Brooke’s Race Recap.

I have a very important post for you this morning.

Brooke’s first race recap.

I am pretty sure this may have been 5 of the best minutes of my life.

We woke up at 7 Saturday morning and Brooke had pancakes for breakfast.  I ran three miles on the treadmill, did some weights and then we got Brooke all ready and drove on over to the starting line.

She started off with some stretches, strides and dynamic drills;)

We then made sure to double-knot her running shoes.

IMG 4665

And then we were off and Brooke held my hand almost the entire time.  We took a few walking breaks and Brooke stayed strong.  She used her mantra, “my legs are not tired.”  It works every time for her.

IMG 1529

She did a final sprint towards the finish line and she crossed like a champ.

 IMG 1530

.25 miles (I thought it was .5 miles but I was wrong) and we had a blast doing it together.  She said she wanted to do another one which made my heart happy.

IMG 1524

The medal is pretty sweet and she was stoked about it.

IMG 4693

They even had a bounce house at the end which was the perfect reward for her after her hard work out there on the pavement.

IMG 4695

We even got to meet some cute blog readers that rocked their half-marathon!

IMG 1511

And Bree did too!!!   Overall, it was such a fun experience!  I am hoping this is our new Halloween tradition!

IMG 4661

And of course we made sure to get in some serious trick-or-treating at night.

IMG 1567

We stopped at Mer’s house first.

IMG 1548

Then we went to my parents’ house and met up with my sister and her kiddos.  It is so fun taking Brooke trick-or-treating in the same neighborhood that I did as a kid!

IMG 1575

Steak, noodle and veggie Pho to end the night after eating way too much candy.

Congrats to Brooke on her first race. She looks so happy! Oh do I ever love pho. Perfect way to keep the candy in balance!

I love the photo of you and Brooke running together! How fun!

We stayed in and watched the World Series and handed out candy! My favorite was my nephews costume (not that I’m biased) – he dressed as the man with the yellow hat and had Curious George with him. It was great.

Time to watch the NYC marathon!

Congrats to Brooke on her first race! She looks so happy in the photos and you know this will be her first of many race!

I have no idea why but this actually made me cry! Congrats Brooke for rocking your first race!! :) I loved your costumes! I spent my halloween running my first post pregnancy race , aHalloween 5K and spending the day with my baby boy who dressed up as Frankenstein as we waited and waited for NO trick or treaters to come.

Reply

Awesome! Glad her first race was a success.

Reply

That is so exciting for her first race!

I spent Halloween taking care of a sweet black lab and then watching the first Halloween movie…………Jamie Lee Curtis’ debut!

Reply

What a sweet race! Love how excited Brook looks and her form is great :) I think you have a star on your hands!!

For Halloween I had an early Thankgiving with my fiance’s family (I don’t mind the Thanksgiving food starting early!!) and then went to a sports bar to watch football and the World Series! Overall a fun day :)

Yay for Brooke, love that she got a medal! My long run yesterday was awesome followed by a great Halloween. Time to watch the NYCM!

So stinking cute!! Just thinking of my son one day running a race with me makes my heart want to explode. No runs this weekend as we’ve got a few inches of snow on the ground!

Reply

That is one of the cutest things i’ve ever seen!! Congratulations Brooke on your first of many running medals!! Great to see you so happy too Janae! :)

She is the cutest thing ever! I’m glad she had fun. :)

Halloween was a ton of fun for me… I watched some friends do a bike race and then came back and played the cutest Halloween video game ever (Costume Quest) while giving out candy to trick-or-treaters. Way fun, way low key. :)

Congratulations Brooke! Looks like a blast, and what a fun thing to do together. I love that she wore your Garmin!

I didn’t do anything Halloween-y this year. We were lazy homebodies and made pot roast in the crock pot and watched a football game.

I took my mutt out for a 3 mile run yesterday, he’s so fun to run with! I’m going to hit the pavement for a few miles this morning. I haven’t decided how many yet. (Ah the joys of not being in training)

So awesome! Such lovely memories you’re building!

The Halloween part has been fun, but this daylight savings/sleeping stuff has sucked. My kids were up at 4am! And no one has been to sleep since.

Reply

Yay Brooke! Such a cute race! I love Pho and we had a great Halloween. It was raining here in Nashville so we only had one trick or treater.

I raced a half marathon yesterday. I was trying to break 1:30, but didn’t quite get there! Very close and now I realize that I am capable of it so until next time! Learning to enjoy the build.

Brooke did such a fabulous job!!! She has such great running form and her outfit was so cute. I love her mantra!!

It did not get any cooler than 75 and humid over night. So my run at 6:15 start was okay for about 30 mins until the sun came up and then the heat shot up quickly. I did 6 instead of 7 miles and was drenched. I am going to jump on the treadmill and get in about 3 more miles.

Yesterday late afternoon, we took my step son and his girlfriend to the Cheesecake Factory for his birthday dinner. Either they were having an off day or they have gone down hill. Half of the lettuce in my salad was black (yuck!!) and my husbands salmon was super dry :( They had no problems with the cheesecake though :)

Looks like Brooke and you had a blast at her first race! What a great memory you two made :-).

We had friends and some family over for Halloween. The guys took the kids out and us ladies handed out candy. It was fun!

Have a great Sunday!

Reply

I love Pho! We have a great place right by our house that I frequent with my mom.
I haven’t gotten any running in this weekend due to some extreme rain in Texas and it’s really bumming me out sonce I have a half in 2 weeks!

Reply

Brooke is just like her mama

Reply

this is amazing.
My halloween was great – I ate pumpkin shaped pizza and watched movies with M (pregnant halloween = early to bed). Never had Pho, but might have to give it a try. Running for me is not happening, I need to get into a solid regular walking plan until Baby comes though.
Two questions:
1. Where did you get brook’s amazing costume? (I love it and I love that she wore it so much this week)
2. Did you ever run with Brook in a stroller? Did you ever do a race with stroller? I want the deets

Reply

I love that Brooke is already taking after her mother. Such a special memory for you both.

Halloween was great! We handed out lots of candy to trick-or-treaters. Unfortunately, with a 2 month old, daylight savings does not apply. Extra sleep? Nope! Bring on the coffee…

Reply

My running has changed so much this weekend! I’m used to my 6am runs being in the dark! But with this time change, today I did 7 miles at 6:30am and let’s just say I was not prepared for the sun to be so strong. It may or may not looked like I had gone swimming when I was finished.

Reply

Congrats to Brooke on her race! How fun.

Pho is a favorite of mine. It’s particularly good after a half marathon. Filling and a little bit salty.

We went to a party last night. I was a pirate and my husband was Jake from State Farm.

Reply

This definitely wins the prize of most adorable race recap ever! You should definitely frame that first picture of the two of you, it’s perfect!

Reply

How fun! I would love to do a little run like this with my girls!

Reply

This is so sweet! I can’t wait to have kids just to take them to races haha ;)
Congrats to Brooke!
I’ve been struggling with knee injury and managed 5 minutes of pain free running today. Never thought I’d celebrate 5 mins of running when a month ago I ran a marathon but hey, even the slowest progress is progress right.

Reply

This is all too cute. Congratulations Brooke on her first race!!

Reply

Yay! Congrats to Brooke for her first race! I was wondering why you used the treadmill before going to a race until I realized… oh yeah! This is Brooke’s race.

Pho is one of my favorite meals. And it has to be with steak. I know this place that serves a bowl of pho so big it could count as two meals. So comforting!

We rocked Halloween this year. I dressed up for the first time in years (as a zombie) and hit a block party nearby with Gavin. We really freaked people out with our Walking Dead theme. :-)

Reply

Go Brooke!! Congrats!!

I was gonna run the Monster Dash Half on Saturday but the forecast was terrible so I ran my own half marathon on Friday :) Taking a couple days off running cause my foot has been achy and I suspect I jumped into long distances too soon after the marathon.

Looks like you guys had a great Halloween!! Happy Sunday!

Reply

That Garmin on her little arm! So cute!

Reply

Such a fun Halloween. Awesome race Brooke!! I don’t run on the weekends but we walk with Cocoa. She had some puppy park fun and we watched the World Series :). I’ve never had Pho but would love to. I love food and will try pretty much anything. Have a beautiful Sunday!!

Reply

Congratulations, Brooke!!! I love pho… it’s been awhile since I’ve had it. I need to fix that.
Just easy runs with the hubs this weekend. I’m thinking about an ultra next weekend, but who knows.

Reply

Yay Brooke! She has amazing running form for such a young runner! …wonder where she gets that from ;) Love any pics of her screaming down a slide and always great to see Mer ! I worked, went for a run and handed out some candy…very low key Halloween.

Reply

She wore a Garmin! Cutest EVER.

Halloween was great for me—- a new PR in the 5k, and ended up going to the Taylor Swift concert!!

I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever had pho….

Reply

Oh my noodle, Brooke is so adorable…my heart hurts!
Halloween consisted of a rainy run, spending an hour brushing out that wonderful pony tail knot, working, and eating way too much candy with the partner in crime. So, it was successful :)
This weekend’s running was fun and tough but really looking forward to this Sunday off!

Reply

Yay for Brooke! The fact that she said she wants to do another one! Goodness!

Halloween was okay. We got 3 groups of trick-or-treaters! 3! That’s it! I was expecting a lot more! grrr…. Stupid trunk-or-treat took all the fun out of kids coming and knocking at our door.

I didn’t go for a run, and I definitely feel a lot better today from resting. So hopefully I can get out and kick butt this week with running! :D

Reply

Awesome race, Brooke! She’s the cutest little piggy, too!

We don’t seem to get trick or treaters anymore, so I didn’t even turn the light on this year.

I did my last long run this morning and it felt great – Canyon City Marathon on Saturday!! I am so ready!

Reply

Brooke it toooo cute! Congrats on the first race done! :)

I LOVE pho. Nice and spicy without the noodles and extra veggies is my jam.

Reply

Brooke is too cute wearing your watch while she runs too! So adorable!!!

Halloween and the extensive amount of candy kids get should never end…

Reply

I LOVE pho! Totally warms my insides!

Reply

I’m dying. I’m dead.

Reply

And by that I mean this is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Reply

Yay Brooke! Way to go….she is the cutest pig ever

Reply

Congratulations Brooke!!! That race is the cutest!
Pho has been on my must try list for awhile now.

Reply

WTG Brooke! Freakin PRECIOUS!!!

Reply

Yay for first races! She looks adorable in her mini-me mommy running outfit!

I did some rustic cabin camping this weekend! No electronics, no electricity, no running water or bathrooms and a mile hike into the cabin on the Appalachian Trail. It was a great weekend with 13 of my lovely family members :)

Reply

This was such a gorgeous all round post!! Congrats to Brooke, looks like she’s caught the running bug :D

Reply

This made my heart so happy. So freaking adorable! And Brooke has better form than I do. And I’m 26.

Reply

Congrats to Brooke on her first race!! Looks like a great day overall.
We had fun giving out candy in our neighborhood yesterday- all the kids were so cute!
I had an 18 miler yesterday and now my taper has officially begun!

Reply

I LOVE PHO!!!!!!
This was the first year I’ve really done anything to celebrate Halloween in a long time- it was a good time! :)

Reply

That’s a brilliant picture of you both, she seems to have nailed her running form.. We have 3.1 mile Parkrun races in the UK, which you can bring kids and dogs too. My brother pushes his 2 year old (turning 3) daughter around the course in her buggy, but she always gets out and runs the final 0.12 miles. It’s great to run alongside her, even though she beat me last time… :)

Reply

I love that Brooke just had her first race. Seriously, I think this is going to be a defining moment in your motherhood, and I feel privileged to have a peek at how it all went down.

Have a great rest of your Sunday Janae!

Reply

How frickin’ adorable!! I can’t wait to run my first race with my daughter. Today she was watching the news and we had an inaugural marathon going on in Milwaukee which the news was covering and she got so excited and said, “mom look at all the runners!” I had pho for the first time a few weeks ago and it was delicious.

Reply

Aw Brooke is so cute!! What a fun race!

This weekend my friends and I ran an Ultra marathon….not an official race just one around our town here. I’ve done marathons before but those 31 miles just put my body over the edge! I have no desire to go that distance again…the full marathon is challenge enough. I nearly passed out but I finished! :)

Reply

Brooke looked like she loved her first race!

I just did a short run yesterday to get ready for the Big Sur Half next weekend – race-cation to celebrate my friend Cathy’s birthday! While my run yesterday was just so-so I did find my new favorite song to run to – Hold My Hand by Jess Glynne! I may have hit “repeat” a few times :)

Reply

Woo, Brooke looked strong out there! :) and I just melted at your halloween costumes – absolutely adorable!

Reply

Congrats to Brooke on her first race!

Reply

That is so cute!! I hope she wore your garmin the whole race.

Reply

Awesome pictures of Brooke’s first race!

Halloween was great! We watched two scary movies, carved pumpkins, went trick-or-treating, and ate lots of candy (of course).

I love pho, but I almost never eat it…not sure why.

My running this weekend consisted of two 5Ks on the treadmill. I’m trying to get speedier at this distance. (Really I just need a running goal for the next month or so before I begin spring marathon training.)

Reply

Adorable! I love that Brooke had such an epic run.

Reply

so so cute, well done Brooke, great form!

Reply

Awesome job and recap Brooke….you look like a true champion out there….

Reply

Congratulations to Brooke! Saturday was my daughter’s (5) first race too. She ran with us (and I pushed her brother in a stroller) for a 3K race! She ran/walked the whole distance. Super proud of her.
Congratulations again Brooke! and sweet medal! Where will she display it?

Reply

Congratulations Brooke! You have a runner on your hands Janae! I love that she wore your garmin. Too cute. I can’t wait to one day do that with my little one.

Reply

This is fantastic! Kids want to be like their parents so I’m sure she’s as psyched as you are to enter a race. Keep it up. I love her mantra and will be using it on my run this evening.

Reply

This is by far the cutest thing! I need to get my sisters to run… Inspiring.
