check out my baby, she of course has her own instagram. Her name is Piper but I call her Noodle.
https://www.instagram.com/justkeepnoodling/

Good luck in your search, any dog will be lucky to have such an active and loving home!

I had dogs growing up – always wiener dogs. And as soon as I knew I was ready, I got one myself! That was almost 7 years ago – I love her sooooooooooo much!!! Sometimes I think people read my blog just for pictures of her! lol

We got a mini golden doodle last year. He is about 27 pounds and doesn’t shed AT ALL! My husband is allergic and also has asthma so we needed a dog that was hypoallergenic. He is so good natured and loves the kids. He just always wants to please and loves to cuddle. Plus he is the best running partner! If you’re interested I can get you the breeders info. I think they are planning to have another litter in July.

Reply

I have a shihtzu and he is hypo allergenic and such a snuggly guy! and he only weighs 10lbs!! My parents shihtzu weighs about 15lbs as well! Such great dogs! Good luck on your search.

I love that name for a dog!

This weekend I am looking forward to not having to work! I did a lot of extra call shift the last three weeks and worked Sunday of this week so I am ready for a full two day weekend. I have a baby shower and a few dinners out with the hubs planned. :) That is one nice thing about sharing your kids with your ex-spouses, you actually get some great one on one time with your hubby!

We are doing IVF and I couldn’t run the past few days but I am looking forward to running this weekend in the clear and cold weather. I never thought, being from Texas, that I would love winter running so much.

Reply

Yorkies are my heart. We just lost one of ours. But they are amazing dogs. And because they actually have hair, not fur, they don’t shed and are great for people with allergies.

Reply

I love the idea of the congrats list!!
I think my email at one stage was poison@… and haha@… Not embarrassing at all, thanks for making me remember those :D

Reply

Oh, you just made me feel really old! We didn’t have email (or cell phones) when I was a teenager! We did have 8 tracks, then transitioned to cassette tapes ;)

We did, however, have lots of dogs! We had pets of all kinds, but we were never without a dog or two or three…

Reply

a bichon!! we just got one and had all of the same requirements as you do (we have a 5 yr old little boy, I have allergies, and our house isn’t huge so something small) and he’s the BEST. he’s pretty laid back for a puppy, really good with a rambunctious little guy and super sweet. and I mean, adorable too of course :)

Reply

I’m so weird, if my socks have to go on specific feet, I cannot put them on the wrong feet. I’m afraid there’s some kind of science behind the little “L” and “R” on my sock and I will royally screw up my feet by putting them on the wrong feet! I mean what’s the point if they’re the exact same?!?

Reply

We (my two little guys & I) have a Vizsla… that is a wonderful breed for kids! They’re super snuggly & listen well! Perfect for long runs too… You can find a female around 30lbs! http://www.goldenmeadowsretrievers.com/vizsla-puppy-breeder-tips-pet-parents-preparing-your-new-four-legged-fur-baby/

I am looking forward to my 14 mile run with the Huntsman Hometown Heroes and a huge Dirty Dr. Pepper from Swig afterwards! Of course I will need a cookie too after going all that distance! ;)

I didn’t have any dogs growing up, we had cats. But, now I have a 6 month old miniature schnauzer. He is the cutest, most snuggly pup ever! Even better he does not shed and won’t get over 20lbs. Great with people, especially kids. He is very active and loves to socialize! So happy to have my Bismarck!

Janae,

I have a Havanese, which is a newish breed from Cuba (like Havana), sort of like a Bichon. She’s only 8 pounds, doesn’t shed, is FABULOUS with kids and prefers people over other dogs. She’s sociable, never grouchy (she’s 9 now, and has been a great dog the whole time). There are Havanese specific rescues across the country, but if you’re looking for a great little dog that’s a little sturdier than say, a Papillion, I highly recommend a Havanese. They do come in a reddish brown ;-) to fit Ginger, though my little girl is black and white.

Love the idea of showing readers accomplishments! It’ll be good motivation. :)

I’m doing my last 20 miler for my marathon this weekend, then I begin tapering which is crazy to think about! I’m also excited about good weather and going rock climbing on Sunday.

We have a lab/rottweiler, and she sheds but not as much as some dogs do!

Reply

I’m a teenager right now haha, and my email features my dead bunny’s first name (Butterscotch) and my last name.

I’m looking forward to going to a high school musical of Legally Blonde tomorrow, and I’m looking forward to my rest day on Sunday! I am dreading my 10 miler tomorrow, but knowing I get a full day of earned rest afterwards usually pushes me to get out the door.

My family always has dogs! My first was a lab/spaniel mix (who lived twelve lovely years and was the same age as me at the time), an SPCA beagle/hound mix whom we had for a few years at the same time as the other one before we lost her to cancer, then a Bernese Mountain Dog (most adorable breed ever!) who is currently not doing well health wise :( and a beagle with anxiety problems. We’re looking at getting another puppy soon, and I’ve got my eye out for a Labrador! They seem to be the best all around breed, for family, exercise, temperament, and general health.

Reply

My email address as a teenager was goober83dj@…..com because my sister called me Goober more than any of my other 57 nicknames, hahaha!

I am looking forward to watching a friend’s dog actually, just for a few hours because they are taking their other dog on an outing and don’t want to hurt this one’s feelings. Yeah, I totally judge them for thinking a dog can be quite that emotionally fragile, but we like the dog so we’ll still take her. I’m also really looking forward to the warmer weather that is supposed to pop up on Sunday and I think I’m going to hit my first long run in quite some time since I skipped my run yesterday morning to stay warm in bed and cuddle.

I had a dog for one year when my Army brother first moved overseas and I actually hated that little thing, it was yappie and irritable and ran away a lot and I’ve always been scared of big dogs so I’ve always just said I hated all dogs. We got a shelter dog two years ago though and she’s the sweetest thing ever and I never want to give her up (though I still don’t worry too much about hurting her feelings, haha!). No offense to anyone with a really sensitive dog, I’m sure that is a thing I just haven’t really met anyone that worries that much about offending their dog that doesn’t also put them in bikinis in the summertime and other such craziness! ;)

I think this is an awesome idea! I can’t wait to read them! :) I am looking forward to my workout tomorrow morning, going to a meet and greet, and throwing my daughter an awesome 2nd birthday party!!! :) Growing up we had a few dogs and I loved them all! I can’t wait to see what you guys get!

My family had a dog when I was a baby but I think he died not too long after I was born. So I’ve had cats pretty much my entire life and I prefer them to dogs… Sorry haha! People think I’m crazy when they find out that I’m not a dog person.

It’s so great that you’re considering a shelter dog! Although puppies are so cute, and what kid doesn’t want a puppy, I recommend adopting an adult dog! This way, you know his or her full-grown size. Plus, vets advise against running with growing puppies and suggest you shouldn’t take a dog on a run until it’s at least a year old, in case that’s something you’d like to do. (I didn’t know that before adopting my girl!) Either way, good luck, and can’t wait to hear about your new family member soon!

Aw your congrats list sounds so sweet – can’t wait! My email when I was younger was rebel_chick7@hotmail or something very similar to that. And let me tell you, I was so not a rebel. Well at least not until later when I had a very class firstname.lastname@gmail.com email address.

We had all kinds of dogs growing up….pekingese, collie, giant mutts, etc. I have a shih tzu now. They are wonderful dogs and good for people with allergies. I’m allergic to dogs but she doesn’t cause me any problems.

Not much to look forward to this weekend. It’s tax season so I’ll be working tomorrow and I’ve been sick for over a month. I’ll be excited when I stop coughing upy guts.

That’s so nice to share your space here with us! I haven’t been able to run for a couple of weeks due to severe toe pain, so it’s feeling better, and I’m going to give it a try tomorrow….crossing my fingers and saying a prayer!

Check out Teddybear Goldendoodles. They are the best dogs!

Looking forward to a 10k trail race this weekend on some beautiful farmland in the hills of Tennesee.

I had a miniature schnauzer for years and she was great! Didn’t shed a bit and not very big.

Mini schnauzers don’t shed just saaaaayin ;) Maybe I’m just a tad obsessed with my 11 week old Walter, but he’s a pretty great pup. LOTS of work though training this lil guy hah!

I love my dogs growing up and my dog now! I can’t be without him.

If you are into small dogs, I have a yorkie/shih tzu mix. She’s 10lb and doesn’t shed. I also used to have a shih tzu and he was great as well. Good luck with your search!

Hi,
I’ve never commented here before, but I just wanted to say that Shih Tzus are AMAZING dogs! They are perfect for families, love everyone, are neither snappy nor yappy, but are always happy! I currently have one who is ten years old (about 12 pounds), and she doesn’t shed at all, she only gives kisses!

The labradoodle is supposed to be super sweet, smallish, doesn’t shed and such a cute dog!!! Good luck with your search!
What a wonderful idea to add accomplishments of runners to your blog!!

Love the blog idea! Can’t wait to hear what this amazing online community is proud to share :)

I know I had some embarrassingly long email addresses as a kid/teen. Can’t remember a one of them now, though.

I’m up (4:30 EST) to run an impromptu half with my friends Terrie and Alex. I’m treating it as a long run, but I’m so excited!

Just got my first dog at 30; he’s a golden retriever, and literally the best. Love their temperament. Definitely look into the dog’s activity level and see if they’re good for running. Our guy never stops moving! Good luck!

We have a Shih Tzu named Jake. They are really sweet dogs and they have hair not fur so they don’t shed. My whole family is allergic to dogs/cats so Jake is perfect for us because he has hair. They are also small dogs, he’s probably about 17 lbs. They are very calm and just want to be loved. They don’t bark too much either. :) Def a breed to consider!! Good luck!!

Love, love, love this new idea! I can’t wait to see all the great things this community accomplishes. Hugs! xo

I am so excited to hear you are adopting! All four of our pets (1 dog, 3 cats) are adopted and they really are the best. Our dog was our most recent adoption. We had visited the shelter multiple times before we found the perfect fit for us. It’s really hard to go to the shelter and not leave with an animal. I want to save them all, but I was sure the dog for us would be obvious once we met her and it was. You can read about it here: http://whinelessbreathemore.com/2013/09/07/introducing-stella-the-boxer/

Hahahaha! Ohmigosh! I’m pretty sure I rocked “funinthesun29@…” for quite some time.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea of sharing everyone’s accomplishments. That’s so awesome! Can’t wait to read them all.

We had one dog growing up. Hayman- my big brother. We got him in 2002. A German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix, but he looked like a Black Lab. He was the best dog! Putting him down last February was the hardest thing we had to do. But, he lived a great life and was the happiest boy!

Hey girl!

I haven’t, and probably won’t, read through all of the comments here but I just want to recommend a Havanese! They’re cute, small (not too small), and they’re hypoallergenic ie – they don’t shed! I’m allergic to dogs (I can get used to them) but my stepmom has a Havenese and I never get itchy eyes or skin around him. I love him!! They also do this cute little dance that “they” call a “Havanese dance.”

Ahh, we had a Ginger dog growing up.

Email didn’t come out until I was almost through college, but it’s probably embarrassing that I still use the same original address @hotmail. I know, the 90’s called and thank me for keeping their domain going…

Thank you for getting a rescue dog! Best decision :)

Get a Schnoodle! It’s a cross between a poodle and a schnauzer, they are such great dogs! Mine is 9 years old and he is the most loving doggy you will ever meet ?

I’ve fostered for a rescue in Utah called Rescue Rovers. I would encourage you to check out our dogs and to work with the fosters to help find what you want. If you give them a laundry list of things, they’ll post it in the foster forum and people will create a list of the dogs that fit your needs. Since the dogs are all fostered, we know really well their personalities and how much they shed or don’t. Both of my girls are from them (I scooped them right off of the transport) and we’ve fostered and found homes for 20 other dogs. Good luck!

You should consider a miniature schnauzer! They are great family pets, usually around 20 pounds, and don’t shed! They are also a very clean breed and should be easy to house train! Don’t clip their ears though, way cuter when they’re floppy :)

We have a miniature schnauzer that would meet your requirements. Just sayin’… ;) They are AWESOME dogs! I had one growing up, too, which is why I got the same kind for my daughter. We love her SO MUCH!!!
