I have to wear sunglasses if it’s sunny, but I skip them on cloudy days.
I dodge the sprinklers! I don’t like running in wet clothes.
I haven’t purchased a fuel belt yet up I’m on the lookout for a good one.

Reply

Haha I love putting my legs up like that after a run!! I fully embrace sprinklers always. I use a spi belt and love it!

Reply

Is it really a question if you go thru the sprinklers in the summer or not?! Always YES!

Yes to sunglasses, can’t run without them! I use my spibelt and I love it. I love it more because it was free! :)

Your nephew is adorable!!

Reply

I usually run early in the morning, and I ALWAYS go for the sprinklers. :)

I can’t wear sunglasses when I run. I’ve tried. I’ve failed.

I NEED those granola bites like right now!!

Glad you’re feeling better! My foot started hurting from wearing flip flops this summer after a whole life time of no issues- must be a 29-year-old thing ;)

JUMP IN ALL THE SPRINKLERS!!!!

I wear sunglasses if it’s already sunny when I start my run- but it’s usually dark so I just wear a hat. I tried keeping my sunglasses on my head til the sun comes up- but they get to sweaty and I have nothing to dry them off with by then!

I use a fuel belt that I purchased at Marshall’s for $10 – it’s my favorite by far!

Reply

I agree…JUMP IN ALL THE SPRINKLERS!!! (All caps was sooo necessary here).
And then turn around and run through them AGAIN!

Reply

I got my belt at Marshalls too! I love it! The band is perfect so you don’t even notice it. This is the one I have… (it might be a slight variation) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A49U3FO/ref=s9_simh_gw_p200_d12_i5?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-7&pf_rd_r=18DB29FNJ5FGX0Z63CGS&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2090149182&pf_rd_i=desktop

But I have yours too- I got it at a race expo years ago and I love it but it’s too small for my current phone!

Reply

That’s a great brand too! I love finding awesome (and cheap) buys at TJMaxx and Marshalls:)

Reply

Sunglasses are a must! I love my Costa del Mars because they are prescription. My 15k trail run is next month and it will be my furthest distance to date. I am actually looking for a good belt that carries water bottles for that run myself.

Reply

I will always welcome getting wet (sprinklers or rained on) during a run–especially if I am not wearing my glasses! I run way before the sun rises so I never have to wear shades. A guy at my rec center runs in Tevas. I’m always like ‘huh’?!?

Reply

I don’t see many sprinklers on my normal routes, but I would embrace them 100%! I have recently starting wearing sunglasses during running and am wondering why I waited so long to do so! The only thing I don’t like is when you get super sweaty and they start to slide down your nose. :(

Reply

I always run thru sprinklers! Sunglasses are a must if it’s sunny….I can deal without them if it’s cloudy/overcast.

Next race is my first ultra this Sunday!! Really nervous but doing it with a bunch of friends, we’re just all hoping to finish. 50k or bust!

Reply

Haha I out my legs up like that at the gym and an old man asked me what I was doing. He thought I was so weird but then he did it too and proclaimed how cozy it was. Now I see him doing it before his workouts. I wanted to tell him it’s really best after a workout but don’t have the heart to!

Reply

I bought running sunglasses once and I lost them during a race and I’ve never bought a pair since. If it’s sunny I wear a hat. But maybe one day I’ll buy a pair! I love sprinklers! And I love putting my legs up like that. It’s the best.

Reply

That picture of you and Brooke by the stairs is too cute!

Reply

Uh, yes, I’m 100% about the sprinklers in the summer!

Reply

Sprinklers are the best and sunglasses are a must! Actually I prefer sunglasses and a hat. I have a Nathan belt that I found at a Marshalls for like $7 and it’s awesome!

I am actually vacationing in St. George and the heat/humidity right now is crazy but the views are well worth it!

Reply

Sprinklers – almost always run through them, sometimes I stop and wait for them or run through them twice. The only time I avoid them is in the early morning when it is already cool outside.

Sunglasses – a must if the sun is out.

Upcoming races – Timp Half 8/1, Nebo Half 9/5, and NYC Marathon 11/1.

Reply

My favorite fuel belt is the Flip Belt, it is the only one that stays where I want it and doesn’t bounce.

Reply

Maybe I should start sending you healthy snack snaps instead of all my naught treat ones….but don’t hold your breath.

I thought the dr said no running for your sister ever, so this makes me so so happy for her. Probably not as happy as she is though ;)

I am so glad your runs are back and pain free. I think I might have to come down to St George to cheer you on for your marathon. Hello girls trip?! ( we can still make it relaxing, plus I could watch Brooke during your race…think about it…)

Reply

I would definitely run through sprinklers if I came across them on a run. They were my favorite summer thing as a kid!
My next race is part of a duathlon in a few weeks. I’m running a 10K, then after my uncle bikes 22 miles I’m running/crawling 3 miles up a mountain. Then on October 17th I’m running my first MARATHON!

Reply

Yes to sprinklers! I love a quick cool down.

I now wear sunglasses on every run, unless it is raining. I ran on Mothers Day and it was overcast and really humid and 2 miles into my run the sun came out (and three of my friends drove by while I was running uphill in the glaring sun) and I will NEVER make the mistake again. I was so miserable!

That is great that your sister can start running again soon. I hope her first run feels fantastic!

Reply

I definitely embrace sprinklers when I am running in the heat. They were running on part of the course of my last PR and I went out of my way to run in them because it was so warm! Also, I HAVE to have my sunglasses when running outside. Otherwise I squint too much and end up with a headache! Eeekkk!

Reply

Glad to hear your sister can hopefully return to running next month! I don’t need sunglasses to run & have never ran with them before.. Might have to try some out!

Reply

Janae, I must tell you. I just tried my first Swedish fish. I think I’m hooked. They are so good. Thank you for talking about them on the blog. To think what I’ve been missing.

Reply

Sprinklers are a runner’s dream in the summer. I love it when people have sprinklers on no matter what time of day I’m running.

I use RooSport and love it.

Reply

I’m so bummed, my Hungry Running tank top got lost in the mail.. Guess it’s a long way to Alaska.. hoping they can figure it out and get me a new one in the mail soon.. :)

Reply

A marathon in crocs?! Truthfully, I have never owned a pair of crocs myself, but I did try them on once and I found them to be rather uncomfortable. I cannot imagine walking in them, let alone running or 26.2 miles!

Reply

It depends. When I’m out in the early morning and it’s not hot, I’ll avoid them. but they’re the best thing on the planet when it’s hot out! Always ALWAYS have sunglasses!

Reply

I run early in the morning and love sprinklers!!!
I don’t wear sunglasses but I should.
Next race is just for fun: a 22 mile trail race with friends

Reply

I neeeed a fuel belt because right now I cram everything in my sports bra and it’s getting a little crowded in there.

Reply

No fuel belts, no sunglasses, and no sprinklers for me. I literally just carry the minimal and do the minimal on a run. lol.
I don’t have a race for a while.. kind of sad.

Reply

Flip belt. I got one two years ago and I am hooked. Just ordered a second.

Reply

Completely agree but I never see other people at races with them. It feels like you’re not wearing one at all!

Reply

On really hot days I love running through the sprinklers! My clothes will be wet anyway from all the sweat, so at least it cools me off a bit.
I wear sunglasses all summer- mostly to keep the bugs out of my eyes!
And I use a flipbelt most of the time to hold my phone while I run.

Reply

I usually embrace the sprinklers. A quick splash is like a quick pick me up.
As slow as I am, aside from music, I run like an elite runner. I don’t like fanny packs and such. I feel it moves too much.
I have a 5k coming up in NYC that I will have to do and then leave right away. Its not usually my style but it has to get done.
Sunglasses tend to slip although for health reasons I should try to figure it out.

Reply

Always where sunglasses! And tons of sunscreen…its kind of annoying but worth it. I am running the Timp half. My last and next long run are down emmigration canyon. Love those downhills.

Reply

Dodge sprinklers like my lif depends on it…. always.

Reply

Sprinklers sounds like a fun treat! I can’t run without my sunglasses. My favorite hydration pack is from orange mud. It’s super light and has room for everything!

Reply

Sunglasses? YES, otherwise I look confused during my entire run from squinting so much. My favorite fuel belt is the FlipBelt – stays put which never happens with other belts on me for some reason. My next race is Chicago Marathon, 11 weeks! By the way, Crocs while running? Really?

Reply

I dodge sprinklers because I don’t want wet feet!! It’s a psychological fear of blisters :) I use the Nathan fuel belt, it fits my phone and few gels. No races next month- taking some time off racing for August.

Reply

I intentionally choose routes with sprinklers if I can. It helps to cool off on a long run.

I wear hat usually (good to soak in those sprinklers). I can’t wear sunglasses at the asme time. My narrow head isn’t designed for the combo.

I have a Nathan fuel/hydration belt. I bought replacement bottles that have the squeeze top instead of the pull open option and I like it.

I have two races upcoming. In August is a half marathon trail run and in September is my first marathon.

Those cheeks are beautiful, btw.

Reply

Sprinklers are the best part of a run! I’ve even gone through them when riding my bike :)

Sunglasses are a necessity even when the sun isn’t out. Bug + eye = HURT!

I haven’t tried any fuel belts out at all but would like to get one for the 1/2 marathon I have coming up in September. It’s my first 1/2 and I can’t wait! I have a love/hate relationship with the training but my boyfriend is pretty good at pushing me when I need it. Any walk breaks are timed and if I don’t run when it’s over, he grabs my hand and pulls me haha!

Looking forward to Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Dublin on August 2nd :)

Reply

always run through the sprinklers.
I use a SpiBelt.
And I always wear sunglasses even if it’s just to keep the wind or bugs out of my eyes on a cloudy day =)

Reply

FlipBelt is my favorite ever fuel belt. I now have one in 3 colors :) It never moves and can hold a gazillion things since its an open tube all the way around!

Reply

I dodge the sprinklers- I don’t like to get wet! (event though I’m already sweaty, which I appreciate makes no sense). Whenever I run outside I need to wear sunglasses- hot, cold, sunny, or cloudy. Otherwise my eyes tear up, which is super annoying.

Reply

i only wear sunglasses when my runs are longer, and extend into the mid-morning or later. usually i’m done by the time the sun is full on, so a hat tends to be sufficient.

yay for your sister!!! :D

Reply

Definitely run through sprinklers!!
I like to run with a hat more than sunglasses ands wish I had one on for my run this morning!
I really like my SPI Belt!

Reply

I cannot believe that man runs in Crocs. My mind is blown. I’m trying to imagine the squeaky sound they would make when the sweat drips down into them. Regardless, that’s crazy awesome!!

Reply

Brooke totally reminds me of my girls when they were little!

I seek out sprinklers and slow down when running through them. I live in HOT-lanta and it lives up to the name in the summer!

Sunglasses are a MUST for running and pretty much any time I’m outside. I love Oakleys the most but I also have an old random pair I got in a race bag at the HyVee triathlon 5+ years ago and I still use them sometimes. They are red and say HyVee on them but they wrap around nicely.

My next race isn’t till November – the Savannah R&R half. I’ve been wanting to do a R&R race forever so am very excited!

I have a “shiny fanny pack” that I got at a race expo – it’s not a “brand” that I know of but there was a booth and they had a lot of fun patterns. It is somewhat expandable so works well and there are loops for Gu as well. My kids make fun of it but I love it!

Reply

“shiney” not “shiny” – I need more coffee :)

During the week I run before work at 5:00 am. I look for sprinklers! On the weekend I try to start no later than 6:00. It’s just too hot. Cannot wear sunglasses while I run. I sweat too much so I wear a visor or hat.

Reply

I used to love standing in front of a sprinkler after s hot run .. until my hubby told me that a lot of our neighbors use recycled water. Ha! And Ew!
I can’t do sunglasses, but I never leave home without a headsweats hat!
I am still healing from an adductor strain, but have been training my butt off on the bike and rower. I hope it holds my endurance at least a little, so I can run my marathon on 10/11. My PT says I can try a mile on the treadmill during my session on Fri and see how my leg feels. Fingers crossed for a pain-free run! I can’t wait to get back to training!!

Reply

Never wear sunglasses but always wear a hat! I need to find some good sunglasses for running, it’s on my list!

Always hit the sprinklers if I’m super hot!

Reply

Sunglasses are a must, must!

I have a flipbelt that I like although I’ve misplaced it last week :(

Reply

I definitely wear sunglasses while running and I dream of sprinklers!! No one around here uses sprinklers much but on the rare occasion that I see one – I’m running through it!!

Reply

I jump in the sprinklers walking the dog and running; I’ve also been known to use the kid one in my local park after a long run.

I need my sunglasses. I didn’t use them for an overcast windy half-marathon near the beach. I very quickly learned why I should have worn them…

I have a spibelt but recently got a Bondi belt. Love the material, I actually forget I have it on.

How can anyone run in Crocs?

Reply

No offense but 6/2 is three…and math during running isn’t that hard…especially when you are doing an out and back–I normally figure out the math before I leave. Stick to your training plan, don’t add junk miles and maybe you won’t get injured.

Reply

-I dodge them, I HATE wet socks/shoes!!
-I don’t wear sunglasses.
-I have a faux fanny pack :)

Reply

DEF embrace the sprinklers… they feel so good when you’re hot! I don’t really wear sunglasses when running, just walking. Wearing them kinda makes me feel like I’m going to trip?! But I probably SHOULD wear them because one time I was running I got a huge fly in my eye and my eye was red for like a week. Ugh.

Reply

Brooke is so cute! Best of luck to your sister! I hope things go well for her when she starts running again :)

Reply

Sunglasses are a must when it is sunny.
Definitely embrace the sprinklers!
I have a 5k in august and a 10k in septmember on the way to my 1/2 marathon in october.
I have an Amphipod RunLite Airstretch 2+ and i like it. Don’t know if i love it but its getting the job done for now.

Reply

I usually dodge the sprinklers bc it is usually septic water so I think it is gross and I am afraid of amoeba (crazy, I know) . . . I do not wear sunglasses but cannot run without a hat. I use SPI belt – my favorite and I have tried others :)

Reply

Yeah, no…I get wet enough from being sweaty. I’m dodging those sprinklers.

Now that I’m no longer annoyed by them, sunglasses are a must when running.

And, my favorite fuel belt is an off-brand one I received for Christmas last year. My new phone doesn’t fit so I had to upgrade to a new belt (a Flipbelt) that I am having a hard time getting used to.

Reply

If it’s really hot, I’m in love the with the sprinklers…otherwise, I dodge them!

I usually wear a hat instead of sunglasses to protect my face as well!

Brooke is sooooo cute!!!!

Reply

If I’m really hot I’ll run through the sprinklers but sometimes I get weirded out ’cause you can’t tell if they’re using a plant food/miracle grow type thing attached to the hose.

Reply

Fingers crossed for your sister’s full recovery!
