Her biggest wish…

For months my youngest niece has been telling us all about her biggest wish.  She has been dying to go to a fancy restaurant.

My older niece and I decided to plan a night out all together to fulfill this wish:)

IMG 1621

I picked up corsages for the girls because it just felt like the right thing to do.  Curly almost cried she was so excited to put it on.

My sister really wanted me to wear one of my high school prom dresses for the fancy night out but my hot pink fluffy dress from 2002 didn’t make the cut (why I still have that dress is strange to me too).

IMG 1597

My niece’s classification of fancy = the restaurant has stem glasses and cloth tablecloths.

Trees in the middle of the restaurant took it to the next level for her.

IMG 1600

How she ordered her Sprite to the waitress—> “I would like a clear and bubbly and rocks on the bottom.”

IMG 1629

I am pretty sure we each had 4 rolls.  They were right out of the oven and perfection.

IMG 1601

Bruschetta for our appetizer.

IMG 1630

My older niece had the lemon chicken and said it tasted like adult food;)  The waitress and a soda made a great little photo bomb for the picture.

IMG 1632

I told the girls that they could choose to get dessert at the restaurant or that we could go somewhere else for something sweet.  Their response to where to go for dessert made me love them even more…

IMG 1638

They chose Yogurtland.  Yland even had peanut butter froyo which ended the ‘fancy’ night of eating perfectly.

IMG 1640

We took them back to my sister’s house and had a nice little walk/scooter ride around with my sister around the neighborhood.

IMG 1614

Rewind to earlier—> Brooke and I went on a nice little walk…

IMG 1592

and then she hung out with my mom for a bit before going to bed (now that napping is out of the picture she is falling asleep pretty early).

IMG 1615

Time to get busy on my homework.  I like setting big goals.

Two things that you are looking forward to this weekend?

What are your HIGH PRIORITY races for the next year?  Low priority?

Have a long run this weekend?  How far?  Running with anyone else?

Been to any amazing ‘fancy’ restaurants that you loved?  Where?

Too sweet! Only high priority race for now is the NYC marathon, only race I’m signed up for as of now. I’d love to do a half as part of my training but haven’t picked one yet.

What a cute date idea!

My only priority race next year is Rock N Roll DC. I love those sheets you’re using. I may have to steal that idea. It always helps me to write down my plans.

I’m running long, but I haven’t decided how long. Maybe 12? Hopefully I also get to spin tomorrow morning! But a 5 am wakeup call may be too early for a Saturday morning…

Reply

You and your nieces look beautiful! What a fun date!

Weekend plans involve a 12 mile long run (I’m tapering) and lots of sleeping in. Can’t get any better than that!

I’m running Utah Valley in a few weeks, but don’t have anything planned after that. I’m starting to look around for fall races now!

Reply

Curly is so sweet! Love how she ordered her sprite :) Looks like a great dinner.

My sister is moving back to Pittsburgh! She’s lived in California the past 3 years, and I was in college when she moved so I haven’t been in the same city as her for 5 years. Can’t wait to see her!

This weekend is my final long run before my half, so I’ll be doing 12 miles!

My favorite “fancy” restaurant was this beautiful place in the Outer Banks, NC..mostly because my boyfriend just proposed and this was our first dinner as an engaged couple!

Reply

Awe. That is too cute. EVERY girl deserves a fancy night out sometimes :)
I have a 10k that is low priority, and a half marathon that is high priority. I just want to focus on the half this year.

Reply

In the next year my high priority race will be a half Ironman in 43 days! and then hopefully a full Ironman in Louisville next October!

Reply

-This weekend I’m looking forward to running in Rock n Roll SD and eating at all of the local SD spots!
-High Priority is going to be RnR SD next year. I plan that to be my first full marathon! Low priority will be some random half marathons thrown in here and there :)
-Sunday is going to be 13.1 miles of wonderfulness in SD!
-My parents took me to Fleming’s once for my good grades. I loved it, it was so fancy and made me feel all grown up :)

Such a lovely evening! You girls looked stunning :) .

I think four rolls each sounds reasonable. Obviously you had to carbo load for the scootering ;)

My only high priority race is the Chicago Marathon this October. I’d love to do a half marathon before then, but it’s unlikely to happen. It’s so hot here in south florida that we don’t have any races over 5K during the summer!

Reply

Awe girls after my own heart. As you know, I enjoy going to fancy restaurants so I would not mind that at all. ;)

I honestly don’t know about goals yet. I really want to see how ,y short term summer goals go for now. Then I’ll Mae some fall and winter goals too.

I’m excited for our five stake dance festival this weekend! It’s going to be so much fun! Our youth are so fantastic! And a little bit of me is excited because it will be over (I spent seven hours at the church yesterday. My poor children had to hang out there for five.)

The fanciest restraint I’ve ever eaten at was actually at Disneyland. It was so good.

Reply

Adorable! Major aunt points ;) I’m going to start asking for my drinks with “rocks on the bottom.”

Reply

I’m looking forward to froyo and hanging out with my family this weekend. Can’t.wait. I’m hoping today goes by really quickly. :)

I haven’t been to a fancy restaurant in forever! I can’t even remember the last time I went out to eat… :/

I LOVE Yogurtland. The one we have here in Dallas always has good flavors, and it’s one of the cheaper froyo places around. Great choice by your nieces!

Happy Friday! Hope it’s full of SMILES and FUN!! :)

Reply

Going to a wedding this weekend and the bride wants to do a 5K the morning of so I am pretty much just declaring this the best wedding ever.

Excited for a night of dancing (aka me plugging my nose and boogying down) and a dessert buffet!!!

Have an AWESOME weekend!

So cute!
I’m going to a first birthday party tomorrow which should be fun. Looking forward to cake smash face. I’m bringing my camera.
Been running easy 3-4 milers and will continue to do so until July when I start training for nyc marathon.
Next year I plan on reducing my race schedule a whole lot. Gotta feel healthy!
My girlfriends and I go to bobby flay steakhouse a couple of times a year. Expensive but delicious!

Reply

That was a really sweet idea for your nieces. Growing up I had an aunt that did fun stuff like that, memories I’ll never forget :)
The only plan I have is a 50 km in September. I have literally nothing else on my docket and they high priority with that race is just finishing with a smile!!! :)
I have a 6 mile run planned for Sunday.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Reply

Looking forward to tomorrow for my long run, the beach and out for dinner in the beautiful weather :) Love fancy restaurants! It’s so fun to get dressed all nice and have good food too!

Reply

Looks like such a fun night out with the girls! This weekend I am looking forward to going to a wedding! And of course, running:)

Reply

My “A” race isn’t until November but it is the Fort Myers Marathon. I hope to do a half in between then. No long run planned but I’m going running with my dad tomorrow morning, which is always my favorite.
Have a great weekend!

Reply

That is the cutest thing ever. You truly are just such an incredible mom and aunt – I think back to being a little girl and that would have made my LIFE!

Reply

My best friend’s wedding is this weekend! So I’m currently sipping on coffee waiting for my turn to get my nails done :)
My next high priority race is the Chicago Marathon – time to start training next week. Another high priority is the 4th of July 5k – I like to do the same race every year to kinda gauge my speed.

Reply

I can’t believe how grown up Curly is! Looks like you had a great time. Will you be my aunt? :)

Reply

I am focusing on NYC Marathon in November as my goal race! I’m super excited to run it and have heard that the crowd support is absolutely incredible! Two things I’m looking forward to this weekend – going to the beach, and having a BBQ at my apartment! No real long run this weekend, but I’d like to do 9-10 miles both Saturday and Sunday. Hope you have a great weekend!!

Reply

That is so sweet of you to take your nieces out. I’m sure they will remember that for a long time!!

Reply

This is SUCH a cute date. I wish I had an aunt like you growing up ;) I mean, my aunts were amazing but they weren’t YOGURTLAND amazing. (Just kidding, we didn’t even have yogurtland in the 90s).

Reply

No races planned right now. I just want to recover fully from injuries first and not put the added pressure n myself. The earliest I will let myself race is November if I’ve been without injury for three months.

Reply

This is just too sweet! I love that you are an awesome aunt and took the girls out for a fancy night… and that they wanted to end it with froyo. My kinda gals!

Reply

This is the cutest thing ever. I love how excited Curly looks. Priceless. Aunt of The Year!

Reply

Aw, that is too cute! You are the best aunt! :)
My high priority race for the year is Portland Marathon. I want to try to BQ. I haven’t put any other races on my schedule yet and am really focusing on that one.

Reply

I love that overview of priorities for your race season! Sometimes it seems like there is only one goal in sight, but having all this written down puts it into perspective!

Reply

That is the sweetest thing you did for your nieces! I can tell in the pictures how excited and happy they were to be at a fancy restaurant!

Reply

That night is the stuff of memories. I can’t imagine how excited she was for it all. I love her drink order most of all. I will have to try that next time.

Reply

That is SO sweet that you took them to a fancy place! This made my heart happy <3

Reply

Two things I am looking forward to this weekend: Turning 30 tomorrow and going to Disney World! Yup, I am an adult!

Reply

30 is a big deal! Happy Birthday! I’m 37 and most of the time I still act like a kid. Disney World sounds perfect. :)

Reply

So fun!!!! I’m sure they will remember your fancy dinner date for a long time!
I have a 15 miler on the list of things to do tomorrow, but also packing and moving, so it may have to get postponed.
One especially memorable “fancy” dinner was sitting on the back patio at Blue Bayou (the restaurant in the middle of the Pirates of The Caribbean ride at Disney land). Such a cool experience!

Reply

what a sweet thing to do! and love that you really took it up a notch with corsages :)

Reply

My high priority race right now is St. George this fall. It’s been on my bucket list forever! Hopefully my weather is a bit better than you had this last year.

Best restaurant: HoQ in Des Moines, IA. Great farm to table and more veggie options, though I never say no to pork belly.

I love the idea of a fancy girl date! I remember being Curly’s age and having the same dream. What a great aunt you are!

Reply

Such an adorable idea!

Reply

That is absolutely adorable! Everyone once in a while, I love going to fancy restaurants too! We do it so rarely that it’s still such a treat. What a nice evening with your nieces!

Reply

How fun for your nieces!!! I love family things like that.
This weekend I am looking forward to seeing my family, and getting some sleep (its been a crazy week).
My big races are the Chicago marathon, and the Lake Nona FL half marathon (with my best friend who lives there – the running community in her area is so enthusiastic, I am looking forward to that one as much as the marathon).
Trying to train for the Chicago race around a lot of work trips – my long run this weekend will be a whopping 8 miles. Running by myself, because my Chicago friends don’t work out – grrr….
Favorite “fancy” restaurants – way too many good places in Chicago, and I love to eat. Right now I would say anyplace with healthy options – trying to drop a few pounds to help my body out with all the upcoming runs that I have for the marathon.

Reply

That dinner out is the sweetest thing. It’s so special that you got them corsages!
I’m hoping to see the new Avengers movie this weekend but it’s still up in the air.

Reply

I am looking forward to: a road trip and carb loading for my half marathon on Sunday! It’s my third one, and one was in the hot summer (70 start temperature) and one in the winter (-4 start temperature) so I’m looking forward to a 50 degree start temperature instead! It is my boyfriend’s first half marathon and he is going to kick my butt I’m sure.

Reply

What a fun date night!

I get to see my bestie tomorrow!!

My high priority for all running right now is to not get injured! I ruptured my plantar back in January and I’m still struggling with some plantar fasciitis.

Reply

I’m most looking forward to the beach this weekend!!!
Next years goal race: Boston
I just finished my long run: 3:40 minutes of trail!

Reply

What an adorable evening! So cute of you! I actually remember going to my first white tablecloth restaurant as a kid. Now I go to them often, as a foodie in the Bay Area! Have a fabulous Friday and weekend, J! :)

Reply

Oh this is so sweet! And that is a fancy restaurant! It looks so beautiful! I’m glad you had a fun night out with the girls!

Reply

Such a cute little date! I love it!

Planning on running a 10k this weekend. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not long, but my mileage has been pretty low lately so it is long for me right now!

Reply

Can you share the goals page? I’d love to use it!

Reply

This just warmed my heart. Best.Date.Ever.

Reply

I did 12 miles this week, last long run before my 1/2 on the 6th. It was hard bc it was so humid.
My race goals are a full marathon this November, and my favorite race (the one I am about to run!) next June. I may stick on another 1/2 next April. I don’t race too often bc working 40 hrs a week in a physical job is hard enough!
When we went on our Disney cruise last month, every dinner was fancy! The waitresses put napkins on your lap, removed the silverware we did not need for each course, and the whole shebang……….it was crazy!
This weekend………I am watching penguin eggs at work to see if they are going to hatch………………3 are due this weekend!!

Reply

Loved this post, so sweet.

Looking forward to long weekend in the Bahamas with my boyfriend! On a plane right now!,!

Hoping to get in a 10 miler while I am there. Have a half marathon the weekend I get back!

Reply

You are the best aunt ever!!! So sweet! ❤️❤️

Reply

That date sounds fantastic. You are such a stellar aunt.

Is that an entire cup of Boba balls?? #why

Peanut butter fro yo?? It has been too long. I might be waiting at yogurtland’s door when they open at 12.

Reply

Oh my gosh! How sweet! You are the best aunt and your nieces are beautiful!

Reply

That fancy night was PRECIOUS. To be fair, your niece’s definition of “fancy restaurant” is exactly in line with mine. Cloth tablecloths are really all it takes ;)

Reply

Oh my gosh. You are THE best aunt! That is so adorable that you took her and got corsages. SO CUTE.

Two things this weekend: 1. Going to an event hosted by Love Taza in the city 2. A French pastry cooking class in SoHo!

High and only priority: International Peace Marathon in DC in September. I am GOING to qualify for Boston!

13 miles this weekend for the first long run on my training plan.

Best fancy restaurant: Foundry Grill at Sundance!

Reply

This is just so sweet!

Reply

That is so cute!! Prom night for the little loves! Love the clear and bubbly on the rocks :)

Fun time this weekend – our church’s annual international picnic. Everyone brings food from their own country. I’m making Bangers and Mash from my husband’s Irish side and Cannoli from my Italian side!

Reply

2 things I’m looking forward to this weekend:
1) my cousins college graduation on Saturday morning (plus the lunch afterwards of course!)
2) visiting with my Grandma. She is in rehab after falling and breaking her hip. She’s doing really well with PT, but REALLY wants to get back to her BINGO :)

Reply

I hope your Grandma is on the mend, soon. Had to smile at your Bingo comment. Reminds me of my Grandma who used to LOVE Bingo. So cute.

Reply

You are the coolest aunt ever. That is all.

Reply

Soooooooo cute! This weekend- wine party with my neighbors and then my uncle’s birthday party!

Reply

That is so cute that you all got dressed up and went out for a fancy dinner. I still make requests like these to my husband. ☺

This weekend I am looking forward to hiking in the mountains and playing around in the sunshine. It will be the first 80+ degree temperatures of the year in Central Oregon!!!

High priority race next year = Ironman Canada and Boston Marathon

Reply

I’m looking forward to SLEEP and breakfast on Sunday with friends and their little one, hopefully.

My only high priority race is the Portland Marathon in October. And my priority is to finish. Any other races I do (I have at least two halves planned before then) are just prep or icing on the cake.

My husband said he would do 10 miles with me tomorrow since I have to skip my usual running group but I will believe it when it happens.

Portland is all food all the time so I LOVE to go out to eat for fancy and non-fancy dinners. Everywhere. All the time.

Reply

I loved that race!! :) good luck to you.

Reply

Too cute! I love that you spoiled your nieces with a fun dinner date including corsages. Best.date.night.ever! You’re totally giving me ideas ;) Except I don’t have cute little nieces yet. Maybe I’ll just have to convince the boyfriend that we really should relive prom. ha ha ha

Reply

What a fun night out with your nieces, I bet they loved every minute!

Reply

This is so sweet. Love it and love your heart to help this come true for them.

Reply

That is just too cute! You are such a good auntie!

My only high priority race planned now is Route 66 Marathon in November. I do have high hopes to BEAST it! ;)

I’ve been to a few fancy restaurants. While they have all been quite good and a nice experience, I’m just not a very fancy girl and would much rather wear my stretchy pants to grab a burger. Haha!

Reply

That’s so precious, your nieces both look SO happy.

I don’t have a specific priority race, but I’m working on bringing my PR down consistently this year.

Reply

What an adorable outing for you guys ……

Reply

You are the best aunt! Your night out looks like so much fun and a great memory for the girls.

This is recital weekend for us. Piano tonight and two ballet dances tomorrow. Then we have our Open House on Sunday. My goal is to make it through Sunday!

I will only run 5 miles on Sunday (could only “negotiate” 40 minutes to run), because we have to clean for the aforementioned Open House.

No races this year. I am working hard on having an injury free year. So far just nagging aches and pains, that is success to me!

Reply

What a wonderful thing to do for your nieces! I love the trees in the middle! I absolutely love fancy restaurants…they treat you like royalty!

Reply

Awww, what a cute little date night!! I bet they had a blast with you.

This weekend my mom is hosting a bridal shower for one of our family friends, so that will be fun and we are getting our brand new leather reclining sectional delivered, which is the most exciting thing that has happened in a while!!

We don’t go out to fancy restaurants very often, mostly because we prefer beer and bar food, but they do always have the BEST bread, which makes it worth it!

Reply

Looks like you had a fun girls night out.

I’m looking forward to my friend’s birthday dinner tomorrow and brunch with a friend I haven’t seen in awhile Sunday. Also just the general excitement of getting ready for my vacation next Friday.

My high priority race this year is the Rock’n’Roll half in Montreal in September. I’m aiming for a 1:45 (min off my pace from my half in November) and then just surviving the NYC marathon. It’s my first marathon so my only real goal is to finish but I’m also hoping to get under 5. I’d like/need to get a long run in this weekend. I’ll be running alone but hoping to get in 12-15 miles.

I went to Tryon Public (at the top of Manhattan) yesterday. It’s not close to fancy at all but they had an amazing beet burger which says a lot because I usually hate meat substitutes.

Reply

What a sweet date with your nieces! I have a race in a few weeks that is a high priority race, the Pacific Crest half marathon in Sunriver, Oregon. It’s a beautiful and relatively flat course so I’m hoping for a possible PR this year, it’s been a pretty healthy year for me and now I’m working on speed.
This weekend I’m looking forward to getting my yard in presentable order! Right now it looks like Costa Rican jungle :)

Reply

That is so cute! I love it.

Such a fun and adorable date night with your nieces!

Looking forward to my friend Christina’s wedding this weekend, and hitting up my bootcamp class!

This weekend I’m looking forward to date afternoon with my husband on Saturday to see Mad Max at the Alamo Drafthouse and to getting some much needed cleaning done (ahhh the new levels of fun after buying and moving into a smaller home than your rent house).

I’m running my first marathon- the Austin Marathon in February next year.

I’m newish to running so this weekend, I’m going to run 4 miles, followed by my LONGEST RUN I’VE EVER DONE on Wednesday- June 3rd (National Running Day). 6 miles! Pretty excited for it! :)

Reply

Looking forward to hanging out with girlfriends on Saturday and Sunday!
Goal race for next year: Boston!

Reply

This weekend I signed up for the Riverside 24 Hour in Spokane, WA…..it was a spontaneous registration decision. Because I just ran a 50 miler two weeks ago, I have no intention of running the whole 24 hours but I’d like to make it 12 hours….whatever distance that may be.

I have one high priority race….The Burning River 100 in July 2016. Hoping it will still be a Western States qualifier….If not, I’ll be running either the Bryce 100 or Javelina Jundred.

I’m not a huge fancy restaurant person. As a food lover, I always find the food much too petite and delicate. I’d love a greasy bacon cheeseburger over a tiny plate of “quality” fish with tablespoon of rice anyday.

Reply

It’s a cut-back weekend for me so I’m running 10 miles on Sunday. I want to go on record and say that there was time (not that long ago) that 10 miles would not be considered a “cut-back week”
Next year’s priority race is the Athens Greece Marathon (really saving towards it).

Reply

I have to tell you, I pcked cottage cheese and grapes for my lunch today and it was amazing. Thanks for the suggestion!!

I’ve been under the weather with a chest infection this week, so I’m taking it easy this weekend.

I’m training for a triathlon in August and a couple of smaller runs over the summer but that’s it till the fall.

Reply

Such a fun idea! I’m glad Curly had a good time

Reply

Those girls are so lucky to have you….what a sweet night <3

Reply

Thank you Janae for introducing me to Rachel Platten! I’ve been listening to her on Pandora and I’ve loved every song! Have a great weekend!

Reply

That is just the cutest thing ever! Sounds like you guys had a great time. I have a race this weekend but since my training was off and I got sick this week, I am not shooting for a PR. I am thinking my race in October will be my PR. Fingers crossed!

Reply

How cute is your niece?! She’s getting so big!
I love that performance goal worksheet. I’m not that calculated and organized in my racing, but perhaps I should be.
Speaking of racing, I’m up at 4am this morning to rock a 10k that I just signed up for yesterday. Should be fun (and HOT!).
I like fancy restaurants every now and then. My husband and I went to this really neat one in Lake Placid a few months ago… couldn’t pronounce anything on the menu, but when it came to us, it was delish!
Happy weekend, girl!

Reply

Holy best aunt award ever!! I am loving this! And La Jolla Groves is our favorite! So yummy! The rolls are the best! Those girls adore you and you are an amazing aunt. I think we need a Fro Yo date again ASAP for PB fro yo. The best!!

Reply

My high priority race is the Great North Run in England in September… I may do the Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon in Dublin for a fun day in August… It’s also my birthday then, so almost like a painful birthday treat… :)

Reply

That looks like an awesome restaurant! I love the lights hanging from the trees! A high priority race for next year is the rock and roll seattle half! I’ve been dying to do it for years now!
