Friday Favorites!!!

Let’s talk about a few of my favorite Friday things!

-All I can think about for the last 3 miles of every summer run is diving into a bowl of watermelon.  Nothing tastes better than watermelon after a run (in my opinion and I am sure Monica would agree with me).  It’s a good thing that my parents’ fridge is always stocked with this red heaven.

-We plow through it.

IMG 2561

-My current repeat song as I drive around town—>  Flashlight.  I’m obsessed.

IMG 5315

-Remember when running socks used to be boring and usually just one solid color?  It’s strange how happy patterned/bright/unique running socks make me.

IMG 5314

-I love this instagram account.  Her healthy meals make me drool.  I must make this sweet potato stat.

IMG 5295 1

-Brooke insists on talking to my sister every time that she calls me.

IMG 5312

-Bread + almond butter + all of the blueberries in your fridge.

IMG 5316

-I have a race in 8 days!!!!! I feel like I haven’t done a race in ages (okay, it’s only been like 1.5 months but still…) and so I am pretty darn stoked for this.

Screen Shot 2015 07 23 at 10 37 35 PM

-It is going to be a FAST ONE!  It will be great training for some of the downhill portions in my upcoming marathon.

IMG 5311

-Brooke rocked her 5 meter repeats at the indoor track last night.

IMG 5319

-Frozen vegetables make great ice packs for your knees when the sidewalk jumps up at you while you are running causing you to fall.

IMG 5310

-She calls Curly her best friend.

IMG 5329

-We went to dinner with my sister and her family last night.   Cucumbers add an extra 2 inches to the diameter of your salad plate circumference. Spinach and artichoke dip with garlic bread… almost too good.

PicMonkey Colla1e

-It is a big state holiday over here today and so that means there will be fireworks, good food and probably a trip to Park City.  Feel free to come on over and celebrate!

I am obsessed with watermelon right now too! I always crave it right after I run. I’ve never thought about putting blueberries on toast like that… I’m going to have to give that a try! That is very exciting that your race is next weekend!! Can’t wait to see how you do.

Reply

I’m going for a long run and taking the pups to the dog park.

My last race was last weekend and my next race is in September. I’m also doing a half!

My favorite brand of socks is DryMax.

Reply

Frozen vegetables are always in my freezer for the sidewalk attacks! Happy weekend!

Reply

My last race was in March, and almost all the courses in Florida are pretty flat so I can think of one that’s faster than the other.

I am in love with under armour speed form socks, they are insane.

Reply

Watermelon is the perfect summer snack.!! Love it

I love the elevation in that course, definitely a fast one, are you going to race it and try to PR.? My last race was in May, and next one will be in October. I definitely don’t race that often.

Reply

Flashlight is such a good song! Makes me want to watch Pitch Perfect 2 again!

Last race I did was the Utah Valley Marathon and next is the Twin Cities Marathon! My PR for a marathon is on the Seattle course. I love it!

Have a great weekend!!

Reply

Amen on the watermelon and frozen veggie packs :). Happy weekend!!!

Reply

I really love my lululemon running socks. Wish I didn’t, but I just keep reaching for them for the long runs! Have a great weekend :)

Reply

I wrote a Friday favorites post today, too! I put the vogue video of Nicole kidmans farmhouse. It’s gorgeous!!!
Last race: north fork 50
Next race: Cumberland plateau stage race
Swiftwicks makes the best socks!
That spinach dip looks amazing!!!

Reply

Last race was the Pensacola Marathon the day after my wedding (Nov. 2014) and next race is first one I can sign up for post baby!

Reply

Ugh your dinner looks too too good. There’s no where good near me with a salad bar!! I’ve been dying to go to one but refuse to spend a billion dollars at the grocery store, and my husband is NOT a salad person so restaurants are usually out.. le sigh.

Reply

Next race is in September – two halfs to tune up for NYCM! Fastest course had to be Chicago because it was PANCAKE flat. Best running socks = balega! : ) Happy Friday!

Reply

Friday favorite: my fridge is full of pineapple right now, and I am pretty pumped about eating it later today. Plus, it’s Friday, which is ALWAYS a positive.

The last race I did, sadly, was more than a year ago. Stupid plantar fasciitis. BUT, I am training for some upcoming races this fall, and I can’t wait to get back on the starting line!!

I want that spinach dip. Like now.

Reply

My next race is on October 11, the Chicago marathon! Although I’m trying to squeeze another half in before that. My favorite brand of running sock isn’t anything fancy – champion from target! That are so cozy i can’t help it!

Reply

My next race is the Chilly Half Marathon in November… thinking I should sign up for at least a 5k before then, haven’t raced much this year! I’ve been ditching my Garmin and building my running base without paying attention to pace in the heat & humidity of the summer. Going to start training for real in August.

Blueberries are my current post-run treat – they’re not as cold or hydrating as watermelon, but I’m up in Maine right now and can buy them at a farm stand a few miles away… they’re UNBELIEVABLE!

Have fun doing a net downhill race! It’s hilly where I live so I’m always running up and down. Would love to try a downhill course, but secretly suspect my knees would not be as enthusiastic as my lungs!

Reply

My last race was in June, and I have one coming up in September. It’s too hot to race in the summer!

All of my races have been pretty hilly. I sure know how to pick them!

Right now, Balegas are my favorite running socks. I save them for my longer runs, but I should probably just buy more pairs.

Reply

I’m partial to post-run grapes or cherries myself. Maybe because I’m too lazy to chop up a watermelon.

Reply

i love that you live close to family. I wish I did, especially for London’s sake.

My shoes are Mizuno Wave Riders (never tried anything else)

Last race was Seatile Rock N Roll 1/2 and my next is Lululemon Seawheeze in 3 weeks!!

Have a great day! (Now I want Watermelon!!)

Reply

I’ve been loving watermelon this summer too! We’ve also been getting loads of strawberries every week at Costco. So good!

Even though they are super expensive, I LOVE lululemon running socks!

Reply

I haven’t run a race since the 4th of July. So 3 weeks. Lol. But it feels longer. I have a half in September and two halves in October. Then NYC marathon 11/1.
Friday favorite: it’s going to be this evening when I join my friend to share her first bottle of sparkling wine as part of her membership to a vineyard in Napa. :)

Reply

Happy Friday! Watermelon is the absolute best! I could go for some after ever run and workout.

My last race was on my birthday (june 28) in central park when I was visiting! I took July off of racing, so I have some coming up in August. I’m excited to start back in! Can’t wait to hear how that downhill race goes…sounds tough to me!

Reply

I really love my Smartwool running socks. No blisters, so comfy, and they have amazing wicking!
My last race was in April, unless you count a virtual race in July, and my next race is in October.
Have a wonderful Friday!

Reply

Iced coffee is my best friend today. It’s supposed to be in the triple digits today. :-( I’ve only done two 5k’s, but my first one was my fastest, because I did it alone. My second one, I stayed back with my sister, so it took a bit longer, but was still fun (It was Color Me Rad).

Reply

Feetures are my favorite socks by far! And my next race will be over Labor Day weekend in Chicago with some girlfriends- yay!!

Reply

I love the new balance socks for running – there is something about the extra cushion in them that makes my runs so happy. :)

Reply

-Friday Favorites: No work, I don’t work Fridays..ever..luck girl here. So I get my daughter all to myself. When my husband gets home on Fridays we always do a fun dinner and movie night w popcorn and ice cream!
-Last race was July 4th a 20 km. My next race is maybe….a half in September but I am currently not registered for anything.
-I run in CEP compression socks, always. LOVE THEM!
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Reply

I LOVE blueberries with peanut butter. Such a great combo! I can’t get enough watermelon lately either, it’s just so refreshing and thirst quenching – I go through it like crazy these days.

Reply

I like watermelon because it’s cool and refreshing. I am excited for the Jersey watermelon that should be coming any day.

I race too much and like to find a race almost every weekend if possible. I definitely have a different mentality from goal races to the majority of my races.

Reply

Eating watermelon and cucumbers sound amazing but I am allergic to gourds. I seriously haven’t had melons since I was in grade school. : (

Next race is my first 15K trail race and longest mileage to date so I am a little nervous. Hoping to get out to the trail tomorrow to check it out pre race day.

Reply

What is the celebration for Utah??? I don’t know how you run in those Nike Shorts. Mine ride up CONSTANTLY.

Reply

My last race was in May. Feels like forever ago. My next real race is in October. Also feels like forever. The race you’re doing on the first looks fun though. I need to look into that next year. And the lake Powell marathon in October looks fun. But it’s on my daughters bday so we can’t do it this time around.

Reply

watermelon after a sweaty summer workout= THE BEST

Reply

Happy Friday to you and the Brookers! There’s a big juicy watermelon in my fridge right now! And no races for me, outside of the annual Turkey Trot. But maybe one day I’ll conquer more than a half! Yay for big salads. :)

Reply

I work at a big French restaurant and there’s a drink on the menu called a watermelon chiller that I’m sure youd love! Basically just watermelon and crushed ice but really good!! My Friday favourite= enjoying some candy in bed after a long day of work! :)
Hope you’re feeling better after your fall, I’ve done a million faceplants myself and I understand the burn!

Reply

Being on vacation with hubby and baby.
The granola that I am eating every morning of this vacation.
Seeing the words park city in your post and thinks no back to last summer’s vacation.

Reply

As others have said – Balegas are the best running socks!

Reply

Ahhhhh! Okay so I don’t mean to be a buzzkill but I once ran the Tuscon marathon (point to point, downhill mostly the whole way) and I trashed my quads. TRASHED. I ran it in hopes of qualifying for Boston and it ended up being my slowest marathon (I had to walk the last few miles in). But this was a long time ago and I wasn’t as trained as I am now, and you’re even more experienced than me so you’ll be fine but I just felt like I needed to tell you my story!

Reply

My new thing is Popsicles after a hot & sweaty run. I give myself a pass on this since I only drink water. The Popsicle is like Gatorade, right? :D

Reply

Try this Protein Brownie that tastes like a molten chocolate lava cake! (I’m dead serious!)

Protein Brownie
Serves 1
1 scoop of protein (chocolate or vanilla works best)
1 tbs of cocoa powder (I prefer the dark cocoa)
1/2 tsp of baking powder
1/4 cup of almond milk or water
Stevia to taste

Mix up all the ingredients until smooth/ brownie batter consistency. Microwave for anywhere between 25-32 seconds or until the brownie has puffed up a bit. Don’t microwave too long or it will turn out dry. Then you can add whatever your heart desires! Fresh fruit, pb/ab, cereal, cacao nips, ice cream, etc… (:

Reply

Ran my first long run for this training cycle this morning. 10 miles with a negative split! I really struggle with starting out too fast and wanting to die a million times during the second half. I also swallowed a bug while running! A little extra protein, right?

Reply

That half marathon looks amazing. I can’t seem to find any courses around here that are a net loss. The fastest race course I have ever done was CIM which has a net loss, but still has a number of rolling hills.

Balega socks are my favorite… I don’t think I could ever run in anything different.

My Friday favorite is riding in the Sram neutral support car at the Cascade Cycling Classic today!!! It’s going to be a fun day!

Reply

Friday favorites: we are going mountain biking tomorrow at a local state park…so excited! My last race was a sprint tri last Saturday and my next race (tenatively) is a full tri at the end of September. I love SmartWool and Darn Tough socks, but I have heard great things about Balegas, so they are going to be my next new pair.

Reply

I love balega socks!!! Just love them!

Reply

I’m loving blueberries right now. Hubs and I went berry picking two weeks ago, and there are still plenty in our freezer. Amazing!
My last race was a 5k… and also the fastest course I’ve ever run on. It’s literally up and down an airport runway. Super flat. Unfortunately, this past year it was also super windy, so it wasn’t my best time.
My next race… not sure. I’m taking the year off from the biggies (marathon and beyond) for personal reasons, but I’m sure there is a 5k or 10k in my near future!

Reply

Your blog makes me so happy!

My Friday favorites are: Trader Joe’s jalapeno/cilantro hummus, metallic nail polish, Tyler and the Tribe (a Texas band — I’m going to their concert tonight!), Go Set a Watchman, and marshmallow milky ways.

I don’t have a favorite running sock, but I want to try out the Injinji toe socks!

Reply

Feetures are my favorite socks with ProCompression coming in a close second! Bread, almond butter & blueberries is my breakfast almost every day!!

My Friday favorites right now are Bolthouse Farms Yogurt Salad Dressing, Sparkling Ice Peach Lemonade & the RHOOC!

Reply

I cut up a watermelon this morning too, I put some in recyclable cups with a fork for us to take it on the go. I told my Mr. 8 not to take mine, he didn’t. He took a sharpie and wrote “I love you more end of story” on it. He makes me smile.

Reply

Mmmm. That is the best way to cook and eat a potato, in any variety. You really should try it.

You will do awesome next week at your race. I think the Hobbler Half is the fastest course I have done. If I think about how long it has been since I have done a race…and how long it may be until I do one again, I get seriously depressed.

Hope you are doing something fun in Park City!!

Reply

This has nothing to do with your post but I will say after being an avid asics shoe runner in high school, then a forced (and painful) nike shoe runner at the college level where we had to wear nike because that was our sponsor, I am now officially a happy and pain free converted Brooks wearer because of you. I have followed your blog for quite some time now and after my first marathon training cycle and race in brooks. I will never go back. So if your sponsors see this I soley bought brooks because of your blog and now I will never buy another brand again!

Reply

Okay…. this made my day! I am so happy that you have found YOUR shoes… that is how I feel about Brooks too. YAY for injury free! Keep me updated with how your running is going!!!

Reply

I’ve been throwing watermelon in the Ninja with a little lime juice so I can have a nice, cold glass of watermelon juice post run!

Reply

that sounds like heaven. I must try it!

Reply

My last race was a 10k in October and I also think it was the fastest.. because it was .2 miles short of the 10k distance! I was mad. It would have been a PR for me, but it doesn’t count because it wasn’t the correct distance. Bummer. :(

Reply

AWWW I love that brooke calls curly her bff! so sweet! I don’t have a favorite brand of running socks but it is INSANE how much more comfortable it is to run in real running socks vs normal socks!

Reply

When it’s summer, it’s essential to always have a fridge stocked with watermelon!!

Reply

I eat watermelon almost daily right now and I have no shame. SO GOOD!
I love Feetures socks and especially in the summer. I agree, they have gotten so much prettier ;-)
Next race in a 5K with my husband. He hasn’t done a race before so I’m excited to do it with him!

Reply

I wish Florida had state holidays! Have fun!

Reply

My last race was the Firecracker 10k on the 4th.

My next race (Does this count?) is this Sunday for my birthday. There aren’t any organized halfs in my area this time of year (too hot and humid) so I signed up for the US Road Running half and they send you a bib and metal for completion. So… no other runners, but my Dad and Brother are going to join me for the last 3 miles, so that’ll be nice! You get to choose your course so I picked some of my favorite stretches of my city. I’ll go over three overpasses, through residential, and finish on our greenway system. Wish me luck!!

Reply

I just gotta say I feel like a a superstar today! My lovely fiance contacted Janae and she sent me a super awesome birthday video message! He knows I read this blog every day for inspiration even though I’m only a half marathon runner so it means so much to get a message like that! Thanks Janae!!

Reply

My last race was a half in May in Toronto…my next race is in August…in Atlanta…yes, I am going to die of heat! lol

Balega socks!!!

Reply

I can’t get enough watermelon lately! My last race was in June and I’m racing the Flag Half in September!

Reply

Totally agree…all the watermelon, please! I think about it while I’m running (and ice cream, too).

My last race was Boston Marathon this past April (hard to believe it was so cold and wet)…and my next will be the Nike Women’s Half in San Francisco in October.

My favorite running socks are balegas.

Off topic…did you get your Boston Marathon Record Book?!? Mine came this week.

Reply

I buy a watermelon from Costco every week. I’m basically the sole eater in the house. Addicted, maybe :)

My last race was the Napa Valley Marathon. My next race is a local 10-miler, the perfect distance in my opinion.

I’ve been running in Balega socks for at least 10yrs. Yes, I’m loyal.

Have a great weekend!

Reply

I agree, watermelon tastes really good after a run too. My favourite brand of winter running socks are sock guy and smart wool and summer is new balance.

Reply

I’ve been LOVING watermelon and blueberries. I don’t want summer to end because of that haha. I love Feetures! socks. They don’t give me blisters and come in cute colors!

Reply

I love watermelon more than anything anything anything on Earth :) I can’t stop. I don’t want to <3

Reply

First sushi…now “flashlight”…downloaded and on repeat (4x around so far).

Reply

I do no have any past races but I signed up for my first 5K in September. I don’t mean to shock anyone but I have a strong distaste for watermelon…any melon really! Although this blog is making me think I should give it a second chance…

Reply

ohhhh now i NEED watermelon! that one looks like it’s especially ripe and sugary sweet YUM!

my favorite right now is going through my packing list 17 more times before we leave for london and then on to casablanca after (!) super excited!

Reply

I wear Hilly socks here in the UK. If I could afford enough pairs I’d wear them everyday, they are so comfy. They aren’t bad for running in either..

That garlic bread and dip is making me drool looking at it, it looks amazing..

Reply

I love Flashlight! Such a good song! Going to listen to it now. :)

Reply

That song is awesome! I’m listening to it now! Did you by chance speed it up for running?

Last race I did was on Memorial Day, and the next one is my triathlon on August 8. I’ve been thinking about doing the Timp Race. It would be a good prep for my upcoming marathon in September.

Reply

My last race was this morning for Pioneer Day and I will also be at the Timp Half next weekend. Good luck!

Reply

AHHH congrats on your race today and good luck to you next weekend! I hope to see you there!

Reply

Have you tried wtrmln wtr? It’s delicious! I feel like you would love it.

That sweet potato looks absolutely amazing. I want to make one like now, except the fact that I won’t be turning on my oven for at least two more months. I guess I will have to wait.

My last real race (I did a 5k a few months ago but just for fun) was the Mankato half maraton last October. My next race is the Montreal RnR half September 20th. I can’t wait!

Reply

I just got a PR today at the deseret news classic half! I took ten minutes off my time from a couple of years ago so I was pretty happy about that. I have been considering the Timp half and that elevation chart may have just made my decision for me!

Reply

I agree with your opinion of socks! I love Feetures and they used to be plain white. Now, they come in all kinds of exciting colors which make them a lot more fun to wear!

Reply

My last race was the end of May, but it seems like yesterday because time is flying by so fast this summer!

Reply

I love love love all of my Smartwool PhD socks!

Reply

Yes I am tearing through watermelon every week at home, haha!
