Happy Thursday everyone! I hope your day is off to a great start. We are pretty happy over here because I think I we figured out how to help my feet out. Running pain-free Janae = a very happy Janae and Brooke.
Last week when my feet started hurting I ordered a new pair of running shoes in hopes that they would help. I decided I needed something with a little bit more arch support and stability. They arrived at my parents’ house yesterday and my mom brought them right over. I slipped the PureCadence (ideal for mild pronation which I think I need!) on and they felt great.
At around the same time I received an email from a reader with the title, ‘Foot for Thought.’
“I notice your footwear during the day (again, you’ve probably thought this or been advised so just bear with me and let me do my mama bear thing for you for a teensy bit). When I wear sandals/birkenstock types or certain flip flops my foot goes all sorts of crazy. I am amazed at how one day can rock my foot to pain. So, I am just wondering if a few days of wearing cushier shoes would help? “
She nailed it. During the summer all I wear are flip flops, Birkenstocks and sandals with ZERO support or cushioning. Of course my feet are going to hurt after doing a ton of hard workouts (hill work especially) when I throw on a pair of flip flops and wear those around for the rest of the day. A lot of times when something is hurting I just focus on what is causing the problem right before, during and right after my run… I forget that the entire rest of the day affects my body/running/injuries too.
What I’m going to do now—> wear supportive shoes throughout the day. I think I am going to play around a bit with arch support in my shoes during my runs too.
These are the type of shoes that I wear each day during the summer. No cushioning + no support + wearing them all day long after hard runs/easy runs/long runs—> sad feet.
I am really hoping this is what is causing the problems because it is an easy fix. So far, so good. Things are already feeling better.
Things felt good enough to get in a three mile run at the track while Brooke went around on her scooter. 3 miles @ 8:12 pace. Slowly but surely I’ll get back to where I was a few weeks ago.
Did some sit-ups, push-ups and planks before we hit the road. I’m very grateful that Brooke likes to be at the track as much as I do.
Let’s rewind to last night for a bit.
I had a date to Oteo which is definitely one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in all of Utah. We started off with tortillas dipped into queso and then I had the avocado and beef tacos. The flavors in each bite—> perfection.
For dessert we had one of their kronuts which is a must if you go to Oteo. PS if you are wondering why I suddenly have a good food pic on my blog it is because I got this one off of the internet… it isn’t mine but this is a picture of what the kronut looks like.
After dinner we hit up the bowling alley. I got over 100 in both games. That has never happened in my life. Maybe I need to zone in more on my bowling skills.
Kate is looking awesome in her Hungry Runner Girl Shirt!!! She is going to rock her first marathon and I want her dog.
Also, who has been following along with the Alberto allegations?? Thoughts???
Do your feet have more problems during the summer months due to wearing sandals/flip-flops?!
What running shoes are you currently wearing? Are you loving them?
Ever tried a kronut? Favorite dessert from a restaurant?
How was your run today?
