Monday Matters!!!

-Brooke calls this my ABC shirt.

It will always be my favorite base layer for when I run.  This thing keeps me incredibly warm which is strange because it has a million little wholes.

IMG 6382

-Our love for candy is genetic.  My aunt showed me her car candy stash yesterday and shared a 3 Musketeers with me.

IMG 6493 2

-I sure lucked out to have this girl live so close to me.  Most of our friends are married so we get to experience all of the dating ups and downs together…  We need to start a separate blog about dating because it sure is an interesting world.

IMG 6477 2

50 Pictures That Look Just Like Your Childhood made me extremely happy.

-Every morning when I was little my mom and I would watch The Price is Right while she was doing her workout on the treadmill at home.   Good memories and I hope to play Plinko someday.

Screen Shot 2015 03 02 at 9 27 00 AM

-Yeah, I remember attempting to run with one of these when I was 14 and having my songs skip more than actually play.

Screen Shot 2015 03 02 at 9 26 44 AM

-It is strange, when I am marathon training I have dreams about loaves of bread.

IMG 6204

-I got really excited when I opened my email to see that Netflix had a movie for me to watch… and then I opened it and realized they were recommending Curious George for me.

IMG 6487

-I ate a ridiculous amount of Frosted Mini Wheats when I was pregnant with Brooke and she is still in love with them.  She asks for them every time we go to my mom’s house.

IMG 6529

-Today I had another runner’s pet peeve occur to me.  My tank kept riding up the entire run.  I probably had to adjust it every .1 miles.  I finally just tucked my shirt in and pulled the drawstring nice and tight.  It looked really cool.

IMG 6508

-9 miles @ 8:34 pace while reading THIS book…  I have read Andie’s blog for years.  She is an incredible woman and writer.

I love that Run Happy top!
I am currently reading Platform by Michael Hyatt and learning so much!
I regularly remember my dreams and they are usually nuts.
Monday matters: I’m making a new mushroom Marsala pasta recipe for dinner tonight and my house smells so good!!
I haven’t watched price is right in years, but I loved it when I was home sick as a kid:)

Reply

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to play Plinko! I would be terrible at the games where you have to guess the price of the item.

I’ve been reading Beth Kendrick’s books the last few weeks. They are cute and quick reads. I go back and forth between reading biographies and non-fiction to more lighthearted books. I’ve seen that book several times and heard it was excellent, I need to read it!

Reply

Unfortunately I’m not reading anything at the moment but since I’ve been sick all day it would have been a good time to read….oh well.

Reply

Oh hey, Bob! Watching that show was a must whenever I was home sick. I also watched a lot of Mary Kate and Ashley movies!
I haven’t read a book since the summer…I have many to read though! I want to make my way through the Iliad and the Odyssey this summer (#nerdlife).
My Monday matters included an 8 mile run, and now I have lots of studying and homework to do!

Reply

Ahhhhh…. I took Milton in University and couldn’t get through it. I barely passed and ended up changing my English major to a minor and majoring in Kinesiology instead. THAT is how difficult I find his writing. You are a strong woman to get through those!

Reply

Uh… oh, wow. I realllllly wish I could delete my last comment because Homer wrote those two epic novels, not Milton. See? That’s how super awesome I did in that class. Sigh…

Reply

I hardly ever remember my dreams but my fiance remembers EVERY SINGLE ONE of his. I think it is so weird…but I wish I could remember mine.

I used to love the game where they guessed the prices of random items like dish soap and toilet paper. I ruled at that game haha.

Reply

I’m reading 80/20 Running bt Matt Fitzgerald right now. So far lots of good info in it!
I totally have mundane dreams about something I want also. I dreamt the other night about shaving so I could wear running shorts.
Monday Matter: I want all the snow to melt! In my mind once it’s March there should be no snow.

Reply

My Grandpa used to watch Price Is Right all the time! He would get really upset if he missed it. I’ve been wanting to read Andie’s book. I love her blog and can relate to her weight loss after losing 80 pounds 5 years ago myself.

Reply

I’m not going to admit to the books I’m reading at the moment. Which probably makes me sound seedier than I meant, but I am embarrassed. OK – just so you don’t think the worst, I’m currently going through a college romance short novel phase. Mindless fantasy. Maybe I’m having a midlife crisis?!?!?

I think the last dream I can remember was about my dog Angus. He was in a big group of dogs that all looked like him! But I knew which one he was :)

Yesterday (which was Monday for me) I walked to the train station for my commute to work, and it was a really lovely way to start and end the day! I’m going to do it more often.

Reply

I used to love watching Price is Right when I was a kid and home from school sick!

I would love to hear more about your dating highs and lows haha! I have been separated for a year and have still been too intimidated to re-enter the dating game.

Also, I’m sure you have been asked this before, but for your regular runs do you have any incline on the treadmill?

Thanks :)

Reply

Hey Tara!! I usually keep it on a 1% incline. For speedwork I do a .5% incline. As far as dating goes… don’t do it until you are 100% ready! No rush! I will have to write a post about the highs and lows asap! Good luck and I am so sorry about your separation!

Reply

Thanks so much!! I needed to hear that!

It is comforting to know that there are others going through the same thing and are getting through it :)

Reply

You’re the second blog I read today that’s recommended that book! I just downloaded the sample and I can’t wait to start. I just started my sisters grave but it’s a quick read so far :)

What was your last dream (that you can remember) about? Do you remember your dreams often?
-I have VERY vivid dreams every night, and feel really renlisting. I can usually remember them for a while and share them with my SO every morning because he has odd dreams as well!

Price is Right fan? What game would you choose to play?
-I just want to spin the wheel and play showcase showdown!

Reply

I LOVE price is right! And I feel you on shirts riding up being a pet peeve. That’s why most of my favorite running tops are really loose. It’s such a struggle to find a fitted one that doesn’t ride up and show my belly!

Reply

i am reading that book RIGHT NOW!!!! :D

Reply

I just finished Mile Markers… it was a life changer!! Now I have Charlie St Cloud and Born to Run for reading. I read more than one book at a time.. it’s kind of like having multiple TV shows that you watch!

Just did the post run power exercises.. they killed me!! But I feel super strong after!

Reply

I hate it when tanks/shirts ride up when I run too!! I always try SO hard to fix it by tucking my shirt into my running shorts, but it never works for long!

Right now I’m reading Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks (talk about a throwback) and The Reason for God by Tim Keller. I highly recommend both! :)

I can’t remember my last dream specifically, but it had people I went to grad school in it. It’s funny how you dream about people you haven’t seen in a long time!

Since we are moving from Boise to Provo in May I signed up for emails from the City of Provo. Just got this one about some type of rally to get a Trader Joe’s in Provo. I’m so sad to be moving someplace that doesn’t have one just down the road :(. Thought you might be interested http://provomayor.com/2015/03/02/casting-call-for-trader-joes-video/

Reply

I just finished “Me Before You” by Jojo Meyers and it was fantastic! Not a lot going on this Monday…we’ve got about a foot of fresh snow and I’m still so sore from the marathon on Saturday! Lots of resting and movies :) and snacking of course.

Reply

Speaking of dating…. are you still seeing “the boy”.? haha hmm.

and when you say read, do you actually read the book, or do you do audio books.? I recommend audio books. I love flipping pagez of a book, but audio books are soo nice for running. :)

anyways…. oh the struggles of the 90s and early 2000’s. Those darn cd players. haha

Reply

That’s so funny i got the same email with the Curious George Movie. I thought the same thing before i opened it and was bummed when i did. I guess my son has been watching a lot of Curious George lately!!!.

Reply

I love staying home sick with Bob! Minus the actual being sick part. haha I’d love to go on that show!

Reply

I always used to watch The Price Is Right when I was little! I would either play plinko or the game where you have to guess the price of the different items!

Reply

I have that talk to you and I absolutely adore it… I wear it all the time as a base layer! I find it super cozy which is awkward because of all the holes!

The price is right reminds me of my mom and sister… They used to watch it every day at lunch!

Reply

Right now I’m reading Paris by Edward Rutherfurd. I’ve read of few of his books before and really enjoyed them. Plus they’re historical fiction which I also like.

Reply

I love your pink top! Right now I am just reading my scriptures and conference talks. I really need to read a book though, and stop spending my extra time at night on social media ha! My hubby loves frosted mini wheats too, but I have got to be honest, I don’t see why people like them so much…..

Reply

dating this time around sure is interesting, to say the least! I have a best friend living next door to me who is in the same situation as me (divorced single mom)which certainly makes it that much more bearable and amusing though!

Reply

Come out to Utah and we can all talk about it together;) Also, LOVED your recent post about the treadmill and the workout that you posted!

Reply

Aw thanks! And yes, it would be awesome to chat and compare our crazy dating stories!

Reply

I recommend “Nobody is Ever Missing” by Catherine Lacey.. where a woman leaves her husband and family and NY.. and instead goes to New Zealand in source of a new life. —Even better is “Days of Abandonment” by Elena Ferrante–where a woman and mother to two has to deal with a bit of a breakdown after her husband leaves her for a younger woman.

18 days until SPRING. We definitely watched Price is Right every time that we had school off.. including Spring Break.

In a recent dream, I eloped to Paris in order to marry a man of a different race… apparently our relatives were opposed to the marriage… in reality though, I have no idea where the dream came from because I have never seen the man in the dream.

Reply

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I can’t wait to read both!!!!

Sounds like a real good dream to me:)

Reply

Okay, so does this mean that you and cute (I’m sure he has to be) little runner boy from California are no longer dating? I was seriously hoping for a proposal announcement soon. ;) J/k

Reply

Did you eat those breastfeeding too? I literally go through a box of those in 4 days.

Reply

SURE DID!!!! I couldn’t stop!!! We need a phone date soon please!

Reply

You can read when running that pace? I’m super impressed. I watch TV on the treadmill but I can’t read unless I’m walking and even then it’s not my favorite.

Reply

My husband is self employed (and I work from home) so when he has an off day I always find him watching the Price is Right. It makes me laugh because I think he secretly dreams of being on that show!

Reply

Hahahah that is awesome! Make his dreams come true and go to the show;)

Reply

Oh, I know, Janae. I really should do that. I am laughing just thinking about if he actually got to play!

Reply

I had completely forgotten about having a discman! Good times.

Reply

Can you share some dating stories on this blog? Those would be fun to read!

Reply

Yes!! I really need to! The only problem is that most of the people I have dated or gone out with know about this blog because it goes out on Facebook too…. It makes for a lot of awkwardness!

Reply

I am laughing at the Curious George movie because my 2 year old is obsessed with “Up we go” by Lights, and I think we legitimately contributed to a couple percentage points of the total views in the past few months. So much so that YouTube emailed us when her new song came out!

Reply

I am reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed………..so far so good! I would play anything on price is right, but I would not be annoying………..some of those contestants are nuts!

Reply

I just finished that book. Made my runners feet feel better about themselves…

Reply

Ha! Same here.

Reply

So I don’t want to brag, but my mom was on The Price Is Right. Haha I am the most boring person ever so I always tell people that story. Bob Barker told her she should be the first woman president. She was a flight attendant and made cards with all the prices for every item and had her passengers quiz her. She always says she just knew they would pick her.

Reply

That is the coolest thing ever!!! I want her autograph!

Reply

Just finished Food: A Love Story, by Jim Gaffigan. Now I am Reading My Dad is Fat. What can I say? I like to challenge my mind.

You and Megan are gorgeous. That is all.

Reply

I have a shirt with a million little holes that keeps me incredibly warm too! It doesn’t have words but it’s pink too :) I love running in it in the winter!

Reply

i always wondered if i was the only one who struggled with clothes that don’t stay put when I run!

Reply

I really like reading your blog. It’s a ton of fun! I just finished reading the Elizabeth Smart story it’s really good. Some parts are really hard to read though. Especially being a mom of 3 girls. I loved the price is right. I remember watching it with my grandma all the time and of course I’d play Pinko!!

Reply

oh man! my last dream was totally about chocolate chips…specifically my mother-in-laws! mmm too bad she is 3,000 miles away. i think i may also dream of that loaf of bread tonight too!

Reply

I am currently reading Eat & Run :) Amazing!

Reply

Start the dating blog! I know all your single-girl-readers (aka me) would love to read that :D

Reply

The Price is Right was the best part of staying home sick from school. Plinko would probably be my game of choice too!
Currently reading The Fault in our Stars. I have not seen the movie and I am about halfway through the book. A bit depressing but also very real.

Reply

Hi! We have had an extremely rough winter here in Massachusetts, but love following your Boston training, I only ran it once in 2008 but hope to run it again in my lifetime. I just was wondering if you have any pointers for reading while running?? It always seems to hard, I love to read and don’t get much time to and anything to help with the treadmill blues this winter. So miss running outside!

Reply

I’m reading “Sharp Objects” by the author of Gone Girl. I’m not sure yet if I’d recommend it, I have to see how it ends first.

Reply

I got the same email from Netflix, so I know how you feel. I have a 6yo and twin 4yo’s so I know what it’s like to lose your ability to choose your own TV shows to a toddler.

I like to watch Netflix on the treadmill, and sometimes I even watch the kids shows, because when we watch them together, I can never hear what is going on.

Reply

I’m 21 weeks prego and frosted mini wheats with frozen blueberries has been my #1 craving. Totally love them! And I’m pretty sure my baby does too :)

Reply

Oh my gosh, now I want Altoid sours!!

I don’t know how you run and read. I just can’t do it. I wish I could. I can’t even listen to a book while I run because I can’t remember what I “read”.

I’m reading Cold, Cold Heart by Tami Hoag. Good so far. And just got Yes, Please by Amy Poehler. Can’t wait to start that!

Reply

I want to read that book.. I keep hearing great things! I’m reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. So fantastic!! Great read during my cardio sessions but I’m thinking I need to start watching Parenthood on Netflix instead soon:)

Reply

Monday Matters ALWAYS = the bachelor!

Reply

How can you READ on the treadmill??! Seriously?! I’m bopping around too much to get my eyes to focus – let alone on the small print. I have a headache just thinking of it. It would be so awesome if I could though. In university, I would spend time on the elliptical just because I could read my study notes and exercise at the same time – 2 birds, 1 stone :)

Reply

I have been dreaming of candy and sweet treats the last few years. It’s nice because when I wake up I’m like “yay I ate it in the dream and tasted it but no calories!”

Reply

Plinko, baby!!

Reply

yes yes please start a dating blog.. I love a good story ;)!

Reply

I am reading “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed and definitely recommend it!

Reply

I’m still awe that you can read a book and run faster than me :) (or maybe I’m sad, I just can’t decide. LOL)

Reply

The Power of Habit. One of the best inspirational, informative books which isn’t boring AT ALL.

And plinko, definitely! Or the mountaineer yodeling man! OR the car where they have like $5 to go higher/lower guessing the numbers for each digit! Love that show!

Reply

I’m reading “Pretties” it’s the second book in the series.

I occasionally watched that show when I was younger, but not that often.

Reply

I really like Price is right but lately I’ve been really into Let’s Make A Deal. I really want to go to the show. Future Bucket List item :)

Reply

Whoo! Plinko all the way! I used to dream about being on the show just to play Plinko!
Speaking of dreams…I’ve been dreaming a lot about work. That makes me super cool, doesn’t it?

And, I totally need a candy stash in my car!

Reply

Hi Janae – I love reading your blog. I love the run happy shirt so much I want to order it! Can you please tell me how it is with the sizing…..it says it’s xs/s or m/l – I’m 5’5″ 125lb – just wanna order the right size

Reply

HEY RENEE!!!! I would definitely get the xs/s if I were you! That is what I wear and I am 5’8″ and heavier than you:) Have a great day and I hope you love it!

Reply

I have been reading Andie’s blog for years as well, and I am dying to read her book! Thanks for the reminder. :)

I woke up this morning and my first thought was “I have to fit my run in before my interview” but then promptly fell back asleep. I was rewarded by dreaming that I was driving in a car that wouldn’t break so every time I stepped on the break, I ended up accelerating and driving faster. >_<

Parenting the whole-hearted child, no river too wide, and the first three years of life. All great books!!

I’m sorry you’ve had some dating troubles… There is a perfect man out there for you and your little girl!!

Reply

I blog frequently and I really thank you for your content.
This article has really peaked my interest. I am going to
book mark your blog and keep checking for new information about once per week.
I subscribed to your Feed too.

Reply

That Buzzfeed list… too funny! I think I’m too old for some of them, but oh, my… some were SO my childhood. Just between you and me, I still really look forward to book fair at my daughter’s daycare!

Reply

Haha I had to do the exact same thing with my running shirt last weekend! I’m sure it was real attractive, but I just didn’t care!!

Reply

I wasn’t able to run in the 1/2 I registered for this week (Dang foot!!) but I was able to cheer on the hubs and our friends. This poor girl was literally holding up her capris with one hand while running, and she was fast, she got a 1:35, but those dang pants. I talked to her afterwards and she said that she had just bought them and hadn’t worn them for a run yet. Whoops.

Reply

I just bought the Brooks base layer! I have been admiring it every time you’ve posted about it and its on sale right now so, bonus! :-)

Reply

I’ve decided I need that shirt! I’m sure it’s long sold out but I’m someone who hates overheating while running (I can’t even wear gloves in the winter because warm hands = death) so this is perfect.

Reply

YES, please!! A dating blog by you two. I have been single forever and need to know how to meet people. The last relationship that lasted longer than a year was 15 years ago!! I’m 36 now. Eek :) I have some wonderful stories… Ha!

During summer breaks I would watch The Price is Right every day. My favorite game was guess the cost – Hi Lo. You had to pick the item that was the more expensive. Also the showcase showdown of course :)

It was fun to look back on this list – thanks for the memories!

I don’t usually remember my dreams, but last night I know I had a bad one bc I woke up early in the morning. Weird.

I was reading a lot of fiction, but now I am reading a book on being vulnerable bc I suck at it and that may be something that I want to improve if I actually want to have sustainable relationships. Before that was Girl On The Train which was just meh for me.

Reply

I have been obsessed with that shirt since the first time I saw you wear it… I found a grey one in the Brooks area at the SJRNR half in October and HAD to buy it. I kinda wish I could wear it everyday ;)

My granny always watched “The Wheel” (Wheel of Fortune, as she called it), and she loved Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? I sat through many an episode of each while visiting her, just hanging out in the recliners. Sometimes when Wheel of Fortune is on now I’ll just leave it on because it reminds me of being with her.

I just started “The Twelve Tribes of Hattie” by Ayana Mathis, after having the pleasure of meeting the author and hearing her read at an event in my community. The book had been on my list for a while, and when she read I was totally hooked. It is a lovely read and I’m so glad I bumped it to the top of my list (which includes, I kid you not, over 200 books! One day, when I stop running and renovating my house, I will read).

Reply

I just finished reading American Gods – it was pretty random, I’m still not sure how I feel about it.

I usually just remember snippets of dreams, though not any recently.

I did my long run on Monday this week because I wasn’t home most of the weekend.

Reply

it reallly a awesome post.thanks for sharing your experience with us it helps many people to survive and enjoy in college life.

Great book! As someone that has had some of the same struggles as Andie – I could definitely relate. I read the whole book in one day.

Reply

Andie’s book is amazing!!! I didn’t want it to end! PS. you don’t have that BF anymore?
