Silent Saturday–> Long Run Edition.

Another long run in the books.  My dad accompanied me for the first halfish of my run in the canyon.  I love having him there with me.

Spotted some more wildlife along the way.

IMG 3408

Long run with fast finish on the schedule—>  First ten miles at around a 7:20 pace and last 8 miles at a 6:39 average pace.  The second my watch beeped 18.0 I stopped, dropped and put my feet up in the air.  I was done.  This long run did not come easy… I had to fight for every mile but I am really happy with the end result.

Somebody was just a little excited to see me when I got home.

IMG 7238

Lunch with one of my absolute favorites that moved away and is back visiting.

IMG 7269

Brooke and her little boy hit it off.

IMG 7265

We tried a new sushi spot (Tsunami) and it was good but Shoga will always be our favorite.  PS tempura veggies—>  the most delicious way to eat veggies.

IMG 7275

Dairy Queen to celebrate the weekend.  PS when the workers first told Brooke that they didn’t have sprinkles her heart stopped for a few seconds.

IMG 7276

Some batting cages to finish the night.

And in bed by 10:30… long runs wipe me out.

Going to the gym to strength train this morning, then making apple pancakes for my Mom and shopping. It’s still too hot in Phoenix to be out too much so indoors it is. Have a great weekend!

Right now I’m watching the IAAF World Champs – morning and nights are occupied for the next few days lol. But today I also have to go to the doctors about my silly leg

Relaxing and hanging out with friends and family this weekend! I’m taking my toddler to a workshop at a local hardware store this morning – he’s really excited!

I cannot get over how speedy you are! I am trying to break a 30 minute 5K so with that in mind I am off to the track.
Enjoy your weekend!!

today i have to work for about 4 hours, then run 4 easy miles to prepare for a 10 mile long run tomorrow, with a fast finish. So thanks for the extra inspiration!

Buying my preschooler new fall clothes! Then he and I are going to do some baking, after which I’ll do an easy 3 mile run to loosen up before my 10k race tomorrow. I worked six days in a row this week and tip almost 11 pm last night, so I am looking forward going to bed early. :)

Oh, and I like a blizzard with heath bar and Reese’s PB cups in it. Soo delicious.

Reply

Cappuccino Heath blizzard! The absolute best!!

Reply

I don’t think I’ve ever been to Dairy Queen. But if you asked what my cold stone topping was, it would be cheese cake ice cream with Heath bar chunks.

Supposed to do a run this morning but the little one had a rough night. We will see how the running goes.

I had my 16 mile long run this morning (my longest run ever), and am planning on eating and relaxing the rest of the day because I am going to an AC/DC concert tonight!!

I cannot remember the last time I had DQ, but I remember my favorite being the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard!

Reply

Congratulations on that run, Rachel!

Reply

Congrats on an amazing long run!!!
Today I am going to ride in a helicopter for the first time! So excited! Then The Works for dinner…. It is a gourmet burger restaurant with all the toppings/combos you could ever think of!!

Reply

Tip: emergency sprinkles in your purse…never without.

Another long run is in the books! Nicely done!

This weekend is going to be quiet and relaxing. At 37 weeks pregnant, there is not a whole lot I can do aside from go on walks and spend some time in the pool. My husband and I are going to be doing some last minute prep and cleaning; making sure everything is ready to go. So close.

Favorite DQ blizzard is the Chocolate Extreme with cookie dough added!!!

JANAE!!!! That PACE!!!! Yeahhhhh!!! Woohoo. You totally nailed it!! Excited for you.

I did my first treadmill “workout” Thursday, and was amazed how sore I was from running some quick paced intervals. I haven’t been good at finding time to run lately, and I need to get better about that. I’m hoping reading your blog, and checking in more frequently can help me stay more on track. Up for me today, a 3 mile x-training run: three miles, with a jogging stroller on our dirt/sandy roads. I can do hard things!
Thank you for sharing your journey!

VERY nice long run! The miles we fight for during training make us tougher for race day, right?! Great job!!

Today I’m unpacking and getting settled back into normal life after being on vacation all last week!

Usually Saturday is long run day, but I knew in advance we were going to be blessed with high winds. So the plan is to go to the gym for strength training and then go scope out a new course for tomorrow’s 20 miler. It will be in an area where there are no water stops, so I’ll be checking the terrain and deciding where to drop water. I would love to run tomorrow without a hydration belt.

My favorite blizzard is the pumpkin pie. Its a good thing they only carry it 2 months out of the year!

Reply

I used to get the peanut butter cup blizzard from DQ! I haven’t had it in years but I think they opened one in my area which means I should probably get there soon!

Hubs is running 22mi today so I’ll do my long run tomorrow. Today we are going to work on potty training my 26mo daughter. Wish us luck!

Enjoy your recovery run. You deserve it! Have a great weekend.

My first job was at Dairy Queen! I like my blizzard with a 50/50 ratio of stuff to icecream. I just ran the Reykjavik Marathon in Iceland and now it’s nap time! Then I think i’m going to need to get soft serve!

Reply

I wish I could do a Blizzard, but I have to tell you, I don’t know that I could think of where we even have a Dairy Queen around here. We have this placed called Cookout here, which is pretty good, and I always get a Reese’s and Cheesecake shake! Delicious, but also gives me a heinous stomachache!

Reply

I love DQ Blizzards….chocolate ice-cream with Reeses cups! Luckily there isn’t one near me because I’d probably go there daily.

You are rocking this marathon training…keep up the great work!

Reply

Wow! Great time on your run!

Just knocked out an 18-miler and looking forward to enjoying the day. Dog park … And then drinks with someone I actually met at the dog park. First dog park date :)

Favorite DQ Blizzard … I would always get the oreo one growing up but I’m dying to try the new peanut butter cookie dough one!

Have a great weekend!

Happy to say I killed my Ten Miler today. Nearly every mile was faster than the previous. And I trashed the scary hills. (Passing people on hills is evil, but I relished it today, sorry). I’m not running anywhere near as fast as our hostess but today was a very good morning.

I like cookie dough anything, but I’d skip a Blizzard in favor of a simple chocolate dipped cone.

Reply

Hoping to do a 7 or 8 miler today, and then clean the house. Trying to get ready for the semester to start. The best blizzard at DQ, hands down, is the Chocolate Extreme! Yum. :)

Saturday is usually my long-run day but I’m (still) out with injury: it’s been nearly 5 weeks now :( So I’m off to the gym (which I hate, it’s small, stuffy, dark and boring). I guess it helps build mental fortitude though.

How do you “hit your paces” during your training runs? I.e: do you just run until you achieve the 6:39 pace and try to stay on that pace (and speed up or slow down if you go over or under?) Or do you have a ‘feel’ for paces?

Reply

Great job on that long run, Janae! I just finished 12 and because my NJ humidity was a teensy bit lower, it wasn’t too bad. I actually ran my last mile faster than the previous 11. :) Time for a nap!

Reply

Great job on that long run! I’ve been trying to add fast finishes to the end of mine, and it’s super tough! Can’t imagine going at that pace..you’re going to crush that marathon. This morning I had a 5k race that went great! I helped my fiance get a new PR and he was super proud of himself and so was I! He came from couch to 5k and now he’s (almost) as obsessed as I am :)

Ten miler, my son playing football, pizza, and a bon fire later =great day!

I wore the same tank today on my 12 mile trail (and ohsohard) run!! Now I shall sit on my back porch in the sun and read. Oh wait, that’s my dream…I’ll do awesome stuff like grocery shopping and laundry instead.

I’m a purist – Reese’s Blizzards only, please.

Reply

14 mile long run – negative split and my last 5 were my fastest!

I’m pretty sure Heath Blizzard is my favorite, but I can be swayed by Reese’s.

Reply

Wow – I am so jealous of your speedy feet and legs! Great work with that long run! I am eating, relaxing and sun almost scorched me this morning so my goal is to stay out of it for the remainder of the day!

Reply

Janae! You must try Sushi Burrito! I personally haven’t been there – but I have heard GREAT things! Try it!

I love Oreo and Reese’s – I could probably mix them together and it would taste heavenly! haha!

Reply

I paced a long run group this morning and now we’re headed to see my grandparents. They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary!!!!
Oreo blizzard for the win!

Reply

I raced a 5k this morning and came in second female overall. Loved being back in the racing scene after having my baby : )

Reply

Wowza! Nice 18 miler kiddo! Amazing!

I think Brooke should carry her birthday sprinkles with her at all times.

Reply

Ummm… what about that code word?! Ugh…brb, going to go get sushi now!

Reply

PT this morning and off to the track today for my first official run!!!!! Hooray!!
I got cleared to run on the track instead of the treadmill.
Run the straights and walk the curves for 1 mile. I can’t wait!!!
You rocked that 18 miler!
I’m a huge chocolate chip cookie dough fan :)
Happy Saturday!!

Run 14 miles… Done, then just take the dogs to the dog park… done, now just hang out!

I cant do dairy, but there is the coconut ice cream that is to die for! I dont think you can even tell that it isnt the “real” stuff. the brand is coconut bliss, if you ever wana try it. the ginger cookie one is super good, they all are in my opinion!

I love DQ! What a fun day!

Reply

Nice job on your long run! I did a gorgeous seven miler this morning and have been enjoying the lovely weather all day.
I haven’t had Dairy Queen in FOREVER, but remember the cookie dough blast being mighty terrific.

Reply

I got my 8 mile long run in this morning and I worked for every mile too. My legs finally warmed up and accepted that they were running half way through but it was a struggle. I’m trying the Hanson’s training method and it’s no joke.

Got chafed something bad on my low back from my shorts – I’ll be SO happy when it’s fall and this humidity is gone!

Went to a bounce house place with son and hubby them some bowling :)

Reply

Favorite dq: vanilla w/ pb cups, light on the ice cream heavy on the pb cups.

Reply

Your paces are amazing! Today I had a 16 miler but at a9:40 pace!

Reply

Such amazingly awesome paces for your run! So impressed! What are you training for right now?

Reply

Your speed is amazing! I ran 19, it was an out and back to Snow Canyon State Park, which is really and up and down run. My favorite DQ treat is the Peanut Buster Parfait…it’s been a long time since I’ve had one, but now I need one.

Reply

Wow, you are speedy monster! :o) My long run yesterday was run / hike up the mountain in Livigno, Italy – 2 745 meters above sea level. I am telling you, you should come visit to Europe! :)

Reply

We went to “Street Feast” – an outdoor food and drink market which is super trendy in London. Very fun!

I had one of the worst runs of my life in the morning. I left it too late in the day, it was really hot, and there was no shade. I was a complete wimp about it, and spent a lot of time trying not to puke. Your run might have hurt, but man you make it look easy.

Reply

I went to a yoga event downtown!

Reply

I only ran 4 miles yesterday and was in bed by 8:30. I don’t remember the last time I’ve been awake past 10pm.

Reply

We hit up the pool, and then had a birthday party to go to. Then we ended up in the emergency dept for my Mr. 8. He is ok, just need to follow up with his doc

Reply

-Saturday plans: Work at UC, and try not to fall asleep before my 5 yo does.
-DQ Blizzard: Chocolate Extreme!!

Reply

I can’t even start thinking about DQ because I will definitely get a Blizzard way too often – we have one in the mall by me and I can’t even walk past it without wanting one haha!
