Post-Race Celebrating.

Okay, still working on my race recap but I will have it up tomorrow morning.  I do have for you what our post-race festivities looked like yesterday…

A quick shower and trip to the gas station for my favorite post-race treat—>  soda.  It is my way to celebrate a good race.   I am pretty sure I thought about the below soda non-stop for the last two miles of the race.

We made our way up to Sundance to spend the morning at one of our friend’s cabins.

IMG 5821

The cabin is right next to a river and tucked away in a million trees… it was beyond peaceful.

We had cheesy eggs, pancakes and bacon for breakfast.  Excellent recovery fuel if you ask me.  But probably don’t ask me because I am not a nutritionist.

IMG 5813

After we got home we took a long nap (3 a.m. wake-up call for me and 6:30 a.m. wake-up call for Brooke) and then Brooke took another nap at dinner.  Sometimes it is just way too hard to wait for food to get to the table.

IMG 5839

I skip out on salads for a few days leading up to a race so I always crave one afterwards.  My cobb salad hit the spot.

IMG 5841

We saw Mission Impossible and it was beyond amazing.  I loved every second.

Also, does Tom Cruise ever age?  I think not.

We went to Waffle Love for an 11:00 pm treat to share because we clearly needed to do some more post-race celebrating.   Fried ice-cream on top of a cinnamon sugar waffle.

Also, Brooke partied pretty hard right after the race in the big jump house that they had at the track.  She was in heaven and I am sure she will want me to do this half-marathon every year now.

After a race or long run I crave salt. So really about anything that has salt sounds good to me. I also usually do chocolate milk and a banana at some point shortly after the race or long run too. I have a long run this morning since I couldn’t do it yesterday. Then lots of rest!

Congrats on a brilliant race, your dedication and sacrifice is paying off!

Tom Cruise was just in Nashville and he still looks so good!
Today’s plans: gym, breakfast with the hubs, church, and then errands and to-do lists.

I’m from the UK… Fried Ice Cream!? Mind blown….

It’s my Moms birthday next weekend. She’s here in AZ with me helping me recover from the car accident. I want to do something nice for her. It’s probably been 10-15 years since we’ve been together on her birthday. Ideas??? Congrats again on the race!

Congrats on an AMAZING race yesterday!! My favorite post-race treat is definitely froyo. A HUGE thing of it. I didn’t race today, but I’m still getting froyo. It’s a Sunday tradition. :) Enjoy some rest today!

Reply

That fried ice cream looks awesome! I usually end up at The Cheesecake Factory for dinner after a race but sometimes, nothing even appeals to me much which is disappointing because in my head, I want a nice slice of fudge cake after a race!

Reply

Congrats on the race! Way to go! I’m turning the big 3-0 this month ?

Reply

Congrats! I had a salad after my race yesterday too!

Reply

Congrats on such an awesome race, and glad you had a good day celebrating! Usually after a race I like to have a burger and fries, with a beer, and then lay on the couch all day:)

Reply

Bacon and eggs sounds like the perfect post-race meal to me! That’s what I eat after a race because I want salt and protein after so many days of eating carbs. Congrats again on your awsome PR!

Reply

The fried ice cream sounds amazing. I haven’t had one of those in years.

My faveorite post race snack…sad but true that I haven’t ever thought of that. Next time I run a race that’s going to be a big deal. Probably some ice cream or Mexican food or something.

Today is my daughter’s 4th birthday! (I tried to make her one of those Princess cankes with the Barbie in the middle. It needs prayers that it will actually look and taste ok. I struggle with home made frosting every time). And then my birthday is at the end of the month.

I can’t wait to read your recap! Today we are hitting up a brewery for some beer and food.

Post race I usually crave something salty. We tend to get burgers and fries afterwards.

Reply

Winter races/Long runs = Hot chocolate
Summer races/Long runs = Froyo

And a big glass of red wine at dinner … Year round :)

Congrats on the great race!!!

That sounds like the perfect way to spend the day after an awesome PR race!!! Naps after a good race are one of the most satisfying things in the world!

August bday here! I turn 29 on Tuesday! :)

Congratulations on your race!! All of your hard work has clearly paid off :)
I have to work tonight, but there is a big festival going on about 100 feet away from my house, so I’ll wander around that all day in addition to doing my usual Sunday errands.
My favorite post race treat is usually a cheeseburger and fries, with ice cream or a milkshake. Though, that waffle sundae thing is looking pretty amazing!
Have a great Sunday and relax!

i have an August birthday!! Along with about 20 of my friends. Best month ever! I really enjoy your blog and all the fun insights into running and your life. Thanks, Janae!!

Reply

Can’t wait to hear about that incredible race of yours! Sounds like you really pushed it! Naps are the best- I had one today and I hadn’t even been racing haha :)
My fave post run treat is cereal and milk- hits the spot every time! And for a less healthy treat- ice cream! :) so good.

Reply

I’m pretty sure I don’t move on a couch for 24 hours following a race, haha!

I loved Mission Impossible and NO he does not age!!!! Also, I want a friend like Benji

Reply

Post race I always want blueberry pancakes and then i have to keep myself occupied until it’s an acceptable time to go to bed (I don’t like taking naps)
My baby girl is turning 2 this month and I’m so excited for her, and for another reason to eat cake!

I crave salty stuff! I sweat like a man! Guess that’s the reason for the salt craving! Plus I’m hungry for two days after!!

Completely unrelated to food, but….could you tell me where your leggings are from??

Thanks,,

Reply

Hey Jurlene! They are PRO Compression tights. I LOVE them. Get them:) Oh… I totally understand that salt craving!

Amazing time! Inspirational :)

Mission impossible was worth the hype! Best ever! Loved it! And loved running into you all there! So fun! And yes, I wonder if Tom Cruise is actually the bionic, un-aging man. :) wafe luv is perfect refueling! Way to recover right!!

Reply

Congrats, Janae! From the smile on your face, looks like you had a great race!

Your post-race soda craving = my post-race hottest cup of coffee craving! It takes my stomach a few hours to settle and then I crave a huge salad and protein.

On and fried ice cram is the best! We get it at our sushi restaurant.

Enjoy your day!

I did a 6 mile run this morning–the rest of the day I am working on some research and then in the evening we are going to my husband’s aunt’s house to celebrate his parents’ birthdays. His dad just turned 60 and his mom turns 60 on the 9th!

My favorite post-race treat in the summer is probably either a fudgsicle or some cold fruit like grapes or watermelon. In winter I want a hot chocolate and some comfort food like chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes. :)

Reply

I like to go for a cappuchino or something ‘fancier’ than my usual black coffee post-race as a little treat. I can sip on it while perusing shops :) (races are usually out of town so of course one must go shopping afterwards!). Then a big ‘ole salad filled with veggies, protein and fun fats like bacon and cheese. Later, before I leave, I always grab something sweet – whether it’s a cookie(s) or donut..s.

Congrats on your incredible race. I’m injured at the moment but gosh you are such an inspiration!

Reply

What kind of purse is that?! I’m looking for a small cross body one like that for an upcoming NOLA trip…but in a cognac brown/tan color. Thanks in advance! :)

Reply

Frozen grapes post race is amazing! And Chick-fil-A! Gotta have their lemonade.
My daughter Brook is turning 16 on the 16th this month! Time goes by way too fast!

Reply

Congratulations, again! I always feel so great after a race and even better when you do awesome! Btw, that last picture of Brooke is beautiful!

I am at work right now :( I have so much going on and to do at work I really could not stop by for an hour – more like two – and my office is across the street from my church so it is an easy stop after Mass. Now off to Trader Joes and then napping! I love a good brunch after a hard race! Or a good dinner after a marathon – I usually indulge and have something really good and not worry about how many calories/fat. My one meal I feel NO guilt over :) My grandpa has an August birthday and he is a pretty awsome dude so I like August birthday people :)

Reply

Congrats on an awesome race! My ultimate running goal is to someday be as fast as you! You are so speedy and I know you have that sub 3 this fall! Also your recovery outfit is really cute and comfy looking, where are the capris and shirt from if you dont mind my asking?

Reply

HEY REBECCA!! You’ve got this girl! The capris are PROCompression and the top was from Gap awhile back. I hope you have a fabulous day!

Reply

Favorite post race treat is a soda too! mmm… I had to get one after the race yesterday!

My husband has a birthday this month!

Reply

I need to finish cleaning up the apartment before my boyfriend gets home and makes it messy again heheh, and i TOTALLY get you on the soda!! We did a hike up Mt Baldy (crazy elevation etc) and the whole way down we were like “coca cola coca cola coca cola” just a mantra chant for each step hahaha

Reply

I am still so happy for you Janae! You killed it at your half marathon, and I am thrilled you got a PR. Also, I am about to go see Mission Impossible, I think, so I am really glad you said it was good!

Yesterday was my birthday. August 1st :) I turned 19!

Reply

Congrats! Can’t wait for the recap, the recovery looks like a ton of fun!
-Sunday plans, long run…10 miles!! Whoot Whoot!

I’m glad the race went well for you! That cabin looks so nice, so nice and peaceful after the stress of a race, I’m sure!

LOVE your shoes! Where can I get them?? Always get soda after a good race- my go to as soon as I am done as well! Have you done any trail 1/2’s yet? Just ran my third one yesterday- called The Legend. Awesome race and super steep hills! Congrats on a great finish!

Huge congrats Autumn on your 4rd trail 1/2… that is AWESOME! I have done one and I loved it but it was hard. Which shoes are you talking about?

Congrats on your race! I did my first ever 20 mile run today! I was tough (for many reasons) but I’m glad I was able to push through and get it done :)

Reply

My daughters birthday is August 12. She’s turning 18!! I feel so old!
Just curious – why do you skip salads a few days before a race?

Reply

Hey Cheryl!! AHHHH so exciting that your daughter is turning 18! I just try to avoid any fiber (veggies mainly) leading up to a race… I have found that when I have high fiber foods close to the race then I end up in the porta potty along the course:)

Reply

After our long run, we spent the day at Lake Lure, NC.
There is nothing like a cold fountain soda after a race, coke being my choice beverage?
I’m a July baby :-)

Reply

I like to have a nice cold beer after a long run or race. Today I went to see my grandmother. It made me heart full knowing she remembered me for a split second. She is suffering from Alzheimers.

Reply

My aunt has Alzheimers. I looked into her eyes this weekend at a family reunion and realized she had no idea who I was. It is a horrible disease.

Reply

Love post race refuelling, sounds like you did a brilliant job!

Reply

hahha brooke is excellent at refueling. bouncy houses can really take it out of you

Reply

What a fun day! That ice cream/waffle looks insane!

Reply

That cobb salad looks phenomenal! I’m headed to your recap post now!! :)

Reply

Becaus of this post, I immediately went and bought belgian waffles!!

Reply

I love soft serve! Especially if it has cocoa pebbles or Rice Krispies mixed in. I often eat it while I’m soaking in a tub. I take mustard baths after my long runs- have you ever tried that? I went to the National Mustard Museum (I LOVE CONDIMENTS!) and they had a historical section that talked about using mustard as medicine. It makes me sleep, so I take a great power nap after races and long runs, then I feel fabulous. Check it out! :)

Reply

Post race fuel… Pizza… And preferably a whole pizza all to myself. With jalapenos.

Reply

Looks like an awesome day!!

Also – TOTALLY agree with you about Tom Cruise. I said the exact same thing when I saw Mission Impossible!!!
