I asked my niece what she wanted for dinner last night and I will just go ahead and quote her answer—> “A Salad.”
I bet you can imagine my excitement to have a salad buddy for the evening. We had another guest over for dinner too and he actually cooked the chicken for the salads (working with raw meat is not my favorite) so it was pretty much the perfect situation.
Romaine, avocado, green peppers, strawberries, feta cheese and poppyseed dressing.
I loved it.
My niece loved it.
It’s still pretty gloomy in these parts and the girls wanted to get some playing in so we took them to an indoor play place for the good stuff.
3 Fun Facts:
1. My niece can fake being asleep better than anyone I know. She can pretend she is asleep through feet tickling and me telling funny jokes. It is pretty impressive. Brooke legitimately thought she was asleep.
2. Truth for me when it comes to choosing a place to eat:
3. Turns out Brooke thinks I’m crazy.
I get the chance to star working with Dave again. I’m thrilled. He is so ridiculously talented and once upon a time he took me from a 1:31 1/2 marathon pr to a 1:23 1/2 marathon in about 6 months of working together. Good things are going to happen at St. George this year.
His workouts kick my trash, we work really well together and I am ready to be whipped into shape. He is also super good at getting me to do all of the little things that make a huge difference in my running.
I have some new songs that I am loving and listening constantly for running/spinning:
Beautiful Now by Zedd
Say Geronimo by A Single Pill
Bad Blood by Taylor Swift
Let Your Heart Go by TI
Hey Mama by David Guetta
Friction by Imagine Dragons
Trouble by Iggy Azalea
Immortals by Fall Out Boy
Waiting by The Vibrant Sound (My favorite cool-down song lately)
What training plan are you going to be using for your next race?
This is a fun one——> Use three words to describe yourself!!!!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
I’m excited to plan my training for NYC this year! That’s awesome that you’re good to go with a coach that has helped you so much in the past, I have a GREAT feeling about this for you!
You must have been so proud after the salad request, too cute :)
I am Strong!
and I’m still working on a training plan for my next race…
[email protected] GetOffYourButtAndRun
That’s awesome you’re back with Dave! Keep with his coaching and workouts and you’ll have that sub-3! I can’t wait to read about your training!
That salad looks really good!
Three words to describe myself: independent, dedicated, hungry (seriously, I could ALWAYS eat)
Kaella On The Run
I am running my first marathon in November (the New York marathon!!!) and will be using the NYRR training plans. I like how they give you three options of
Weekly runs/finish time so you can pick what works for you and also they talk about the course throughout the 16 weeks. I wish I could get a coach but that’ll have to wait!
Sweet, kind and passionate
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I have a race in two weeks (Utah Valley!) and after that I don’t know what training plan I’ll use. I think it’s time to change it up again, but not sure what exactly I want to do yet. Guess I need to find a race first…
Will @ TeelFit
-Three words: I love food :)
Have an amazing Wednesday!
I am so excited that you will be using Dave again! I can’t wait to see your workouts! I am excited to say I am finally expecting, and I hope Dave will take me on again after baby #3!
I have no doubt you will reach your dream of a sub-3! After a 12 week strength training program, I’m a little over training programs for the time being… no racing for me for a while, so I’m looking into Insanity or P90x to do over the next few months!
Kristina @ Blog About Running
three words to describe myself would be “runner” and “beach bum” :)
I’m excited for your fall races!! I can’t wait until we all start training again!
Kelli at Not Your Mama's Marathon
I’m using the Run Less, Run Faster training plan for a 3:30 marathon this year!
You are totally going to rock that sub 3 marathon in St. George this year, it’s the perfect course to do it!
What happened to your Boston coach?
The Hungry Runner Girl
Nothing! She was incredible! Dave offered to work together again and I saw a lot of improvements in my running with him so we are going for it!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
That salad looks awesome. I’m excited for your new training and to see you rock that race!
Gretchen | Gretchrun
That’s great that you’ll be working with that coach again! Good things are happening :) Can’t wait to see how you do! I usually make my own training plans by mixing a basic one (usually from hal higdon) with my gym’s schedule to figure out my runs and my cross training!
For three words, I would say determined, adventurous, passionate. Good question!
YOU ARE GOING TO GET THAT SUB 3!!!
To describe me: determined, stubborn, loving
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
You got this girl! That sub 3 is going to be yours!!
Amy @ They May be Light
I love working with a coach. It’s always so fun! And by fun I mean so hard I want to give up and sleep all day, but that’s what fun feels like!
I miss training hard! I need to work up the motivating to do it again.
Amanda @ Slimplify Life
Hal Higdon has kept me pretty injury free thus far, so I’ll use his for my November marathon in SEATTLE!

Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I haven’t decided what my plan will be for my next marathon (or even when it will be) but I’ve considered working with a coach. I can’t wait to hear more about your training!
Denise @ An Academic Athlete
Wow 1:31 to 1:23 in only 6 months! That is amazing–you’ll definitely get your sub 3 soon. Hmm 3 words to describe myself would be logical, curious, and fun!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
Three words: curly creative runner
My next big event is the nyc marathon and my training plan is simple. Do what I have to for injury prevention. That means no time goals. I have all of 2016 to reach for bigger goals. And since I have been plagued with injury for a year now the universe is telling me to ease up. :)
A male guest and no further elaboration?! How could you leave us hanging like that.
Your niece is a crack-up-she could give a muir cat a real run for their money (or nap?)
3 words-intuitive, careful, goofy
The Hungry Runner Girl
hahaha I just get so nervous talking about any of that kind of stuff online:) Maybe I will soon!!! LOVE your three words!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
You are going to get that sub 3!
I’m using the Hansons plan to run my first marathon in October and hopefully qualify for Boston.
I’m really glad you are going back to Dave as your coach – I saw such huge improvements while he was coaching you. Especially in the non-running extras: core work, cadence, posture, etc. This is exciting news!
The Hungry Runner Girl
You are so right Gracie! Thanks girl and I hope you are having a fabulous day!
Leilah @ Leilah's Upcyclery
I am running a 10k on the 4th of July and am using this actionaid 6 week 10k training plan http://www.actionaid.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/10k_schedule.pdf
I’ve really slowed down on my running since the last race – a 5k on April 11th, AND I’ve never run more than 3.1 miles. So, I have some work to do!
Jessica @ VEGGIE RUNNING MOMMA
Oh you switched coaches.!? That’s exciting.. I remember you talking about this coach.
I don’t think I’m going to do a training plan again.
Three words that describe me, determined, independent and caring.
meredth @Cookie ChRUNicles
I don’t really know yet which half marathon I am running for the fall so I don’t have any set training plans going on although I never really do anyway lol. I love Fall Out Boy! Great song.
Very cool that you’re working with Dave again — can’t wait to read about your training and his advice… there were some awesome tips I picked up from reading when you trained with him before.
I’m building a training plan for NYCM right now… a blend of advice from a friend/coach and runyourbq.com (even though I’m not even close to a BQ — I like the structure).
Three words: determined, passionate, daydreamer.
My three words: Coffee Elmo Nerd
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures
That’s great that you have such a talented coach! I’ve been using Pfitz plans for the past few marathons, and they have worked for me, so I’m going with that again.
Three words: caring, determined, positive!
Three words: committed, supportive, loving
The Hungry Runner Girl
Such important characteristics! You are amazing!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog
Haha Brooke always has the sweetest smile glued to her face! And that salad looks like a delicious combo of the things I love! :)
I usually put together my own training plan, but am contemplating working with a coach for NYC this year. Are you using a different coach than for Boston?
Three words: Hilarious, Passionate, EverythingSugar : )
I’ve been really enjoying salads lately too. I like the more bitter taste of arugula and goat cheese together.
Your music playlists always sound like mine. I think we must have very similar taste.
Angie @ Pace With Grace
I’m using Hal Higdon’s intermediate plan for my half next month. I’m really liking it!
Three words- motivated, bright, strong :-)
Looking forward to hearing about your training! I have a feeling your sub 3 marathon is just ahead!
Good luck with your new-old coach (haha)! Those salads look great!
kristin | W [H] A T C H
excited to hear more about your work with George and your journey to sub 3!
We did not need that video to know that you were crazy. But it did help with entertaining us. Thank you.
You will totally kill that 3 hours. I can’t wait to watch :)
Your coaching is still long-distance I guess since he’s in Florida – did you get to meet him before?! (from the picture). I guess your not with Lauren any longer?
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hey Jenni! Yep, long distance. He and his wife came to Utah last year for a work event so we were able to get together for a few workouts! Not currently! She did amazing though and I adore her. Dave offered to work again and so I’m trying that out again!
Where in Florida is he? Does he take on other clients?
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
You can do it, J! Awesome you have a great coach to give you the tools to succeed.
I’m not sure what my new training plan is yet. I’ve been using a coach for a few years now but haven’t since my injury. I haven’t decided if I will go back to him or try something different.
Three words to describe myself: quirky, genuine, passionate. (That was fun! :))
I need to start thinking about my marathon training plan. I’m good with planning out workouts/mileage – but I need help with my form. Any niggle/sore spot/injury comes from my form. Need some big help with this one :-(
Jennifer @ JenChoosesJoy
I am in awe of your sub 3 goal!
I’m currently using an ultra dirtbag trail plan to train for the north fork 50. It involves training on trails for time instead of mileage.
3 words: energetic, giving, joyful
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
You have me hooked on that Say Gerinimo song. I’ve had it on repeat for the last week!!!
lol I’m obsessed with the Bad Blood music video – it’s so fun!!
And too funny about Curly sleeping – I think we’ve all had to fake sleep before ;)
I’m really super curious to know how you got from 1:31 to 1:23. I’ll see if I can find it in your archives!
The Hungry Runner Girl
LOTS and lots of speed work ha:) I will be posting about every workout he gives me this time around too! Hope you are having a great day Suzy!
I’m excited to hear that you will be posting about your training!! I’m still so new to running – just registered for my fourth half marathon but it’s time to taking this to a new level and new PR! I’m be looking forward to these updates. (And glad someone else asked about who your “guest” was. Totally was my first question too.)
I am using the Train Like A Mother Runner Half-Marathon:Finish It plan for the Southernmost Half-Marathon in October in Key West FL. It’s my first half so I’m super excited and motivated. Determined, Strong, Optimistic are my three words.
I am currently using a beginners guide to marathon training with minor changes where I increase my mileage for ultra training.
3 words = mama, loving, determined!
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
I have no doubt that there will be a sub-3 marathon in your near future. You have so much heart and put in the work… it will pay off!
My next training plan will be starting from scratch after I give birth in September. I am actually looking forward to training in my post-natal body and seeing what I can do. I will most likely be training for Boston and a summer Ironman!
Three words: Motivated. Optimistic. Energetic.
Fun playlist! I’ll have to check out some of those songs. My playlist could use some updating. My next “race” is a 5k and by that time I will be almost 19 weeks pregnant so my plan is to just take it at a nice and easy pace and hopefully finish under or around 30 minutes.
3 words: Sarcastic, determined & strong!
On Monday I tried that track workout you posted a week or so ago. Oh. My. Goodness. I was SO sore! That’s a good one. I’ll be sharing it with my running buddies on Friday. ☺️
The Hungry Runner Girl
OH yay! So glad you liked it! I was definitely sore afterwards too:)
Where did you get that shirt in the first picture? So cute!!!!!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Thanks Rachel! I got it from this store:
They don’t have it online though:(

Runner, humorous, and confident!
I’m trying to get back into training for the Peachtree Road Race, which is my favorite 10K!
Colleen @ CSmith Run
I’m strongly considering finding a coach for my next marathon – Chicago this October. I’m worried it might be a little too soon now though since I need to start training like now… maybe I’ll do some research this weekend.
Hmmm 3 words to describe me right now: anxious (waiting on some news), upbeat (already got my run in so feeling pretty good), and hungry…
I love all the songs you post, thank you! And I know that sub 3 is in the cards for you!
My 3 descriptions….stubborn, determined, loves unconditionally
Alison (Fueling for Fitness)
So exciting! I’ve really enjoyed following your training and can’t wait to see you kick ass at another cycle. :D PS. I went to your old link and now I want a steak salad with green beans… damn it!
Jane @ 50statecanuck
I love your approach to choosing a place to eat! lol
I’m using Hansons’ method again but with heart rate training determining my intensity. I love it.
Kick ass strong, smiley, determined
Oh – totally forgot to mention, I’m going to be using YOUR FIRST MARATHON TRAINING PLAN FOR MY BOSTON TRAINING PLAN :) I’ve decided with this injury I need to see what running 3 days a week does for me instead of 4!
Amanda B @ Cupcakes and Miles
That salad looks very yummy!
I’m going to be recycling a Higdon plan for my next marathon training cycle.
And, oh boy, let’s see here…
I am positive, stubborn, and sarcastic. :)
oooo new/old coach! exciting :) My three words would beeee….. compassionate, impulsive, and sarcastic.
Weird, I know Say Geronimo as a song by the band Sheppard, but I see it on Amazon as by A Single Pill, too. That’s strange, I can’t figure out a connection between the two!
Jessica @ Laces and Lattes
I work full time with a coach. As someone who is a self confessed hypochondriac, it is helpful to have someone to ease my worries about my training.
That is so awesome about the coach. Great things are going to happen this year for you. In every way. I can feeeel it.
That salad looks and sounds amazing. Feel free to make it for me anytime.
Loud. Stubborn. unapologetically me.
Maddie @ Dixie Runs
Very exciting about your coach! I just started reading the Hansons Marathon Method book, so I think I’m going to use that for my training.
Kate @ SoCal Runner Gal
I’m so excited that I’ll get to be there in PERSON to see you kill it! woo woo!!
Rachel @ Simply Rachel Nicole
You are totally going to get that sub 3! Seriously though, you’re amazing! The video of Brooke is the cutest!!!
Annette @ Sweating Through Life
Currently trying to find a training plan that fits for me for a full marathon. It will be my first one and I’m not sure what plan is best.
3 words: motivated, strong-willed (see how I made that 1 word), independent
Have you heard the song “Be Okay” by Oh Honey? It seems like it’d be a good anthem for your and your girlie. :)
Thank you for sharing your songs and training!!
I start slowly running in July, fully running in September. I will start working with my coach again and Boston is the goal race.
So excited for your sub 2!!! Your coach sounds awesome!
Polly @ mytimerunner
oh my gosh, you make AMAZING salads!
And, yes, I always want to pick the restaurant to eat…… and then I convince the others they too want to eat there!!!! LOL!
Love the music selection ideas!!!! Definitely motivating tunes!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
I’m probably going to be using a Hal Higdon plan for my first full this fall. I have used SmartCoach from Runner’s World before and liked it pretty well. One day I would like to work with a coach. Sometimes I’m bad at pushing myself.
3 words: lazy, hungry, happy
Did you get Zedd’s new album? Obsessed
Doni @ My adventures in living
We have a great family story when Grandma asked my daughter a word to describe herself and she said “empathetic.” Her grandma heard it as “I’m pathetic” and gave her this huge lecture on why that word certainly does NOT describe her. My daughter was kind of crushed and confused at why Grandma didn’t believe she was empathetic. When we all finally figured out where the disconnect was, we knew it would be an epic story forever more.
My training plan is a hybrid of a few things I’ve pulled off the internet and modified to fit my lifestyle and what I’m realistically willing to do before my next marathon. Unfortunately, when you come up with your own, it always seems easier to “adjust” it along the way as well.
Three words to describe me: resilient, optimistic, and strong.
I love that you are crazy…
Happy about a gentleman making you chicken for your salad.
AND three words about me…. caring, hardworking and CRAZY ;)
You can do sub-3! I can’t wait to hear what your training is like. I’m running my first marathon in February of 2016, the Phoenix Marathon, and will be on the look out for some tips:)
Michelle (The Runner's Plate)
I am gunning for a sub-3 hour marathon as well. I just started working with my coach again, and I have a renewed sense of ‘wanting it’ now that I’m working with her. With a 1:23 PR in the half, I know you can run a sub-3 hour marathon! And I hear my friend Brittany will be seeing you soon. We have been doing a lot of training runs together in here in AK. :)
I’m currently using the Hal Hignon advanced 10K plan to train for a PR. I don’t run this distance much but thought it would be a fun change. I’ve used the Hignon plans before for both the full and half distances and like them!
Three words – disciplined, calm and hardworking
Did you know that kids aren’t supposed to wear puffy coats in the carseat? They make impact of crash way worse on little bodies. Also, the horizontal clicky tab thing on chest is supposed to be up near the armpits.
Knowing the horror of car crashes means you will tell anyone these things, even if it rubs them the wrong way.
I’m pretty sure Coach Dave can get you there. I’m glad you get the chance to work with him again.
