6 Friday Favorites and YOUR Running Accomplishments

HAPPY WEEKEND!!! I’m excited for a mini girls’ trip to celebrate my 30th, a Saturday run (it feels like it has been forever since that has happened) and some good ol’ fashioned family time.   Let’s start out today with a few favorites:

1.  This workout top from GapFit.  The softness levels are out of control, I want every color and I love the open back.

2.  Documentaries.  I love them.  I watch them in the middle of the night if I can’t sleep and I really love documentaries about athletes.  It is so inspiring for me to watch them overcome their setbacks!

Screen Shot 2016 02 11 at 8 43 44 PM

3.  Indoor play places. While it is slightly warmer outside these days… we still hit up indoor play zones as much as possible.  We went to two separate ones yesterday and Brooke was pretty stoked about it.

4.  26 Pictures People Who Don’t Work Out Will Never Understand.  I don’t want to know how much time I have spent in my life untangling my headphones.

5.  My niece’s and nephew’s sports games… it brings us all together to cheer them on which I love.  My brother and his family were even in town for the game yesterday.

6. All of the best birthday treats.  I’ve got some really amazing people in my life.

I have the first week of RUNNING ACCOMPLISHMENTS to share with you today.  I can’t wait for you to read about these incredible/amazing/hardworking/inspiring peeps!

If you want to be featured next week with your running accomplishment please email me at [email protected]

———————————-

ARIEL!!!!  “I ran an indoor PR in the mile this past weekend of 4:49.  This is a picture of me on the last lap… a little rough but I got through it!

———————————-

SUSAN!!!! “My running accomplishment was achieved last Saturday.  I ran my first 50k and I loved it! I can’t wait to run another!”

———————————-

ANNE L!!!  “I’m a new(ish) runner.  I started running about a year and a half ago after losing a little over 100 lbs.  I finished the Twin Cities Marathon this past October in just over 4:17.   My most recent accomplishment was a 5 mile race on New Year’s Day that I did in 40:22 (an 8:06 average).  Last year I did the same race at 43:08, so I was pretty thrilled with that PR.  I also love working out at the gym and for the first time ever was able to do an unassisted pull-up!  Attached is a picture of me with my Uncle, who I ran the New Year’s Day race with.  He’s 66 and still killing it!”

———————————-

KATE B!!! “Yesterday, I had a treadmill date with my friend and fellow run coach who is also training for Boston, and I decided to do some 800s.  Even though I ran a pretty solid marathon at St. George back in October, I still find myself scared of trying faster paces.  I did 7 x 800m repeats with a handful at 6:15 pace and I was so stoked because I never feel brave enough to try anything faster than a 6:25.  This is a small accomplishment but a reminder that if we push ourselves, we just mighty be surprised what we can do.  #celebrateallthethings.”

———————————-

SHANNON!!!  “A few weeks ago my hubby and I ran our first marathon.  Though our finish time was no where near what we had hoped, we had an amazing time!”

———————————-

LANI (nominated by her sweet friend)—>  “I want to nominate my friend Lani for your Friday Accomplishments, because she somehow manages to make time for running and exercise, regardless of her long work hours, busy travel schedule or freezing Chicago weather.  I admire that she doesn’t make excuses and works hard to reach her goals.  She ran the Chicago Marathon in October AND just finished a half-marathon a few weeks ago!”

———————————-

PEGGI!!!   “Cypress Half-Marathon- November 2015.  Armco Houston Half-Marathon- January 2016.  I hadn’t run a half or any long distance since I did my first full marathon back in January 2014.  I was excited that my body still could do a half like it was no big deal.  Also, I just recently started doing Crossfit and am loving it! I am hoping this will help me in my running, which I have a number of people tell me it will, yippee!!”

Cypress Half Pic 1 REVISED

———————————-

Stephanie!!! Ran her first 10k over the weekend!  “Goal time I told my running friends was 57 minutes, goal time I told myself was 55 minutes.  I finished in 54:27 and actually felt like I could have pushed myself more.  I ended up 2nd in my age group.”

IMG 2762

———————————-

ELLEN!!!  “I rocked my 10 mile run last week with an average pace of 9:05/mile! I was so excited I literally shouted ‘Yay Babe’ in the middle of the street by a bus stop…LOL.  People just looked at me like…’she is crazy…’  Here is a photo of the aftermath (also the weather was crazy awesome for UK standards, all sunshine:)”

Screen Shot 2016 02 07 at 12 02 34 AM

 ———————————-

Mary!!! “While this may not earn me a medal or a PR, I’m super happy that I had my first run back after fertility treatment…as a pregnant runner! Even though my doctor gave me clearance to run early last week, I was terrified to be active.  It’s taken us two years just to get to this point and I was afraid that I could do something to ruin it.  I knew that this was just mental and that I had no warning signs to indicate that I shouldn’t be running.  I took it slow with a glacially paced run-walk on Sunday (6:00 run/5:00 walk—total 3 miles) and me and my husband went outside on Sunday for our first run as a proto-family (2 miles run walk).  I’ve always dreamed of being that woman with a little belly at a race, and now my dream is coming true!”

———————————-

Julie!!!!  “This past Sunday I completed my first half marathon in Tallahassee, Florida! It was the hilliest course I have ever encountered and made for a very tough 13.1 miles.  My grandmother passed away last month after a 7 year battle with COPD, so my mom sewed me a heart out of my grandmother’s favorite pajamas to wear on my big (see picture).  Every time I wanted to stop, I’d just put my hand on that heart and keep running.”

IMG 4280

———————————-

AIMIE!!!  “Here is a selfie of me and my 14 week old snoozing in her car seat.  The picture was taken this morning about two minutes after my treadmill run so I am on a major HIGH in it!!! Reasons why I am feeling accomplished and happy with my run today… 1) I nailed an interval workout that took me out of my comfort zone and made me work hard! I’m training for a half and I’m feeling stronger every run.  2) I am realizing that my body at 3.5 months postpartum is getting stronger and rather than dwelling on the negative stuff about my body, I need to focus on the good stuff going on with it! This run made my body feel strong.  3) During my run, I realized that I am extremely thankful for my awesome daycare because it allowed me to drop off my barely 2 year old to play for a bit so that I could get a run in (and hopefully a shower) which is not always easy with two little ones.  Running keeps me sane and helps me to be a better mother and wife! I’m ready to tackle a busy weekend now!

IMG 5507

 ———————————-

Amy!!! completed her first 100 miler!  “By far the hardest thing I have ever done.  And I can’t wait to do it again next year.”

 ———————————-

Jill!!!  “Today I ran for 2 hours and 15 minutes, and it was the longest I have run since my last half marathon in October.  During that half, I started having shooting pains in my left knee at mile 10 and had to walk/run the last 3 miles.  Since I have been struggling with running and trying to remain injury free while I am currently training for my second full marathon- Big Sur in California in April.  Running 2+ hours today with no pain was so exciting! I am really hoping I can make it to the start line in April.”

Jill Merkel RunEatSnap

 ———————————-

Whitney!!!  “I ran my 5th half marathon yesterday (2/7/16) and earned a new PR of 1:52:11.  I’m thinking a sub 1:50 may be possible now!!”

I’ll be 34 :) I had a nice party for my 30th and probably won’t have another until 40. Laughing about the tangled headphones – I make sure I untangle mine the night before a long run!

Reply

So inspiring to start my day with all those accomplishments! Great job ladies :)

I also LOVE documentaries. For some reason even though I’ve never danced I love watching ones about ballet. I also really like Somm, which is about a group of guys trying to pass the master sommelier test. Even though you don’t drink wine I think you would find it interesting!

This weekend I have my first race of the year! The high for the day is only 9 degrees so it’s going to be a chilly one!

Reply

I watch alot of food documentaries. I just find them very interesting (and sometimes pretty gross).

I’m 31. My husband had a surprise party with all of my favorite people for my 30th. It was great, I loved it!

Looking forward to the Olympic Marathon Trials!!

Reply

All of those stories were so great – now I wish I was going out for a run instead of leaving for work!

I am turning 30 this year too! I was just thinking yesterday that I am way too young to be turning 30 though. I mean, when did this happen?! ?

Reply

I agree! I am also turning 30 this year. Where did the time go?

Reply

I’m looking forward to froyo and naps this weekend. Those are pretty standard in my world these days.

I’ll be 32 in October. My 30th was pretty low-key: dinner with my closest friends at a fun restaurant. My sis had planned to throw me a surprise party, but I was in a wedding that weekend, so it didn’t work out.

Reply

I’ll be turning 43 this year. Crazy.
I’m looking forward to lots or R&R this weekend. I’ve been sick for 10 days with an upper respiratory infection and it’s time to finally kick it.
Have a super birthday weekend! Happy 30!

Reply

Wow, what awesome accomplishments! Well done, ladies!!

Reply

I’ll turn 36…and as long as I get asked for my ID cards I’ll be fine ;-) I’m travelling to my home town this weekend to attend the wedding of a very good friend. Her first wedding ended badly -let’s just say there was cheating involved – so I am so happy she found someone who loves her very much and make her happy!
Perfect for valentine’s weekend!

I love documentaries! I will be 31 in two weeks………I just had a fun 3oth bday party in Nashville with my husbands family……..what we are doing this year, too! It’s a lot of fun bc we take a few days off work and go explore Nashville then watch movies with the family each night……….this year we have Goosebumps and Spectre (James Bond) lined up for movie nights!

Reply

These women are SO inspiring! Isn’t it awesome that all different levels of speed, distance, and abilities can be so inspirational? I love how that’s a big trend right now in the running community is that you don’t have to be fast to be a great runner. These stories are all equal although I’ve got to say kudos to Ariel for the 4:49 mile! My PR is 5:49 so I’m just amazed by her!

I’m currently 24 although I’m already forgetting and told someone I was 23 the other day… I have Peter Pan syndrome I NEVER want to grow up!

Reply

What an inspiring group of runners! It’s amazing what one can accomplish with the right mindset. I love watching documentaries, especially ones on science or history. I’ll be 27 at my next birthday, although every once and a while I think I’m 28 because that’s my husband’s age.

Reply

I love documentaries! I just watched Meru and it was incredible! HIGHLY recommend.

Looking forward to watching the Olympic Trials this weekend! My friend also has a themed Valentine’s Day party every year and this year the theme is villains. I’m going as Voldemort and I’m pretty excited. Should be a hilariously fun time :)

Turning 29 this year, 5 days before the Boston Marathon!!

Reply

Great job to all the ladies’ stories on this blog! You are all an inspiration and champions!!! :)

I love reading these accomplishments! Awesome job everyone!! Happiest of birthdays Janae!

Reply

THANK YOU LYNN!! Have a fabulous weekend!

Reply

I love seeing all these accomplishments! So cool and congrats to all the runners!
I think I’ll be watching A Ballerina’s Tale this Sunday. I was a dancer for a long time and it’s so cool that Misty Copeland has broken into the mainstream. Dancers aren’t household names-except for her. I really like Desert Runners too for documentaries.
I’ll be 25 on my next birthday :)

Reply

Just turned 34 two weeks ago, and celebrated with all-you-can-eat Sushi! For my 30th, a good friend and I have back-to-back birthdays, so we hosted a “Roaring 20’s” themed 30th birthday party – out with the 20’s, in with our 30’s, in style!

Reply

Um I’ll be 39. Does that mean I’m too old to read this blog? haha just kidding! But it does make me feel old when I read some of your stuff.

Reply

I’m older than you and I read it too. :)

Reply

so funny- I ran track at the same highschool as Ariel, and ran with her sister! They’re a very talented family :)

Reply

Small world:) That is awesome Hayley!

Reply

I like to see what readers have accomplished. That’s awesome.

I actually have a lot of friends turning 30 this year.

Random but I’m not sure if it’s just me, your website is hard to read today. I’m on mobile but it’s not loading as well as normal!

Reply

Hey girl! You need to send in your accomplishment:) Thanks for letting me know about my site… I am revamping it and so it might have some issues over the next little while! Hopefully not too many though:(

Reply

I’m going to be 33 this year. For my 30th my hubby suprised me at my favorite sushi spot with all my friends and family. I like documentaries about true crimes- I’m hooked on Making a Murderer on Netflix.

Reply

I was obsessed with that show… let me know what you think after you finish! Also, let me know if you know of any other good ones like Making a Murderer!

Reply

I love reading all these accomplishments. They’re all really inspiring! I love any and all documentaries. I watched one recently on pandas :) haha I don’t know why I’m so in to them.

Reply

28 on my next birthday.
My biggest accomplishment running wise this week was that I ran 2.5 miles for the first time since being pregnant (I’m 23 weeks) working to get back to at least 3 but we will see what my body says. I feel like 2 is so tiny but I’m really working on the listening to your body thing so I don’t get injured.

Reply

I am so glad you are doing this! All these accomplishments are so great! It’s incredible to see what all has been achieved through determination and dedication to goals! Very inspiring.
If you liked Making a Murderer, you might also like Into the Abyss, Brother’s Keeper, The Central Park Five, and Kids for Cash. I’m not a fan or anything ;) Oh I also want to watch Brooklyn Castle. You might like that if you have ever played chess.
I’m hanging out with one of my good friends all day on Saturday, so I’m really looking forward to some girl time.
I’ll be 23 on my next birthday in August!!

Reply

For my 30th my friends threw me my own race! Khawk 5k on Chicago’s lakefront. It was amazing. I pushed a double wide with my goddaughters….that is tough! You will love the 30 club! Enjoy all of your celebrations!!!

Reply

YOUR OWN RACE…. okay, that is the cutest thing ever. I love that idea!! Thanks Kristie and I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Reply

WOW! I love all these accomplishments!!! Congratulations everyone!!!
I’ll be turning 44 on my next birthday! And, after becoming a runner about 5 years ago, I’ve never been healthier or happier! Each year keeps getting better :)
Have a very Happy Birthday Janae! Enjoy your girls trip!

This weekend…looking forward to getting a long run in on Sunday.

I’ll be turning 25 in August so need to come up with a good birthday plan before then. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANAE!! :)

Happy Birthday Janae!! Have an awesome Birthday weekend! I love Gap breathe tanks and the top you posted is so cute! I love how soft, thin, and stretchy they are. They have such a great fit and come in such great colors. Plus, there is always a good sale and they are reasonably priced so we can buy a few more. I love reading the running accomplishments. They are all so inspiring!! It is awesome that you have added this feature to your blog.

Omg I’m going to be 38 in June! Crazy. I barely remember my 30th ! I know I went out with friends for dinner the night before and to a Yankees game on the day of with my son. It was right around when my divorce started, that I for sure remember.

Reply

I just turned 38. For some reason I had a hard time turning 30, but every birthday after that has been great!

Reply

Oh, and happy birthday Janae!!! Enjoy that run tomorrow.

Reply

I am 110% obsessed with documentaries- I just watched A Ballerina’s Tale on Monday, and I want to be Misty Copeland! Be sure to check out First Position if you like ballet. Undefeated is also EXCELLENT (about football) and made me cry. Dear Zachary is also phenomenal.

Reply

Have such a fun weekend with the girls!! I turned 30 a year and a half ago and had a fun weekend with friends as well. I think life is only getting better so you’re in for some fun!!

Reply

YAY – welcome to the 30s!!! Seriously, the 30s are the best! ☺ I will be 34 in a couple weeks (March 3) and have no idea what I will do to celebrate… aside from running a 10k race that weekend. Have a wonderful birthday!!!

This weekend I am looking forward to taking my husband and son to the air museum. My husband is obsessed with planes and has no idea we are going. SURPRISE!

I’m also doing an 11-mile run this weekend → my longest run since having my son back in September!

Reply

Happy birthday!! I am also turning 30 this year in June. My family and I are planning a vacation to GREECE! Still trying to work out the logistics but OMG it would be so great to turn 30 in Greece. I can’t believe I will be 30. My early 20s were really fun, mid twenties were more serious but still fun, late 20s have been a struggle. I hope the 30s are good/better!?

Reply

and most importantly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you have a wonderful girls trip! My 30th birthday wasn’t nearly as catastrophic as I thought it would be. In truth, I was ready to move on from my twenties and start the next chapter.

Reply

Aw! I loved reading everyone’s running accomplishments!

I’m still getting over being sick, so I don’t have anything big planned for the weekend.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday and a fun girl’s weekend! You deserve it!

Reply

All those running accomplishments make me so happy! :)

This weekend we are getting away to the mountains. I’m excited to do some tubing and spending some time next to fire!

Have a great weekend!

Congrats to everyone listed on all of their accomplishments!!

Favorite documentary: Hungry for Change. And Nefarious: Merchant of Souls is one that I want to watch but I know it’s going to be hard to watch so I’ve been avoiding it. It’s about human trafficking but I hear it has a hopeful ending.
I’m looking forward to my husband being home after traveling this week.
I’m 36 and for my 30th birthday I’m pretty sure I was in sweatpants begging for sleep with a one week old. Best way to spend a birthday, though, right?

Reply

I’ll be 32 on my next birthday – how did that happen? I can’t even remember what I did on my 30th birthday. It must not have been that exciting!

Reply

LOVE all these accomplishments! Such a fantastic idea. Gives me all the good feels :) Happy Birthday, Janae!

Go Mary!!!!! That makes me cry – but I’m in my 2nd semester and seem to cry at the drop of a hat these days. Running with a pregnant belly is very empowering. Carry on (safely) with your bad self! And congratulations!

And I’ll be 32 in September. TODAY is my husband’s 30th birthday. He is not convinced he wants to be 30. Too bad! He’s playing lazor tag and going for wings with his friends. Just like if they were in jr. high ;)

Hiked the narrows at Zion national park on my 30th

Happy Birthday, Janae!!!

Loving the accomplishments!! It is so inspiring! And it shows that no matter where you at with running…your first 10k or your first (holy amazeballs) 100 miler, all these milestones are in fact, accomplishments and worthy of celebrating!!!

I can’t quite remember turning 30…so long ago! Well, ok, I’m being a bit dramatic….I loved turning 30…it was the year I ran my first marathon, quit my job, and went back to school to get my doctorate! Early mid-life crisis, maybe….but I found you just get to know yourself better and realize that life is too short not to do everything you can to enjoy it!

Reply

I will totally have to watch that documentary!! I am a former ballerina and I love watching the dancing….

I am looking forward to just relaxing this weekend. My little is out of town with his dad until Wednesday evening :( I already miss squeezing him…

I don’t remember what I did for my 30th at all. I was in medical school though, so probably I was on call. Or studying. Ha. A girl’s trip for your 30th sounds awesome! For my 34th birthday I did a long weekend into NYC with two of my best girlfriends (one lives there and one came up from DC). It was during the separation/divorce from my ex and my son was only 8 months old. It was SO GREAT to spend that birthday with girlfriends. Exactly what I needed at the time.

Reply

awesome work by all! what a great idea. Happy Birthday Janae!! wish I could celebrate half as well as you haha :)

Reply

I don’t often comment but thought this would be right up your alley:

On my 30th birthday I ran the Napa Valley Marathon. My dad and I schemed a year in advance and saved so I could fly my mom and 2 sisters from Boston to Napa with me and treat them. I ran my 3rd full marathon (I used to do ultras…now I’m running shorter) on my 30th which happened to be 3/3/13. And I asked friends and family to send text pictures of them with the number 3…3 favorite things, an image of a 3 mile run or walk they did, 3 food items they ate to celebrate my day, etc. it was perfect! The only not perfect part was running in 80 degrees after doing all my 20 milers outside in 10 to -5 degrees!

Reply

HEY LIZ! Okay, your 30th birthday/marathon/texts and pics from family and friends made me smile really big. That is so awesome Liz! I bet your body was crazy confused running the marathon is such opposite weather than your training!

Reply

awesome accomplishments from every runner!!!!! from 10k to 100miles, the feeling must be great. keep the miles coming

I’ll be 52 on my next birthday. My 30th was so long ago that I have no idea what I did! Friends of ours got married a few days before my 30th, so I remember going to their wedding, but not sure if we did anything special on my actual birthday.

Love all the accomplishments – great job everyone!

Janae! I just turned 30 and I chose to run a half marathon in Walt Disney World on my birthday!! ?

I watched a documentary last year on running 4 ultra marathons in the 4 deserts of the world. I think it was called desert runners.

Reply

Happy birthday, Janae!

I went to Victorian Cape May, NJ for my 30th and we stayed in a pretty fantastic inn. For my 40th I went to Sonoma and San Francisco. I’ll have to plan something epic for 50. I think that women start really hitting their groove in the 30’s; a lot of what you work towards starts to really click.

I watched a documentary on David Bowie, whom I loved. It’s going to be on PBS tonight again.

Reply

The running accomplishments is so great!! Congrats all!!

I recently watched the documentary “Meet the Patels” on Netflix … Pretty funny! http://www.meetthepatelsfilm.com/

I recently watched the movie Desert Runners that focused on 4 endurance athletes running a 1000K race that you might like. Happy birthday!

I’m running the Hot Chocolate 5K tomorrow in 16 degree weather. I know it’s not Utah cold, but it’s cold for this Nashville girl ?

I turn 35 on the 16th of this month. For my 30th I had an 80s house party.

Ummmmmmm 16 degrees! THAT IS COLDER than it is here. GOOD LUCK tomorrow! Haver a blast and send in your accomplishment from this weekend:) HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN 4 days!!!

If you like a little mystery, I watched a very intriguing documentary the other day called “The Imposter.” It’s about a con-man from Spain who pretends to be a teenager from Texas who has gone missing. He goes to America to live with the family of the missing boy. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat!

I also love documentaries about the food industry, like “Food Inc” and “Vegucated.” They made me think a lot about the food I eat, and where it’s coming from!

Love your blog! You inspire me to keep on running:)

Reply

Okay, I am going to have to watch that one like asap! THANK YOU those all sound like documentaries I need to watch:) Thanks for your sweet words!!!

So yeah, I also watch Netflix documentaries at 2 a.m. when I wake up. ( i fall asleep okay but usually wake up and can’t go back for a bit). I watched Misty Copeland one two nights ago at 2 a.m.! Ha.

Fun to read about all the gals! So sweet to share your space and highlight them.

I will be 44 on my next birthday. I was in my first trimester of my first (and only) pregnancy when I turned 30, and I did a 50 mile bike ride that day. I sorta felt like I had arrived at adulthood on my 30th birthday :-) My husband is nearly 14 years older than me, so I was (still am!) always the youngest person so turning 30 was okay with me. Happy Birthday to you!

Oh my – the tangled headphone pic. Last night my headphones got tangled in my car charger cord, I lost an earbud cover on the floor at the gym and had to crawl on my hands and knees to find it, then it got tangled in another cord in my car when I got home from the gym. I actually said out loud that the headphone were trying to ruin my day!

Have a great birthday weekend, Janae! When I turned 30, I had recently found out my husband was cheating on me and it seemed like my life was over. But, now I’m almost 40, remarried to an awesome guy, and so happy. It was a really hard road, but I’m where I should be today. Whew!

Welp, how the heck did you know exactly what to write to me tonight. I really appreciate that Mary Ann. Thanks for opening up to me… I needed it!

Oh, I’m so glad! After the fact, I was thinking that was such a lame thing to tell someone celebrating a birthday. I should have just said something positive. All-in-all, I think my 30s have been great! I hope the new decade is full of the best things in life for you.

I just had the biggest accomplishment this past weekend…. I completed a 1/2 marathon in 1:56:42!! Been shooting for a sub 2 hour half marathon for a while… I am 43 and been running for 3 1/2 years……. I am actually training for a full marathon in March, but honestly, my year is complete with achieving a sub 2 hour half marathon! LOL! :D

I’ll be 53 in April. I wish I could remember my 30th :-{

I do remember a co-worker who was turning 30 before I did. She was an emotional mess. It was kind of funny, but not to her. I remember feeling it was no big deal, but that’s about it.

Every year is a gift of grace! Have a wonderful day!!

I just have to say that I loved reading Mary’s accomplishment! By far, the most difficult part of enduring infertility treatments for me has been not being able to run and workout the way I’m used to. I hope that one day soon I will also be able to return to running… While healthy and pregnant! I really needed to hear that it was possible. Thank you!

Kim, giving up marathoning was the biggest sacrifice I made as part of the process. I hate sitting on the sidelines but it was the right thing to do in my case. I’m still really early in the pregnancy, but if this one sticks I’ll be due the weekend of my favorite marathon!

Best of luck with your treatments and I hope that you’re back on the treadmill/track/pavement very soon!
