When your guy texts you in the morning seeing if you want to go get some hotcakes for the Brookers you go… pajamas made the whole experience that much more fun.
Pretty darn boring workouts today and tomorrow but this stuff will get me back to training like normal again next week.
“Mama, I think that I should get these for my birthday pretty please.”
We are to Cafe Rio as Saved By The Bell is to The Max.
Who knew that three aluminum tins of food could bring three women so much happiness.
Brooke considers her cousins her siblings.
Just NINE MORE DAYS until my sister gets to try out running again (she had back surgery a few months ago).
I came across my favorite candy in the world (chocolate covered cinnamon bears) but somehow resisted which doesn’t ever happen so I’ll probably have to go and get some tonight when I am missing Brooke.
Love Cristin and her favorite workout buddy in her Hungry tank!!
Our secret ingredients for cheese quesadillas at home—> garlic salt and pineapple salsa cooked in the inside with the cheese.
I found what I want Brooke’s donut birthday cake to look like… just add some apple fritters to the base.
I’m definitely going to be trying this out… the goal is to recover as quick as possible so that we can take on the next big workout right!? (from the August Women’s Running issue)

Cafe rio needs to open in Nashville!
Fave candy: dark chocolate
Magazines: runners world, O, Nashville Lifestyles, In Style…way too many lol!
Lunch: mâché rosettes with strawberries
I just finished reading Happily Ali After. Hilarious!
The Hungry Runner Girl
I’ll tell them to get on that Jenn:) Ummmm that lunch sounds amazing. Thanks for the recommendation… I love funny books!
Hollie
Stretching and foam rolling is definitely an important aspect of training. I can always feel when I red to do more or get a deep tissue massage.
I subscribe to women’s running, runners world and runners times! You know we share a love for donuts so I’m all about that cake!
Natalie
Favorite candy = gummy bears and Jolly Ranchers.
I need that donut cake.
You should read Let’s All Be Brave by Annie Downs. Seriously. It will change your life.
The Hungry Runner Girl
Thank you so much for that book recommendation… off to download it to my iPad. JOLLY RANCHERS!?!? I didn’t know that anyone loved those! haha jk!! I hope you are having an amazing day!
Kylie McGraw
I got Let’s All Be Brave in the mail and was finished reading it three hours later. SO GOOD.
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I love tart cherry juice! I don’t know if it works or not, but I don’t have any injuries and I use it after most runs!
Favorite candy…probably a milk chocolate Dove bar. Keep it simple. Lunch today came courtesy of the BBQ food truck in town. It was awesome. And I was stuffed!
I just finished reading Mrs. Kennedy and Me, it was written by Jackie Kennedy’s Secret Service Agent. It was a really beautiful look at the relationship she had with the person she spent probably more time with than her husband. So good. Or anything by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Brittnee
I’m with Brooke, I consider my cousins my siblings too! They are so sweet!
Jenny
Depending on what youre in the mood for, here are some books I love:
Harry Potter..duh
Children of the Promise series (churchy, chick-flick)
The giver quartet (easy read)
and right now i’m reading The Hiding Place and I’m liking it.
I could probably board you with a lot more, but I wont right now.
The Hungry Runner Girl
THANK YOU for the recommendations… you are the best!
Karin
You just changed my life by enlightening me to the fact that there are 3 sequels to The Giver! I read that book ages ago and always really liked it, and of course the movie came out a year or so ago but I had no idea. So Thank You random stranger! Going to download them now…
Jess
Fav candy: wow. Not sure I could pick just one! Anything dark chocolate I guess. Or Butterfinger when I really need a sugar rush in the middle of the school day (like 2-3 times per year, usually on concert days.)
No magazine subscriptions. Still sad that Everday Food got canceled because it was a real favorite!
Lunch today: Sandwich and watermelon inhaled while my choir campers ate their lunches. And more coffee. :)
“A Prayer for Owen Meany” by John Irving
Jen
Give The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins a shot- it’s really good!
The Hungry Runner Girl
AHHHH YES… I just read that one and it was SO good. Thanks Jen!
lisa
York Peppermint Patties!!
Read the Wayward Pines 3 book series!
The Hungry Runner Girl
I haven’t had a York in a very long time… you have me craving those now. Thanks for the recommendation! I can’t wait to check it out.

1)REESE’S PEANUT BUTTER CUPS!!! What are those chocolate covered bears, are they gummy inside??
2)Women’s Running
3) Beef & Lamb salad from Vert’s Kebaps (amazing!)
4) My book club choices have been a little depressing lately, right now I’m listening to Go Set a Watchman (Reese Witherspoon reads it!) Just don’t expect it to be like To Kill a Mockingbird.
The last books I really loved were:
Station Eleven, Night Film, THE ROSIE PROJECT (such a fun book!) & Girl on the Train
Kate
I totally finished off a bag of chocolate covered cinnamon gummy bears at work today and is it bad that it happened before 11am? So my fave!!
The Hungry Runner Girl
I like you a lot. We would be good friends.
Kate
Well when you make it to Indiana for a race we can watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette, eat chocolate covered cinnamon gummy bears, and you can take my pup for a run :)

Amy @ They May Be Light
I love quesadillas, I put a tiny pinch of taco seasoning, salsa, chicken, corn and black beans in mine. Delicious.
I am envious of your workouts, but I haven’t done the race to justify them! My waistline and my pants are at war right now. I need to get myself motivated and back on track!
Susan
My favorite candy is coffee nips! I know–kind of random.
I don’t subscribe to any magazines but used to subscribe to all the magazines!
My lunch was a burrito + baby carrots.
Michelle G
1. anything chocolate!!!
2. Women’s Running and Redbook
3. Chicken nuggets and mac and cheese (not good)
4. I am loving the Outlander series
Megan D
I am very impressed with your ability to pass on those bears. Chocolate cinnamon bears, peanut m&ms, frozen junior mints…yaaa there is not way I can pick just one.
Did you get a pancake breakfast too? Ross would be so jealous. He loves the breakfast platter. I’m not gonna lie, I like a good sausage and egg sandwich on an english muffin.
I subscribe to none, because I’m lame. But Ross subscribes to Popular Mechanics and some Civil Engineering magazine, cause he’s a dork.
Leftovers (red lentil and coconut curry soup)
Of course Jim Gaffigan’s books are an easy and fun read. One of my favorite books of all times is These is my Words by Nancy Turner.
The MAX!!! Bahaha. You are Kelly Kapowski. I think Megan would be Lisa (since she is a fashionista/shopaholic) can I be Jesse? I’m off to go find me some caffeine pills. #123Stretch #PutYourMindToIt #GoForIt #GetDownAndBreakASweat #RockAndRollYouAintSeenNothingYet

You are definitely Jesse… especially with her post Saved by the Bell work;)

I just had a tart cherry and almond butter sandwich for lunch and it was delicious.
Kelly
I’ve read so many good books lately (have the summer off as a teacher;) The Nightingale, Big Little Lies, The Boston Girl, and All the Light We Cannot See. You can’t go wrong with any of them :)
Courtney
Just curious how long after you began dating your guy did you introduce him to Brooke?
The Hungry Runner Girl
Great question Courtney! Usually I wait a few months and a lot of times Brooke never meets the person I am dating. This guy and I have been friends for a while now so she had met him a bunch at different things so it was a very easy transition for her having him around a bunch! Hope you are having a great day!
Brynn
Chocolate covered cinnamon bears? Ok, I need to give that a whirl! Today I had an Asian salad that was delicious!
Abby
A few books: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, I could go on and on. Kelly (above) had some great suggestions!
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
Mmmm, chocolate covered cinnamon bears. My husband hates them, but I love em. More for me!!!! My favorite road trip candy are tootsie pops because I can make them last forever!

Sabrina Alexandra
Favorite candy is M&M’s.
Lunch today was soup and sandwich from Panera Bread!
I’m so glad your sis is feeling better and ready to run! She looks great!
Caroline
Im totally addicted to Trader Joes espresso pillows. And its also quite difficult to pass up peppermint patties.
I seriously thought I was the only person who still subscribes to magazines!!! I currently get Runner’s World, InStyle, and Shape.
Your Cafe Rio salads and that quesadilla have my tummy growling and I just ate!
Lunch for me was spinach and cilantro topped with cucumber, tomato, sweet chili tofu, grilled veggies and hummus.
Have you read Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver?
chiara
“Freedom” by Jonathan Frenzen, or any book by Nick Hornby.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Good call on the cherry juice! I make a killer cherry smoothie that I make weekly every summer. Recipe here -> http://skinnyfitalicious.com/greek-cherry-chia-smoothie-big-news/
The Hungry Runner Girl
That looks amazing!!! Thanks Megan!
leeann
You can add beet juice into your training too ;)
Scooter
I just started drinking beet juice before important runs … it seems to work but of course it’s hard to tell. It does taste like dirt though IMO!
Dee
Cherry Active Concentrate is the bomb. I completely messed up my foot last year and my doctor suggested it to me in between xrays, anti-inflammatory etc. Any flare-ups since I’ve sorted out with cherry active alone. Apparently it’s an anti inflammatory and aids the break down uric acid crystals that cause swelling and unbearable pain sometimes.
He also told me to eat more root vegetables and drink more coffee so every time I see my mother she makes me turnip and potato gratin and takes me for a latte ;-) Can’t say I’ve noticed them having the same effect!
Kris
Hi! I would love to hear more about the cherry active that helps you recover so well! Where do you buy it? How much do you drink…with one meal or within a day or week? Thank you so much for your help!!
I am in the middle of training for the Chicago Marathon and could definitely use some help for my tired muscles!
Molly Rose
HOW have I still not tried chocolate cinny bears?! I need to get on this.
I read Yes Please by Amy Poehler a couple months ago. Please read it. So good, so funny, so many laughs and tears. I really think you’d like it ;)
Lauren
Station Eleven – such a good book and a fast read!
Stephanie
I just heard of this book yesterday- it was on the Another Mother Runner podcast this week (Summer reading recommendations) and it was getting rave reviews. Can’t wait to read it!

Wow, chocolate covered cinnamon bears?! Must not have come to Canada yet, haha!! They sound so amazing!! My all time favourite candy is absolutely Reese Cups – thre is nothing better than chocolate and peanut butter!! But my family loves the Costco bag of jujubes:)
I have read so many good books lately. Try The Rosie Project, Leaving Time (Jodi Picoult), Dark Places (Gillian Flynn), or Inside the O’Briens (Lisa Genova). All soooo good!!
Going to miss seeing pictures of Brooke for the next few days!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
Sweettarts!
I have no magazine subscriptions right now and I’m sort of sad. I used to read women’s health all the time.
Lunch was a a chicken roll from an Italian restaurant in little Italy. My favorite. Chicken cutlet and mozzarella in pizza dough with tomato sauce to dip it in.
Alicia
I love anything chocolate! Although Reese’s pieces are definitely a favorite!
Your lunches always look so good! I definitely need to try some of your salad combinations.
I eat a salad for lunch most days. Today’s was romaine lettuce with onion, fresh tomatoes, chicken strips (frozen from Costco- all you have to do is microwave them, so easy), and some lemon cranberry quinoa salad that I had leftover.
For books: the glass castle by Jeanette walls, big little lies or the husbands secret
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
I need a cafe Rio in jersey. Love the donut cake!! Favorite candy is definitely Starburst jellybeans!!!
Shelly
I read a lot but my favorite book still is Unbroken…I read it a couple of years ago and it’s still the best book I’ve ever read. A story abt the amazing human spirit. So inspirational :)

My favorite candies are hershey’s toffee and almond nuggets :) SO good! too good ;) For lunch I had Sonic and it was yummy! I haven’t read a book lately, but last summer I read The Help and really enjoyed it :)
Lyndsey
Read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. One of my favorites. Also, The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton might be my most favorite ever. Takes about halfway into it to get really intense but then you won’t be able to put it down. Such an amazing story. Read it. Now. ?
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
I want to try Cafe Rio! It’s seriously on my bucket list!!
Marissa @ Run Riss Run
My absolute fav candy is hot tamales but even more so if it’s mixed in with hot popcorn!
I’m a teacher and my librarian passes along the older Runner’s World ;)
Lunch today was super boring because we were in the middle of a huge road trip along the west coast. We’re about 10 minutes away from home!!
I just finished Wild, and The Orphan Train. They were both great.
Megan
Hey! I used to blog and read blogs all the time and now just check in on you and one or two others : ) I wanted to comment just to say that A) Brooke is still so so adorable B) I am beyond excited that you have found a boy worth semi name dropping in your posts – I split from a guy I was dating for 4 years a little over a year ago and ended up dating / falling in love / buying a house / getting engaged to some one I have been great friends with since I was a kid, when things with my ex ended I was definitely apprehensive about finding someone new. In the end everything really does happy for a reason and we all end up exactly where we are supposed to be, I hope he is something special and treats you like the badass biatch that you are C) Great job in your race last weekend, it is about time to update your 1/2 marathon PR in your side bar! Ciao!
Leah
Eat and Run by Scott Jurek

Favorite candy: Sour Patch Kids! Extreme sour or watermelon flavored are the bomb.
I don’t subscribe to magazines but I travel a lot for work and always grab some for long flights: Runner’s World … Self … Shape … Glamour … Health. I feel like every magazine writes about the exact same thing but always a fun way to kill time :)
kristin | W [H] A T C H
i’ve started making a “cocktail” every day when i get home after work — tart cherry juice, seltzer and a slice of lime if i’m feeling fancy.
Monika
Favorite candy: I’m not a big candy person. Probably Twix? Oh actually…those mini Cadbury eggs from Target with the candy shell…yes. In milk chocolate AND white chocolate.
Magazines: Clean Eating. Lots of healthy recipes!
Lunch: probably a salad from Chipotle since I did not have time to pack a sandwich for work this morning.
Books: I am currently reading What Alice Forgot which is pretty good. I can’t remember if you ever read Gone Girl but that’s amazing as well as her two other books. And The Husband’s Secret. And The Girl on the Train.
Angela @ Witty Aspirations
I love the top you are wearing in your picture for lunch! Super cute!
Favorite Candy: dark chocolate Milky Way and gummy candy like the gummy strawberries, grapefruit, etc.

Mmm I haven’t been to Cafe Rio in a while and now I totally want some!
Maria Weber
Just an FYI, I am a biker (road cycling not Harley!) and not a runner anymore because I’ve developed arthritis in various joints but most recently in my feet. :-( I have been drinking Tart Cherry Juice for it’s anti inflammatory properties. I read (? Somewhere) that it has one of the highest levels of antioxidants that you can find. I also take fish oil supplements. Finally, and you won’t like this one, I have been trying a no Sugar, no wheat diet ! I know! Horrors! But that is suppose to help with decreasing the inflammatory process in the body. Now I am almost 3 decades older than you, but still very very active and hope to remain so as time moves forward.
Jess
I just finished “100 Marathons” by Jeff Horowitz. Very quick read but a great memoir of some of his favorite and most challenging races!
Laura
I just read Me Before You by: Jojo Moyes! IT was really good but semi-sad! Still worth the read! The author is releasing a sequel at the end of September this year! The next book I am reading is “All the Light We Cannot See” – I’ve heard its so good!!!
Becky
I didn’t hear there would be a sequel! Thanks. I will definitely be reading it! Me Before You was a fantastic book!
the silent assassin
So my coach (runemz) did not start me off by doing any running when we started my (current) training for JJ100. (before I laced up my sneaks) My first workout was to finish this book “Mind Gym”, by Gary Mack #lifechanger #gamechanger
Caitlyn @ Candid Cerebrations
I’m definitely a firm believer in the tart cherry juice. I hope it helps you too.
Lew
Wow. You’re baby nephew looks a lot like his big brother in that second picture. Cafe aRio sounds yummy.
Laureen @peachylau
Your salads always look the best!
I use turmeric as an anti-inflammatory supplement.
