My FAVORITE summer dresses and marathon training week #2!!!

Life is just better when the cousins are in town.

IMG 2093

We went up north for dinner at my aunt’s house last night.

Yesterday was my rest day from running but I am pretty sure Brooke got in a solid mile or two of chasing her cousins while we were there.

IMG 2089

We did the bbq thing.  I made one of my better life decisions and added a whole bunch of guacamole to the top bun of my burger.

IMG 2118

We then had a water fight in the backyard.  It is amazing how fast those little kids are and how good they are at throwing water balloons… I was soaking wet by the end.

IMG 2126

My aunt brought out this goodness.  The more chocolate the merrier in our opinion.

IMG 2137

After my aunt’s house we drove down to celebrate my sweetest friend Amanda’s birthday.

They made sure to relight the candles so that Brooke had a chance to blow them out too:)

It is in the 90-100s here right now and so I try to wear lightweight dresses as much as possible to avoid sweating to death. I’ve had questions about where I get them so I thought I’d share with you my favorite summer dresses right now.  Some of the ones I have currently been wearing are from random little boutiques so I will share ones very similar that I have found online.

My favorite summer dresses are—> here, here, here, here, here, here and here!!!!

St. George Marathon Training Week #2

I hit my first 50 mile week since back in March when I was training for the Boston Marathon.

I wanted to take 5 naps and eat 5,000 calories each day this last week—>  my normal marathon training side effects.

Each day includes foam rolling and/or stretching, core work and strength training mixed in.  I didn’t make it to bootcamp this last week but it is my goal to get back into it next week to keep on going with this injury free/getting stronger stuff.

Monday:  7.23 miles @ 7:54 average pace.  Naked run—>  No music and no looking at my gps until the end of the run.  It was fun to give my brain a break from music and looking down at the numbers on my garmin.

Tuesday:  10 miles Faster/Faster Treadmill workout.  20 minute warm-up, 3 sets of —>  400m at easy run pace (7:25-8:25) then 400m at tempo run pace (6:35-6:51) then 400m at speed workout pace (6:20-6:30) then 3 minutes at recovery jog pace (8:30-9:00).  Cool-down until I hit ten miles.  7:39 average pace.

Wednesday:  6 mile easy trail run average pace of 8:17

Thursday:  11 mile treadmill workout.  7:32 average pace.  20 minute warm-up, 4 minutes at an easy pace (8:00) then recovery jog pace (8:45) for 2 minutes—>  4 minutes at steady state run pace(7:00)  then recovery jog pace for 2 minutes—>  4 minutes at tempo run pace (6:35) then recovery jog pace for 2 minutes—>  4 minutes cruise interval pace (6:30) then recovery jog pace for 2- minutes.   A little faster than easy pace for the remainder of the run.

Friday:  Yoga at home and 4 miles at 8:45 pace on the treadmill.

Saturday:  12 mile fast finish long run.  7:36 average pace.  First 8 miles @ 7:57 average pace and last 4 miles @ 6:52 average pace  I’m excited for that sub 7 minute mile to feel more and more comfortable as the weeks go by leading up to the marathon!

Sunday:  Complete rest day.

I got in two miles! Lol. I’m on a ‘no exercise’ order per my OB thanks to constant braxton hicks at 29 weeks but hopefully getting it lifted today!

Easy dresses are essential when it gets that hot, glad we’re not there yet! I’ve been running about 35/week but that will kick up soon when NYC training starts. My daughter has an August birthday and will turn 8, incredible.

Reply

The more chocolate, the merrier -> AMEN! Love the dresses!

Reply

I got in around 30 miles last week and I’m not training for anything….thank the Lord, because I broke another treadmill this morning!

Thankfully my birthday is August 23rd so hopefully my hubs will buy me a new one.

Goal this week: Get a new treadmill and stay out of the heat, stat!

Reply

Awesome training this past week! I ended up woth 29 miles last week and I’m hoping for mpmomore this week!

Reply

I got 26 miles in last week. I’ll take it since I’m just starting to get back into a routine with my running after the last marathon. I like being in the 35 mpw range.

I can’t decide what my next race will be. I’m thinking possibly back to back races in New Hampshire and Maine. We’ll see!

I am going after the same goal for the week that you’re going for! Have a great Monday!

Reply

Last week I went in my first stroller run! It was actually really fun and my little man loved it.

Reply

Is that a chocolate drizzled popcorn cake? Because that’s amazing.

Reply

It sure is. I must get the recipe and post it soon! Hope you are having a fabulous monday:)

I got in about 25 miles last week which is a sweet spot for me. Even when marathon training, I don’t like to log 40+ mile weeks much-> my body does not do well that high. I find less is more for me, but I am feeling better this 2nd marathon training cycle. Seems my body does have some muscle memory:)

Reply

It sounds like you had a Really productive week of training. I’m glad it’s going so smoothly.

That chocolate in the Tupperware looks like the best snack ever. My sweet tooth has been pretty crazy lately.

I’m just trying to increase my speed and turnover right now. Maybe I’ll think about a fall race…

Reply

Girl you are KILLING it in the 5ks and 10ks… you are motivating me to sign up for one:)

Reply

I typically feel most comfortable between 45-50 miles a week.

I think I prefer fall races more. The weather seems more crisp and enjoyable. :)

My goal this week is to do well at my new job that I start on Wednesday!!

Reply

I like running 40-45 miles per week. Anything above that and I start getting tired and injured. It seems like once I hit 35+ miles per week I speed right up so getting in the 40s usually feels like great marathon prep for me :) Fall races are my favorite so far – in my experience usually the weather is more cooperative during the training cycles leading up to them!

Reply

Training for NYCM starts today!! I love training for fall races because the longer days in summer allow for a more flexible running schedule. Goals for this week – stretch and recovery properly!

Reply

AHHHHHHH GIRL!! That is so so so exciting. NYCM is beyond incredible, you are going to love every second of it!

Reply

Dresses are all I wear in the summer with 100s+ temps in Phoenix. So much better than shirts even. I was hoping to start training for a half this week but plantar fasciitis is holding me down right now. Have you ever had it? It’s really a pain to get rid of!

Reply

Love summer dresses, so easy and comfy!

I have been benched by my doctor until I see a physical therapist tomorrow due to some neck issues. Everytime I feel like just going for an easy run I remember you saying how important it is to let our bodies heal. :-)

Reply

I LOVE wearing dresses in the summer. It’s just so much more comfortable!

I hit 30.5 miles last week. I was sick and had to miss a workout :(. I’m training for the VIA Marathon in September.

Amen to trying to cut back on sugar. I am out of control.

Reply

I’m training for a race in August called The Hell of A Half. It’s called that for a reason…hills and heat! Still not sure why I signed up for this race knowing how hard it is. Haha

Reply

I love reading your training logs! It is so motivational!

I am training for my first half Ironman. I actually just started the taper so things are getting very real around here!!

Reply

Half Ironman?!?! You are amazing!!!!! Go, Meghan, go!!

Reply

Yesterday I was so hungry all day… that’s how I know I am officially back in marathon training haha!

I am all about the summer dresses right now too! Flowy, light and good for work or play!

Reply

I ran about 27 miles last week and I am working back up to my normal 30-40 miles per week which is where I usual am when I am training for a race. I am still deciding on fall race! I will probably do the Baltimore half in October but I’m sure sure if I want to do a full in November too!

Reply

Looks like a lovely day for you guys :)

I usually hit 40ish miles. I want to be in the 50’s some day.! Great job on your 2nd week of marathon training

Reply

I got in a little over 36 miles last week! Getting ready to start training officially this week for my next marathon!

I like running somewhere between 45-50. I think that’s my sweet spot, though I’ve never tried over 53 miles in a week. Maybe I will this training cycle?! I might die of exhaustion before that though.

I’m starting training for the Bay State Marathon in Lowell, MA, in October. I ran it last year and PR’ed by 20 minutes! Hopefully I’ll run another PR and my 2nd BQ this year! It’s SO FLAT.

Goal for this week: Get my butt out of bed to run in the morning. I have plans pretty much every night this week which means I need to be up and at ’em. Wish me luck!

Reply

Almost 13 last week but headed for a new monthly high for June! I am currently training for a 15K trail race in August (will be longest mileage race to date) and for my first half in December. Hoping to make it to Rock N Roll in my hometown of San Antonio! And I prefer spring races, it is still cool here in South Texas. Goals for this week…..to hit over 20 miles for the week, get at least two loads of laundry done and clean my house! LOL

Reply

I love Brooke’s gold dress! Guacamole added to anything makes life better 

I’m currently training for Chicago and Philly! I’ve come to the conclusion that I prefer fall races. It was a brutal winter where I live so it was tough training outside so I eventually learned to love the treadmill :)

My 25th birthday is July 26th!

My goals this week include running every day, completing week 2 of Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide, cleaning my bedroom closet & prepping to start my training cycle next week!

Reply

I got in 45 miles in training this week. Each week from now to the Portland Marathon will be my highest weekly mileage.
I love dresses in summer! So light and comfortable.
My goals for this week are to stay hydrated in this heat wave and include some recovery yoga.
Great week of training!

Reply

I live in dressed during the summer – so cute and comfy :) I much prefer fall races but I can’t decide which to run!

Reply

It was a 40 mile or so week for me last week. I am not training for anything specific – just keeping my fitness strong for Transrockies in August!

Reply

Brooke is getting so big! My birthday is next month so I’d better figure out what I want everyone to get me haha.

Reply

chocolate, running shoes, candy, movie tickets, year membership to Costco?!?! Just a few suggestions ;)

Happy almost birthday!

Reply

Those are all excellent suggestions. I always freeze up when people ask me what I want!

Reply

I really want to run a marathon this next year, so I am following a marathon training off season plan right now. Not too crazy with the milage there.

Goals for this week. Eat a better breakfast so that I don’t consume half my calories from dinner on. Cut back on the diet soda. It got out of control on vacation.

Reply

I don’t start training for my marathon until late July, so right now I am getting around 20 miles a week……….enough to keep me in shape, and make me feel like a rockstar bc it is hot and oh so humid here in the South!

I prefer around 30-35 miles a week………..but I do hit 45-50 a few times during training.

I like fall races………..I would rather sweat it out training in the summer and have a gorgeous race in the fall than freeze my butt off training in winter and maybe have a rainy spring race.

And I don’t have a summer birthday, but my sister in law is a July 4th baby so my goals for the week are to get ready to have a badminton/birthday luau party! Going to be so fun!

I’m SO excited to learn my new DSLR camera coming in the mail today!!! LAKSJDFLKAJSDF So excited.

I love summer dress and rompers!

Reply

AHHHH that is awesome!!! Enjoy getting your mail today:)

Reply

Love all those summer dresses! Thanks for sharing!
I got in 26 miles last week. Working on getting back up to 30-40 after my race a few weeks ago.
My next race is a 10k in July. I like spring races and fall races for different reasons. I like having a spring race to train for over the long winter- keeps me motivated! And fall races are great for weather- cool and crisp air!

Have a great week!!

I’m currently training for a fall 50 miler, so my mileage last week was much lower than I wanted it to be…I need to work on hitting my weekday miles more consistently, because that’s where I’m blowing it. I did run a Ragnar Trail Relay this past weekend what was 15 miles of pretty difficult mountain trail running, so that kind of makes up for my week being on the lower side, but I should be at about 40 mile weeks right now (which is also my “sweet spot” in training mileage, although I’m headed into 50 and 60 mile weeks in the coming weeks of training so I need to get used to a new “sweet spot” whether I like it or not!)

Reply

Congrats on the Ragnar Trail Relay… I bet that was crazy hard! Good luck with all of your training for the 50 miler! You’ve got this Brenda!

Reply

I second that, you go Brenda!!! And I love that you did the Ragnar Relay, that is definitely on my running bucket list!

Reply

My goal this week is to not go on a binge after my 5 month old has gone to sleep for the night. I have armed myself with some dark chocolate in hopes that I won’t go overboard but will still have that treat that I crave. Hoping it works!

Reply

My bday is August 27. Summer days are the best! By brother is pretty lucky, cause his bday is the 4th of July. That would be the best. Favorite holiday.

Mileage was low last week, hopefully much higher this week.

Reply

It was race week for me so I ended up running somewhere in the 60’s. I love when my mileage is 70-80 miles per week. When it gets in the 90’s, my body gets cranky.
Next race: NYC! I love fall marathons but training for them is tough in the summer heat.
This week’s goal: race recovery!

Reply

Way to go with the training! You are killing it!

Reply

I’ll be training for the SEATTLE marathon in November. And I actually can’t wait for my training to start in just a few weeks.

Monday goals: get out side as much as possible, tape my American Ninja Warrior audition tape (kidding…kind of), eat tons of fresh fruit, bake cupcakes with the little one, and then awkwardly squirm and watching all the weirdness that is this season’s Bachelorette.

Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

Maybe you should look into modeling :)! Guess I had better get started training for my October 11th marathon oops!

Reply

My dad’s birthday is at the end of July. The rest of the family’s is in the fall and winter.

Reply

lowy dresses are my go to attire this summer – especially being in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Last week I was able to hike 15 miles and run 5 miles… just training for a healthy pregnancy and little boy. :) Hopefully I will do one more 10K or 5K before he arrives.

I can’t believe you already put in a 50 mile week in your training!! It’s only week 2! I have a feeling that this marathon is going to be “the one.”

Reply

Your dresses are cute! And I like the thought of a “naked run” — I don’t run often, but it seems like that would be an excellent way to think and appreciate your surroundings. I did hit a PR for sprinting in an Orangetheory class this week, so I guess that counts for something. Happy Monday, lady! :)

Reply

I love dresses in the summer. Partly because they are nice and airy… but mostly because I don’t have to pick out 2 articles of clothing, lol

Reply

You had such an amazing week of running! I want to try some of your workouts…maybe on a really hot summer day, I will hop back onto my treadmill and give them a whirl!

Reply

80 miles last week! My favourite amount is 80, but it’s hard to do with 6 kids. Eeep.

Reply

Janae,
You are a freaking rockstar. Your mileage and speeds from last week – holy cow! You have progressed so much as a runner and you deserve every ounce of that improvement and success. Thanks for putting yourself out there – it is so motivating to me to keep trying and pushing past what I think I can do.

Reply

I’m training for St George too, but I’m currently at 25 miles a week. I’m working very slowly to build up the mileage and it’s working for me so far. You are amazing, it is so encouraging to see you hit that mileage and complete your runs. This heat is killing me too! No access to a treadmill means SO MANY sweaty running clothes!

Reply

Did you hear how hot it was at the Cour D’ Alene Ironman yesterday? 108 and apparently they ran out of water on the bike course. I know a few people from my local triathlon club that had to DNF. I can’t even imagine having put in all that training and then have your dreams derailed by something like that.

My birthday is the first day of fall- but it sure still does feel like summer in So Cal even in late September.

Reply

Oh my goodness, Brooke is just the cutest ever. Her pig tails are the best. Also whatever that chocolate thing was, I’m in.

Reply

I’m in a week-long recovery from major oral surgery so dresses/getting-dressed isn’t happening. But those dresses do look comfy!

What is on the tray with the candles that Brooke is blowing-out? It looks like gooey goodness.. maybe popcorn or something tasty?

Reply

I’m doing the NYC marathon this fall….but I haven’t really started training yet. :)

Reply

My goal is less carbs. Last week was carb overload and its not like I am training for a race or anything.

Reply

Wow 50 miles in week two?! That’s cray. Great job lady!

I’m currently training for the Flagstaff Half, the Soulstice Trail Run, and a Ragnar this fall and then will jump straight into Marathon training for the IMS Marathon in Feb. It’s gonna be a busy summer/fall/winter!

Reply

I’ve been running bw 20-30 mpw. I’m running the Niagara falls marathon Oct 25, training starts next Monday!! I’m doing the run less run faster program, have you had success with that? It seems that you run 6days/week rather than my 3. I love spin class so that’s def one of my cross training days. I’ve seen som huge gains in speed already by mocking some of the runs. I’ve decreased my 1/2 marathon time by 20 mins!!!
My goal is to BQ Prob next year, fingers crossed!

Reply

I’m the same with naps and massive calories.. I was wondering what strength exercises you do? Do you have any good links? It’s something I’m only starting to do…

Reply

Cute summer dresses! I need to invest in a few, and hopefully keep them work-appropriate too! And heck yes to summer bbq’s!!

Reply

– I had 22 miles is last week, which is my highest so far :)
-I am training for an Ultra 50 km race in September, my first training and first Ultra!
-I’m a January baby
-This weeks goals are to stick with my training plan and to run a 20 km race on July 4th :) I’m scheduled for a 12 mile run this weekend so I’m running the 20 km to work on nutrition and stopping at aid stations.

Reply

Less carbs, more vegetables is my biggest goal for the week :)

Reply

Great job on the mileage and workouts last week!!!
When I am in a marathon cycle, I hit 50-55 miles per week. The goal is to slowly (slowly, slowly – no injury!) add more to that number. More mileage (for me) makes a faster marathon time. I am not one who can get away with 30 miles a week for marathon training :)
I want your Aunt’s dessert!!

Reply

I did ragnar 2 weeks ago and american fork 1/2 this past weekend so I haven’t gotten in as many weekly mileage as I would like due to tapering. I feel great around 35/40 per week. I am nervous for more, but since I am doing St. George, I will be increasing mileage pretty soon. I like spring races because I hate training in the heat and I oddly like the treadmill!

Reply

I have a summer birthday! And im training for a very very hilly half marathon on that day :) July 12

I am probably one of your oldest (if not the oldest) blog readers. I will be 65 on July 31 of this year. Yours is the first blog I read everyday and I never miss a post.

I’m training for my second EVER 10k. I’m technically obese. I could make a ton of excuses. But instead I’ll use them to MOTIVATE me and help me reach my goals!

Oh, and guacamole is ALWAYS a good life decision. :)

Reply

I love your dresses! So cute! My goal this week is to get up earlier so I have more time to exercise before my daughter wakes up :)

Reply

You are my hero for running that long on a treadmill. Treadmill running is always harder for me. I’m slower and it just is not fun. But I need to face the fact that I am going to have to do it this summer…and next winter, again. damn it.

Reply

24 miles for me last week – first week of marathon training! I’m training for the Marine Corps in October which is my first marathon ever! What do you do for injury prevention? I’ve had some hamstring and hip issues and want to get through training injury free.

Reply

All your dresses are adorable! I start training for my first half marathon after baby #2 next week :) It’s the Wild Hog Half Marathon coming up in four months. Should be fun! I’m still recovering after having baby so it will be interesting to see how gradually I need to increase my mileage. Taking it one week at a time!

Reply

I hit 70 miles last week. Low to mid 70’s is my favorite mileage range. I’m currently in taper mode for my first 50k (Buckeye Trail 50k on July 11th). I have the exact same fall marathon time goal as you do! Going for sub 3:00 at the Akron Marathon in September. Current pr is 3:07 from last fall. Do you prefer fast finish long runs or the marathon pace runs in the middle or do you do both? I love your blog!

Reply

I’m currently “training” for my first 5k since being back from an injury. I’m hoping to be able to move up to longer runs soon so I can start building up miles to be able to do another half soon but I’m trying to take it slow for now and not get too far ahead of myself!

Reply

I cherished time with my cousins growing up! I’m glad Brooke is getting to do the same :)
