I’m pretty excited about this.

I have been pretty nervous about whether or not I would get into the St. George Marathon this year.  They do a lottery most years for the race but EVERYBODY got into the race this year.  If you remember from last year, I fell in love with this race and I can’t wait to get back there this year.

I’m ready to keep up with my strength training in order to get strong, train on hills and the trails like crazy, do the speed work, recover, run easy when I need to and stay as injury free as possible.  Time to get that sub 3 hour marathon that I have been chasing after for 5 years now.

St. George, I’m going to own you this year.  Thanks.

IMG 0449

I really like mornings that involve both of these pairs of shoes.  I taught a 45 minute spin class (the microphone is still broken so that was fun) and then did 3 treadmill miles.

IMG 0467

Brooke got to talk to her dad on the computer while I was gone and then I cradled her like a baby because the whole growing up thing is happening way too fast.

IMG 0469

She also had a race with my dad around the track (**what she calls the rug).

IMG 0483

My sister had her second epidural shot into her spine today… she is still in crazy amounts of pain.  She is seeing all of the right specialists etc but things just haven’t improved yet.  Brooke and I are being chauffeurs for her kiddos until she gets feeling normal again.

IMG 0487

I took the girls to lunch (at some point I will shower and get out of running clothes) and we started with chips with salsa.  I will never ever get sick of Mexican food.  I still can’t come near Thai or Indian food… it’s been over a year since I got Giardia while in Thailand and vowed to never come near that food again… I am sticking to that vow.  How’s that for a tangent?

IMG 1178

Caramelized onions and green chilis just take salads to the next level for me.

IMG 1179

The girls were given ice cream sandwiches once they finished their meals.   Lucky ducks.

IMG 1180

Off to a tea party in Brooke’s room with the girls.  I’ll see you in the morning!!

Who else will be running St. George this fall?  Anyone running Chicago this year? What other fall races are people signing up for?

What type of food will you never get sick of?

 Spicy foods/salsa—>  yay or nay?

How many different pair of shoes have you worn today?

-So far two, spin shoes and running shoes.

That is so awesome that everyone got into the marathon! You will do amazing! I’m so sorry that your sister is still not doing very good. I will keep her in my prayers :) I don’t think I will ever get sick of Cafe Rio salads, and I love spicy foods. They are my favorites!!

Congrats on St. George lottery! That’s very exciting news!!! I love spicy. The spicer the better. When I get Thai food, I’m always asking for the hottest number I can get.

Reply

I’m looking at doing back to back races (Oct 3 & 4) in New Hampshire and Maine. Haven’t decided yet or registered for either, but that’s the very tentative plan.

Spicy food – yay! I like spicy foods for flavor, not to make things hot for the sake of being hot. I will never get sick of pasta. Any kind, really. Love it.

So far two, slippers and work shoes. Running shoes will be coming soon!

Reply

I am running St. George! I have five friends that will be traveling from Oklahoma for it! I can’t wait, although am very worried about the downhill!

Becky! That is so so exciting! I love that your five friends are coming for the race:)

I will never get sick of sushi, seaweed salad (newest addiction), and sweet potatoes.

I’ve spent my day in Brooks PurFlows (luff) and flip-flops! Slippers in the queue for tonight :)

Have a really wonderful night!

Reply

Congratulations! That is exciting news. I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I hope better days are on her horizon. I wore running shoes, then workout shoes (for rowing + TRX) and now sandals followed by slippers later tonight. Spicy food = YAY. I never get sick of peanut butter. I eat a lot of it daily.

Reply

I have a few fall races coming up: Hershey Half, Indiana (PA) marathon, Boom Shaka Laka half (running it mostly for the name)

I’ve worn 3 shoes so far today: 1 for my run, 1 for work, 1 for walking my dog. About to wear my 4th for a fitness class!

Good luck in training and congrats on getting in to the marathon!!

Chicago!! Woot woot!!

I will never get sick of grilled cheese… or sushi… Just not together.

Reply

WAHOO MELISSA!! I can’t wait:) We will have to do a post race froyo meetup!

Mmm I could eat mexican food for every meal! Not spicy though – I’m a bit of a wimp. My husband will eat food so hot it makes him sweat while he is eating, that just doesn’t sound enjoyable!

I only have one pair of work shoes on so far today but at 5pm Ill be lacing up my new Asics for an interval run! I love my bike shoes too, its getting nice enough I suppose I could start biking to work again soon!

Reply

I will never get sick of Mexican Food or Tex-Mex either.

I’m still on my first pair of shoes (Asics gel). I wear socks around the house. I only put on slippers to go outside.

Reply

I’m running Chicago this year! I live in Florida, but I grew up in the Chicago suburbs so I’m excited to be able to spend some time with my family, as well.

I could never get sick of pizza.

So far, sneakers, flip flops (for shower) and flats.

It has been WAY too long since I’ve indulged in an ice cream sandwich and now Brooke and Curly have me craving them prettyyyy bad!

I have to agree – I could NEVER get sick of Mexican food. Not in a million years!

Brooke calling the rug her track is HYSTERICAL. She is too clever!

I hope your sister feels better soon! You are an amazing Aunt!

One of my best friends sent me an “OMG, OMG, OMG…” text this morning because she will be running St. George. It was a very similar text she sent after she submitted her name for the lottery. She will be going for a BQ.

Reply

Congrats on getting into St. George! I’m running the Portland Marathon this fall and am so exited!
I can never get sick of Mexican food either.
I hope your sister feels better soon! Praying for her!

Reply

I was super excited to see that email too!! It will be my first full and I seriously canny wait!!!

Reply

So I’m sure your sister has gotten all kinds of advice on her back but I thought I’d throw mine out there too ;) I literally couldn’t stand up straight for 8 months and could barely drive a car or walk from the car to the couch. It was awful. After trying everything, seriously, everything, I found a healthy posture class that is taught at The Summit gym here is St George. The class has helped so many people and after 2 months I could stand up straight again and could avoid having surgery. After 4 most of the pain was completely gone. Anyways, I know you’re in St George often so there’s my two sense lol.

Reply

Oh my goodness Danielle, that sounds miserable! I can’t even imagine. I will send your comment to my sister! THANK YOU for sharing. I am so happy that you are doing so much better and that you avoided surgery!

Reply

I still do her class three days a week with her dvd ever since my membership ran out. Probably good to mention since your sis prob wouldn’t want to commute to class :P

Reply

i signed up for St. George…but was kind of hoping I didn’t get picked! I ran in high school cross country but got so many injuries that I gave up running for 10 years. Then I did my master’s thesis on foot strike patterns and injury rates after reading Born to Run and decided to switch to forefoot striking and ended up With a BQ time on my first marathon, no injuries! But then I got pregnant with babies 3 & 4 successively after that and I can’t run while pregnant (pelvic separation issues) so now I’m attempting a come back after having taken the last 3 years off consistent running and St. George is that come back. I’m running with my husband and we are hoping to both BQ again (he did also 3 years ago) and do Boston this time around, now that we have money and time to do i (he just finished his medical residency 9 months ago)t. Ha ha! But I’m also freaking out bc my current pace is far below BQ time and I REALLY want to cross Boston off my bucket list. But I never dreamed of a BQ 3 years ago and while training it just happened. So I’m crossing my fingers it happens again! But it means I’m excited and simultaneously dreading St. George…also bc this time around I have 4 kids instead of 2 and one of them is nursing. Oh crap…what have I done?!?!? Ha ha!

Reply

Yes to Mexican food! I could eat it every day….the spicier the better!

October I might have a half….no full until December CIM. Looking forward to that.

I hope your sister gets some relief soon, that sounds just awful. I can’t remember if you mentioned this earlier but are these back issues related to childbirth?

Reply

Hey Laura! Yay for CIM… I want to do that one so bad. She hurt her back a few years ago but pregnancy and birth made it so much worse:( It breaks my heart to see her in so much pain.

Hope you get some spicy Mexican food soon!

Reply

My hubby & I will be at St George too, wahoo!! It would be awesome to cross paths & meet you after being a reader of yours for so long. Also, I’m doing Utah Valley Marathon on 6/13… Any tips you might have would be great! It will be a first at this distance for me as I was side railed 5 years ago with a pelvic stress fracture training for what would have been my first. Anyhow- so happy that you’ll be running one of your favorite races & I’d bet money you get your sub 3.

Reply

I can’t do spicy but I love when a dish is full of flavor. You got me thinking about Chipotle and I’ll get it for lunch on Saturday.

Reply

Chicago! Woot, woot! I may also do Park City half in August! Any chance you’ll be running that one?
So sorry to hear about your sister – that sucks and I know how hard it must be for you to see her in pain and not be able to help.

Reply

Im so sad you still can’t do Thai or Indian food! It makes me sad thinking that you couldn’t enjoy it in Thailand because you got so sick, because that is where I learned to love it and now I always want it! Thank you for your tips they saved me from that ice ;) but seriously though, who could ever get sick of Mexican. It’s a staple! I’ll have to try Milagros, I’ve wondered if it was any good. Hope you are doing well beautiful lady! You’ll do awesome at st George.

Reply

I’m going to be running the Steamtown Marathon this fall – my first full!

I will never get sick of Ferrero Roches :)

I like spicy food, but not so hot that you can’t taste the flavour any more!

So far I’ve only worn one pair of shoes – black mid-calf boots for work. I’m looking forward to taking them off at the end of the day, and replacing them with my wool uggs :)

I was anxiously awaiting Monday’s news about St. George and was pleasantly (I think!) surprised to have made it in as well!!! I will admit I was kinda hoping to not, decision made for me (I’m a terrible decision maker!) but I am excited. I ran this 3 years ago and had terrible GI issues so 3 marathons later, I’m ready to go back and show this beautiful course it didn’t get the best of me! Although I won’t be anywhere near you on the course…I’ll be keeping my out for you!! ;0)

Sorry to hear about your sister; I hope she finds some relief soon!

3 pairs… work sandals, walking shoes for during lunchtime, and now slippers.

That is so awesome about St. George! Congrats! You are making me jealous. I am missing Utah like crazy and it’s only been a week since we’ve moved to NY :(

I am running a super small marathon in Washington DC in September in hopes of getting a BQ before 2016 registration ends!

Mexican food and pizza. I will never get sick of either.

YAY to spicy foods and salsa. I am a salsa connoisseur.

I’ll be running the Rock n’ Roll Oasis Vancouver Half Marathon this Fall! I’m hoping for a good summer training cycle that involves lots of speed work! I want a PB!

Congrats on St. George!

Congrats!!! Thanks for the tip on compression sock sizing the other post. Have you tried calf sleeves? Are they as good as the full-length socks?

Also, any runners here purchase Oiselle shorts online? I would love to order pairs but things fit me weird and it’s hard to determine the right size…I heard they run small (despite saying they are true to size). Typically I wear Small…but after some winter poundage (BLAH) and my bigger thighs/behind makes me think I’d be a medium/large. Hate shopping!

Reply

Yay! So excited you’re running that race! :D

Reply

I’m running Chicago! My 3rd full, followed by Disney full in January. I debated putting my name in for St. George, but didnt know what in would do if I got picked since there is no backing out. I’m hoping to do it one day! Good luck with St. George!

Reply

I’m running St. Gorge too! I was shocked when I saw the email today and then just got SO excited!!! This will be my first time running this marathon. I cannot wait! I’m excited for you too!!

Reply

Congrats on St. George. Sounds like a beautiful race. And yes, YOU WILL own it!

I will never get tired of Thai food (until I get that nasty disease you got eating it…?!) I came home from Mexico with the stomach flu (we know it wasn’t food poisoning because my kids — who weren’t on the trip — ended up catching it from me) :( — anyway, it took me a while to want Mexican food again. But more like weeks, not years.

And I LOVE spicy food. I used to have spicy food eating contests with my dad. I usually won.

I’ve been in two pairs of shoes today, but “coincidentally”, they are both running shoes. Went for a run in the first pair, then changed into the second pair after my shower, though I did put on “real” (non-workout) clothes to go with them.

Reply

YAY! I can’t wait to follow your training. When do you think you will start? I have a marathon in October and have been trying to build base miles first before training begins.

Reply

I’m running Chicago!
First marathon, first trip to Chicago, first race in the USA.
Can’t be more excited about this!!! I’m doing trailrunning in May, and in June I’ll start with the 16 weeks!!! It will be funny training “together”!

It’ll be an awesome trip, amazing previous workouts, and a lot of motivation!!

And congrats on St. George!!!

Reply

I’m running St George too! It will be my first full…little nervous about that but excited for the sweet summer tank top tan lines coming my way. :) I will never get sick of quesadillas!

The race I’m most excited for this year is SeaWheeze, it’s in Vancouver Canada and it’s run by lululemon. It’ll just be my 4th half marathon but I am very excited because a) it’s at sea level b) you get exclusive shorts included in the race fee c) it’s two days before my birthday and what is better than that?!

I will never get sick of: breakfast food (eggs in any form, hashbrowns), Italian food, Mexican food.

Spice foods/salsa every day! If my meal isn’t at least a little bit spicy, I feel like it’s flavourless.

3 pairs of shoes! + slippers…
