10 miles in a windy canyon and a proposal!

The first long run of this marathon training cycle was completed yesterday.  Just 15 more weeks until race day;)

IMG 3078

We ran up the canyon for the first five miles and we had a headwind the whole way up.  I just kept telling myself that the weather/wind/temps rarely are perfect on race day so the more practice I get doing the hard stuff, the better I will feel on race day.  Plus the tailwind on the way back down felt pretty darn good.

10 miles @ 7:43 average pace.

I went back to my mom’s house after my run and got to chat with her for a while before Brooke woke up.  We then made it to Costco right as it was opening to get the supplies for Father’s Day dinner.  We are hosting it at our house tonight which means I will make way too much food and there will probably be a lot of dessert options.

IMG 3096

Next up for our Saturday activities—>  We went and saw a few more of the houses in the Parade of Homes.  This one had a sweet rooftop deck.  Brooke mainly just loved wearing the blue booties all over the place.

We came upon a donut truck so…..

Once it hit 8 pm we had a very important event to attend.

One of our very good friends got engaged and we were there to help out.

It was so beyond perfect.

No long run this weekend, it’s way too hot and I’m not training so I’m sticking to short, fast treadmill runs. Obviously no wind here either. At 8AM this morning the heat index is going 90.

Fun Sunday plans: kayaking!

The wind in Kansas is crazy. We have days with gusts at 50+ mph and a day with sustained 20+ mph winds is pretty common. Wind is no fun.

Celebrating Fathers Day at my parents house with my dad and uncle today and we celebrated with my grandpa last night – it was double celebration for my grandpa, Father’s Day and his 100th birthday!!

CUTE PROPOSAL! Brooke looks like a little flower-girl-in-training!

Good luck hosting tonight!

It gets SO windy in Vegas, not cool at all during a run! Today, I’m taking my dad to a Father’s Day bootcamp and then later on we are having all the fathers over for dinner :)

This time of year AZ gets pretty windy as the monsoons are starting up. I think training in the wind is so much better though. It forces you tonoushbthat extra bit harder. I’ve had to stick to the treadmill and keep my workouts short lately. I’m still being cautious after being injured last year. The run/walk method seems to be working well for me. I feel like a zillion pounds heavy after not running for so long. Why is it that we lose our fitness so fast? I certainly can go the distance because my endurance is good but fitness / pace I’m a snail.

What an awesome proposal! Wow!

Have a great day with your dad today!

I’m actually taking the day off today from working out. It’s been nice to just relax and hang out with the family this morning.

That proposal is incredible. How cute and glad you could help out with it!

I hate running in the wind!Worst weather condition in my opinion :) I ran long on Friday to free up some weekend time and it was great. Enjoy Father’s Day with your family!

Wow the pictures from the run are gorgeous! In Seattle visiting with family so lots going on this weekend :)

It’s pretty much always windy here in Chicago. You get used to the wind. I think it’s a great strength training tool!

I am having my family over for father’s day and we’re cooking burgers.

Happy Sunday!

I did my longest run I’ve done in a while this morning. It went well, but my legs are exhausted. I need to get back in shape…

Today will consist of church, froyo, grocery store, nap and Father’s Day dinner with the fam. Hopefully it will be sunny enough for some pool time, too!

It’s pretty much never windy here in Memphis. Stagnant, hot summer air is part of our charm!

My proposal story is pretty simple: We were chatting about our relationship, we both knew we loved each other, so the question was just WHEN to get married — and we kind of said to each other, how about next year? OK, then, next year it is!

It was 1996 when we had that conversation. We’ve been married 18 years(!) now. We also got hitched at city hall, so we don’t have a big wedding story to tell either. Works for us, though. :)

Running against the wind is great training. I don’t mind running in the wind, but cycling on the other hand…

One of my friends is training for Ironman Canada and has a 17-mile run on her schedule today. Because I am pregnant and can no longer run that far, I am biking next to her for support. Should make for a fun morning. :)

Otherwise, I am just waiting for my husband to get back from a fishing trip so we can celebrate Fathers Day (or, dad-to-be day).

Have a wonderful day!

Aw that proposal looks stunning! How romantic :)
Long run after church then seeing jurassic world with my dad.

Reply

My husband proposed on my birthday. So that made it awesome.

I’ve never been to the parade of homes. I feel like I’d get too antsy to buy something that’s way out of budget haha. It looks fun to go through though.

Reply

I think I’m going to take it easy today since I ran more during the week than normal.
Enjoying family time on the husbands side grilling out! My husband had brought me to where he asked me out for the first time by telling me he thought he lost something in that area. He proposed in the same exact spot! Sweet!
Wind here is never consistent so you never know what you’re going to have on a given day! Slight breeze is my favorite though!

Reply

Holy proposal… I hope she said yes!!!

I think I would be looking at the decorations so much to miss the proposal ;) So pretty!

Have a great day with your daddy-o!

My husband actually proposed to me after finishing his very first Boston Marathon! It was so special and definitely a day I will never forget!

Reply

I did my long run on friday. So today I’m just running whatever. Lol
It has been windy lately. No fun.

Watermelon sounds soo good, but jelly or creamy filled donuts sound soo gross. I just can’t eat them

No long run for me this weekend. I had a half last week and next week marks the beginning of my marathon training. Plus we moved this week and the house is chaos.

It gets pretty windy here, though we’re in an area with a lot of trees, so that keeps the crazy wind to a minimum.

My fun Sunday plans consist of finding the box with the towels in it and getting organized for work this week. Thrilling, no?

Reply

That’s such an adorable proposal!! I hope she said yes:)
I got engaged last year at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We had a beach front room and every day we would go out to the beach and see the sun rise. On the last day, I went out and there was a heart in the sand with rose petals and a message in a bottle…at the end of reading it he was on one knee! After I said yes I looked at the water and saw a few dolphins jumping in the water…it was perfect.

Reply

That looks like such a wonderful proposal. Having some dads (and moms and kiddos) over for a cookout today after church. Should be lots of fun!

Reply

Congrats to your friend! What a beautiful proposal!
My husband proposed to me at the chapel at where we both went to college. We later got married at that chapel!
Yesterday was a 10 mile long run followed by a long hike, so today I’m sore and resting up.
Have a great Sunday!

I LOVE ENGAGEMENTS OH MY GOSH!

It only gets really windy during the winter and when a big storm is coming. Otherwise it’s not bad.
Only plans today include grocery shopping, bathing suit shopping, soccer for my little one and then to my parents for a Fathers Day BBQ and swim!

I’m gong to try for a long run today. It’s super hot and humid and already 11am and I am struggling to get going.
I am widowed but my marriage proposal was sort of after the fact. He was undergoing cancer treatment and we said if the liver biopsy came back negative we would go to city hall and tie the knot. After the results came in negative I noticed he was online researching getting married in Las Vegas. So he fessed up and we decided to elope. But I still never expected the whole down on one knee thing. About 7 days before we flew to Vegas we finished eating dinner and he went to the silver ware drawer and pulled out the most beautiful engagement ring and got down on one knee. I was stunned. :) I only got to wear it for 5 months. He passed away from the cancer. It’s been 16 years and I really want to make another piece of jewelry out of it. :)

This made me a little teary. Beautiful proposal! I’m so sorry for your loss, even all these years later.

I love that running shirt!! My husband proposed to me with a cookie cake! It was pretty perfect! :D

That proposal looks beautiful! My husband propose when we went for a run!
Running is something that we both enjoy and brought us together so he figure out that this should be the best to do it! And I loved him for it!

My husband proposed to me on the Highpoint of Arkansas. We were on a road trip and as a Highpointer I had to pick off two more peaks on the way home. He asked “will you marry me?” I said, “are you serious?” And the rest is history. 7 years dating to married, 7 years married to pregnant, and now Baxton is 2.5

Did you have a long run this weekend? How’d it go? Yes! Also 10 miles! My 23rd marathon is the original, Athens, in November. Is it weird to run long uphill for half and then downhill for half? I am thinking about continuing that all the way to 20 milers….

Does it get pretty windy where you live? Not bad, except when we are on top of Mt Vitosha (Sofia, Bulgaria).

Fun Sunday plans?! We had a big Fathers Day breakfast and a big dinner too. Mostly just normal play and fun though.

Long run was yesterday and it was hot!

Taking my dad out for dinner tonight- he requests burgers and milkshakes:)

Reply

I was supposed to run 11 miles today but haven’t made it outside my hotel room on account of being hit pretty bad by a cold yesterday. I’m taking dayquil and drinking lots of water hoping to feel better by tomorrow. :/

Just ordered the v-neck.. so cute! Good luck with this training cycle!!

No long run this weekend. Just exploring Alaska. :)

No long run this weekend, just a midnight 5K on Friday night.

That’s so cool that you got to help with the proposal!!! My husband tied a bow around our puppy with the ring attached. She ran to see me, I bent over to see her and he got down on one knee. :)
My long run was pretty short…taper week for next week’s race!
Sunday Funday: run, breakfast, church, and now we’re out running errands.

Sorry, single lady here so proposal stories, but I do have some WEEEIRD date stories haha!
No long run for me, but the past few days I’ve had killer workouts so my whole body is sore and I love it.

Plans for today included church (done), writing (ummm…should be in progress haha), and LAST EVER SHIFT AT STARBUCKS! Cannot wait to be done and fully devote my time to writing and my new job! :)

Hope you have plenty of desserts tonight! <3

No running for me this weekend. Had a super light week and max’d out on KM on Friday (I ran my LR early in the week). I should be running tomorrow though.

I could eat all those donuts

Such a pretty proposal. I thought I would share mine story since it also involves running! My husband went to our favorite running spot in a huge park in Nashville. He used sidewalk chalk to write out “WILL YOU MARRY ME, BECCA” all the way up to the top of the trail. Then where the trail forks, he wrote “yes or no” with arrows pointing to each direction. When I got home from work, I did NOT want to go run, but he insisted it would make me feel better and it was normal routine. As we went up I started to get nervous and beyond excited. I don’t think I have ever smiled so much during a run, especially up that hill. At one point I just stopped and looked at him, but he made me keep going. At the fork, he got down on his knee and proposed. I made him walk it again just so I could take some pictures, poor guy did that trail 3x that day! We go back to the trail and run it together on the anniversary of our engagement. We now refer to the route as the “marry me route” and either the “yes way” or “no way”!

What a beautiful idea for an engagement!! The decorations are beautiful!
My husband secretly trained for the marathon I was training for (he said he would never run a marathon). At the start of the race he surprised me by taking off his sweatshirt to reveal his race number! I had no idea what was going on, but he told me to just run my race and to meet him at the finish line. He ran the marathon through the pouring rain with the ring in his pack. At the end of the marathon, we found each other and he got on one knee and proposed! He referenced Phidippides, the man who ran the first marathon, and then he told me that he ran the marathon to deliver the most important message of his life. It was an epic, unforgettable moment.
We are going to the beach to celebrate Father’s Day.
Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s Day to your Dad!!

OMG engagements are the cutest!!!!

My proposal was perfect, and totally us. Me and Austin were going to go to dinner at this place that we went to our first date on. He wanted to go for a quick walk before though. So we were walking so we could go listen to the frogs in the park next door to our place. When we were in the park listening to the frogs, Austin walked a little further on the path, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife! I LOVE being married!

5 easy treadmill miles as I start my fall training!

What a sweet proposal!

And, that watermelon reminds me of a delicious treat waiting for me in the kitchen. Yum! ;)

It’s windy a lot here in MT. My long run was 12 miles yesterday. We drove 140 miles round trip so I could run my favorite route in Red Lodge. Today my husband wanted to take a 40 mile bike ride so I ran, shopped and hung out at the park and waited for his call to come get him.

My husband proposed to me by taking me on a snowmobile trip in West Yellowstone. It was a gorgeous winter wonderland and very romantic.

What a pretty proposal! We drove down to the beach that we liked and my husband asked me to marry him. I got nervous, started laughing and tried shushing him. (I always laugh when I’m nervous, which he knows). We’re married 21 years. :)

I did not run this weekend and I felt slightly guilty. I’m not training for anything at the moment. I will probably sign up for a fall half-marathon…

I live in one of the windiest places in the US. Amarillo,TX. :( I’m so jealous of all your running pics. My view is NO bueno. The wind is assisting with the humidity right now but that’s about it. Flat lands and humid air = yuck runs
Trying to keep the focus…..

It was actually pretty windy today in Morgan Hill, Ca! Glad it was a rest day and I didn’t have to run in it ;)

This morning we woke up early to run the froyo 10k! Highly recommend it! Never has froyo tasted so good!! It was the perfect treat after a hot race! Then went to the rockies game and never been more excited to be along 3rd base… Shade for the whole game! It reached nearly 100 degrees, but the shade kept us from sweating and burning!

My fiancé proposed at the zoo where we had our first date. It was right before Christmas, so it was great celebrating time and time again with family and friends from out of town!

Reply

What a cute proposal! How exciting to be a part of it :) My husband proposed in the city we had our first date, under a covered bridge :)
-My run was 6 miles I ran on Saturday as to not disrupt any Father’s Day plans Sunday.
-It get s windy in MI but we are in a valley so I think my windy is not nearly as windy as other places.
– Sunday: Father’s Day was low key and nice :)

I ran Ragnar Trail Appalachia in West Virginia. I have never seen so much mud in my life!!! It was awful the whole time, but just like childbirth, as soon as my teammates and I finished we were ready to sign up again! :-)

Reply

I went to Costco on Saturday too haha – my best friend has a membership so I tagged along during my visit.

Windy in Wyo… yes! But hardly ever in the early moorings. Perfect time to run! I actually did back to back half-marathons this weekend in Bear Lake. Something I’ve never done before. It was really cool to push myself physically & mentally!! :)

My cute (single;) brother in law was one of the builders of that parade home! Also, cute Amanda K’s brothers were my husbands roommates in college. Lots of random connections to this post so I thought I would share! Super fun and way happy for her!

That is the most adorable proposal ever!

Where did you get that white shirt with the flowers on the sleeves? It’s so cute!

What an adorable proposal!!
I’ll share the story of my proposal because it is running related.
My first half was the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco last October, which I ran with Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My fiancé contacted Nike before the race and they allowed him to get on the red carpet in the finishers chute, along with 5 other guys who had the same idea. They were all tracking their respective girlfriends on the race app and they all watched their girlfriends finish except for me!!! I crossed the finish all the way to the left of the chute and they were all the way to the right, so we missed each other in a sea of runners! We found each other afterward, and as soon as he saw me he dropped down on one knee and I was SHOCKED!

It was an incredible day – my first half and an engagement!!

We bought a watermelon from Costco this weekend…it was the best I’ve had all season!

Your runs always seem to be set in the most beautiful places… Maybe someday I’ll take myself over to the USA to see what they’re like in real life…

Great place to run. More motivation with the great view. I need to visit where you at one day. Hehe
