Baby steps and Mother Nature welcomed me back to running.

Why did I take a selfie with the sky this morning?

Because it was super overcast, about 60 degrees and it rained a tiny bit while I was running.  Talk about the best weather conditions for a ‘return to training’ run.  Even better—>  the feet (my left was worse than my right last week but both were letting me know they weren’t happy) were good for the entire run.

IMG 5137

You know your friend Sara is a really good person when you can text her bright and early in the morning and ask to borrow her garmin because yours is frozen and then she brings hers out all ready to go.  I’m in love with the purple.

The plan today was for 8.5 miles:

1 @ 8:00, 1 mile on @ 7:00, 1 mile off @ 8:00, 1 mile on @ 6:45, 1 mile off @ 8 , 1 mile on @ 6:45, 1 mile @ 8, 1 mile @ 6:45 and .5 mile cool-down @ 8:00.

I averaged about 4 seconds faster for each mile.

First time in what felt like ***forever that my running felt good.  It was nice to have some faster miles but I definitely had to work for those.  Some fitness was lost but not too much.

***please note I am super dramatic

The song of the run was THIS one.  I don’t know why I like it so much but I just do.

The best is to come home from a run to a well rested toddler.

We hit up Runner’s Corner today to get fitted for some Moving Comfort sports bras.  We’ll talk more about sports bras next week.  Time to wear properly fitted sports bras and to avoid chaffing:)

IMG 5148

Brooke did a few laps while we were there.

IMG 5150

Next up—> Costco.  Turns out I made her entire month by getting the blueberries.  She hugs her food just like I do.

IMG 5145

Lunch with my older bro that is in town.  We order alike.

IMG 5159

Wanted candy when I got home and had a heated up apple with cinnamon and almond butter instead.  Baby steps.

My running rules are HERE if you want to check them out:)

Looks like a great run and glad your feet were happy :) I wish we had 60 degrees, it’s 90 here now!

Yeah for happy feet and cooler weather! It’s just plain hot in Phoenix so of course I’m jealous. Favorite berry? Strawberries!

Congrats on a great run!!!!
It’s hot as heck in Tennessee.
I wear the Garmin 620. I love it even though it’s way smarter than me!
Fave berry: strawberry!

The weather here is HOT. I love it, though it makes the humid morning runs a bit challenging.

I just got that purple Garmin–the 220. I LOVE it! I definitely prefer it over my 405, which was held together by duct tape and super glue.

I try not to have too many running rules. I did for too long, and it sucked the fun out of running. Right now I am just trying to get back in shape and have FUN!

I prefer strawberry for the real fruit, but I like raspberry flavored things. And blueberry muffins are just standard goodness. :)

I think probably strawberries are my favorite berry. But it depends on the day. I don’t discriminate, I love them all!

Weather is HOT! And we’ve had some rain lately so it is super humid here too!

I love Runners Corner! We were there twice in the 4 days we were in town visiting and they gave me a free tshirt. Win!

You probably already know this as a Brooks ambassador, but right now Moving Comfort bras are on a great sale! I got the Maia in hot pink for $34!! Plus all MC bras ship free from Brooks website.

So glad your feet are feeling better. I think this really shows how much you’ve progressed with your running. Better to take some time off and heal than run through it and get injured and lose the whole training cycle!

Reply

That apple was a great idea! Farmer’s market peaches have been filling my sweet tooth.

I can’t wait to see what you think of the Moving Comfort bras. I’m considering upgrading to those from my Nike sports bras.

I have the Garmin 405 and LOVE it!

Aww, Brooke is a cutie. Lately my rules have been to 1) run freely and not worry about pace etc 2) eat ice-cream.

Reply

We are having a perfect day in the mid 80’s so will do a swim + picnic at the lake!
I just have the Garmin 10 and love it. Running rules = no more than 3-4 runs per week which helps me avoid getting injured. I love strawberries!

so flippin muggy!! i moved to SoCal to be away from the humidity and snow, and we’ve have sooo much humidity right now, my hair wants to be a giant afro!

fav berries would be… shoot, all of them. I love berries!

Reply

I’m in San Diego right now visiting from the east coast… my boyfriend blames me for bringing the bad weather!

Reply

Yay for better feet and perfect running weather!
Blueberries are my favorite berry, but I’ve also never tasted a berry I didn’t like.
I have a Garmin FR 10 for running and am getting a Garmin Fenix for hiking in the mail today.

It’s crazy hot and humid here and just started to rain with the sun shining bright. Gotta love summer. Favorite berry is definitely the blueberry! I go through them so fast!

Reply

Loved your running rules- I do my best to thank all the volunteers and people cheering out there. They’re the best!!

Blackberries have been my favorite lately. So yum and I can easily eat the whole container at once. Stomach-1, Wallet-0

Florida is rainy, hot, and humid. Awful, awful, awful. ha!

I have the Garmin Forerunner just not sure which! It’s purple, does that help? ;)

Runners corner is one of my all time favorite stores. I’ve been shopping for running shoes there for the last 14ish years and I won’t go anywhere else now.

Good, cool weather today.

I love your rule about a time and a season for running. I have a habit of getting a little panicked when schedules don’t match up with my running and I have to remind myself that running isn’t always most important.

Reply

I’ve been on a blackberry kick lately. I take an entire container and pour them into my oatmeal bowl in the morning. Yum!

Reply

Ohhh I’m so jealous of your nice weather! It’s super hot here, as usual. Right now it’s still 88 degrees so just your typical summer day that leaves me dreaming about winter!

I had the purple 220 for a while but I just got the Garmin Vivoactive a few weeks ago and am IN LOVE. I have the white one and it’s the best accessory ever :)

Reply

I have the 620 in Orange, like you! To say I love it would be an understatement. It has my heart for sure. Recently, it stopped connecting to my computer, though. It says something like disk not recognized when I plug it in. Have you ever had this happen? I think I may remember you having to send yours back, but can’t remember why. For now, I’m just syncing it to my phone, but need to call Garmin. The idea of it freezing up has me nervous.

Reply

So happy you love it so much but bummer that it isn’t synching with your computer. I haven’t had that happen yet but I am pretty close to sending mine back because it is driving me crazy!

Reply

This is the first time I’ve ever written on a blog. I just love you that much. Just wanted to say I’m obsessed with the picture of Brookie hugging blueberries. Love you!

Reply

Day made. I can’t believe that my blog is your first… Brookie misses you. Bootcamp tonight?

This morning, it was 47 degrees where I ran! I’m on vacation in the mountains, obviously, and I’m not looking forward to going home.

Blackberries with blueberries as a runner up.
My garmin 210 died 6 months ago and a friend bought me the 10 but it only has 5 hours GPS battery life and I am a slow marathoner. I finished my last in 4:57 and freaked out the last few miles as it flashed low battery. Plus I just lost my beloved Garmin Vivofit so now I am on the hunt for a new watch that does both GPS and steps and also had longer battery life. Suggestions appreciated :)
It’s high 90s and humid here!! Phooey. I have to run tomorrow and am preparing myself for the heat and stickiness.

Reply

Garmin Vivoactive! It rocks!

Reply

All the blueberries! <3 <3 <3

My #1 running rule is to only list to my running songs when I’m running. I seriously even change the radio station in the car because I want to save my fave songs for running only.

Reply

My only running rule right now is to not take myself too seriously. For a long time I let the numbers on my garmin determine whether I had a good run or not, so I’m taking a break from training for things and just learning to love running again. It’s fun to run free, but I miss the speed. Someday I hope to be fast again, but until then, I’ll enjoy still being able to eat ice cream because I run!

The weather here is pretty perfect…not too hot, not too cold, with a little rain here and there. Pretty good for Arizona! :)
Favorite berry is tough…I think it changes but I’d have to say strawberry right now. SO good picked fresh and perfect dipped in chocolate. :)

It is hoooooooooooooooooot here in MD and Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumid!!!!!!! But I like it WAY better than cold :). But I was also dead on the concrete after todays run!
I have tried MOving Comort sports bras twice and both times they chaffed me so bad I was bleeding :(
I have Garmin 220
Blueberries!!!!!!!!

Reply

My jaw is still on the floor because you ran in 60 degree temps in JULY. Like, I can’t even comprehend!!

Reply

It is unbearably hot and muggy in Pittsburgh right now. Running has been a struggle!
Running rules: I try not to let myself get discouraged when I have a bad run and I do not push myself so much that I start to resent running.
Strawberries are my favorite (even though they’re not true berries)!

Reply

My favorite type of berry is raspberries also! I can eat them all day! YUM!

I have a Garmin Forerunner 10 and love it. It may not be as fancy as some of the others, but it does what I need it to do. Plus I love the lime green color!!!

Reply

Congrats on the great run! I’m super jealous of your running conditions!! We hit 100 degrees here today :(

Reply

Happy to hear you’re training run went good! Can’t wait for the running bra blog! I’m forever in search of the right one and they’re so expensive!

Reply

Strawberries are definitely my favorite berries!

Reply

3 things…
1. Brooke looks so old in that smiley photo!!
2. I can not wait for the sports bra post! Girlfriend needs some better support for the girls!
3. So happy your feet feel better!
4. (Okay, 4 things) Miss your guts!

It has been pretty hot and humid here in Indiana, with tons of rain. Today it was finally less humid, and it felt wonderful outside! I have the Garmin 310xt which is an older model, but mine just froze for the first time this weekend. It seems fine now, but it makes me nervous! Strawberries are probably my favorite type of berry–yum. :)

Reply

I need to try that apple/cinnamon/almond butter combo. It actually sounds really delicious if it were heated up! Do you heat everything up or add in the cinnamon after?

Reply

Favorite berry is probably strawberries or blueberries, both are amazing.! :)
The weather is like that here also :) probably cuz you’re kind of west coastish.

I’m not cool like everyone else, and I have a TomTom, no Garmin here.

Reply

It’s finally hot enough to enjoy the pool
My very favorite fruit is blackberries.

Reply

Strawberry! We’re cooler and overcast too. High’s in the 60s the last few days. I’m not complaining!

Reply

Moving Comfort sports bras are my favorite :)

The weather right now is currently kind of crummy where I’m at. It’s thunderstorming.

Reply

I have the exact same Garmin you do, color and all! I love it! I’m so jealous of your weather, it is hot and humid in my neck of the woods!

Reply

It is HOT here right now. We’ve had heat advisories the last couple days.

I have a garmin forerunner 10, but I usually run with my TomTom Runner Cardio. I’m obsessed with all the stats.

My main running rule is to remember that all runs can’t be awesome – the heat has really been bringing me down, but I think it’s going to make me stronger when the weather finally cools off.

Raspberries are the best, but I love all berries.

Reply

It is so hot in Tampa! And sticky!

I love my Garmin 220! Not only is it purple and pretty, it’s AWESOME!

Running rules: don’t take it too serious, have fun, never take it for granted, and never leave home without your Garmin.

Favorite berry? Well, strawberry of course!

Reply

Raspberries are the best! That weather sounds awesome compared to all of the super hot days we have been having in Provo!

Reply

I’ve been considering switching to a Garmin. I have a nike+ watch, that has been pretty good to me, but I feel it’s about time for an upgrade!

Reply

I have the Garmin 210 and it suits me well! It came with a heart monitor band which has moments of helpfulness in my training. Strawberry is my berry!

Reply

60 degrees? You’re so lucky!! Here we have 92 with a lot of humidity at 7pm… that sucks, but my positive vision is that when cold arrives I’m gonna be ready to smash my tempos.

I have the Garmin 310XT and I’m so happy with it, it’s so easy and the big screen makes easier viewing the pace and others. But I think Garmin is gonna uncataloged it.

Reply

I have that Garmin, my old one was so so slow at finding satellites! loving the purple! Strawberries are my fave, but any berry is good with me!

Reply

Hi from the sunny UK! I have that exact watch. How do you keep to a certain time per mile ie when your coach says 1 mile at x speed? What setting did you use because mine varies WILDLY, one second I look at it and it says 10:05 then I look and it says 11:20 (I am a slow runner!). I can’t seem to get it on an average pace for the mile, can anyone help please??

Reply

Brooke looks like a teenager in that picture!!! I’m all about the strawberry when they’re super ripe and delicious

Reply

I have a garmin forerunner 620 (the black version) and I love it. I love it so much that i wear it even when I’m not running :D I haven’t had issues with mine freezing, but my friend had issues pairing her forerunner to the phone until she reset it. Have you tried resetting? There are instructions online and it puts the watch back to factory defaults. You’d lose info stored on the watch (eg, PRs, your profile, etc) but all of this info should be stored in your Garmin Connect online anyway, and you can send it to the device after its been reset.

I’m in AZ – so it’s warm! This last weekend was a little cooler though, only upper 90’s! I get up at 5am to run when it’s still bearable.
I upgraded from a Vivofit & a Forerunner 15 to a Garmin Vivoactive & I’m digging it !
Real berries? Strawberries. Flavor? Raspberry
I am hunting up birkenstocks, but don’t get the difference between the soles X anyone have a good explanation?

Reply

I have a garmin 610 but don’t use it that much– oops! I should really get back into using that because I am totally a numbers nerd and love seeing all that data :) hmmm favorite berry would probably be strawberries… followed closely by a 3 way tie between blueberries/raspberries/blackberries :)

Reply

Garmin 620 (orange & white) – looooooove it. Huge step up from the Garmin 305 that I had for so many years!

Hmmm…favorite berry…maybe blueberries? Or Strawberries?

Reply

Totally with you on moving comfort! I have been wearing MC Juno racer backs since I really got into running for distance. Love love love them. Never once chafed (though the girls can sometimes cause sore shoulders) :)

Reply

I love my Moving Comfort bra. It’s the only one I don’t have to yank over my head and hook.

It’s hot and way humid here. We’ve been having advisories on not going outside.

hmm, I love all berries. I don’t know that I could choose.

I have the simple Garmin, I just wanted to know how far/fast I’m going. I also like that I can set it for run/walk intervals now that my hip is healing.

I like to blend watermelon, lime and mint in a blender and either have it as a drink or freeze it into ice pops. It’s very cooling after a run or workout!

Moving comfort sports bras are THE BEST. I would die without mine!

Hooray for happier feet!
