Running sure is convenient

The main reason why I love that Brooke is in a big girl bed… it is a lot easier for me to get in next to her to wake her up in the mornings.  Things were a little tricky with the crib.

I did some core work (8 minute abs and planks for the win) before waking her up and then went for my run after dropping her off at school.

What it looked like when we went outside.  Snow.  In the mountains.  Ummmmm this is not okay.

I had to take my car in to get some work done this morning and so I just decided to start my run from the dealership while they worked on it.   5 miles @ a 7:53 pace and some popcorn to refuel with at the dealership when I got back.

As I started my run I was thinking about how ridiculously convenient running is.  Instead of sitting around and waiting for my car I could just leave and go run.  You can do it anytime, most anywhere and for however long you want.

One of the frustrating things about being an injured runner—>  you go from being able to throw your running shoes on and run out the front door to having to figure out different ways to exercise that seem way less convenient (I mean… driving to the gym is not crazy inconvenient but I think you get what I mean).  I used to go for short runs sometimes during my lunch breaks as a teacher even.  It would wake me up and help me relieve some stress (teenagers can cause quite a lot of stress) even if it was just for a mile or two.   Running is also super convenient because it doesn’t take a lot of thinking or coordination.  No matter what pace I am going, whenever I finish I feel like I got in a good workout.  Aren’t you grateful that I profess my deep love for running every single day on the internet.

Later on I picked up my date for the afternoon:)

IMG 8997

We went to her favorite place for lunch.  If you live in Utah (I think there are some in Arizona too) and you like desserts… Kneaders will make you smile.

IMG 8985

Brooke smiles about their grilled cheese and grapes kid’s meal.

IMG 8992

I had a salad and some chocolate croissant samples (yes, they give you dessert samples).

IMG 8986

We have to both hold onto the dog’s hands whenever we are crossing the road.  Makes total sense.

IMG 8995

As Mer was getting out of the car she showed me the Bombas socks that she got after I posted about them a little while back.  Most stylish grandma there ever was.

This book just arrived to my iPad…. I can’t wait.  I love Mindy.

I literally JUST posted about how the #1 thing I miss about running (since I’m currently injured) is the convenience of being able to just run out the door and get a workout in. I don’t think I ever really took running for granted but I definitely took THAT for granted. http://anniesontherun.com/2015/09/16/the-thing-i-miss-most-about-running/

I also cannot WAIT to read Mindy’s book!

Lol just came back from a pretty ugly run but at least I’m running!!

Reply

I love running because it allows me to escape from everything and just feel at peace. I don’t have to worry or stress about much, and I often have my best thoughts/prayers while doing something I truly enjoy.

Please tell me how the book is–I absolutely LOVED her first one!

I was just thinking that even though I only have about 45 minutes in between job #1 and job #2 I need to go for a quick 2 mile run. It has been a stressful few days and I need a run to help me deal with that!

I’m excited to read Mindy’s book too! Her first was great!

Reply

I love running because I can accomplish so many things while doing it. It makes no sense, but I always figure everything out and my problems seem so much smaller after I’m done.

Reply

I agree the convenience factor is huge, especially when there’s an injury or some other reason you can’t run! That’s one thing that keeps me from swimming and the gym in general – it takes so much less time out of my day to just run.

1. I’m a CPA and I love that running is so “measurable”- miles run, pace, splits….it’s a sport made for accountants!!
2. It can be social or solitary.
3. It’s a great way to burn calories!

I listened to your podcast. You sound like such a happy and positive person!

Those pajamas For The Win!!

I love the convenience factor of running and how little gear you need. I also love that it’s outside, unlike fitness classes at the gymnor swimming. Plus, there’s nothing like a runner’s high!

Convenience is right!!! I run to the gym to workout. LOL I have had a great week running. Watch out at Walmart.

I love running so much – because I am able to run again!! After such a long layoff, running again is like a dream come true for me.
I will never take it for granted again, and I feel like a little kid – running through the fields, leaving all the cares behind for a while.
I did the same thing – dropped my youngest daughter at preschool yesterday and away I went for 4 miles – the most I’ve run since December!!
I just saw something about your podcast? I am behind on news this week – I’m off to listen to it!!! Have a wonderful day :)

Where did you get your gray t-shirt? It looks so comfy!

This week, I’m loving that running is one of those things that helps me feel stronger and calmer. Something in life is always going crazy, and no matter what it is, running is the thing I can count on to help me de-stress and make me feel strong enough to handle it!

Reply

I’ll post the links for all of my favorite fall clothes tomorrow morning! I hope you are having a fabulous day and I LOVE that running helps you to feel stronger and calmer!

Reply

Oh my gosh I thought I was the only one who ran while waiting for my car at the dealership! im pretty sure they think I’m crazy but it’s SOOO convenient and more fun than waiting

Reply

So true running is so much more convenient than other forms of exercise. I ran today to get rid of stress which is why I run most days. Running is much cheaper than therapy lol

Reply

I feel the same way! When I was injured I hated getting to the pool, getting in and swimming and driving back. You have to make time and esp with pool schedules. I love running bc you literally can do it with whatever your schedule you have. There’s literally no excuses.

With that said, I commute to work, so I have to either run after four pm or get up at 4:30 or 5 am. If I go short I could go in the morning, but I’m not a person that like waking up before 6 I’ve been going around 5-5:30 pm, but the humidity is starting to kill me here in San Diego. I just can’t get myself up early.. How do you do it? I feel like it would be soooo much better to do it that.

I have thought about running during work, but never gave it a shot. I would be pretty sweaty. I guess I could just go to go. I’m pretty sure my office would think I was a weirdo too lol They already make comments about my healthy eating habits. Any who, love your blog :)

it’s my alone time, my time to focus on me. I work as a case worker in Skid Row, so i am constantly solving crises and working with people who have severe mental illnesses and disorders. I live with my boyfriend, so I don’t get much alone time at home, and when I run with friends… as a therapist/social worker/counselor/helper, i tend to listen to other people/friends talk a lot. People think I’m crazy for going out for 18+ miles alone… but sometimes thats the only time I get to hear myself think!! I can listen to music I want to listen to, think about things I want to think about, or just not think at all. it’s glorious.

Running. I love running. I love that you would go during lunch break. That’s the best thing and is a great way to relieve stress. We all know that. What did you teach?

I love that running can happen anywhere. It makes it so easy to workout while on vacation or, like you said, running while you wait for your car. Just don’t run to the grocery store, my sister did that not thinking about how to get the groceries back.

Reply

I love long runs with friends, we talking about everything which makes the miles pass by so quickly- it’s my favourite part of the week. On the taper the week I have a half marathon on Sunday fingers crossed I break the 1.50.

Reply

I can run indoors or out.

It can be social or solitary.

No run is ever the same. (which can be frustrating at times but keeps things fresh).

Reply

I agree with you about the convenience thing. I *love* swimming, but it is such a pain. When I go for an hour long run, it takes me an hour. When I go for an hour swim, it takes between 1.5 and 2 hours once you factor in packing a swim bag, driving to and from the pool, and showering. It’s just not convenient at all.

Reply

I can’t wait to read Mindy’s new book! I hope you’ll let us know what you think! Hmm things I love about running: I get to explore new areas of my city just by changing up my route, it is a complete stress reliever and it encourages me to eat healthier.

Reply

Agreed. Running outdoors is super convenient. I love just stepping outside my front door and going!

Reply

Your Mer is the cutest ever! How lucky you are xo

Reply

It’s been rainy and I love running in the rain. It cools off Florida’s insane humidity! I can’t believe you guys are getting snow in the mountains up there! I’m a little jealous–I’m from Buffalo, NY and miss seeing that fluffy white stuff :))))

Reply

Mmm croissants!

Reply

I just got my four pack of Bombas! Can’t wait to take ’em for a run. Love your styling grandma.

#1 reason I love running – I can do it anywhere! We are packing up and heading out of state. So easy to pack running gear. My husband travels with his bicycle a LOT, but it’s a major ordeal. Airlines never hassle me about my running shoes ;)

Reply

I love running because you can do it from anywhere, especially when exploring new cities:)

Reply

Your Mer is absolutely adorable! And very fashionable! So sweet:)

Reply

I especially loved running this week because I spent the last few days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It reminded me why I run as a Hero and made me feel enormously grateful for my health!

Reply

I wrote about 3 reasons this morning, my supporting neighbors, my encouraging hubby and my running friends. :)

P.S. TJMaxx has an excellent donut costume, any Halloween races in the future?

Reply

I agree about how easy and convenient running is. I love that you can just throw on a pair of shoes and run most of the time. I often tell people that is why I cannot get back into competitive or distance swimming. Driving to the pool…shower…it’s like a 3 hour process! LOL.

Reply

I love running bc I get to catch up on life with my favorite running buddies. I also pre-ordered her book and it was delivered! Can’t wait to read tonight.

Reply

Running is so much more convenient than anything else! The last time I was injured I tried swimming/pool running and I had to plan around the times the pool was opened and bring stuff to shower at the gym. I was so appreciate when I started running again- its so much less time consuming for the same amount of time spent working out!

Reply

Your grandma is just too cute. Also love that Brooke plays with cars and “girly” things!

Reply

Ha! Janae…I seriously thought I was the only one. I did the same thing while training for Boston last year. Dropped my car off at the shop and ran for the hour or so until it was ready.
So much better than jut sitting around and waiting!

Reply

I love running because even when I have a bad day, running by the beach can always make me feel better. That’s exactly what I needed today too.

Reply

Oh. my. gosh. Your grandma > everyone elses’ grandma.

And why did no one tell me about Kneader’s dessert samples before!?! You’ve just made my day.

Reply

Why do I love running this week? Because I got to listen to you on the Runner’s Connect Podcast with Tina! AMAZING! She is right…listening to you talk just put a smile on my face the whole time I was running! You have an amazing attitude and positive energy that is seriously contagious!

I’ve also done the whole drop my car off at the dealer and then I run home. Very convenient!

Reply

It can always challenge you. I mean just go for an all out sprint, or for some crazy long miles. At some point the body will have to surrender to the run. (But not without a fight)

Reply

I’m not loving running today – it was a rough one. But usually, I love running because it helps me challenge myself, and shows me that I can do a lot more than I think I can when I set my mind to it. Plus it’s a good workout!

Reply

Why I love running – because short of those few times where I’ve actually come back injured, I always feel better after a run than how I felt when I started. It’s a total re-start to mood, energy and attitude. My body feels young and strong when I run. There is just nothing better!

Reply

Ohh, I want to check out that book! Good call!

I’m loving running this week, because tomorrow (Friday) is RUN TO WORK DAY in Philly! How cool is that?? There are a bunch of special deals around the city and contests for people running to work. I just love how running is such a community builder. :)

Reply

Okay that is the coolest thing ever… they need to do that here. Enjoy the day tomorrow, I love it!

Reply

I love running because it is the best way to start my day. Even if it’s only one mile, running never fails to make my entire day better!

Reply

I had planned to do a run while my car was getting an oil change this week but I’m still resting due to my injury. Run is so convenient in that we can plan for things like that but injuries do cause us to rethink things. I went to the gym to ride the stationary bike today. Glad to get in a workout but miss running. Hope to test out a little run in the morning.

Reply

I finally had s good run yesterday so I love running again. Lol. But seriously it really is so convenient

Reply

I love the convenience of running too! I’ve really been trying to get creative about fitting it in. I used to be a strict early morning runner, but now I think when will I just be sitting at a practice or trying to kill some time and I’ve been fitting in my runs then. It makes me feel so productive :)

Reply

Yes! This! This is exactly why I love running. I can run home from work and most of the time it’s actually quicker than public transports. I’m currently injured and it’s such a pain having to get up early to walk to the gym, then shower, change, and get to work. Such a pain!

I’m also so glad you reminded me about Mindy Kaling’s new book. I love her so much. I’m definitely downloading that asap and devouring it this weekend!

I am mid half marathon training and pulled a muscle in my neck. I don’t even know how to cross train because every motion causes spasms. All I can think about is how much I’m going to be behind in my training. It is very frustrating.

Reply

I am loving running this week because I have been listening to the podcast you did on “run to the top”. It’s been keeping me motivated and occupied during my runs this week. I live in Arizona and a Kneaders just opened up here down the street. I can’t wait to try it!

Reply

I’m so excited to read Mindy’s new book! Season 4 premiered on HULU this week! I have big plans to watch it tonight when I get home from work :)

Reply

A co worker was just talking about those doughnut pjs!

I love running (esp in the fall) because it is me time and makes me feel strong. I am a little sore after my 20 miler on Wednesday, so instead of 8 miler today I think I am just going to do a few easy miles. I love that I can choose how hard, how far, and when/where I run…………it is complete freedom in a sport.

Reply

I love running because I’m so thankful that I CAN run!

Those pajamas are hilarious! Please make sure you post a pic once you get them. ;)

1. I totally agree about running. It’s just so easy — all you need is a pair of sneakers.
2. I loved Mindy’s first book so her new one is on my to-read list. Need to get a copy ASAP.
3. Your grandma is seriously the cutest.
4. Miss you! xoxo

I love how with running, no matter how your training went or what sort of shape you are in, you can always put in a hard effort and listen to your body and have a good race. The times might look different, but it’s still a good race!

I saw Mindy Kaling during her book tour stop in DC recently- she was AMAZING!
