We drove 3.5 hours to run 18 miles with a race thrown in there.

Happy Saturday!

Josse and I decided last second to drive south to get our long run done in the sunshine.  The Dogtown 1/2 Marathon is going on this morning so we will warm-up a bit, run the race and then run a few more miles to get in 18 miles.

We always have a good time together.

We stopped at the running store to grab some fuel!

Along with my normal pre-race fuel!

And for dinner we had Texas Roadhouse take-out.  Take-out is the way to go the night before a race away from home.

Rewind to the beginning of Friday….

I took off the day from working out and I am hoping that helps me to have some real fresh legs today!

Brooke and I had a lunch date together up in Salt Lake City at Jason’s Deli.  Baked potato topped with everything that is right in the world.

Followed by their free ice cream cones.

I miss this little girl of mine.  She’ll be back on Monday and I cannot even wait.

I love when I can make a race my long run for the week (even when you have to add a few extra miles in). It’s a nice change of pace!

That potato looks delicious!

I’m working today. Boo. At least I’m done at noon. Then my day will include a nap, cleaning my house and some blog work! Have a great weekend!

Today I’m doing my taxes. Should be straight forward except blogging will make it complicated as I did not track my expenses. I have the receipts though. That will be done after hitting the gym for strength training. Then going out to dinner with a friend. Busy day! Enjoy your race!!!

Sounds like a fun long run plan. This morning was yoga for me since I’m not up to running in single digits again. Instead my husband and I are having a running date tomorrow when it’ll be 30 degrees warmer :)

LOL at Josse’s face in the one picture. Ahh, photobombs!

I love mixing up long runs with races – great way to work on speed!

I’m doing a 30 day no sugar challenge and whenever I read your posts, the delicious desserts kill me. I figured the best way to make it through this challenge was to simply stay off Pinterest, but maybe HRG too!

I take rest today. Tomorrow I will participate in a 10M trail race. I expect a lot of mud! :)

good luck in your race! i love that pretty much every photo in this post is of carbs.

Have you ever tried Accel Gel…Key Lime is a great one? Hammer Gels are awesome too. The sugar in Accel Gel is lower than the other gels, and it’s really easy on your stomach. I hope you rock your race :)! Go Janae go!

Sounds like a fun weekend! It’s always better to run in the sun! I’m at work all day today and then my friend is having a housewarming/birthday party, so that should be a ton of fun!

I’m finishing up my Wilderness First Responder Course today – we’re doing lots of scenarios with loads of patients. I’m expecting lots of ‘blood” and “guts.” Then, I’ll be certified!! It’s a super intense course -80 hours long, but it’s useful because I live on a remote island more than an hour from definitive medical care (we don’t even have a hospital).

Sounds fun!
Chris is out of town on a boys ski weekend, my mom is staying here and it has been WONDERFUL! Nothing like a mom’s help with a baby.

Have a great race! I just finished a little over 13 miles this morning – I started running outside but couldn’t feel my chin which meant I needed to switch the run to the treadmill lol. I guess 12 degrees is just too cold for me today!

Reply

good luck at your race Janae!! your baby girl will be home before you know it. :) enjoy your weekend xxo

Have a great race this morning. What a great way to get in the miles as part of a longer run. Do you plan on doing those miles at race pace? I would have a hard time not “racing” a half marathon. :)

Today my husband and I are cleaning up the yard, garage, and house. It looks like we may be selling and moving to a different neighborhood in the near future – so exciting!!!

I’m aiming at running 11 miles today as my final long run before the Phoenix Half Marathon next weekend.

I have a 20-miler today with some friends I don’t trust 100% to not push the pace. Wish me luck! ;) But the weather is beautiful and we are celebrating my daughter’s 5th birthday tonight, so it should be a good day.

Ran 8 miles for half marathon prep. House cleaning and lots of laundry and hopefully movie night with the family. Hoping to score a nap in there somewhere. Enjoy your race! Can’t wait to hear about it.

Warm weather sounds nice. What is the deal with ice and snow in the South? Come on guys. Bring on summer. My legs are too white.

We are currently waiting for the ice to thaw. That’s happening quickly, thankfully! Then running a errands to pick up a few things for my new car. I think our first stop will be to get donuts and coffee. It’s a must!

Hope you have an awesome race! Since I don’t have a long run on the sched. this weekend I slept in today and now I’m slowly waking up with a cup of coffee! :)

Enjoy the half and the long run! Such a great idea to incorporate a race in your long run. I’m doing a sculpture hike that I’m really excited and exploring an island by foot in Auckland about that will be my workout cos I know it will be lots of walking :)

Sounds like a fun race trip! The green apple Powerbar gel is one of my favorite flavors.

Cold still here in VA so I am resting after my run and will take it easy today. I am thinking about registering for a half in April…just have to survive my full first! Hope you had fun!

I hope your race went well!!! I would love to know how/if you fuel during a half. Also,do you treat it differently when its part of a longer run? PS i was already craving ice cream, but now now i want it soooooo bad!

What an awesome long run idea!!!

Reply

I love that idea! I hope one day I can run half marathons just for fun.

This morning I ran my longest run in a while. It ended up being a run/walk but I still feel very accomplished!

I hope you’re getting along well without Brooke. Can’t wait to see more cute pictures of her :)

What a fun girls’ race trip!!! Combining a long run plus a few more miles is a great training run idea. Definitely want to try that when training for my next marathon!

I ran a few treadmill miles, made lunch for the guys and now I’m working on some graphic design projects… and reading blogs of course :)

I ran Dogtown this morning too. Tough course but very beautiful. Love the medal! Hope you had a great race. The hills will be great training for Boston.

I absolutely love love love Texas Roadhouse. I’m so jealous you got to have it last night. The two by us are not as close as I would like.

I’m loving Brooke’s little purse on the table. Too cute!

And, I had a great time this morning running in the Gasparilla 5k. :)

That baked potato looks amazing! Have fun with your race!

I’m having a lazy afternoon with my guy and our pooch, catching up on the SNL special from last week.

An event is such a fun way to get a long run in and the cool down extra miles go by so fast! Plus, what a great distraction from your little buddy not being home this weekend.

It was sunny and warm (40F) so I went for a bike ride-even though it was gorgeous running weather. Can’t pass up a dry road and sunshine ride!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Free ice cream cones? Are you kidding me???

Hope you had a great race! Spending the weekend unpacking in our new house! That baked potato looks delish :)

I am nooooot so sure about green apple fuel. How does it taste? I’m all about the Salted Caramel Gu. :)

Races are such a fun addition to a training plan! I’ve scattered a few races into April while I train for the Brooklyn Half Marathon in May.

I ran in Central Park today and while it wasn’t too cold outside (for once), the wind made me lose all feeling in my face! Spring, I miss you :(

Running and racing with a friend + road trip = perfection!!
Enjoy and have a great race!!

I did my 20km run this morning and it was TOUGH! Just one of those days.

It’s about 35C here today (about 95F), and so we are staying indoors with the air conditioning on. It’s a great excuse for a nap this arvo!

Your daughter reminds me of my one grand daughter who lives in AZ. I miss her. Also your shared parenting reminds me of my other step grand daughter and I feel bad for your time of separation :(

I worked today so nothing too exciting to report. I did though get some boxes so I can start packing for my move to San Diego. I have to move down there in a month and I have yet to do anything!

I’m a little bummed you brought Josse down because after I read this blog post, I opened my email to see Josse stole my course record on one segment of dogtown. I guess I’ll have to work hard to try to get it back.

Tapering for Phoenix marathon. Woohoo! Which means last long run done yesterday and parade of homes, kids musical performances, a nice bike ride and a movie with the fam.

Whoa whoa whoa Where is Jason’s Deli- you had me at free ice cream. I have been here for 6 months and no one told me?!?!

Reply

Those ice cream cones look LEGIT!

Reply

Mmm, that ice cream looks so good!

I love that your long run consists of just throwing a half marathon in there. I always feel better about running that distance when I think about people doing full marathon training. If someone’s training run is longer than my entire race, then I can definitely do it.

Reply

I have always wanted to do the dogtown half marathon!
