Thriving and Thursday Things!

I don’t know how we were able to do a pyramid after Megan’s killer bootcamp class but somehow we managed to make it happen.

Yesterday was full of burpees, tricep and normal pushups, lunge jumps, mountain climber type things, squats galore and lots of weights.  I think I’ll be sore for a week.

Also, I once again was reminded last night about how much I thrive on group workouts.  There is NO way that I would have completed this workout if I wasn’t surrounded by these girls kicking trash without even making one complaint.  Watching each other work hard makes it so much easier to not quit.  I probably would have made it through the first five minutes of this workout on my own.

Running is very different for me though, I am able to complete hard workouts on my own but I tend to push myself more if I am with others.  I guess I just need the extra motivation of other people when it comes to strength training.

Brooke loves coming to bootcamp because there is a huge area for her to play.

She comes over and gives me a high five after I finish a hard set and it is pretty much my favorite.

IMG 1152

We drove straight to dinner after class.   I had the buffalo chicken salad (with extra pineapple, bless their hearts for adding more for me).

Friends that pretty much feel like family—>  aka family dinner last night.

IMG 1454

They brought out these Portuguese donuts for us to try because they said they made too many.  Ummm…. yes!  Soft, fluffy and sugary.

 IMG 1455

I’ve been pretty excited to see this movie for a long time.  I was able to put Brooke to bed at my parents’ house and go!

My favorite soda machine and my new mug in a blurry picture for you.

THURSDAY THINGS:

Bachelor fans—>  Check out 21 Of The Best Made-Up Jobs From ‘The Bachelor’ And ‘Bachelorette.

Screen Shot 2015 05 20 at 3 42 34 PM

We aren’t going through a dramatic stage or anything like that right now;)

IMG 1143

I already found what Brooke and I are going to be for Halloween next year.

I’ve told you before that Brooke likes to run (well, I’ve told you a lot of times)…

IMG 1461

So I picked up this tee for her.  It just reminds me exactly of how Brooke runs:)

IMG 1153

I hope you all get a wild/adventurous/free/carefree/happy run asap!

Love that t-shirt, and that Brooke loves to run of course :)

Reply

I’m exactly the same – group bootcamp classes motivate me to do way more than I would ever have done on my own in the weights room. I used to do bootcamp classes with my dad – best memories ever!

Reply

We’re going to see Pitch Perfect 2 tomorrow! I can’t wait!

That salad looks amazing! Did they grill the pineapple? That may be my dinner tonight…

Can we all have one of the shirts you bought for Brooke? I love it. It will remind us all to run for the love of running!

If I could have a free trip I would love to go to New Zealand and hike all over that beautiful country!

Reply

Last movie … McGruber. My husband made me.

I like to do most workouts on my own. Occasionally LR’s with a group when I’m training!

Reply

I’m much better at getting my running workouts done on my own than strength workouts. But I do push myself much harder when I run with people, so people are good for me regardless!

Pitch Perfect 2! I thought it was really cute! Definitely wasn’t as good as the first, but I don’t know that it could have been!

Alaska. I’ve been wanting to go to Alaska for a LONG time! Or back to Prague because it is my favorite place.

Reply

I would LOVE to go to Alaska also! My dream is to go on a cruise there – can you say hot tubs and glaciers!?

Reply

I loved Prague and would SO love to go back.

Reply

I like to do my tempo runs solo. Mostly because I can’t talk!
I’d go to Paris!!

Reply

I’d definitely go back to Paris. Doing the Paris Marathon is on my bucket list.

Reply

It’s definitely a bucket list race for me, too!!!

Reply

I typically like running on my own, though I would like company for track workouts and sometimes tempos. I definitely need company for boot camp types of workouts! Those are tough!!

I saw Pitch Perfect 2 over the weekend with my sis! Did you think it was aca-awesome??!

If I could go anywhere, I would vacation in Hawaii. I have always wanted to go there and would not hesitate at all if it were for free! :)

Reply

-I like to run on my own, but I love strength training in a group setting. I used to despise strength training before I discovered bodypump. Now I love it!!
-The last movie I watched was a weird movie in Spanish class (I forgot what it was called…)
-believe it or not, I would go to San Diego. I know it’s not as exciting as some other places (like London or Paris), but it’s my favorite place in the world :) I’m going there for memorial day weekend and I just can’t wait.

Those salads look delish. Where are they from??

Reply

if I could go anywhere right now I would go back to Paris. I really regret that I didn’t do any running while I was there last year and now I really want to go run the Paris marathon! I think it would be a really scenic route and carbo loading on their croissants would be pretty nice!!

Reply

I love doing barre workouts by myself from YouTube videos. They’re the best.

Reply

Oh and those donut costumes win the internet today! :)

Reply

I did an old school barre YouTube video the other day! Definitely the best, especially the sequins and leg warmers for this one in particular ;)

Reply

I always work out solo–it’s my time to mentally check out and get lost in my thoughts.
We saw Pitch Perfect 2 on Sunday–very cute movie w/ lots of laughs.
I really would like to go to Greece–the culture, the scenery, the FOOD!

Reply

I agree – fitness classes push me! It’s hard to stop when someone is two feet away screaming at you :) I do like to run on my own… There’s that whole “am I too slow? are they too fast?” dilemma that keeps me solo.

Brooke’s dramatic floor pose looks like me when Panera is out of Asiago Cheeese bagels.

Reply

Yeah I definitely want to know how being a dog lover is a career! haha Did you love Pitch Perfect 2? I thought it was great!!

Reply

I prefer strength training with a group or I don’t get as good of a workout. Lately I have been doing the iron strength workout on my own but that’s a prescribed plan so all I have to do is follow it. With running I prefer to go on my own and still have no problem pushing myself!

Reply

I have actually never done a group class–except via Youtube (not live either). My friends rave about Barre–but I am not sure about trying that.

Thanks for that post about 21 made up jobs from Bachelor/ette.. we’re reading The Importance of Being Earnest in class, and I have been using references to contemporary “courtship” (or not) and how our society portrays/displays relationships+love.

If I could go anywhere, I would go to Seattle, because I am moving there for two years… (doing another Masters degree)… but I have never even been to that state! And only been to the west coast once… ADVENTURE TIME, I suppose. It will be nice to take a 2 year break from teaching gnarly high school students–I am sure you recall. :o)

Reply

I run on my own and do simple strength stuff in my living room. And of course walking and bike riding. I used to take Kickboxing classes but it banged me up so bad I couldn’t train for marathons so i stopped going. 2016 might be a year i ease up on the running and try classes though. I need a change.

Last movie I saw was Wild with Reese W. Yup, it’s been a long time!

I really want to go to Greece and the Mediterranean.

Reply

I hate running with other people – unless it’s a race, so I’m running alone but surrounded by runners. That’s my favourite.

Last film – the latest Avengers film.

Free holiday – somewhere warm. It’s a lovely sunny day in London, and our office aircon is up so high I am freezing.

Reply

That costume is complete and total greatness!

Last movie I watched was National Treasure, I just realized it was on Netflix and had forgotten how much I LOOOOVE it.

After watching that movie ^^ I’m really dying to go to Washington DC!

Reply

You want to come to DC? Come visit me before I move! Bahaha which means like 4 days. HURRY HURRY HURRY ;)

Reply

Oh I love the donut costume… I feel like you should be able to snag lots of freebies with that! I love to go to spin class, but I just moved and haven’t fiundva new spin teacher that I like yet- some contenders, but I’m still looking!

Reply

I watched Pitch Perfect 2 on Sunday night, and loved it. Although I would have liked Jesse to be in it more :)

Reply

I end up running alone a lot, but I love company so I jump at any chance I get to join friends!
I would love to go to any tropical place – mostly Bora Bora!

Reply

I like doing workout videos by myself! I do miss group exercise classes though… but I just don’t want to spend money on a gym membership, haha! That shirt is SO cute for brooke! :)

Reply

Last movie I watched was Pitch Perfect 2! It is cute- tell me what you thought?!

Love the donut outfit! I may have to do that, too…:)

Reply

The last movie I watched was Wild. LOVED it! But I need to see Pitch Perfect 2!

Reply

One girl was a Freelance writer, and in fancy terms she runs a blog. At first I though wtf really that’s a job, but now that I’m all into the blog world.. I get it. Lol
free vacation. . Hmm I think I would go to anywhere.!! Haha just somewhere new to explore

Reply

Can I say I want to travel the world? Ha! I adore the donut costumes, you have to wear them for Halloween.

Reply

Last movie was a pre screening of The Cokeville Miracle. Have you heard of it? Soo good! I definitely cried through most of it.

Reply

I actually like to run on my own, I feel like since I’m still not that great of a runner I like to be on my own and go at my own pace! Plus it’s the only time I get to myself all day to just think and relax! I would go to Hawaii, I’ve never been and it looks gorgeous!

Reply

I prefer to run by myself for hard running workouts but strength training with others gives me so much more motivation.
The last movie I saw was Sherlock Holmes. And now I really want to rewarch all the Iron Mans because Robert Downey Jr is one of my favorite actors.
If I could go anywhere right now, it would be a trip all throughout Oregon! I’m obsessed with visiting Portland and Bend right now.

Reply

I would probably pick up and fly down to Florida if I could right now to see two of my best friends. It’s always like a vacation for me and so much fun :)

Reply

Lately I have been forced into enjoying solo bike rides and swimming. I used to not enjoy working out alone, but lately I have been able to do a lot of soul searching during solo training sessions. It has been great!

Reply

I only like working out on my own. Once in a while I’ll run with my good friend Lora who is my pace and then we’ll have a beer after (such a great reward for a tough run!) but for the most part running is my sacred alone time. My moving meditation.

Reply

i love that shirt!

Reply

I saw Mad Max last weekend but I can’t wait to see Pitch Perfect 2 as well. I definitely get more motivated being in a group than on my own so it’s good that I can work out for free at the same place I teach!

Reply

I’m pretty similar. I love to run on my own, but strength classes – yikes, I need some extra motivation, guidance, and inspiration from others! If I could go on vacation I would go to the Maldives – they are beautiful and I would LOVE to stay in one of those over-the-water huts! :) Hope you have a great day!

Reply

Funny stuff! At least saying you’re a “blogger” is a lot more understood these days than it was a few years ago! And agreed, I totally push myself more in the group setting for workouts. That’s why I love group fitness so much!

Reply

I love that shirt you got for Brooke!
I would say speed work is better solo just because I am really pushing it and its hard to talk at the same time.
Last movie I watched was Dirty Dancing on TV. A classic ;-)
I would go to Hawaii!

Reply

Do you find that soda has a impact on your running? It causes my dad to cramp up. While I don’t suffer from leg cramps, I do find that it causes tightness. Now i avoid soad like a plague even at ultra events where soda is at every aid station as it is a quick source of calories/sugar and caffiene. Total bummer as I love diet coke.

Reply

I would love to go to Bora Bora!

I love Brooke’s shirt! I think it should it be the official HRG shirt…all of us would proudly sport it!! :D

Reply

I like to do most workouts on my own, but I really enjoy spin classes with friends :)
Last movie I watched=Hot Pursuit. Good, but not as good as I was hoping.
I would go on vacation to London. I’m a huge British history nerd and I would totally fangirl out if I got to visit some of those sites! TBH, I probably wouldn’t come back

Reply

Love the t-shirt! You can already tell Brooke has a nice stride going!

Reply

I like running solo because I have to be in “my” groove, no matter what running workout I’m doing. I love group fitness for spin and bootcamp or step class. I tried to do a bootcamp style workout on my own yesterday and it was SO MUCH HARDER!! :P

I would like to go on vacation to Greece right now. People’s Instagram photos are making me jealous.

Reply

Omg I love those soda machines!! So many choices. Lol

If I could go anywhere it would be Italy…Hawaii if I had to stay in the states.

Last movie I saw was Home….kids movies are about all I see anymore. Hoping to see the new Poltergeist this weekend though.

Reply

Omg I love the doughnut costumes, too cute!

Reply

OMG they have a coke machine you can get with a cup!! That is too cool. These things need to make their way out EAST!! Hope you enjoyed the movie. It looks COOL~ Also those costumes are going to be amazing!!

Reply

I loved the first pitch perfect.. I need to go see the second one soon!! I can’t wait until Brooke is old enough to REALLY run.. she is going to love it just like you do!

Reply

I LOVE group bootcamp classes! There’s no way I’d ever push myself that hard. Can’t wait to see Pitch Perfect 2!

Reply

I don’t watch the Batchelor, but that list is AWESOME! Pantsapreneur?! ;)

Can I be a donut for Halloween too, please?! That is just too cute!

And…

I’m more into solo workouts, but I’m trying to branch out so that I don’t get bored.

Last movie I watched was Edge of Tomorrow. It was actually pretty good.

And, if I could go anywhere on vacation right now, I think I’d pick Hawaii. I’ve been seeing a lot of pictures lately, and it just looks so beautiful.

Reply

I love those Coke machines! Everytime I go to one, I want to hug it. They are so cool!

Reply

I like to do pretty much all workouts with a group (except for runs when I’m grumpy). Being with a group forces me to finish the whole workout and not tap out when I get bored or tired. Plus it’s nice to have someone to chat with when you’re running and it’s 75 degrees and weirdly humid (ie the running group I went to yesterday).

I don’t remember the last movie I watched but I’m sure excited to see Jurassic World in theatres.

I want Caribbean island. Right this second.

Reply

Yay! My mum always makes those donuts for Christmas (and whenever we go back to Portugal), we call them Sonhos. ;)

I like running solo but all else I prefer in group or with friends/hubby.
Last Film: Avengers.
Hummm I’d go back to Santorini anytime!! :)

Reply

I love Santorini.

Reply

I really hate running with other people. Running is my time away from the world. I think about everything and nothing and love that feeling of being disconnected from the demands of the day.
I cannot do any weights or stretching on my own because I just get too bored, so I do yoga and boot camp classes (similar to Megan’s) at a studio.

I watched Pitch Perfect (the original) AGAIN last night!

And I’d probably go almost anywhere since its been so long that I went on a vacay…but Hawaii is at the top of my list!

Reply

Where is that black tank top from?! It’s so cute!

Reply

Ahh thank you!!! <3

Reply

I’d go to Alaska because I feel like it would GORG and I’ve never been.

Have a GREAT day, girlfriend!

Reply

I’m definitely big on solo workouts period. Occasionally, I run with a couple wonderful ladies but….mainly, I just enjoy the “me” time.

Last movie that I watched was “Wild” and I didn’t think it was all the great, to be honest.

Absolutely Peru! My husband and I are planning on going possibly in 2017.

Reply

Last Movie: American Sniper.
Vacation: I would love to go to Italy and would drop everything to do so if the opportunity arose:)

Reply

Group running, group classes? I’m a fan. Friends and other people just push me farther.

Last movie: Age of Adeline with Blake Lively. I’ve only seen her on Gossip girl. She is just stunning. I can only imagine how beautiful her baby girl is with Ryan Reynolds.

Once place the hubs and I didn’t get to before baby was Greece. We hope to go one day!

Reply

I’ve been wondering about your friend who had the meniscus tear. I also had surgery this week on my left knee. It’s safe to say I won’t be running my once planned 3rd marathon this fall. How is her return to running coming along?

Reply

Hey Nikki! I am so so sorry that you had to get surgery on your knee! That is awful but I hope your recovery is speedy! My friend got pregnant just after her surgery so she hasn’t even tried running. She says she plans to after she has her baby but she does do spin and zumba at this time with zero pain. I will keep you updated on how she is doing and you keep me updated on how you are doing!

Reply

I like a little of both. Running alone and running with people. I like my solo runs but racing is always fun with friends.

I love Brooke’s drama. Little girls and their drama…newsflash it continues. sigh.

Reply

On my own: I pretty much do all my workouts alone now. Yoga, kickboxing, strength. I do prefer bootcamp and long runs with others.

I would go to Paris right now if I could. I’ve never been and I really want to see it.

Reply

I’m with ya — I love doing boot camp-style workouts with a group. When I’m solo, it’s harder for me to really push myself and enjoy it.

…Can I have that shirt Brooke has? Is that weird?

Reply

“But you’re Becka and Chloe…you’re Bhloe!”… =)

Reply

I don’t have any group exercise buddies, so that is probably why 99% of my workouts are running!

I watched Hot Pursuit…………it wasn’t spectacular, but it was funny, and I enjoyed it.

And I would Disney cruise it up again in a heartbeat………..I am so sad our cruise is over!!!

Reply

I’m the same exact way when it comes to strength training – it’s much easier for me to put myself through that in a group than by myself. The last movie I watched was the first Pirates of the Carribbean (until I got too tired and fell asleep). :) If I could go anywhere on vacation right now, I think I’d have to say Cancun. I could go for some nice cocktails and sandy beaches ;)

Reply

-I love those donut costumes!!
-If I could take a free vacation anywhere in the world I would definitely go to Hawaii. It’s #1 on my travel bucket list but is so expensive my husband and I hope we can afford to go before we’re too old to really enjoy it haha

Reply

I wrote about movies today too. I saw Far From The Madding Crowd and loved it! Read about it here. http://runwright.net/2015/05/21/love-and-loss/
I love those donut costumes.

Reply

I have only done group workouts a handful of times, and I can never get over that self-conscious feeling. It is something I need to work past because I am constantly hearing how beneficial it can be to workout with others. The most I can do is running simultaneously with my best friend on adjacent treadmills. You are inspiring me Janae!

Quick tip on those soda machines. I worked at a movie theatre for almost 2 years so I know the ins and outs of those little guys. Whenever you go to use those machines, make sure you tap the water option FIRST. All of the drinks filter through one pipe, so if you don’t clean it out prior to choosing your flavor option, there is a good chance you are getting remnants of that orange sprite that the person before you picked out. Sometimes, it is not noticeable, but if you get some wacky flavor, it could really throw you. I just thought I’d mention it because I know how much you love your DC/DDP and I don’t want anything to mess with it.
Anddddd that ended up not being a quick tip. Whoops!

Last movie I watched: Pitch Perfect 2 as well!
If I could go on vacation anywhere in the world right now, I would go to Iceland! It is visually stunning with such a rich culture, yet no one travels there!

Reply

That food looks amazing! And the donuts. I want donuts now.

The last movie I watched was Bourne Supremacy. I bought them for my husband a few years ago but we haven’t watched them in a while. We decided to watch them to make sure we still like them. haha.

If I could go anywhere for free right now, I’d probably pick taking my kids and mother in law to disney land. Thats a dream of hers (my mother in law’s).

Reply

I finally saw Pitch Perfect 2 last night and LOVED it! SO goooood. It’s the last movie that I watched.

Really I like running by myself, but also with a select few others. I haven’t tried running with a group yet, but I have a feeling it would remind me of high school gym – and I’m not ready for all those feelings to come back haha.
I love spin and body combat with other people though! My competitiveness comes out!

I’d really love to have a cross country road trip paid for! That sounds stinkin’ awesome! With someone else driving me, of course..haha.

Love the donut costume :)

Reply

There’s something about going to a yoga class that I really like. I think it’s the energy in the room that I just don’t get when I’m doing yoga on my own at home.

Reply

That salad looks awesome! Also, pretty sure I’ll need to stop by Old Navy and pick my little girl up one of those shirts :) too cute! She told me the other day she wanted to be a runner like her mama, which warmed my heart !! Then she said it was because I eat yummy chocolate bars before I run ( Luna cookie dough bars) I’ll give it to her, they are yummy!!
-I would vacation in bora bora and get one of those hut things!

Reply

I’d much rather run on my own. That’s my thinking and relaxing time. I do like group barre class and yoga class, but I do like doing most of my workouts on my own.

Pretty sure the “healer” from the Bacherlorette is a made up job too…
