Burpees hurt, tennis lessons and we just could not get any cooler.

Megan and I hit up the gym first thing yesterday morning because a good sweat is the best way to start a Saturday.   

She had us do burpees with a medicine ball as part of our legs and core workout.  I was panting after each set of 15.   

Lift the ball over your head (we used 15 lb balls), throw it down to the ground and then do that whole burpee thing before picking up the ball and doing it all over again.

Why are burpees so ridiculously hard?

We also got to see a bit of the Ironman 70.3 going on in St. George yesterday.  The bikers were FLYING by us.

We picked up Mad Pita for chicken, pitas and rice pilaf to eat at the pool.  Brooke absolutely approved of our restaurant choice.

Followed by Brooke’s first tennis lesson.  An interesting thing happens—>   When you think that after ten years of not playing that you are still going to be good at tennis because you used to play back in high school—>  you are wrong.   I think I need to get practicing again:)  

Brooke loved it though.  Her enthusiasm about trying new things makes life really fun for me.

I love that Brooke is such an active kid. I really wish my parents had pushed me to be more active. Maybe then I would have discovered my love for running before my mid-20s!

Never had a beet. not really interested in trying one.
I used to play tennis in high school! I was on the tennis team and went to lessons twice a week at some academy.
This morning was my wake up early morning. Yesterday was my day to sleep in. Have to take turns when you have kids that get up early!

I actually love beets. Maybe it’s an acquired taste? I used to play tennis in grade school but haven’t played much since. I wish I could sleep in but I’m ALWAYS up early!

I really don’t think I’ve ever tried beets and now I don’t think I ever will :)
And today was an early day. Actually every day is an early day with a 3 month old!

You have never tried a real beet unless you have roasted them! Buy them fresh, clean them up, toss in olive oil and salt and roast. They taste like you are eating a bit of heaven. They are very sweet, almost like candy. Have a beautiful Sunday.

When I was in NYC a few years ago beets were on EVERYTHING. I loved them! Then, I came home and tried to prepare them myself …. epic fail.

I’m with you! I can’t stand beets. They taste like dirt. I don’t think I will ever grow to like them. I’m at 5:30 this morning. Not by choice but because the sun is up and when it rises so do I!

I think beets are OK, but my toddler loves them! He and my MIL share a sick obsession with them. They even planted some in her garden to share.

I slept in a little! I have a lot of party prep to do for my son’s birthday party today and I had intended to get up early to prep and run, but I hit snooze too many times. No run for me till later!

I slept in till 8:00 on the East Coast today, which is really strange to me. Normally my internal clock goes off at 5:30 in the morning.

My co-worker is trying to convince to do a triathlon later this summer AHHH the thought of someone kicking my nose in the open water swim is enough to keep me on shore and a simple spectator ;-)

I love beets! I once ate so many when I was little that I got scared when I went to the bathroom that something was wrong! Haha

Never played tennis for my school, but my cousins and I would play around at the courts in the summer. We had so much fun!

And I did sleep in a little today, but still heading out for my long run. Going to get hot, but that’s what I get for waiting!

Hahahahaha! I love beets so much and this happened to me, also! I actually went to the ER because I didn’t get the connection.

I love them all…red, golden, chioga. They are a staple on every salad for me.

Truth be told, I am scared to try beets!
I was up before the sun (as usual) this morning–wonderful 15 mile bike ride.
I keep thinking I should sign up for a tri. I run, swim & bike each week for my training and I think it might be fun!

-I’m a little odd and love beets :) Same with Brussels sprouts!
– Oh goodness I would never want to endanger someone’s life by playing tennis with them. My eye hand coordination is lacking. It would not be pretty :)
– I slept in a teeny bit and got up at 6 rather than 5! I got the full nine hours in though! Yay!
– I would love to do a tri, but would definitely have to train for the swimming. That would be the toughest part for me for sure!

While you’re down in St. George you should drive a couple hours to Vegas!!

Can’t even take her ltitle bathing suit. So adorable!!!! How you feel about tennis was how I felt about skiing after 5 years snowboarding.. just because I started at 2 and was very good when I switched over to boarding, doesn’t mean I wasn’t VERY rusty!!

I am a beet lover! Fresh roasted beets in a salad with goat cheese and vinaigrette is the best. I don’t judge though- we all have our dislikes! Mine is celery.

I woke up at 6:30 but layer in bed for a bit this morning which was nice. Usually I am up and at it to run but today is my off day.

Ugh beets are totally the worse. Gross. I have never really played tennis–my high school didn’t have a tennis team, so it wasn’t even an option. I woke up early today (for me, at least) to go to breakfast with my husband and his dad. Pretty much the only thing that will get me out of bed is the promise of a delicious breakfast with coffee. :)

I have done a few sprint tris, and I really enjoy them, but I’m not very good. I enjoy all three sports, but doing them together seems to make each one exponentially more difficult ha. I think elite triathletes are just amazing, especially at the Ironman distance!

Beets are ok, I don’t usually go out of my way to eat them, though I know they’re good for you.

Beets are one of my favorite vegetables! They’re best when they’re roasted.
I am an awful swimmer so I don’t think I’ll ever do a tri, but I really admire those who do!

I love beets! Lately I’ve been making a cabbage carrot salad with shredded beets. So good! Beets are said to increase athletic performance because of the nitrate content.

Slept in till 6am!

My favourite tri is one I do way up here in Canada called Great White North. It attracts about 800 athletes. It’s like a reunion every year. Sadly one that I am not doing this year. :(

I used to hate beets, but I had them on a salad at a cozy Italian restuarant for my birthday this year and I loved them!

I stink at tennis. I like volleyball, but that is about the only sport with a ball that I am any good at!

I love to juice beets and toss the greens into my salads but eating them, I haven’t got there yet.

My BFF and I tried to pay tennis once and only once. I don’t think I am coordinated enough for all that movement.

I got to sleep in this morning to the blissful time of 6am. The tiny Boxer dog needed to go out so I grabbed a cup of coffee and my book and snuggled on the couch with her until the rest of the house, aka the boys, woke up and demanded food.

Oh and I used to hate beets but have since learned to love them and now they are one of my very a route salad toppings I even tried growing them once so I could have an unlimited supply. Unfortunately they didn’t grow.

Beets are disgusting. Totally slept in today! Due with first baby any day now so I’m soaking up my last days of sleep. And the best race EVER is the St George 70.3! Did it last year and wanted to do it this year but baby timing prevented that from happening ;) enjoy lovely St George!

Beets = ew! They have no flavor.
I got to sleep in 2 days in a row (8:30) which sort of makes up for the bad sleep due to a cold over the last two weeks! Now, I just need to find the energy to work out this morning!

I hated beets until I tried them roasted. Boiled beets taste like dirt. Roasted beets taste delightful.

I slept for 10 hours. It was amazing. Utterly amazing.

People keep telling me I should try a tri. Then I have to admit that I can’t ride a bike and can barely swim.

I slept in way too late. Eek. I love beets, not too many, but they add sweetness to an otherwise green salad.

I’m not a fan of burpees – I’m surprised people are still doing them?! They’re awkward and if you aren’t aware of your core, it’s easy to get sloppy and hurt your back. But that’s just my .2 cents! I’m a big fan of mobility training and plyometrics which can add the explosiveness (strength + speed) you’re probably trying to achieve with the burpee.

Beets are amazing! I played tennis as a child and am still decent at it whenever I try to pick it back up. I wanted to sleep in but woke up at 6 – dang internal clock! I ran a 10 mile race yesterday and it was awesome :)

I like beets if they are sliced thin, like shredded carrots. I just wish they didn’t stain my hands and clothes so easily! I slept in a little late today, woke up a few times and hit the snooze button before crawling out of bed at 815 :)

I’ve only ever had beets from my in-laws garden– like picked and cooked within 20 minutes. It’s pretty good! My husband is MAJORLY into Triathlon. He just spent enough for a year of college on a new bike! We did a “no kids” trip to the Canary Islands for his first IronMan– AWESOME!!

I really like beets! Slept in a little bit today.
My husband and I did a few tris before our kids. We had road bikes and all the gear – it was so fun! My favorite was when I went to Maui to do an olympic distance tri. The water was so beautiful – sea turtles were distracting while I was trying to swim!
Would love to do an Ironman someday.
Took tennis lessons as a kid. Played with my girlfriends last summer and realized how rusty I am! Need more lessons! :)

Looks like a fun weekend!

Beets: No! (also no peas or cucumbers — so Meagan doesn’t need to worry about me stealing her salad).

Tennis: I also found out the hard way that picking up a tennis racquet isn’t exactly like riding a bike. I just took a few lessons so I could re-engage my tennis brain. I also realized how much I love and missed tennis!

I got to sleep in this morning, but it was after a late night — so it didn’t feel like it!

Triathalons are for people who seriously know how to swim. And don’t get freaked out about all kinds of people splashing around and possibly kicking you in the face. That wouldn’t be me. I might do a duathalon some day, but definitely not a tri.

I didn’t get to sleep in this morning, but I slept in 2 extra hours yesterday and it was AMAZING. I really needed to catch up on sleep!
The pool looks so refreshing. I am looking forward to our first pool day of the season – hopefully soon :)

I LOVE tennis! I didn’t play for the high school team, but I’ve been playing for fun for as long as I can remember. My parents played professional racquetball and then played a sport called Frontenis internationally, so they always encouraged us to play racquet sports.

I got up earlier than I prefer for a Sunday morning, but I needed to get my run started early. Thankfully it was a wonderful morning for a run!

By the way, I tried the TJ Thai peanut dressing–SO good. Thank you! :)

I was up at 3am and at my race (very very early) by 4am. I tend to get up insanely early on race days.
Beets are horrible horrible things.
I’ve never played tennis (I possess very little hand eye coordination) and never done a tri because I’m likely to fall off the bike. I would do a tri relay though. I can swim or run, but the biking part sucks for me :(

I used to play tennis when I was at school – I even played at national level here in Aus. But I haven’t picked up a racquet in maybe 15 years, so I have no doubt that I would be starting from scratch again if I tried.

I spent the weekend trying to recover from my second bout of the flu in a month, so I definitely slept in. In fact, I hardly left my bed all weekend!

I was at the St. George 70.3 Ironman! My brother completed it. I got to be a volunteer at one of the run aid stations. The most incredible experience! I am getting ready for my 70.3 Ironman in September.

Ugh, I am NOT a fan of beets, they’re just weird. I played soccer in high school and I’m pretty sure I’m no good at that anymore either. I woke up early this morning to run a half marathon! Looking forward to sleeping in a bit tomorrow though :)

I am not a fan of beets. I can handle throwing in a small piece in my smoothies, but that’s the extent of it.

And, I woke up early today to go running. Not crazy early, but earlier than I would normally get up on the weekend.

I like beets, I didn’t try them until I was like 25 though. Didn’t sleep in today, it was long run day and I like to get that done as early as I can. I slept in yesterday though. I’ve never done a tri but I’m awful at swimming so I think it might be better for me to stick to just running. As for tennis, I have never actually played. The only thing I have used a tennis racket for is to kill bats in the house my friends and I lived in our senior year of college. Haha

Fresh beets roasted are pretty good, they are very sweet and used tom be the big sugar crop before cane I hear.Likely excellent for tie dying white T shirts.

Beets must be cooked and hot and slathered with butter and salt, and then I find them pretty darned good! I pee red for a long time after though.

My parents are avid tennis players and have been for 50 years, strange how I never ever caught the bug. I’m a long distance runner through and through.

I like beets but they aren’t exactly a staple in my household. Trader Joe’s has some nice ones in vinaigrette.

I played Tennis as a child and just recently started hitting the ball with my 9 year olds. Definitely lots of laughing going on during our practice sessions.

Favorite triathlon is Malibu Triathlon. Fun atmosphere and some fabulous people watching.

I did get to sleep in today. Once a week is a must, otherwise I need to squeeze a nap in here and there.

I’m with your friend…I LOVE beets! I eat them every day! Trader Joe’s has great baby organic beets – steam & eat :-) They are supposed to be a good food for athletic performance…

Funny fact-my first two marathons were in Ironman Canada/Coer d’Alene. I finally ran a stand alone marathon when my 4th baby was 7.5months old. Truth be told, I was so scared to run that marathon without the multiple hour warm up ;)

Tennis-I think I can play, but my kids tell me differently. They all play. Apparently ball sports aren’t my thing, which is great that I love to run, bike, swim, hike, etc…I do have mad wii tennis skills though!

I really like beets. My fiance’s bohemian family eat’s a lot of beets, cabbage, and potatoes, so when I met him I thought that I didn’t like them either. Canned beeets aren’t the best, but if you have Harvard beets, or pickled beets, I swear your mind will change.
I totally agree on the tennis thing. I was team captain in high school. I tried to play last year (only 10 years after high school, no big deal) and could barely get the ball over the net without it being a lob. seriously where does it all go?!

Beets are the best! Like someone said above, you have to bake them (usually 45-60 minutes, wrapped in foil, at 450 degrees). Then you wait for them to cool, peel the skin (which should come off easily), chop into bite-sized pieces, and toss with the following dressing: balsamic, olive oil, splash of honey mustard, sesame oil, salt and pepper. Cool. Eat. Seriously amazing. I used to LOATHE beets for a very long time until I tried this.

I LOVE beets. hahaha I know that most people hate them but I could eat a whole can any night. A friend at work brings me them fresh from his garden because and I quote”You are the only freak that actually like these things.” I actually made a mention to beets on my blog last week.

Beets are awesome! I love beets and love them in salads, with goat cheese and nuts, I also have a great recipe for baked beet chips. They’re really good for you so your friend should be really healthy.
Burpees are tough, man. Kudos to you for getting them done.
