A Time Saver Workout and Thursday Things!!!

I got to spend some quality time (my favorite love language) with the treadmill.

My coach is good at keeping treadmill workouts interesting for me so the 11 miles actually went by pretty quickly.

IMG 3275

Here’s how it went:

You do each set just once and move on through all 5 sets consecutively.  That cruise interval pace had me working by the end.

Adjust the paces to where you are at for your current fitness level!

IMG 3248

I had to do the cool down at a bit faster pace in order to get Brookers but other than that I hit the times right on.  7:32 average pace for the eleven miles.  I scored the treadmill where you can go for longer than 60 minutes:)

Thursday things time:

-Every time Brooke rides in the car she switches her shoes to the wrong feet while we drive.

IMG 3282

-I have a giveaway on my Instagram for an iFit Active Band if you want to enter it HERE!

IMG 3175

MK sent me a picture of this goodness.  Gum plus my favorite fruity candy?  I must find.

IMG 20150623 154942

-I always find it hard to find the perfect thing to eat before evening workouts.  This toast/almond butter/banana has become my pre-bootcamp fuel.  I eat it about 30 minutes before bootcamp and it works like a charm to get me through 45 minutes of weights/intervals/craziness.  I have dinner after class.

-Time to sign up for your Women’s Running Subscription!! It is the perfect time to get in running shape this summer and their articles and tips always motivate me to get out the door.  Less than $1.50 an issue!!!  Go HERE!!

-My friend stayed at my house while I was gone a few weekends ago the night before she ran the UV Marathon.  She left this beet juice in my fridge and I don’t know why it is still there because I can’t think of anything that would taste worse than beet juice.

IMG 3202

-Potbelly.  I drove past it the other day and had to stop to take a picture because I was so excited about it.  I used to schedule my layovers in airports that had one of these sandwich shops because I loved them so much.  I now can drive to one.  My quality of life has just increased.

IMG 3196

-Some of the crew hanging out in the mountains before my friend’s proposal.

IMG 3139

-HOW DO PEOPLE GO ON THESE!?!?!  I get sick just watching people on these crazy rides at the carnival that spin for 5 minutes straight.  I can’t imagine actually paying to go on one of those.

IMG 3014

-My mom sent this to me.  It explains her and Brooke’s relationship perfectly.

IMG 2361

-Always fun to open up a snapchat and find yourself sleeping at a time that you should not be sleeping.  Hopefully I wasn’t snoring.  I tend to snore.

IMG 2285

-Blurry picture but seeing Brooke with her friends always makes me really happy.

If you are an evening worker outer—>  what do you eat before your workout?

Fruity gum, minty gum or no gum?

-All of the gum for me please.

Sometimes I have a pb&j sandwich, sometimes a Honey Stinger Waffle (which I sometimes top with pb or j, because why not?). Sometimes just an apple. Occasionally a s’more. Again, why not?

The beet juice makes me laugh. There was a pallet of those things at the UV Marathon expo…and there was alot left! I thought the same thing…I don’t know how that can be good! (And I watched someone try it and they obviously didn’t think it was good!)

Beet juice stains like crazy, too… I wonder what your teeth would look like after?!

Reply

I LOVE beets and eat them every night in my salad! You are correct about them staining everything…my dentist kept wondering how my teeth were staining so quickly (I’m not a coffee, tea or soda drinker)…the beets are the culprit

That treadmill workout looks fun! Definitely one I’ll try once I am done with marathon training.
I strength train in the evenings and usually have a fruit and yogurt or an apple with peanut butter about an hour beforehand.
No gum! I quit it a few years ago.
I’d probably drink the beet juice, but that’s because I’m one of about three people in the world who was born with weird enough taste buds to love beets.

I do my boot camp at 5:30 am- there is an evening class too, but I’ve never made it in over a year of classes! I did go for a short run with some puppies I’m pet-sitting for last night at sunset and it was fantastic!

Fruity!

Walked more than I ran today but it is SO HOT & HUMID!

Reply

I am w/you on the beet juice. I would not be able to try it either.
I work out pre-dawn. Evenings are for full on relaxing for me!
Thursday matters = leave tomorrow for a weekend getaway to the mountains. YAY.
I’m all about gum but my favorite is Sweet Mint by Orbit. #addicted

Beet juice is supposed to be helpful for running at an altitude, if you are moving to a higher elevation. Supposedly :)

Reply

Fruity gum, fruity gum, fruity gum! Except lemon (hence my not purchasing the aforementioned Trident Layers ;) )

Also that picture of Brooke just reinforces my opinion that little kid hugs are the most genuine hugs EVER.

I’ve totally routed layovers through Dulles because they have a Potbelly’s! Glad to know I’m not the only one. That place is delicious!

I saw that gum last night at Target. I almost bought it as a present for him for his bday today. He loves Swedish Fish. I bought him sour gummy worms instead. Wait. Don’t you like those too? So you have the same taste as a 6 year old boy ;)

Lindsey’s snap is freakin hilarious. Must be the late nights…

Ross took the kids to Strawberry Days last year. I did not attend since it was hot, I was huge with child and I am lame like that. They went on the ride that goes in circles and then up in the air. I am actually super surprised Annabelle went on it because she is a huge wuss. Ross said it was the scared for their life because the ride was so questionable.

Give Megan that beet juice. Give me the tru moo. Problem solved. You’re welcome.

toast + peanut/almond butter + banana is my favorite thing to eat before workouts, especially a run.
that last picture of brooke and her friend is adorable!

Gotta get me some of that gum! I don’t even like chewing gum!

Reply

What’s your snapchat name? Mine is @erin.fairchild I’d love to add you!

I don’t know how evening worker-outers do it. I always eat too much. haha and than I don’t even want to get off of the couch. But that sandwich looks like a good option :)
I like all kinds of gum. Don’t really chew it often though.
Yeaa roller coasters are scary.! idk how people do it. lol

I prefer to work out in the morning. I don’t eat anything before but will have a banana and big glass of water ready to chug when I’m done.

I love gum in general. I’m not picky!

I’m spending my afternoon downtime planning my trip to run the NYC Marathon and getting really excited!!

Reply

I have been running at 7 in the evenings to try and avoid the worst of the heat, and I go ahead and eat my full dinner between 5 and 5:15. I can’t run on an empty stomach but I need time for whatever I do eat to move on down a bit. :)

No gum! I have TMJ. I’m actually getting a fancy bite guard from the dentist next week.

Reply

I definitely prefer morning workouts.
No gum for me.
Thursday things: we took a bike tour all over Denver. It was such a fun way to explore the city!

Reply

I usually work out in the morning and have scrambled eggs and a piece of cinnamon raisin bread w almond butter on it. So good.

Reply

I work out in the evenings. We eat dinner around 5:30 or 6, and I work out around 7:30 or 8. So that’s usually enough time for me to digest it all and be ok. Sometimes I’ll eat a really light dinner, like a small sandwich or a carnation about an hour before, if it’s a hard work out.

Gum. Usually mint but flavored is a great switch up. Let me just give you this little tip: if you haven’t already heard of xylitol (zy-la-tol) it’s an ingredient in some gums that helps keep your teeth healthy. It kills some of the bad bacteria in your mouth. It has to be #3 or higher on the ingredients list for it to work right. My favorite one to get is the Mentos gum. But you can also get plain xylitol gum at health food stores I believe.

I read Women’s Running faithfully. Great publication. I also like their online bloggers – that’s you Janae.

You just made me smile real big. Thank you so much Johanna!

Reply

That workout looks great! I usually don’t work out in the evening but occasionally I will do a strength workout or take a yoga class. I’ll either eat a larabar or an apple with peanut butter. I am usually starving by the time I’m done though!

Reply

I went looking for your IG giveaway and couldn’t find it!!
On another note — LOVE Women’s Running. Wish it didn’t cost so much in Canada — even on a subscription it works out to something like $5 an issue. Makes me a sad panda.

Reply

If I do an evening workout I like some cottage cheese and grapes. Your go-to :). I am a minty gum person and Thursday things would be a meeting with Saucony which included some awesome P.F Changs and getting see the Spring 16 line!!

Reply

-I’m a morning worker outer for sure. I like to get my sweat sesh done nice and early :)
– Minty gum!!! It lasts longer!

Reply

Beet juice is supposed to boost your stamina and it’s a great anti inflammatory. If you can get past the taste, it’s great for a runner. Just sayin….

Reply

I’m all about the fruity gum!

Reply

My love for Extra Watermelon gum is way unhealthy :)

I am a morning exerciser all the way! I am useless after 3pm, people who can get their game together to workout in the evening always impress me!

Reply

Yum Potbelly’s! In Chicago there was a special sandwich this spring – California Turkey Flat – flatbread, turkey, cheese, avocado and cucumbers. It is really good, and they will still make it by request even though not officially on the menu. My favorite Potbelly’s sandwich.

When I work out in the evening I will either have a larabar, or I will save part of my lunch for late afternoon. I am more of a morning worker outer though.

Your treadmill work out looks fun – I might try it this weekend. Right now my paces seem to all be at the speed of slow :) ….. I was starting to get into a running groove (and seeing improvement), but last weekend I got food poisoning and it seems like I lost the momentum. Yesterday I ran for the first time, and it didn’t feel too good. Maybe another day of rest will help. GRRR.

Have you ever tried a sweet potato with almond butter on it? May sound strange, but that is my go to pre-workout snack!

Reply

Okay. I have never tried that but that sounds AMAZING!!! I must have that soon!!!

Reply

Too much gum. Chain chewers anonymous.

PotBelly cookies are really just so good I can’t even talk about it. Brb drooling.

Reply

Chain chewers – Amen. I’ve been known to go through a pack a day. And I chew two pieces at a time… shhhh.

Reply

I think we just became best friends.

Reply

Yum! Potbelly cookies are so amazing. Always barely cooked. The chocolate chip oatmeal and sugar cookie are the best ever. Always have to get both of course!

Reply

I used to love orbit bubble mint gum. I will totally try the Swedish fish gum. I am currently chomping on spearmint gum but it’s lost it’s flavor. I wish it was pork lomein gum. Lol. So hungry.

I had a super long day of work. Still commuting home. Food on the mind. So hungry :)

Reply

SkinnyMargarita’s that tasted stronger than I remember…..

Reply

I am OCD about having fun and lipgloss on me at all times. I always think stride is the best!

Reply

Same! Stride flavor lasts the longest!

Beet juice is HUGE in the cycling racing world! Most of the elites drink it, as well as those of us that want a boost for race week. There is actually quite a bit of research out there. Has to do with opening up blood vessels to allow more blood to skeletal muscle. It tastes pretty terrible, but we mix ours with orange juice and it is okay. Funny, my 2 year old BEGS for it straight!
If you try it, be aware, when you go to the bathroom, you are not in fact going to die. Things get a bit colorful

Reply

My sweet boys saw theTrident Swedish Fish the other day and bought it for me. That is love.

Reply

Ok so here is my question…anyone can answer if you have an opinion…
Do you chew gum when you run? I do…like always….a must have! I decided yesterday to try not chewing gum on my runs and my mouth got SO dry. Yesterday and today…why is that? Does that mean I am dehydrated…or just weird :)? But I am fine if I have gum..

Reply

I have never commented before but I feel like I have to reply! I knew someone who passed away after choking on a piece of gum while out on a solo run…sorry to be a downer, but be careful!

Reply

:0!!!!!!!!!

Reply

I’m the same way…always have gum when I work out…running & cycling….but not swimming! My mouth feels really dry without it.

Reply

Two things: get the beet juice in capsule form- so much easier to take…and try swapping out blueberries for the banana on the toast/almond butter…delish! I don’t know what it is about blueberries this year but I just can’t seem to get enough off them!!

Reply

I don’t chew gum often, but I prefer the minty flavors. They seem to last longer.

I LOVE Potbelly. Their cookies are SO good. When I was in the Portland airport in April, I rejoiced when I saw it!!

Your pictures always have such beautiful background views of the mountains–love it!!

Reply

WHY do kids love to put their sandals, shoes and boots on the wrong feet?? That picture is hilarious and brought back a lot of good memories!

Reply

Now I feel awkward because I like beetroot juice :D But maybe here in Poland we have it in better taste? or maybe I’ve never thought I could not like it? ;)

Reply

I feel ya! Beet juice just sounds gross!

That carnival ride is making me sick just looking at it. I never did the crazy flippy ones growing up, but I used to like roller coasters a lot; the older I get though…I can’t handle them anymore. And don’t even get me started on heights!

I’ll usually eat a KIND bar before an evening workout. And, I don’t chew a lot of gym, but I prefer minty when I have coffee breath or ate something that is lingering and fruity just for fun.

Reply

Peanut butter and banana on toast is one of my favorites! If I feel like I need fuel for longer I’ll put it on a bagel instead of just one piece of toast.

Reply

-I really make it a point to work out in the mornings. I struggle with evening workouts.
-No gum for me. Altoids :)
-Thursday: Worked, then a quick trip the Runners (I had to use major self control in that store, hello happy place). Then dinner just me and my daughter. :)

Reply

hmmm. I am a fan of beet juice. I like apple almond butter combo pre workout.
I wish I liked bananas because I know they are good for my body, just cant get past the taste. :(
I completely agree about the carnival rides, even as a kid I NEVER liked the dizzy feeling. I think I have a bit of vertigo and I sometimes get motion sick ness (sometimes not???) I think that is tied to how well hydrated I am.

Reply

I got a can of that beet juice from a recent expo i went to. It’s in my fridge but i’m too scared to try it.

Reply

Yeah that beet juice sounds…. healthy? I guess? That’s about it haha

Reply

I love beet juice! But, I love beets… :)

I’m a morning workout person, so if I run in the evening, I don’t really snack before. I’m also really into cinnamon gum right now.

Reply

I workour after work. I tell ya what it is hard to push through those and I always commend myself for doing so. I usually eat a snack at work before my workout.

Reply

I’ve had beet juice in blends before and I don’t think it’s too bad. Columbia Gorge has a good one that is beet, carrot and celery which always amazes me that I like since those are about my 3 least favorite foods.

Reply

no gum for me!

Reply

That picture that your mom sent you definitely describes my mom perfectly as well!! Grandmas/Nanas are the best! :)

Reply

I don’t really eat before I run at night, but I am so thirsty afterwards! And it takes about half an hour before I feel hungry after a run.

I love gum, but try not to chew it too much.

Reply

I’m confused a bit by your workout. The total time as prescribed by your coach was 60 minutes if I’m doing the math right, but your treadmill readout says you ran over 82 minutes, but you say you ran the cool down faster? Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose of the cool down? And why was there an added 20+ minutes to what your coach gave you?

Sorry if I’m asking dumb questions. I’m actually studying to coach and I’m trying to figure out how different coaches design workouts. I’m interested in how your training works for you this cycle as you try to reach your sub-3 hr goal :)

Reply

Oops – I added wrong… that should be a 70 minute workout as your coach assigned. Sorry.

We have a Tuesday night track workout with our running store. I work until 5 and the track workout starts at 6. I usually eat a Picky Bar around 4:30 and then we pig out on Chipotle on our way home. It’s my favorite night of the week. :)

I used to have gum in my mouth nearly every waking moment. Now I can’t even think the last time I chewed some. I gave up almost all artificial sweeteners a few years ago, so it doesn’t appeal to me anymore.

Reply

Hey I definitely appreciate the content, I am somewhat new to routinely working outs but the information you presented was definitely helpful for getting further into running. Its funny all I did was get started with this anabolic running program (https://21254zzasdkcskv3s4mlt7nob1.hop.clickbank.net/) and it has sent me on this workout kick.

Keep the posts coming! I really needed a post about a time saver workout to keep me on track.
