I needed yesterday’s run.  All of my other runs last week did not feel good.  I was struggling to hit even my easy paces.  My stomach was super off all week but hallelujah because I finally felt like myself again yesterday.  I was starting to get nervous (aka taper time is meant to stress out about every little detail right?)

I also got to run with someone yesterday so that made the run fun because we talked for most of the run and it flew by.  We even ended up running a bit with some guys that have done almost FIFTY marathons with PRs of around a 2:45 at the St. George Marathon.  I talked to them about strategy and when to let loose on the course and go for it.. getting more and more excited:)

The workout yesterday called for 6 miles @ 7:30 pace and then 8 miles @ 6:30 pace.

What we did—>  6 @ 7:30 (didn’t check my garmin much but we hit that exact pace without really paying attention… weird) and then 8 @ 6:28 average pace.  The temps were perfect—> 50ish degrees.  Let’s just hope that St. George gets the memo in two weeks to have the same weather as yesterday.

Post-run text from my coach.  I listened to him and didn’t have a donut or a cookie.  Rude.

I did the rehydrate/food/ice bath/nap thing before heading out for the rest of the day.

Wedding festivities have started for my cute friend.  She gets married next week and she had her bridal shower yesterday.

They are quite the perfect couple and I am so excited for them.

The shower was at Pizza Factory = our favorite salad bar and breadtwists that are 4 feet long.

Fall is here and we went to the last night of Chalk the Block (can you tell I try to stay as busy as possible when Brooke is gone).

IMG 9179

Each parking stall had incredible chalk art like this one.

I finished off the night with my sweet sister.  The later it gets, the weirder we get together.

I get to pick up this little thing tonight!

I hope you get to sleep in a bit, relax and eat an extra delicious breakfast today!

Sadly my Sunday is pretty bad so far – I got sick last night and have to miss my half this morning :( Hoping the kids don’t catch it!

I have a small cold so will be resting a lot today! Breakfast will be good though. Cinnamon Greek Yogurt Pancakes with Carmelized Apples! Perfect for fall!

I’m doing my long run today since I had to work yesterday. After the run I’m planning to do some stretching and foam rolling and get lots of water, food and rest!

Reply

The best part of this Sunday is that I am off tomorrow too! Hallelujah for 3 day weekends!
And I think we are going out for breakfast. I want a Hawaiian omelette and my other half wants French toast.

The best part of my Sunday is church and rest day :). I used to never take a day off, but with harder training and more miles I now love my rest day!!!!
Shredded mini wheats and coffee for breakfast
Post long run I will sometimes take an ice bath, stretching and I always drink a glass of chocolate milk :).

I just had and egg tortilla wrap for breakfast. Took the dog to the park this morning.
Next up is cleaning out the garage!
I usually fuel, foam roll and rest after a long run. Been icing a sore spot on my foot too.

The best part of Sunday is church, rest day, and pancakes for breakfast. Post long rin I like to elevate my legs, drink some Nuun, and eat a meal of carbs and protein like potatoes, veggies, and eggs. Great job on your run yesterday!

My husband was away for work in Alaska all week, but today I finally get to see him!! So excited. That’s awesome to hear you had such a good run.

Reply

Yay! Glad you get to see him! What part of Alaska was your hubby in?

Reply

Tedi he went to Valdez and Anchorage. He said it was so beautiful! So glad to have him back though :)

Reply

oatmeal for breakfast!
No running today, only eating and swimming.

My morning started really early as my little one decided he was wide awake at 4am. Life with a newborn is definitely an adjustment. Thank goodness for naps!

Yay for a successful long run. Tapering is more mental than anything – you will be ready to roll come race day!

Sunday plans → football, walk, and snuggles with my little man.

Best part of Sunday so far was sleeping in! I had a 10k race yesterday (PR!) and am currently trying to recover.

I had a cinnamon raisin bagel covered with cream cheese!

My usual recovery is to keep moving around. Last time I ran in the USAF 10k I didn’t move at all afterwards and regretted it for the next week. I also have a tiger stick that I use and I usually do some yoga to stretch out.

DH and I are heading to the Montana Marathon course to cheer on a coworker who is running her first whole marathon. Then we are driving to Red Lodge and I will run 10-12 miles.

I had a not-so-great donut for breakfast.

Post hard workout I like to go for a good meal, put on compression socks and relax. But later I am always sure to go for a 1-2 mile walk just to keep the muscles from getting too stiff. I did this even after my marathon.

I just had some eggs with bacon and veggies for breakfast! Today will involve a lot of resting, with some easy yoga/foam rolling and maybe a walk to loosen everything up after yesterdays long run. Post-long run or hard workout includes lots of good food, hydrating, and compression socks!

Woohoo! Awesome run!

Best part of Sunday will be doing a photo shoot for my running line! It looks like it’s about to rain in Philly right now, so fingers crossed that it doesn’t…

Eggs are always my go-to weekend breakfast. :)

My run yesterday was awful. Everything on my body hurt. I hate running in the cold for that reason. And it also reminded me that I still have asthma, and have to be careful running in cold temps. My favorite temp to run in is 65-75, even 80 is great for me.
How do you keep your muscles and all of your face from hurting during cooler runs?

Reply

My ears usually freeze (which gives me a headache later) so I have to wear ear warmers. There are balaclavas, and other things you can use to cover your face. My face (chin mostly) warms up after a mile or so – same with my hands.

Sunday Highlights: Church, dinner with my family, relaxing… It’s going to be a good day! :)

We are having egg white french toast! SO good! It has become a Sunday morning breakfast tradition!

Reply

Please tell me where your cute friend got her cute dress!!? Great job on your run!

Reply

Hey girl!!! Thank you!!! She said she got it at Shabby Apple!

Breakfast will definitely be some homemade raisin cinnamon bread with coconut butter. Obsessed with it! I make a loaf every week. Bread makers are worth having!

The weather is gorgeous today. I think we are headed up to Tahoe to watch and cheer some of the Lake Tahoe Ironman that’s taking place today. We have a few friends doing it.

Enjoy your rest day and picking up your sweet Brooke later tonight.

Reply

Finally they got great weather on race day! Hope your friends did well!

Reply

I had a peach smoothie for breakfast, with a bunch of ripe peaches, spinach, honey, oats, and almond milk. Gotta take advantage of the fresh produce while it’s still around!!

I did a half marathon race this morning and got a PB 1.52 I’m so happy. I’m relaxing now for the rest of Sunday afternoon. Your blog inspires me to chase faster race times.

Reply

Catherine!!! Huge huge huge congrats! You rocked it! Rest, recover and enjoy that amazing post race Pb high!

Oatmeal and fruit for breakfast! Was going to make homemade pancakes, but we have to get ready for church and everyone slept in this morning. Heaven!
Today: Dedication Sunday for our school and then back to school picnic!!
Long run recovery: ice bath, stretch, good food, hydrate, hydrate, NAP.
Workout today: My coach (we started working together again!) told me to take the day off!
I hope you have a wonderful day and yay for Brooke coming back!!!!! :)

I am interested in what the marathon strategy ends up being…I think we all could learn a lot from it!

Reply

I will totally do a post on this!!!!

The best part of my day today was crushing my first ever half marathon. I ran a whole minute per mile faster than I thought I would and finished sub 2hrs at 1:53. I crashed at about 12.5 miles, but I was so close to the end I toughed it out. It is going to be tough to PR from here on out.

Breakfast was 3 slices of bread because the hotel breakfast didn’t open til start time.

Reply

Amy!!! Way to go on your first half marathon! This makes me so happy!! You seriously did so so awesome and pushed through the hardest parts!

Reply

I had oatmeal for breakfast with brown sugar, walnuts and fresh-picked honeycrisp apples! Just got home from a family 5k that was a lot of fun.

Reply

Just knocked out my long run 14 miles at a great pace.. got home jumped in cold shower, I was so hot. Now I am getting ready for all you can eat shrimp and salad!!!!
I am glad you are feeling better.

Great job on your 14 miler girl!!! A cold shower…. You must have been crazy hot!

Reply

Best part of my Sunday is not having ANY commitments! Went for an hour swim to loosen up my legs after yesterday’s 22-miler. Then went straight to my mom’s to have tea and pancakes.

Post-run routine = chocolate milk … Shower … Lay on the couch for 2 hours and watch the Food Network.

Have a good Sunday!!

Reply

The best part of my Sunday will be studying for the GRE’s (totally kidding)! I’ll have to fit in a run sometime today to relieve grad school application stress. After pretty much every run that I do I lay on my floor for ~20 minutes and drink water then I stretch out my legs and back. My floor is my happy place after my workouts.

Reply

Have you watched McFarland? Stop what you’re doing and watch. You will love it!

Reply

Seriously. Best. Movie. Ever. I need to watch it again before this marathon because it was so inspirational. Thank you for reminding me about it!

Reply

I can’t wait to see how well you do at St. George!!
Sunday was my long run, then church, then laziness & football!
Breakfast was a protein shake, fruit, and coffee.
Post long run is usually a shower and rolling out.

Reply

The best part of my Sunday was getting my last 20 miler in – next stop, Taper Town!

Breakfast was coffee and an English muffin with peanut butter before my run.

Post long run I have a protein shake, ice bath, compression socks and rest!

Reply

So glad you got that good run in. I ate the cookie and doughnut for you, and I feel queasy. See? Not worth it. You’ll get that sub-3 and I’ll be dragging my butt through the finish at 3:02. BOOOOOO.

Reply

No donuts?! What’s that all about?! ;)

I had apretty relaxing Sunday and am now winding down with some Chipotle. Yum!

Reply

Your pace is amazing! Great job! Best part of my Sunday was doing my first non disney post injury half marathon. It was hot hilly and hard but finished with a decent time, not nearly in your pace range but good :)

Reply

The best part of Sunday was my long run!!

Reply

Sunday highlight = spending time in the late summer/early fall weather
Breakfast = eggs with smoky salsa & avocado
No post long run routine right now – I’m currently taking a break from running to conquer P90X!

Reply

I needed the run that I had today! I’m slowly getting a little speed back after a very slow and heavy summer, which is great! I’m glad you had a great run as well!

Reply

Thank you for posting this, Janae! I had three lousy runs last week, followed by a fantastic 10 miler on Saturday. It’s nice to know even seasoned runners like you have off days too. Much love from NY. -Erica

Reply

YES YES YES!!! It is so normal to have weeks like this. So happy that you had an awesome 10 miler! Have a great week Erica!!!

Reply

Congrats to your friend!!

Reply

I love that running shirt! What kind is it? Where is it from?

Reply

Are we the same person? My running has been weird the pat 2 weeks (really only my tempo runs) due to my stomach too (which is weird because I’ve never had stomach issues). I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling better. Ekkk for your marathon!! You are going to kill it, especially after how well you ran in your half.

Reply

Glad you got a good run in!! That always feels so great:)
Sunday’s breakfast was simple…oats with a mashed banana and chopped apple.
My post long run routine = EAT!

Reply

Sounds like some good tempos! Weird that you hit the pace exactly without even noticing!

I really need to work on my recovery routine. I usually have a few ‘bad’ foods, which I’m completely OK with, but I suppose it’s not really helping me to fill my stomach with non nutrient-dense foods… Damn.

Reply

It’s great to know that you finally get the run that you desired and you are able to revitalize and refresh your body and mind!

Reply

The chalk art looks so cool!
