Monday Matters!

I have a few matters to talk to you about today.

-Can somebody PLEASE find a way to slow down time.  She is going to be 15 before I know it (I have a tendency to be a little bit dramatic but really… I just need time to slow down).

-I think Brooke loves the splash pad even more than the pool.

-My post-run hairstyles are always pretty interesting. Yes, that is one huge snarl on top of my head.

IMG 1717

-Just an awkward photo shoot with the sis-in-law.  Our specialty.  I really wish I could magically move them back to Utah.

IMG 1683

-I’d like to introduce you to my new repeat song.  I cannot get enough of Rachel’s music.

IMG 1773

 -Just keeping things casual.

IMG 1617

-Yes, yes she does.

IMG 1716

-I locked both sets of keys in my car today (luckily Brooke was outside with me).  The police were there within 5 minutes and they were so nice, gave us stickers and unlocked my car right away.  They saved the day.

IMG 1804

-I am just thankful that my nieces love a great car dance party as much as I do.  This one was after our fancy dinner date last week and it was pretty amazing.

IMG 1718

-Wow.  Harriette became the oldest woman to finish a marathon!  She completed the RNR San Diego Marathon yesterday in 7 hours and 7 minutes!!  Her story is incredible and reading about her gave me the goosebumps.

Megan sent me this flashback to the past picture last night.  Brooke’s first bday party where I went a little overboard with food and decorations.

-This morning I got outside for a run and I even did a bunch of hills.  Two things that don’t happen much so that was a great way to start off the week.  Brooke did her phone call with her dad at my mom’s house so I spent 5 hot miles outside.

I’m doing RNR Seattle in a couple weeks, if I can find somewhere to stay that is. (My plan fell through five minutes ago. Lame.) Ive done this race every single year in its existence!

My kids grew out of napping years ago, I’m still in the habit. I’ll never give it up.

That marathon story is incredible – what a great mental practice, going over piano pieces!

Also can I just mention how I so wish I could pull off Rachel Platten’s wavy bob?

I’ve done the RnR VA Beach, but they’re just so much more expensive than smaller races! Definitely worth it for the experience, swag, and bands though.

Monday matters: I’m pretty sure the world has gone crazy and everyone is grumpy. But I’m not. And I’m tired of being around grumpy people!

I’ve done RNR Nashville twice and this past year did RNR DC. I’m signed up for RNR Chicago in July. I love their races because they pump me up!

I lose socks. All the time. I think I could buy a car with the money I spend on socks. (especially the expensive running ones)

I LOVE your necklace in the last photo!

I’ve done RNR Vegas, Seattle and Denver. They always put on a great race! I got engaged before RNR Seattle in 2012 so it’s a pretty special race!

I lose my phone all the time. I set it down somewhere and can’t remember where I put it. I’m always asking my husband to call my phone, which only helps when I remember to take it off silent after work!

That lady is amazing!! So impressed!!!

I actually don’t lose any of those things very often…although I have locked my keys in my car a time or two. Good thing I have a spare and really nice friends!

Reply

That woman is seriously incredible. I have down RNR Chicago and Las Vegas. I am signed up for DC next year as well!!

Reply

WOW! That is the most inspirational story I’ve ever read!!

Reply

Oh my gosh! What an inspiring story!! So, so cool! I hope I am still enjoying running when I am her age! :)

I rarely lose my keys, but I lose my phone all.the.time. Usually ends up being buried in my purse, or even worse – in my hand. (Major facepalm.)

I registered for the rock n roll half in St. Pete and then they cancelled it. I was sad :( I’ve always wanted to run it. Maybe I’ll go to Savannah and run one….Its only 6 or 7 hours away.

Reply

I did RnR Pasadena, Los Angeles, and Long Beach! Super fun.

We got a new cat! and he’s very cute. I want to leave work and go play with him hahaha. Would prefer a dog, but a cat will do.

I lock my keys in my car ALL. THE. TIME. I only have AAA to get my keys out of my car. I lock them in there probably once a month or so? Usually in the ignition…

I love how Harriette finishes a marathon w/ lipstick on! A woman I can relate to. But seriously, how inspiring! I’m in awe of her.

Reply

I was going to do the RNR here in Chicago but I will be in LA for Blogfest. Plus, it is in the middle of the summer and I don’t know if I can handle all that.

Reply

Phone, without a doubt. Google has this thing where you can make it ring even when it’s on vibrate, which can help. But no luck if it’s off.

Reply

I think I lose my mind the most?!?! (or at least that is how I feel when parenting my 8.5 yo).

I have run RnR Seattle, Portland and Vancouver BC.

Monday matters……..hmmm…..work day is almost over!! :)

Reply

I’ve done lots of RnRs! Always good races. My favorite so far is Nashville :)

Reply

That 92 year old lady is pretty inspiring!

Reply

I’ve never run a RnR race before – closest one is 2+ hours away. I would love to run Seattle, San Diego, Arizona and Brooklyn RnR races one day, but that would be really expensive :-(

I am always losing socks and hair elastics!

Reply

Harriette is my hero. What an inspiration!

I did RNR in Denver last October (one week after my wedding!) and plan to do it again this year.

I finally took your suggestion of eating grapes with cottage cheese. I don’t know what I was waiting for…I should have tried it long ago! Delish!

Reply

The past 4 months I’ve been losing a lot of sleep. Does that count as losing something? I do have to go ahead and blame my 4 months old on that one, though ;)

Reply

I’m obsessed with Rachel Platten’s Fight Song right now.
I somehow manage to lose my phone in our small apartment at least twice a day. I also lose socks all the time, even though I put them in laundry bags to keep them together.
I’ve never done an RNR race, although RNR Seattle sounds so fun and is right in my backyard (well, as long as there’s not bad traffic over Lake Washington).

I totally get the “kids growing up too fast” thing. Today I dropped my 5-year-old off for a morning of Lego camp. I wanted to get a picture of her and she goes, “Mom, you’re sooo embarrassing!”
Um, is she 5 or 13?

Reply

I was thinking about the 92 year old incredible woman all weekend! So awesome!
I lose my keys all the time!
Yes. Please stop time. My kiddos are growing way too fast…

Reply

My only matter of the day is that I really need to do laundry. Like no longer and option but I just want to nap. It’s rainy out and I have to walk to the laundromat…

I’m signed up to do my first RNR half in Montreal in September. I’ve heard good things about them.

Please tell me you have something to do with this one! http://www.froyo5k.com/salt-lake-city/?gclid=CKeY9p_B78UCFViUfgodmAwAqg

hahah I WISH I could take credit for that. SO much fun!

A couple of weeks ago I was having a pretty hard day so I loaded my kids in the car to go get my moms running stroller. (I hate running with a stroller so this happens next to never). Anyway after my run, I put both the girls in the car, threw my keys and phone in the front seat, buckled the three year old in, and shut the door to go to the other side of the car and buckle the 18 month old in. By the time I got around there, she had climbed up to the front and locked me out. Parents weren’t home, phone in the car, oldest couldn’t unbuckle herself. Lucky for me I know where the spare key is so I went and got my parents iPad to email my husband to come rescue us. Then it started raining. Needless to say, I was in need of a special lunch. We went to El Azteca.

I’m pretty good about not losing things.. I just misplace them. haha wasn’t on your list, but my ID/Drivers License. idk why.. but I always lose it.!! I’ve bought like 3 new ones the past year. and I lost it again.! augh another trip to the darn DMV to get a new one.
Brooke was so tiny there.! time does go way too fast. : /

Reply

I’ve done both RNR San Diego 3x and San Jose 1/2 3x. It’s been years since I’ve done another RNR event. They’ve gotten too big and they are just plain expensive so don’t even bother with them anymore.

I lose my phone all the time esp now with a 2yo around.

Reply

I misplace my sunglasses most frequently. Thankfully I am normally able to find them in no time.

Something random to share… I have an itch to travel. I don’t care how I get there, but I want to go some place new and explore. If only money weren’t an issue.

Reply

I’ve done Rock n Roll DC , Providence and Raleigh. I always enjoy the Rock N Roll races. I used to lose all my important items way too often but I have gotten better about it lately…knock on wood!! I feel like every time you post a picture of Brooke I feel like she is growing up so fast, and I don’t even know you guys in real life! I can’t image in how it is for you!

Reply

I never know where my keys are. It’s bad. Glad the police were able to help you out!

Reply

RnR San Diego was actually my first half marathon. I was living there at the time, so it was an obvious choice. I rain it again the next year, but haven’t done that one in awhile. I’ve also done RnR SF the last 3 years in a row, and RnR Seattle last year as well!

Reply

Such a motivating story about the 92 y o marathon finisher. She made me want to go outside and put in a few miles but it’s raining here today.
Yesterday, I got caught in a freak storm and I ran all the way home in bucketfuls of rain and lightning splitting the sky open. SCARY! I was so happy when I came inside, an old man at the door of my building held the door. For a moment, I thought he might have been an angel, plus I’ve never seen him before.

Reply

Ohh I need to go listen to that song! And I laugh in the face of naps too! haha

Reply

That marathon story just made my night, how incredible!

Reply

I’ve run Denver…because I live in Denver and it’s a great race…I don’t love the Rock n Roll because they are HUGE and kind of obnoxious but what the hell. I’ll run anything and they do have a little appeal.

LOVE the naps t shirt.

I lose whatever is important. It’s a thing….

Reply

I rarely misplace my cell phone, but today I was talking on my cell…and as I’m talking, I’m literally thinking “where is my phone? Where did I leave my phone? Did I leave it in my car?!?”
yeah, it was one of those days…

Reply

We just found out the closing date for our house…we should probably start packing…

I lose my phone a lot, but usually just in a “which room did I leave it in” kind of way.

Reply

What an inspiring story!! I recently started to enjoy running and I am almost 30. Sometimes I wish I started running in my younger years but then seeing how Harriette is at her 90s and still finishing races gives me more motivation to keep running! Thanks for sharing! :)

Reply

I love Brooke..she melts my heart. My Mr. 8 is much closer to 13.

Reply

I just did RnR San Diego and loved it! Saw harriette being interviewed at the expo and she was so cute and spunky! Also tried salted caramel gu during the race for the first time and LOVED it so thanks for that suggestion :) I was so over berry flavors!

Reply

I’ve done Rock ‘n Roll Half in Dallas. It was a pretty fun race, and it was nice to have music at almost every mile!

I’m pretty good about not losing things, but I have a bad habit of leaving packs of gum and chapstick in one purse, switching purses, and then finding the gum or chapstick months later when I go back to that purse. However, most recently I did lose a really important flash drive. It’s not a good situation. :/

Reply

I metaphorically died after seeing Brooke’s casual stance + the banana in hand.

Reply

LOL the banana pose. Love it. San Jose RNR was my first half marathon ever!

Reply

Omg ha ha ha ha!!!! You locked BOTH sets of keys in your car?!? My friend Lora and I were dressed up as peacocks (Halloween costume) and a nice man helped me coathanger my way into my car (keys locked in the backseat) and when he finally got the door open, I shrieked, hugged him, and then slammed the car door shut, LOCKED, with my keys still sitting in the backseat. So, there’s that. And so I win in the Loser Category. One hundred points.

Reply

Rnroll events are awesome! I did rnr Los Angeles 1/2 marathon 3 years in a row, rnr providence RI 1/2 marathon and rnr Pasadena, CA 1/2 marathon, they r a blast and very well organized and super fun!

Reply

It looks so warm and sunny there! Apparently London has forgotten that it is supposed to be June and it is cold, grey and raining :(

Reply

I lose my sunglasses the most! That’s why I buy such cheap ones from Walgreens or CVS!

Reply

Harriette is so inspiring!
I too need time to slow the heck down, I have a 5 y.o when did that happen?!

Reply

I have done the Nashville RNR…….. they call it the Country Music Marathon…I loved it but it was one of the bigges races in the country and was 1 week after Boston bombings so it was packed….30,000 runners!

I misplace hair bands and bobby pins and chapstick the most!

Reply

what is it with people locking their keys in their cars lately?!? Both my friend and I did it over the weekend. Glad to see you were able to get it fixed so quickly! I didn’t know the police could help if you locked your keys in your car. That’s good to know!

Reply

I did the RnR Vancouver last fall and I’m signed up to do it again this year! You will like Seattle; it’s a beautiful city!

Reply

Hmmm who does that plaid shirt belong to in your fancy dinner night car dance party picture? Hmmmmm….

Reply

Holy Smokes! Brooke was teeny tiny. She’s such a grown up now.

Reply

Totally with you on making time slow down. We just put our almost 3 year old in a twin bed. I wanted to cry :-( She also laughs in the face of naps…literally. Yesterday while we were eating lunch I said, “We’ll go play outside after this,” and her response was, “Then we’ll come in and take a nap! ahaha!” Literally laughing after she said what she knew she was supposed to do. Sigh.

Reply

Oh my goodness Brooke is so small in that picture! I can’t believe how much she has grown :)

Reply

My first marathon was PF Chang’s RNR in Phoenix. It was not my favorite though! I can’t believe the police came to unlock your car! I’ve always had to call a locksmith!

Reply

You called the police when you locked your keys in your car?!?

I’m a longtime reader and enjoy your blog but internet-girlfriend-to-girlfriend I have to tisk-tisk at this… really, just too ridiculous. Get AAA or call a tow company and stop pulling the police away from more important things.

Reply

I thought of you when I saw that marathoner’s story, what an awesome accomplishment!
