Hill sprints really hurt and our happy place.

Turns out that rain just follows me everywhere that I go these days;)  Luckily, it was only sprinkling on us this morning vs the downpour that we had during the Ogden 1/2 marathon last weekend.

There is a nice little hill right where we are staying and so we started things off with some hill sprints.

10 sprints up with nice and easy jogs down.  As you can tell, I was pretty angry by the end.  I run on the treadmill way too much and so hills eat me alive.  I need to do them WAY more often.

We then took it into the garage for strength/plyometrics.  Having a personal trainer (Megan) around all of the time is sure handy.

Nothing like doing pushups, lunges, planks, squats and burpees on the garage floor.

We made sure to take a post workout picture because we were pretty endorphined (not a word but I think you understand that great feeling that you have after a workout).

IMG 1307

Brooke is loving life with all of her buddies too.

IMG 1486

After lunch we decided to go to the St. George Children’s museum because it was too cold to swim.

IMG 1327

Brooke gave us all quite the performance.

IMG 1330

After the museum we went to the indoor pool.  I think wrinkly fingers are always a good sign because it means you really got a good swim in.

IMG 1342

We actually tried a new place for dinner (we have this problem where we eat at the same three restaurants every time we go out).  We went to The Habit and I had a cobb salad and Brooke loved the grilled cheese and apples that she had.

IMG 1490

Team work.  We’ve got a good system going on over here.  Brooke is currently in a stage where she will only eat red froyo because it is her favorite color.

IMG 1352

After a day of partying with her friends Brooke fell asleep on me at 7 pm.  She loves St. George just as much as I do.  It’s our happy place.

Enjoy your SUNDAY!!!!!

Do you branch out with your restaurants or stick to the same places?

How often do you run hills?

My kids pick froyo by the color too, pretty colors make it taste better :) I was just thinking this morning on my run that I want to add hill repeats back into my routine, they’re tough but so effective.

Here in Florida our hills are bridges and I try to do them once every week or two but I hate them.

Breakfast is a bagel with biscoff, yum!

Reply

We rarely go out to eat – maybe once every few weeks or so!
Hills are my nemesis. Definitely need to run them more often. Love how strong they make you feel, even though they rip you apart :)
Have a great Sunday!

I love going to my regular restaurants! Luckily my husband likes to try news spots and it makes me branch out.
I try to do hills once a week…unless I do a tempo run that week.
I’m heading meet my hubs for breakfast right now! I’ll probably have a bunch of fruit and oatmeal.
Happy Sunday!

Sweet potato hash for breakfast this morning! Yum!

We wnd up going to the same couple restaurants when we are at home, if we travel we have a rule that we won’t eat anywhere that we can eat if we are at home though.

I live in the flattest town ever so I don’t run a lot of hills. I get them in when I can!

Reply

We love trying new restaurants, but we definitely frequent our favorites a lot too! It’s been raining a lot here as well. I think all next week will be rainy.

I do hill sprints once a week and try to incorporate the hills I can find (very tough in the Midwest) into some training runs.

We’re having coffee cake today for breakfast and then going SHOPPING!!

Reply

That is too cute! Isn’t it funny how grown up she is yet how small? You must love those moments! Enjoy your Sunday!

I get stuck in a rut going to the same restaurants, but we live in a small town so there is not a lot to pick between! I have started doing hill sprints thanks to my new coach (yayyyyy)! For breakfast, I spit a banana into 8 slices, slathered it with 4 different kinds of almond butter (I have an addiction), and topped it with so much granola you couldn’t even see the banana:)))) It was DELICIOUS!

Reply

That sounds so good! I have a love of microwaving bananas for a little bit chocolate!

Reply

You need to come to the East Coast. We have actually been having a pretty serious drought here (and I think it’s only supposed to get worse!).

As far as meals, I have been branching out for restaurants. I just updated my diner page to include a map of all the diners I’ve been too so far in NJ (57!)…ha,it’s nice to live in a small state.

While my first reaction was AHHH, RED FROYO IS DANGEROUS! – Brooke seems really tidy and careful!

Sunday breakfast is a (don’t judge) mixture of grits, oatmeal, and turmeric.

Reply

um…Turmeric? I’m not judging…just curious.

Reply

Also, you have a great little blog!

Reply

Bahaha thanks! I’m enjoying yours as well :)

Yeah, so long story short, I’m moving out of my apartment, and my roommate is slowly but surely stealing all of the spices. The other day, all that was left was turmeric and regular table salt, so I said, “mehh, why not?” Tried it, wasn’t bad! Also makes it an interesting color (which, going off of the Brooke-red-froyo-theme means it tastes better)!

You and your friends are beautiful.

I always order the same things when we go to a restaurant. Yesterday we went to the arboretum, and we had never eaten there, I got a grilled veggie flatbread pizza with pesto, and goat cheese, and it was amazing. My Mr. 8 tried a bite and liked it too.

Reply

Rick and I have such a hard time branching out–always end up at our favorites.
The only hill work I do are hills I encounter on my run but since I know where they are I do try to avoid them! LOL. Pre run I had eggs and post run I am having oatmeal.

Reply

I love hills! I try to do them once a week or every other week!

Reply

How long were your hills? I never know what to do…short steep hills or long gradual hills?

We don’t eat out too often but we tend to stick to the same places that work with three kids. Nothing exciting for breakfast maybe an apple with almond butter and some eggs.

Reply

I need to get hills in my running life, soon. I keep telling myself that, because my ultra will be full of them. I will. I will. :)
Breakfast was a banana and GF everything bagel
I don’t branch out when it comes to restaurants. We don’t eat out enough that I’d risk not liking what I get. lol
Can I just say..I can’t believe that picture is you 3 post run/workout!! You guys look great!!

Reply

i used to be the same place kind of person, but now i have branched out, and I must say, i was missing out on some really good and new food!!

Reply

I am the same way, I always eat at the same restaurants, run the same routes, buy the same food at the grocery, etc. I am a creature of habit for sure!

Hope you have a great rest of the day!!!

Reply

I almost always eat at the same restaurants, but now that I’ve moved I have to try new ones, which is fun!
I need to add more hills to my training, especially since there are so many hills near where I live.
Sunday breakfast is blueberry pancakes.
Hope you have a great day!

Reply

Wrinkly fingers!! <3 It has been too long since I've been in a pool!

Happy Sunday!

Reply

I do a gill work out once a week. And because I live on a hill, like a big hill, most of my runs have at least one hill in them.

We haven’t tried a new restaurant in quite a while. Maybe soon.

Reply

It’s been raining for seriously like 4 weeks straight in Texas, so I’m doing a comfort food breakfast this morning of cinnamon rolls, bacon, and eggs!

Hills…I used to do them so often, I probably couldn’t WALK up one right now!

Reply

yep. Here, too. We’ve had more rain here in Denver than Seattle has in the last month. Crazy!

So.much.water. I just keep reminding myself California is having a drought. I am grateful.

Reply

I absolutely pick the same restaurants and order the same things. My three dinners include: Pancakes with banana & chocolate chips, roasted veggie wrap with cashew spread (!!!), and Chipotle salads with ALLTHEGUAC. I pretty much rotate these three meals as my dinner haha.

I never ran in the rain, so I’m pretty sure if a race I was running had downpours… I’d bag it. Well, except if I paid a bajillion dollars.

Reply

We have hills EVERYWHERE around here because we live between the mountains and the ocean. I really notice a difference in my fitness when I’m indoors on the treadmill so much and then go for a run outside. I DIE.

Reply

I tend to stick to the same restaurants but my husband likes to try new ones so he helps me step outside my box :-)
I incorporate hills in my runs about 1-2 times per week. I had to use the treadmill A LOT this winter so I was really feeling it when I got outside again on those hills!
Breakfast for me is an English muffins with peanut butter and honey and eggs!

Happy Sunday to you and Brooke!

Reply

I don’t run hills often enough because I am lazy and stick to my usual route way too often! And yeah, I tend to stick to the same favorite restaurants but this summer I am making it a point to try some new ones!

Reply

Unfortunately I never eat out. I am GF, and I just hate being a pain+risking getting ill, so I just don’t eat out.

This morning I had an egg white omelette and some strawberries with unsweetened cocoa powder on top. Plus coffee!

Reply

yep. It’s really really hard. I agree. I hope it’ll get easier with time. I feel your pain.

Reply

I run hills way more than I would like – comes with the territory of living in Cincinnati haha. I don’t think I will ever completely get used to it. I ran back home in Chicago this weekend on flat land and it felt so amazing.

Reply

My neighborhood is surrounded by hills so unless I drive someplace to run (or run at the gym) I’m running hills.
I made protein pancakes and Iced Coffee to have on my deck this morning. Sunshine makes me so happy.

Reply

I live close to the beach in Florida so my hills are bridges. Though I would like to avoid them I do hills about once a week. :)

Reply

I just had cereal this morning, not great I know, but I have to work and was not eager to wake up!

I love certain restaurants, but we like to try new ones too………the trouble is, if you really like a new one then you have more to choose from and never enough time or money to eat at all of them!!

I run a pretty steep hill at the end of most of my runs because it is on my normal route, but I don’t do repeats as much as I should. I like the uphill parts, downhill makes me nervous I am going to faceplant though!

Reply

It’s kinda good to see that “angry/tougher” look on your face! You seem to talk about running sometimes with laughs and giggles and happiness and like it’s a party…but it’s that extra “edge”, discipline and fighting for it that will push you into new running territory, a.k.a that sub-3 you’re wanting. That’s a whole other beast than 3:12’s and 3:08’s…and the PR’s we did greater than 2 years ago don’t really count towards what we can do NOW (in general) :)

Reply

I like to try new places. Like everyone I have my faves but I like new things.

We are going to a food truck festival today so I have no idea what I will be eating. It is beautiful out today though, so I really don’t care about much else.

My neighborhood is hilly so I pretty much always run hills.

Reply

I run hills once a week and luckily there are a lot of hills that I can get to easily.
We have so many restaurants to choose from and yet I seem to pick the same ones!
Breakfast = oatmeal, egg, fruit
Happy Sunday!

I kept it really simple and boring this morning and just went for the bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios. Usually, I love brunch, but I didn’t eat super well this weekend, so trying to reign it in!

Reply

I loathe hills, but we know we gotta do them, right? I ran some during today’s five mile race. The race starts and ends at a bridge. Good times. I had a post race banana and chocolate milk for breakfast today :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Endorphined. Love it.you should TM that. Seriously.

The beat Lind of fay is one where you wear you self out wit b froends, have froyo and pass out where ever is comfy- Brookes got the right idea!

Reply

I just started running. The hills are killer! Right now I’m just trying to get back in shape then add more hills.

Reply

Brooke is so adorable! I run hills weekly, because around my home that is all that there is! We enjoyed some delicious gluten free pancakes with peanut butter and syrup this morning, it is our sunday usual :) I am also a creature of habit with restaurants, I do love trying new things, however I fall into habits very easily!

Reply

When we are with the kids, we usually go to the same places: Jason’s Deli, Kneaders, Chick-fil-a, or pizza. When it’s date night, hubby and I try new places.

I live by a big mountain here in Phx, so our neighborhood is full of hills. I make an effort to run a hill on anything over 4 miles.

Breakfast today was pancakes with bacon and sausage! Yum!

Reply

With Celiac I tend to stick to the same places that I can trust. I hope to be able to branch out soon though…with lots of education.

I like hills.

Reply

-I usually stick to the same restaurants but explore the menus!!
-I try to incorporate hills into my long runs. But, I have a pretty hard time since Vegas is mostly flat :)
– Breakfast this morning was at the hotel buffet! I just love hotel buffets. I had oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and lots of fresh fruit!

Reply

Creature of routine here… always same restaurants mostly…. and ordering the same foods!

Always need to incorporate more hill work in my work out routine! I too, tend to be more of a treadmill runner(not by choice but due to my schedule) and hill work gets neglected.

Reply

I don’t branch out too often in the places I eat, but I’m usually willing to try different burger places. I ALWAYS love a good burger.

Hill workouts are actually some of my favorites! Plus, it’s so refreshing when you can scale the hills in races without feeling completely spent.

I had my usual weekly dose of the best froyo in the world today after church before getting to spend some time with the fam. I love Sundays. :)

Enjoy your time at your happy place!!

Reply

I can’t imagine you actually angry, you always are super smiley on here. :)

I eat for comfort, so that means lots of the same. My favorite place to eat is at home because I can make things exactly how I like them.

There are not enough hills in my routine, mainly because I do treadmill a lot. Hills outside kick my booty.

Had protein pancakes before church, fried chicken after. (Family tradition here in GA.) I try not to eat too much of the incredibly delicious skin, though.

Reply

We branch out every now and then, but mostly stick to the same restaurants.

Reply

We don’t have a lot of great options for dining here but we still get around to a lot of different places. We do have our favorites though.

We had waffles for breakfast today. I needed pre long run carbs. I usually just have toast and jelly but I felt like living large.

I live in a hilly neighborhood so unless I drive somewhere I have to do hills. But the big one at the end of our hood is down and I usually make DH pick me up rather than run back up. It’s a 250 ft elevation change in about a quarter mile and HURTS when I run up. I do make myself do it once in a while though.

Reply

Aw, sorry the weather hasn’t been holding up for you guys. But it seems like you are having a great time at your happy place!

I’m like you and don’t branch out when it comes to restaurants. If it ain’t broke… ;)

Reply

I don’t do hills that often but now that I am moving on a hill. I am hoping to incorporate them more! :)

Reply

ugh I definitely need to do hills more often too!

Your constant strive to improve inspires me Janae! That black and white picture of you and your girls is awesome! AH Don’t go to the Habit and NOT get a burger! You have to try their cheeseburger next time! They also have delicious onions rings if that is your thing.

Reply

The photo of you running up the hill looks so hardcore! Just motivated me to do hill sprints today! Thank you!

Reply

Looks like a great day! That Cobb salad looks delicious.
