Got in some pretty great chest presses post run.

Okay, really I just stayed on the ground at my parents’ house for a solid 30 minutes because I was so tired after this morning’s run.  Brooke kept wanting to be thrown up in the air.  This is as high as she got.

Today’s workout had me nervous for the last week (when my coach posted it).  I told you earlier today that I have just been feeling flat (PEAK WEEK will do that to you) and a loss of motivation (it happens to everyone) so I wasn’t exactly looking forward to running hard (I MISS MY RUNNING PARTNERS pushing me).

Workout:

2 mile warm-up, 2 x 3 miles @ 6:10 pace (I averaged a 6:13 over the 6 miles… didn’t quite hit what my coach wanted) with a 3.5 minute jog in between the two sets, 2 mile cool-down.  10.54 miles total.  Splits for the 2 x 3 miles—>  6:14, 6:14, 6:13 and 6:03, 6:18, 6:16.

IMG 7917

The good news is after the first set, I felt a lot better mentally and physically.   I think once we start proving to ourselves that we actually can do it… it all feels a lot better.  After pushing myself for the first set and living through it, I knew I could live through the next set too:)

A few things from today:

-We both bought this hat.  We both wear it as much as possible.  We end up showing up wearing it at the same places and being twinners all of the time. I’m not mad about it.

IMG 7935

-Two new favorite running songs this morning courtesy of Megan——>  Fort Minor, Welcome and Macklemore, Downtown.

Screen Shot 2015 09 02 at 3 17 15 PM

-One of the many reasons I love living so close to my mom… She packs me my favorite foods to take with me when we leave their house (yes, I am 29 years old).  I think this might be our last super great watermelon of the season.

IMG 7939

-I just bought this necklace.  Brooke has called me ‘mama’ from day one and she still continues to do so and that little voice of hers just takes it to the next level.  A special word for me.

IMG 3656

-Today’s snack age was brought to me by a spoon and an avocado.  The more avocados I eat, the better I feel (probably just a placebo thing because anytime I think something works, it actually does).

IMG 7951

-I got to chat with Tina Muir (ya know… a 2:41 marathoner) from Runners Connect and she is pretty much the best.  We did a podcast together so look forward to that in a few weeks:)

-Brooke keeps asking to get her ears pierced (the below ones are clip-ons but she is convinced she needs the real ones)…

How old were you guys when you got your ears pierced (if you did)?!?

-I think I was 12.

The more _________ I eat, the better I feel.  (fill in the blank)

What was your snack today?

Any songs you are loving to run to lately?  I have a 22 mile long run to get done this week and I am in desperate need of as many new songs as possible.

I had Greek God’s honey yogurt with crushed almonds for a work snack.

I can’t seem to find music I like to run to. I don’t know many ‘new’ songs, and I’m getting bored with Bringin Sexy Back. :)

I am also a huge fan of Tina’s she is amazing – and I put a request in that she interview you so I’m super dooper excited to hear it!!

My best snack yesterday was thick Greek yoghurt with mixed frozen berries. Delicious!! Cold refreshing and like a healthy ice cream. I actually prefer it over ice cream because it makes me feel soo good!

I think I was 16 when I got my ears pierced. I pressured my high school bf into buying me tiny diamond chip earrings and then had to go out and get my ears pierced when he finally caved!

I actually think I left the hospital with my ears pierced. If not that, then maybe in one of the first pediatrician’s appointments. Back home (Puerto Rico), it’s pretty normal to pierce girls’ ears when they’re just babies. Wearing a bracelet completely normal too!

Snacked on a Quest bar today, forgot my fruit at home :(

Keep up the the good work in training! I know how the lack of motivation feels and it’s the worst. But it all goes away the moment you reach that start line!

I am at the same tired place in my training :)! Just gotta get through it :). I LOVE Tina…how fun!!!!!
I was in 3rd grade when I got my ears pierced…both of my girls were going into kindergarten.

I LOVE that necklace and this site Roolee! Their stuff is so cute!

I got my ears pierced in 4th grade. I remember it so vividly because I had wanted it for so long, and then for Christmas Santa gave me a set of “big girl” earrings (Happy Face, Peace sign and a yin & yang obviously) and I was very upset I couldn’t wear them. Of course the piercing was part of the present, I just wasn’t very clever back then.

Also VERY excited for your podcast! That sounds great!

I was 13, my parents arbitrary rules. LOL It was 8 to ride a bike 13 for ear piercing, 16 for dating and on and on…..

I was 2 or 3 years old when I got my ears pierced. My mom chopped off all of my curly hair because I wouldn’t let her comb it. To avoid gender confusion, my ears were pierced. I still tease her how cruel it was!

I was 8 for ear piercing and so were my daughters…the soonest they seemed old enough to care for them on their own.

Good luck with the 22!

I was three when I got my ears pierced. I had begged my mom since my 2nd birthday. She said I was so determined that it wouldn’t hurt me (like she cautioned it would) that I sat on the counter and squeezed my eyes shut until they were done. Not a single tear was shed. I had my daughters done at 3 months to get it out of the way. She only cried a moment until I picked her up again and all was well.

I think I was 16 or 17 years old. When growing up, my mom told me I had to wait until I was in high school. One day I asked if if I could get them pierced when I turned 25 because I thought it was sooner and I was bargaining. Ha!

The more fresh Jersey heirloom grape tomatoes I eat, the better I feel! I pop em like candy!

Eminen always pumps me up for runs. And this might be an odd choice, but I listen to Sia on longer runs because her songs are usually longer than the average 3-4 minutes so the time (seems to) pass quickly. The cadence might be a little slow for you though, miss speedy pants!!!

Reply

I was about 5 when I got my ears pierced. My mom wanted it to be a big deal for me. I got to pick my earings and it was a really nice memory. Oh and lately I have been snacking on watermelon too. Trying to get them before summer season is over!

These are some songs I’ve been into lately for my long runs! Some are slower but soooo good, I don’t mind slow and good on my long runs :) Timshel and Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons, Under Pressure by Queen, Brainstew by Greenday, Skinny Love by Birdie, DJ Khaled All I Do is Win, Golddigger by Kanye, Hard to Make a Stand by Sheryl Crow, Somethin Bout a Truck by Kip Moore, Look at Me Now by Chris Brown. A little bit of everything just because I like everything! Good luck with your run!

I was 14 when I got my ears pierced. I went with my Dad because my Mom didn’t like the idea (she never pierced her ears) but when I was 14 she agreed I could get it done. She still teases me by saying “look at my virgin earlobes”. :D Coffee and sweet potatoes are two things I don’t think I can ever get enough of.

Reply

I was 3 or 4….but I got one ear pierced and it hurt so bad I wouldn’t let the lady do my other ear. So my mom had to pin me down to get it done so I didn’t look like a pirate.

I love Fight Song. Any song that is about fighting through anything helps me to keep moving.

I think I was in 4th grade the first time, but they got infected and closed up :( Got them re-pierced in 6th grade and that time was fine. I just took my 8-yr old to get her’s done last weekend! She cried for a second but that was it.

The more salads I eat, the better I feel. Rainbow colors on my plate = good to go.

Snack yesterday was a Kind healthy grains bar. Chocolate. Yum.

I was 11 when I got my ears pierced. My mom’s rule about it was that we couldn’t get our ears pierced until after recesses were done, which was middle school for us. She knew people who accidentally got their earrings ripped out on the playground & didn’t want us to permanently damage our earlobes.

I was in 6th grade when I got my ears pierced. I was always so afraid of needles! My “boyfriend” got me earrings for Valentine’s Day and I made my mom take my to get my ears pierced that day after school, haha.

No snack yet, but it is early. I am thinking Pretzel bread bun?

Electric Love, by Born great song bouncy beat

I was an infant when I got my ears pierced too. We’re Mexican, so it isn’t weird for us either. I think it’s funny that people wait so long or that it’s made to be such a big deal. Or that it’s considered a type of body mutilation.

I pierced my daughters ears after a certain round of immunizations (6 months old, I think?). Her pediatrician, who is an Indian woman, did it for us. :)

Yum, nothing like a buttery ripe avocado!

I was 5 when I got mine pierced. I think my Mom was tired of people telling her what a cute little boy she had. I blame the 70’s and unisex clothing and the Dorothy Hamill haircut.

Can’t wait for your podcast!

I was 3 and Annabelle was 7. I figured when she asked for them, I would let her get them. To each their own though.

Way to push through and finish that tough run. You were still super close to the prescribed paces, so it totally counts. One month!! Ahhhh. It will be here so soon and one month also means it is almost taper time. Bring on the carbs and the crazies!

Reply

I was in 5th grade. We got Girlie’s done at 5 ’cause she really really wanted them. Somehow though she has amazing healing properties and despite waiting months and months they healed up the first time she went a couple days without earrings in.

We’ll get them done again when she really starts to ask for them.

I was one when I got my ears pierced and my daughter was 4 months. For me I don’t remember it at all, and when I got my daughter’s ears pierced, she cried less than when she was getting her shots :)

Songs I am loving running too lately (there’s a little bit of old school mixed in here!): Swing by Savage, Don’t Fail Me Now by Melanie Amaro, Going Under by Evanessence, and Shatter Me by Izzy Hale (featuring Lindsey Stirling —-> killer violin!!)

I have a ton of Glee music on my playlist. Its upbeat and fun and keeps those feet moving! I am a total Harry Potter nerd and just downloaded the uptown funk parody song and makes me stupid happy when it comes on

Gosh. The first time I got my ears pierced, I was… maybe 6? Then I let them grow up and got them pierced again, but I can’t even tell you when that was!

I love soup. The more soup I eat, the better I feel!

A couple of songs that pick me up on runs lately:
Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars
My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark – Fall Out Boy
Ain’t Much for Lyin’ – Fairground Saints (not really your typical running song, but it is really pretty and really easy to lose yourself in).

Reply

I got my ears pierced when I was a baby so I agree with Brooke – she does need her ears pierced! I don’t understand why some people have such an issue with piercing babies ears. Best time to do it is when they are little – you can have the pediatrician’s office do it and you don’t remember the pain, skin is soft, heals quicker. Anyway, point is I got them pierced when I was a baby :)

Reply

I was 5 when I got my ears pierced. I cried and my friend laughed at me. So when she went next I laughed at her. I was kinda mean spirited I guess ;) I would say wait as long as you can, because you will be doing all the work to keep them from getting infected if you do it while she is too young.

I would fill in the blank with fruit………..pineapples, avocados, cherries, take your pick!!

I love Disney music and right now the songs from Teen Beach Movie (the first one) are stuck in my head……………especially “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin'”

Reply

My sisters & I (4 girls) all had to wait until we were five. My parents read somewhere that you get fewer infections if you wait that long so that’s what they decided. It worked for us!
