My favorite app now has over ONE MILLION books available for me to read anytime that I want and from anywhere that I want.  For just $9.95 a month you can have access to all of these books—>  it is like Netflix for books.

Oyster has books in every genre!  They have everything from the classics to new releases to New York Time’s Best Sellers and award winners.  They add new titles every single day.

Brooke has even figured out how to use it. She loves picking out kids books for us to read together.   The colors and artwork are vibrant and beautiful on the app!

Something that I really love about using Oyster is that the app is always with me because I always have my cell phone with me (it is accessible on IOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Nook HD and on the web).

I can go from reading my current book on my iPad while on the treadmill in the morning to picking right back up where I left off on my phone later on in the day.  I spend many afternoons reading on my phone using Oyster, sitting in the parking lot waiting for Brooke to wake up.  I have learned from experience that waking up a toddler prematurely after they fall asleep in the car is never a good idea.  Oyster makes this time sitting in the car enjoyable.

Oyster also makes planking a lot less boring)

Oyster has recently come out with something new—>  THE STORE.

This store makes it possible for subscribers and non-subscribers to purchase and read virtually ANY ebook on Oyster (including all new releases and pre-orders).   If you find a book that is not in subscription you can buy the book and read it on the Oyster app in seconds. The books that you buy are yours forever!

You don’t have to be a subscriber to enjoy the store!  They have books in every genre, from the top 5 publishers and you can read books from James Patterson, Gillian Flynn, Stephen King, Anthony Doerr, Walter Isaacson, Donna Tartt, J.K. Rowling and MANY, many more.   PS Tina Fey’s book, Bossypants, was hilarious!

I’m stoked that I have plenty of awesome books ready for me to read from Oyster on my airplane ride to BOSTON.  Nothing like reading all about running while you are on your way to the most exciting race of your life!  PS you can read books using Oyster offline (i.e. on the plane)!

Here’s what is on my current reading list!  I love having a variety of books to choose from based on what I am feeling like reading that day:)  Another feature about Oyster that I love is that you get spot-on recommendations based on what you like to read.  This feature has helped me to find some of my new favorites.   Oyster also has exclusive book reviews (which I always check out before starting a book) and author interviews written by their award-winning editorial team!

I must say that I’m still a bit old-school when it comes to reading books and magazines – hard copy and in a hot, steaming bath. Bliss :) . Perhaps one day I’ll catch on to the e-reading trend…?

Looks awesome, but I have never gotten into reading on my tablet. I actually still go down to the library and check out books! Just love the whole experience of going, picking out a book, checking it out and HOLDING a book in my hands :)

Once A Runner….I’ve been meaning to read that one! I also want to read It Was Me All Along. So many things to do and read, but never seem to have enough time.

I looked into Oyster a few month ago when Carrots N Cake wrote about it, but it seems to have really improved since then! Lots of newer stuff. Girl on a Train! Ok, I’m in!

That “Women Who Run” books looks interesting…

Is Oyster only available in the U.S? I only have a Kobo anyways so it doesn’t sound like it’s compatible…bummer!

I’ve been meaning to try this! It sounds like a really good deal. Nothing like getting wrapped in a good book.

“Once a Runner” is the best. I was just thinking about re-reading it. When you finish, read “Again to Carthage”, it’s the sequel and about the marathon :)

Brain on Fire was really good, and you have giving me some new titles for my reading list! The weather is gorgeous in New England – welcome!!!

I wish I could read books on a Kindle! There’s something about having a physical book and seeing how far I have left to go that I just can’t give up. Definitely a great service though for people who love ebooks!

Cool! I use my Kindle app and purchase books through Amazon most of the time, but this is a neat idea.

I love that you read while planking… I usually scroll Instagram or play candy crush to make my planks fly by :)

Brain on Fire is AWESOME! Love memoirs and crazy medical mysteries and this is the best of both. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

She’s Come Undone is worth the read! You’ll enjoy it!

I hope you’re planning to bring your running gear in your carryon. Just a little reminder :)

I’m taking the train down to NYC to run this weekend and am going to read the Girl on the Train. I figured it’s fitting and gets great reviews.

Ha! I thought the exact same thing when I saw those PureFlows in a bag!

I absolutely LOVED She’s Come Undone- I read it probably about 12-14 years ago, and it has stuck with me ever since.

Also, I wanted to wish you luck running Boston! You’ve worked so hard, I am sure you will rock the race. The energy is like no other–back when I was a college student in Boston, we all got “Marathon Monday” off from school, and I cried the whole time I was there because of how excited I was for the runners, and from how powerful the energy was (I mean really, what 18 year old doesn’t cry in public from sheer joy?) It is one of those races that if you are anything like me, the course support alone will make you cry and will carry you for all 26.2 miles. You can do it, Janae!!

I loved She’s Come Undone. I read it a long time ago. Love reading on my Kindle and just ordered Brain on Fire. Can’t wait to read it. I have more books to read than I have time to read. sigh.

Fly safe! I love that they have Harry Potter :)

Reading to stay in plank longer…that is genius! I don’t know how you (and several of my friends) read multiple books at once – the Type A in me just can not start one book before finishing another. It’s a curse, I think because it seems to work well for so many other people!

Best of luck at BOSTON!! Wow – such an amazing and unforgettable run you are about to experience. Can’t wait to read all about it!

Thanks for the book recommendations. I’m always looking for good ones. I’ve just discovered as I’ve been training for the Ogden Marathon that I love audio books while I am running! I used to just listen to music, but my mind would wander. With a good audio book, I get caught up in the story and before I know it, my long run is over! I’m looking forward to trying this app as well! Good luck in Boston. Is this the first time you have ran it?

I love Brooke’s yellow shirt!
I loved She’s come undone. Give it a read :)

hahaha reading while planking- such a good idea!! I need to try that :)

She’s Come Undone is an absolutely fabulous read! You will never believe that a man wrote that story. I read it years ago, and it is still one of my all-time favorites!!! P.S. Happy Boston!

Reply

I spend SO much money on Kindle books, I really should try this!

Reply

This. Is. Awesome!!!
I will sign up for sure as I am such a book nerd.
You will love She’s Come Undone!
I hope you are having a wonderful Thursday and that you are feeling better!!

Your book selection makes me think of another running related book:
Has anybody read Older, Stronger, Faster by Margaret Webb? She is a Toronto writer. Great book.

Reply

Your local library will have ebooks, downloadable audiobooks and possibly videos and ezines. All for free!!!

PLEASE put your shoes in your carry-on! If your luggage goes missing, even for a minute, it’s not worth the stress. Shorts, socks, etc. you can replace, but not your shoes!
Rock it! The weather in BOSTON looks perfect!

Reply

Available in the US only. Just like Kindle Unlimited. I am sad :-((

Brain on Fire was a really great book. The librarian knows in my town knows I like biographies and set it aside for me. It’s terrifying and inspirational and just very interesting. Also, you can NEVER go wrong with Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I loved it. Short little reads that are so clever. Have you watched with series? AMAZING. Give it a try. Easily one of my favourite shows.
Praying for a wonderful Boston day.
You show that race who’s boss ;)

“Girl on a train” was so good! Not sure if they have audio books on the app, but Amy Pohler, “Yes Please” was awesome! She narrates the whole thing. And PS (she’s from Boston)! Good luck on the marathon and welcome to MA! If I wasn’t working Id be there to cheer you on!
