Calling all healthy snack/treat ideas….

Sometimes naps still go down around here.  Those cheeks of hers… they make my heart melt every day.

I finally made it back to bootcamp last night.  Megan was out of town last week and I was lame about doing strength training the week before…. so, it has been a long time since she last whipped me into shape.  After 45 minutes of plyometrics and weights she had us end with 100 walking lunges.

It is a good thing that an easy run is on the schedule for today because I won’t be able to run fast for a little while after last night’s class.  It is an extra good thing that for some reason easy running actually helps with my post-bootcamp soreness levels.

IMG 5175

Dinner included my go-to ingredients lately of bbq chicken, avocado, cheese and ranch.  It was quite tasty.

IMG 2555

The highlight of Brooke’s day was filling up her new bird feeder.  She has quite the thing for birds and I have a feeling she will sit herself next to the patio door to watch them quite often now.

IMG 2559

In other news one of my speediest friends ever told me about the sandals that helped out her feet the most when she was having problems—>  Birks.  I have a white pair of them but they are one of the new versions (aka not a ton of arch support) but she filled me in on the fact that the old soles actually offer a lot more support.  They are officially all I am wearing for the rest of summer (other than my running shoes) because they feel so good on my feet.  I got THESE ones just in case you are a Birkenstock fan that needs some arch help.

Brooke uses subliminal messaging (by showing me our Disneyland pictures) a lot in hopes to get another Disney trip soon.

IMG 5166

It’s that time (again;)——> I am trying to lower my sugar intake a bit and find some healthier dessert options.  I won’t be cutting out treats/dessert entirely because I love them too much and I see no problem with eating them in moderation.  I am just trying to find a way to cut back on treats and fulfill my sweet tooth with some more nutrients.  I’ve got 10.5 weeks until the St. George Marathon so I NEEEEEEEED to fuel properly.

I’ll share some of my favorite ‘healthier’ sweet tooth satisfiers and I would LOVE it if you would share yours!

PS my friend’s banana, almond butter and coconut combo made me drool a bit.

I love any sort of fruit for dessert!

Yay for strength training! I’m trying to get back into it as well.

I sometimes cut up a banana and add a little whipped cream to it. Tastes just like banana cream pie! Add a couple Vanilla wafers if you really want it to taste like pie!

I used to love making bird feeders when I was little! I used to cover pine cones with peanut butter and hang them in the trees in our front yard.

Since it’s so hot out right now I am all about the fruit smoothies! If it were possible I would have one for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

My go-to flavor right now is frozen mango, frozen pineapple, splash of coconut water, splash of almond milk and vanilla greek yogurt to make it creamy :) YUM!

That’s the best treat after a nice long, hot run!

That first pic is sooooo precious!

I’m all about the good ol’ banana and almond butter combo, or a yummy green smoothie!

Grapes and animal crackers.

Also, any type of parfait is usually delicious. I can also eat just yogurt with granola at any point in time.

Wheat Thins with banana slices on top. SO.good.

I love having apple with cinnamon and honey .. heated for like 15 seconds. It’s ALMOST as good as apple pie : )

Reply

I must try that banana-yogurt-granola-frozen idea! Sound delish especially since it’s so how outside.

I love sweet bell peppers dipped in guacamole, Quest bars and lara bars, almonds (natural almonds with some flavored peanuts thrown in to make it fun), and roasted chick peas are all some of my favorite “healthier” snacks!

I’ve always found that “easy running” with sore legs does help to shake them out a bit! 100 lunges at the end of a workout is just cruel. ;)

Reply

I just posted a chocolate banana nice cream recipe on my blog today!
I also snack on tons of fruit!!!

Reply

I like almonds with some dark chocolate chunks, gluten-free low-sugar cereal (like Chex) and kefir, or veggies with hummus or nut butter. And of course fruit!

Reply

Glad your foot is feeling better!
I also have a major sweet tooth and try to find healthy snacks. My favourite is Greek yogurt mixed with fruit and then frozen in ice cube trays. If you let them thaw a bit they do kind of taste like froyo!

Reply

Frozen yogurt covered blueberries….or strawberries. I usually just take each berry on a toothpick and swirl it in greek yogurt then freeze. Chocolate avocado pudding is also a favorite!

Reply

I love chocolate chia pudding – it’s delicious and packed with healthy fats, minerals and anti-oxidants. Can’t go wrong there! I make this recipe from Oh She Glows: http://ohsheglows.com/2012/01/11/healthy-chocolate-chia-pudding/

I also love hummus on whole wheat crackers topped with an olive.

Carrots dipped in peanut butter are another favorite.

Slice a banana in half lengthwise. Place thin slices of orange on top and sprinkle lightly with brown sugar. You can also sprinkle coconut on top. Then place the whole thing in the toaster oven for a few minutes to warm and melt the brown sugar. Enjoy!

Reply

I can’t wait to see everyone’s suggestions for healthy treats! I love to have some Kefir mixed with berries. I also love having dark chocolate, but only a few squares. That’s considered a health food, right?

A slight variation on your apple & cinnamon with nut butter – add some vanilla greek yogourt. It’s like apple pie with ice cream!

If you’re looking for non sweet snacks, I really dig turkey/cheese/mustard roll ups! Also pb and fruit sweetened (I like Polaner) jelly on a tortilla!

Reply

Make your own acai bowl! Or my favorite smoothie right now: spinach, baby kale, almond milk, frozen light coconut milk, frozen banana, cacao nibs, and almond butter :)

Reply

–Oatmeal with a touch of PB and chocolate chips — it tastes DECADENT but is actually quite healthy
–Greek yogurt with a handful of Teddy Grahams or cereal mixed in
–A yam drizzled in maple syrup
–Smoothie made with frozen spinach, a banana, almond milk and ice — seriously tastes like a milkshake
–A brownie sundae with rainbow sprinkles– healthy for my soul ;)

Reply

You should try Pip&Nut coconut almond butter- HEAVEN!

Reply

Strawberries with fat-free whipped topping is a go-to for me. I also like to heat up half a peach and sprinkle some cinnamon on top. There’s something about a warm peach that is so comforting. Grilled pineapple and coconut shavings is another good one!

I’m glad you found some sandals that will help your foot. There’s no way I could go an entire summer without wearing sandals!

Reply

I’ve been putting a little Greek yogurt in the freezer for say, 30 minutes, and crumbling a piece of Brownie Brittle over it. Obviously there’s sugar in the Brownie Brittle, but I only use one piece and it gives the yogurt a nice crunch and cures my sweet tooth. I also mix mango into my Greek yogurt. I need to figure out some savory snacks and sides to go with my lunches because I do sweet snacks a LOT (including some of the ones you mentioned but I’m excited to try the others).

I’m looking for a good, comfortable sandal with some support for a vacation to Spain in September (YAY!!!) so I don’t have to be in sneakers the whole time. Is the Arizona the one with more support in general? How can I tell the old vs. new? They don’t have my size/color combo on the link you posted, so I’m checking elsewhere, but want to get the right ones! Please and thank you!

If you have a food processor or blender (doesn’t need to be high quality) then:
– frozen banana blended makes great soft serve icecream. I add blueberries and lemon too but most things work. Top with dessicated coconut and shaved dark chocolate.
– date rolos: there’s a full recipe on the ohshe glows recipe if you search it. Basically just blended dates and nut butter with a pinch of salt, rolled into balls and dipped into a little dark chocolate. Eaten frozen so perfect for little sweet summer bites
– I make a snickers like thing using oats, nut butter, coconut oil and dates so it’s really nutrient dense but certainly satisfies a craving. http://hummusandspuds.com/post/85128366013/vegan-gluten-free-snickers
– fruit and cheese is ridiculously satisfying: think two slices of nectarine sandwiching a little blue cheese. Works well with apple, peach and plum and any strong, creamy cheese.

Reply

I just made these “ice cream sandwiches” for my birthday! If suggest adding some dark chocolate ;) http://www.bakedperfection.com/2013/06/strawberry-frozen-yogurt-bars.html?m=1

Reply

I know you mentioned dates with almond butter already, but you should try that with raw almond butter! I buy mine at TJ’s, and it’s the same price as the roasted kind. The raw almond butter tastes like candy to me, even though it’s just raw almonds.

Reply

A graham cracker topped with peanut butter and banana makes a great swap for dessert. Even just one square is satisfying! You could even put a bit of cool whip on top if you were feeling crazy ;-)
I snack on fruit daily as well as Angie’s popcorn, so good! (and not just because it has my name in it :-)

Reply

This is one of my favorite desserts too! Sometimes I’ll use lowfat cream cheese instead sprinkled with a bit of turbinado sugar and cinnamon and a slice of strawberry — tastes like a bite of cheesecake!

Reply

When I want ice cream really late at night, I do strawberries cut up with whipped cream on top. It taste pretty dang good. I still eat ice cream a lot though and I don’t know if I’m ready to give that up anytime soon.

Reply

I love dipping sweet pepper into hummus! String cheese and fruit is always a good combo too :)

Reply

I love peanut butter and banana sandwhiches or a chocolate Quest bar with peanut butter on top!

Reply

I’m a donkey when it comes to eating healthy. I’ll be coming back to this page so that I can be inspired!

Reply

Homemade sweet potato fries with cinnamon sprinkled on top, 1 serving of Target’s Monster trail mix (helps with my sweet tooth), newly discovered (for me) larabars, any veggie dipped in hummus and of course fruit. All the fruit- although sugary I can’t feel guilty eating something natural

Reply

Thanks for writing this because I have been looking for some healthier choices. All of these seem like great alternatives. I don’t even know where to begin! I like anything with a little bit of a crunch to it.

Reply

Cute birks! And I’m totally with you on the snacking thing… but instead of a sweet tooth I have a SALT tooth :P

Reply

I buy coconut-covered dates from the produce department and add just a touch of chocolate nut butter to them! So good!

Reply

These bad boys: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2013/08/banana-split-bars.html. they’re a little labor-intensive, but they are delish and one of the VERY few ways I’m willing to eat quinoa ;)

Reply

Frozen blueberries dipped in vanilla Greek yogurt. Freeze on a cookie sheet with parchment paper. So easy and delicious!!

Sometimes I make cookies – just bake three ingredients – steel cut oats, ripe banana, and dark chocolate chips. Serve with a glass of cold milk!

I am a big fan of the Quest bar too. White chocolate raspberry, cookies & cream, cookie dough, or smores flavor… protein + dessert = happiness :)

Reply

I love the website runonveg.com it is awesome and Kara Goucher uses her recipes.

Reply

1.) Medjool dates (can find at costco!) with a little peanut or almond butter inside! Everyone I’ve introduced this healthy dessert to loves it!

2.) Chocolate green smoothie (frozen bananas, cacao/cocoa powder, greens, almond milk)

3.) These Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Balls! (http://theconscientiouseater.com/vegan-peanut-butter-cookie-dough-balls/)

4.) chopped up banana with peanut butter drizzled on top and cinnamon or a few chocolate chips

Reply

Jello with fruit mixed it (specifically bananas) before it solidifies. It can be fun for toddlers because you can cut them into shapes/use cookie cutters.

I like to make banana bread with nuts/chocolate chips, then cumble it into yogurt with strawberries. The textures are awesome.

Reply

my go-to lately has been yogurt, granola & peaches with a dallop of PB/AB on top. cannnnnot get enough of it :)

Reply

My go tos are a banana with peanut butter, banana ice cream (just a blended frozen banana which actually tastes like ice cream), carrots/celery/pita with hummus, and probably the one that will sound the weirdest but frozen peas. I love eating frozen peas in the summer. The texture and sweetness is amazing. I’m telling you, just try it!

Reply

Cut watermelon into chunks and place on a cookie sheet and freeze for 2 hours. Then run it through a blender or food processor and refreeze. The result: Watermelon sorbet! Top with blueberries – yum!

Reply

Sugar free chocolate pudding on the bottom and then Sugar free chocolate cake baked and cut into squares and put on the bottom of a Pyrex dish. Then layer with frozen berry mix and top with cool whip! Delish! I make this for some of the guys I work with because they are diabetic.

Reply

Dates and cookie dough hummus are great. http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2011/09/27/new-recipe-sugar-free-cookie-dough-dip/
Her website has quite a few cool things. Things in moderation are also a plus. I mean froyo once a week or even twice would be fine. Since you are marathon training you can go higher calorie too. So a healthy oatmeal cookie with some subs to lower the sugar ( applesauce, etc) would be great.

Reply

I love simple and easy snacks. Like a banana or apple. Or even cheerios. I like them because I can just take them with me on the go. I swear I am always on the go.

^^ I seriously just wrote that while doing a plank. Augh. Killer. Baby steps..

Reply

Blueberry muffin in a mug. Can’t get enough of them…

1/4 c. oats
1 egg
1/4 c. blueberries
1 T. almond milk
dash of cinnamon
sweeten to taste with sugar, stevia

Mix and pour in to mug prepared with cooking spray. Microwave at 30 sec. intervals until firm. I like to top my with butter!

Reply

That Yonanas is soooo on my shopping lis! Holy moly! Last night I blended 2 frozen bananas with 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond/coconut milk, 1.5 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder and a splash of vanilla….and I died! So delicious!!!

Also—I’m kicking myself for not keeping my old Birks from back in the day! I rocked those suckers hard! Lol!

Reply

Have you tried quest bars? My two favorite flavors are cookies and cream and cookie dough. They are a little pricey but so good! Also I think you can warm them but I haven’t tried it yet. Gooey cookie dough? Yes please!!

Reply

I was going to suggest Quest bars, too! That’s what I eat after dinner if I’m looking for a dessert alternative. Cookies n cream is my favorite but the Double Chocolate Chunk is great too. The nutritional value is awesome. Also, I order from Amazon.

Reply

Dates and almond butter are my favorite combo. That or a delicious donut but that doesn’t help you in your healthy quest :)

Reply

Mmmmm.. num yummy, peoples! :)

I could definitely do watermelon all day long, Janae! I so agree with you! I always have a cutup watermelon in my fridge.

My go to smoothie lately has been a Strawberry Shortcake smoothie:

1C frozen strawberries
3/4C skim milk
1tsp butter extract (gives it that shortcake flavor)

Blend it and it is sooooo good!

I also do cutup juicy apples with PB powder sprinkled on and heated up a little.

Reply

Greek yogurt with honey drizzled on top is yummy. I’ve also really gotten into Quest bars. They taste like dessert but the ones I bought don’t have more than 1-2 grams of sugar.
And I’ll challenge you to a popcorn eating contest any day. It’s a problem ;0)

Reply

I bought a pair of Birks (Gizehs) about two months ago for my plantar fasciaitis (that is spelled SO incorrectly, I’m sure) and they are AWESOME!! I pretty much alternate between them and running shoes (with a couple hours of work shoes when I HAVE to) and it has made such a difference!

Also, bananas and PB or Larabars if I’m in a hurry. YUM!

Reply

Heated banana + cinnamon!

Pretzels + banana slices!

Salted caramel almonds!

The ultimate treat is the Beltsander brownie! Take: 1 scoop protein powder, 1 tbs of cocoa powder, 1/2tsp of baking powder and 1/4 cup of milk of choice or water. Microwave for 30 seconds and add your toppings.

Then you could make “powerballs” (there are recipes online) that usually consist of honey, oats, PB, dark chocolate, etc.

Microwave a Lärabar for 30 seconds and it transforms from a healthy bar to an indulgent dessert, especially the chocolate ones.

Kind bars and Clif bars can taste like an actual candy bar.

Quest bars are good, not my thing but I lot of people swear by them (all I can taste is the protein powder)

They don’t have them where I live but I’ve heard amazing things about Halo Top Ice Cream, good reviews on Artctic Zero and Wink Desserts ice cream as well.

Freezing yogurt, just like that, if you have little containers than stick a Popsicle stick in!

Reply

Omg that banana concoction looks fabulous!

Reply

Buy 2% milk so a bowl of cereal tastes a little closer to ice cream. Top your cereal with some berries, walnuts, and a couple of chocolate chips.

Reply

Three ingredient fudge: mash up a ripe (really ripe is best!) banana with a big spoonful of pb and a big spoonful of cocoa powder until it reaches a pudding like consistency. It’s ready about 30 seconds after you think “this isn’t working, this isn’t going to work”.
I definitely agree with the beltsander brownies.
A tbsp. of good chocolate chips in a yogurt. I especially love coconut and key lime chobani with chocolate chips.

Reply

I love the coconut chobani with dark chocolate chips added too!

Reply

I have a very important question for you….What is your secret with avocados!? You always seem to have perfect avocados on hand in your dinners – lately, mine have been a bust – they’re not ripe when I get them and it seems like they all go ripe on the same minute of the same day — and then immediately spoil! Help!

PS. If you’re into chocolate, try vegan silken tofu chocolate mousse (the silken tofu is key to the recipe). It’s delicious and has A LOT less sugar + more good stuff!

Reply

Hey if you take the stem off and it’s green, they are READY. Then I immediately put them in the fridge and they keep that way for a while! I know you weren’t asking me, but I hope that helps!

Reply

Berries with whipped cream (spray can is fine) topped with toasted almonds and a drizzle of chocolate.
P.s. you and Brooke make my day!

Reply

I’m not sure if this one counts as a sweet snack, but it has hit the spot for me lately! I love wheat thins with the creamy queso laughing cow and dried cranberries. It sounds weird, but I swear it’s DELICIOUS! :)

Reply

Try Oofos Sandals! We sell them at our local running store and they are AMAZING! It’s like walking on clouds but with lots of arch support ;)

Reply

Have you tried the Zoku Quick Pop Maker? I love ours and we’ve frozen all sorts with it. Even if you use e.g. chocolate milk, you’re using so little of it (about 70ml) that it limits the damage. Often, we just blend up watermelon or use low fat yoghurt. Plus it’s almost instant! I strongly recommend it :)

Reply

Not that watermelon needs anything to be awesome, but to give it a higher level of awesomeness, try squeezing lime juice over cubed watermelon, mix it up, and sprinkle on some cayenne pepper. Yum!

Also, the other day I took frozen blueberries, frozen pineapple, a squeeze or two of fresh lemon juice, and some club soda, threw it all in my Nutribullet, and made an all natural, no added sugar, delicious slushy!

Reply

Oh wise Janae what fruit do you put in your yogurt? I’m in charge of the Linger Longers in my ward and we are having yogurt parfaits on Sunday. I love feeding 20 people but planning for 200 is going to give me grey hairs!

Reply

Not exactly healthy, but the dove individually wrapped chocolates are 210 calories for 7, and if I’m craving some sugar I’ll usually have only one or two and it’s enough to hold me over. Plus chocolate has antioxidants right? Right…

I also like making stove top coconut kettle corn. 2 T coconut oil, 1/3 cu kernels, throw in a T of sugar as the kernels are just starting to pop and shake it til you make it.

Reply

I love making a pudding with coconut milk, coconut flakes, cocoa powder, stevia and almond butter. High fat to keep your hunger at bay and it is a perfect snack before bed!

Reply

An easy and delicious treat is melt some chocolate, either milk or dark, slice up bananas, then dip them in the chocolate. Lay them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, then freeze. Once frozen can store them in a baggie or tupperware. Delicious and semi healthy :)

Reply

I’m a fan of cereal for a treat. It may not be 100% nutritionist approved but way better than a big bowl of ice cream. My favorite is Koala Coco Crispies – they are made with ingredients that I can actually recognize!

Reply

I love the list of snack options.

I like watermelon, pineapple, cherries, and chocolate covered almonds. Yum!

Reply

Those cheeks melt my heart too!!

Reply

Crispy Chocolate Protein Bars by Gina at fitnessista.com. They are seriously delicious (like, honestly tastes like a candy bar!) and really easy to make! And I usually have all the ingredients on hand.

Reply

I love making strawberry smoothies and throwing a little bit of vanilla in there. SO good! Also, vanilla greek yogurt with fruit. Lastly, this isn’t the healthiest thing, but I’m a HUGE fan of McDonalds vanilla ice cream cones. They are only 130 calories and they’re a perfect sweet treat!

Reply

You should come RunDisney! It’s an amazing weekend. Tinkerbell opens registration in just a couple of weeks and it’s on Mother’s Day. What a great way to spend it! :D I love RunDisney weekends I’ve done 4 and have 4 more lined up through January.

I’m horrible at healthy snacking I love freezed dried apples though. My husband eats any fruit he can get at the local farmer’s market.

Reply

My mom was having foot problems so she went to a foot doctor and he recommended Birks! He said they offer great support and since I have plantar fasciitis I’m going to get a pair too!

Skinny Pop is the bomb! I could live on that….but need some protein

Reply

I made strawberry “ice cream” the other day– it was frozen strawberries, vanilla yogurt, and a little lemon juice. Blend it up and you can save any extra in the freezer and scoop it out like ice cream!

Reply

I love to make banana & pb bites half-dipped in chocolate then freeze it! or these -> http://www.howsweeteats.com/2011/05/tropical-kiwi-strawberry-spring-rolls/#_a5y_p=1636456

Love those Birks :)

Reply

I sugar free coconut milk ice cream. Arctic zero is great too- try the vanilla maple with a quest bar. Yum

Reply

I love dried mango, it’s super sweet and chewy so it’s the perfect treat for me.

Reply

Apples heated with cinnamon and topped with either cool whip or greek yogurt. So tasty!

Reply

Sounds like you need more fat and protein maybe in your diet. Maybe more veggies than fruit – I love fruit too but it just leaves me wanting more. Chopped veggies with salsa or mustard.

I’d also watch out for the sneaky sugar…like the Ranch dressing. Maybe try olive oil/lemon/ginger combo as a dressing?

Try making homemade trail mix bars. Those Kind bars sugar added as well.

A smoothie is filling and you can make it thicker with chia seeds, ice, frozen banana and avocado.

Last night I cut up fresh cherry tomatoes from my garden and sprinkled with salt and pepper. So delicious. Not sweet but a yummy treat!

I also like to heat up apples with honey and cinnamon. I have never thought to add oatmeal, but bet that would be delicious- like an apple crisp!

My daughter just made granola bar balls for a 4-H project. They were crushed almonds, peanut butter, honey, oatmeal and you could add dried fruit or mini choc chips. Roll into balls and they are a great treat for on the go.

Reply

I cut up a peach and put some cinnamon on it and then bake it at 350 for a few minutes. The most delicious way to eat it is with vanilla ice cream (heavenly!) but also good by itself.
Also, graham crackers with yogurt and strawberries.
I’m so glad your foot (feet) are doing better!

Reply

Watermelon, cherries, pretty much any fruit.
I don’t like cottage cheese but lately I have been putting grapes into my Greek yogurt and it is delicious!

Today I just bought a box of Outshine strawberry bars- frozen fruit bars , and they are delicious!

Reply

Any kind of fruit puréed and made into Popsicles. My favourite is strawberries with some lime juice, because it tastes like a strawberry daiquiri. Popsicles always taste like a treat

Reply

Watermelon chopped with feta cheese and chopped mint. It’s so refreshing it’s delicious. Or the mojito fruit salad from Iowa Girl Eats, it’s fantastic! Mint for life

Reply

Vanilla greek yogurt (I get Chobani Simply 100) and mix in a couple (or several:)) spoons full of almond butter and top with a few dark chocolate chips. I eat this almost every night! Tastes like cookie dough:)

Reply

A really easy snack I have at nighttime is soy milk and chia seeds. I make it several hours before I actually eat it, so the chia seeds can expand. I just pour about half a glass of soy milk (I use vanilla for this dessert) and then I dump in 1 tbsp. (I usually estimate). After a couple of hours it has a tapioca consistency. So good!

Reply

YUM! I eat all of those combos. Huge popcorn fan, almond butter and apple slices, and homemade granola!!!
Brooke is SO adorable :)

-I love tortilla chips (like Food should taste good multi grain chips) w hummus (wild garden is my favorite, it’s made with only ingredients to make hummus no extra “crud”)
-Cinnamon chex too! YUM :)

fruit + peanut butter + chocolate chips = the best snack every time!

Recently I ate cup up apple, melted pb, and dark chocolate chips every afternoon for 2 weeks! I find a healthy snack and stick with it for awhile. I love this post because I’m getting lots of new ideas!

Reply

Apple slices with almond butter drizzled and then topped with mini chocolate chips! I call them apple nachos!

Reply

I’m glad you finally bought the “soft footbed”!! I suggested them in my previous comment but I guess you didn’t see it.
My daily snacks are- rice cakes with PB or Almond butter & Tbs of Greek yogurt on top ( weird.. I know), Almonds and an apple, plain greek yogurt with fresh blueberries/grapes raisins (that’s my “sugar”) and walnuts, handful of mixed nuts & raisins and popcorn ( I love popcorn but I know it’s not great because I end up eating too much and it doesn’t help much with giving me energy :-).
I train groups for 3-8 hours per day (after running), so I’m eating at least 3-4 snacks per day.

Reply

try freezing your smoothies into popsicle molds! maybe a handful of dark chocolate chips, coconut rolled dates i’ve heard are good (unless you don’t like dates sometimes i don’t like them haha) maybe even frozen banana “nicecream”

Reply

rice cakes topped with cream cheese and my grandma’s homemade fig jam. I am sure she would be happy to send some jars of jam to Utah :)

I just bought a skinny cow cookies and cream ice cream sandwich. They are pretty good and I was satisfied with just one too. :)

This last time I added some wild orange oil too and they were fricken amazeballs.

For an easy, healthy salty snack:
Drain and rise (well) 1 can of chickpeas and then dump onto a dish towel to pat dry.
Put in a bowl and add a tbsp of flour and a large pinch of salt.
Fry in about a tbsp of olive oil on medium for 10-15 min turning every few minutes. Turn the heat up towards to end to get some nice dark flecks. Generously pepper.

Love fruit and fruit smoothies with spinach. I’m also a huge ice cream fan (not healthy I know!), but check out this banana ice cream recipe:

Try this Protein Brownie that tastes like a molten chocolate lava cake! (I’m dead serious!)

Protein Brownie
Serves 1
1 scoop of protein (chocolate or vanilla works best)
1 tbs of cocoa powder (I prefer the dark cocoa)
1/2 tsp of baking powder
1/4 cup of almond milk or water
Stevia to taste

Mix up all the ingredients until smooth/ brownie batter consistency. Microwave for anywhere between 25-32 seconds or until the brownie has puffed up a bit. Don’t microwave too long or it will turn out dry. Then you can add whatever your heart desires! Fresh fruit, pb/ab, cereal, cacao nips, ice cream, etc… (:

I need to try some of your healthier treat ideas… my chocolate addiction is awful, with no such thing as moderation. I’m going to do a “healthy shop” this weekend, and I’ll try and get indgredients that you suggested to help try and stay away from the chocolate :)
