Valentine’s Day… Running Dates!

Thank you for all of your sweet comments yesterday, you guys are the best!!!

I think the best kind of date (whether with friends or your main squeeze) is a running date.  Some of my absolute best conversations with my sister, friends and boys that I have been in a relationship with have occurred during a run.  I think running just brings the best out of people and it is such a bonding experience.  People seem to be more open with others when running and accomplishing something hard together just makes it all that much better.

If a boy asks me out on a run date that includes trail running and donuts after… He will probably win my heart:)

Brooks sent on over the Infiniti 7” short tight III and the Bring It Racerback to my Valentine’s running date this year:)  Josse is the absolute best to run with and she helps to keep me positive, motivated and laughing during all of our runs.  She makes training for races even more fun.

Josse is obsessed with both the shorts and the tank.  She says the length of the shorts are perfect and that the top is so comfortable that it feels like you aren’t even wearing anything:)

We accomplished our 16 miles.  We did a HILLY!!!!!! course.  We ran up ‘the beast’ within the first 30 minutes of our run.  The beast is about a mile long hill and it burns so good.  I forgot to wear my watch and Josse forgot to restart hers after a stop so we aren’t sure about our average pace.  It was probably around 8:00ish.

Overall, it was so nice to do an entire long run in the daylight, with friends and with the perfect weather.  My endurance has decided to come back to me and I felt great.  I just need to remember in the future that it always takes a few weeks (usually closer to 5 or 6) of training for a marathon before the long run feels good again for me.

I am hoping these hills will get me ready for Heartbreak Hill!

There happened to be lots of food yesterday because that is the only proper way to celebrate a birthday.

The sister and her new baby came over and delivered my happiness—>  aka candy.

There was my favorite salmon salad.

With a cupcake before dinner and some froyo after dinner.  This flavor is a winner.

The three of us have been going to dinner on my birthday together since 2014 and will continue to until at least 2054.

I’m so glad you had a great birthday. Today I have a first date! A boy at the gym asked me out yesterday. I know everyone at my gym and I have no idea who he is. It came out of no where. It all happened so fast, I didn’t get the chance to say no. Isn’t it cliche to have a first date on Valentine’s Day?

My husband and I had our first date on Valentine’s day 13 years ago. We’ve been married for eight years now. I guess it worked for us :-)

That’s awesome!

Hope your date goes well :-)

I am just relaxing with the husband. No specific plans but I’m not huge on Valentine’s day anyway, so that’s fine by me. Run dates are the best. He and I try to run together at least once a week so that is usually my favorite run of the week. Have a Happy Valwntines Day!

So happy you had a great birthday!! Last night for dinner I had a veggie sandwich with sweet potato fries dipped in ranch and cheese sauce.. SO good.

I have a basketball game three hours away so I’m spending the day with the team. We all made valentines for each other! I don’t get to do my long run today but I’m okay with that since it’s -25 with the windchill!

I miss running! I loved my long runs with friends. Hopefully in another week I can get back to it healthy this time. :)
Tonight I am having dinner at the boyfriends. I am making dessert. Apple crisp. I think he is making filet mignon. I’ll bring wine too. Easy breezy.

Nice job on the 16 miler :)

Hey! Happy Valentines!
We’re gonna be learning how to make herbal tea, buying a few plants, and eating at a super sweet vegan restaurant down the street called Gingers. It’s an uhmazing place!
Cheerioh!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
My husband and I are making homemade pizza and having some wine—nothing too fancy, which is perfect.
Brooks running clothes are my favorite! Those shorts look so cute and comfy!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Janae. Can I borrow Brooke’s pink jean jacket? Lol

I’m running to the gym then doing s good upper body workout. I love that top- and will have to buy one!

Had a great 10 mile run date with a friend this morning and it’s becoming the only way to tolerate the single digit runs lately! Really does help pass the time and feels like a very productive coffee date. Happy Valentines Day :)

I’m glad to hear you had a great birthday.

Tim and I’s first date was a running date so I cannot complain about that. It was super awkward but obviously we got along pretty well LOL. Happy Valentine’s Day Janae.

I had oatmeal for dinner last night- hahaha. Nothing fancy for sure, but I had been wanting it all week. My appetite has been a little off since starting to take typhoid pills last weekend. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Way to tackle hills girlfriend! They are so intimidating to me but so great for that heart rate! You will conquer Heartbreak Hill :)

I have convinced my husband to go on a “run date” all of 3 times during our 7+ years we’ve known each other. And each time we do not talk afterwards because he is not happy we ran. HAH!! I’ve gone on plenty of run dates with my girlfriends, though, and they are easily my favorite runs. Conversations or not, it’s great to have some companionship along the way :)

Dinner last night was turkey sausage with avocado… we eat this at least twice a week.

Happy v-day and belated bday! :) You have some pretty awesome friends who are willing to go on long runs with you! I wish my friends would train for a marathon! haha

My guy has been in Finland all week for work but he comes home today! I can’t wait to go get him from the airport! I also can’t wait to go to packet pickup for the half I’m running tomorrow! Today will be a good day!!

Reply

Sounds like a great run! Heartbreak Hill is nothing after training in Utah- you’ll kill it!

I haven’t had a running date for far too long. It’s so fun to run with other people. We got a puppy yesterday, so I won’t run too far today- maybe around 12. I can’t wait until he’s big enough to run with me!

Reply

Yes yes yes!!!!!!

Running makes me open my heart and open my mouth! Haha I am not a crazy talkative person but when I run with someone you literally can’t shut me up. I swear it makes me run faster!!

And yes running in the daylight alone is enough to make my heart sing.

I hope you had the most wonderful birthday!

Happy Belated Birthday!

Friday night’s dinner was from Memphis’ best pizza place, Memphis Pizza Cafe. It was the perfect, albeit not the healthiest, end to a long week.

Have a great Valentine’s Day! Ours will be low-key — dinner and a movie with the family.

Reply

Looks like you had an awesome day. Your sis really delivered the mother load of candy! What a sweetheart:)

I have been fighting a cold all week along so just hoping to get through a 10 km run then weights. This afternoon my hubby and I are going for massages then dinner at home with my two fav guys (husband and son). Perfect!

Reply

My boyfriend isn’t a runner… but he has attempted running with me. It was so much fun! I would love to go on more running dates with him. I’m usually a lone runner.

Reply

That’s awesome your run felt good. I had sushi last night with the husband, and I’m not sure what we’re up to today. Have a wonderful day!! :)

Birthdays are the best for enjoying all our favorite foods. Glad you had a nice bday! I once had a bad running date! It was a first date actually, I didn’t like him but at least I got some miles in! I actually forgot about that date until now lol.

Reply

No specific Valentines’ Day plans. I don’t really have a valentine. :) But we did get to do a Valentine’s Dinner at our church for 15 couples last night with a fun 4 course meal. :) Today is recovery from that.

I wish I were running today :( I ruptured a tendon on my foot during a run two weeks ago. I’m taking my girl to her basketball game and bringing lunch to my sis. We’ll probably finish off the day with getting our nails done and watching a movie. Hubs took the boys out of town for a Pokémon tournament.

Happy Belated Birthday! I am having a “galentines” event tonight with friends…a boy I was dating decided to become MIA the last week so I am thinking thats over. I did do a 19 mile run this morning though- longest ever! Please tell me I will be able to run 26.2?! Lol

Have a great day!

Just finished a 20 miler!
Friday dinner: pasta!!
Valentine’s plans: date night:)

Currently waiting for the temperature to tick up a few more degrees before I head out for my 11 miler (the high in Boston today is 27 – help!).

I would love to go on a run date – how do I meet a man who runs?!

Tonight’s plans involve hanging out with my gal pals. Nothing like girl time to wait out ANOTHER blizzard. I sure hope we’re unthawed for you by April 20th!

Reply

The beginning of your post cracked me up because one of the worst dates I went on was a trail run! He was a weird guy though haha. I do give him credit for a great date activity though!

Reply

I did a 7 mile run today with 6x hill repeats! The weather was awesome, so it felt great.

Reply

Tonight is heart-shaped pizza night! WOOHOO!! That is my plans. I don’t like going out on V-Day because it is stupid busy!

I gave out pink shoelaces to my track team today – they were a bit excited about them ;-)

Reply

Heartbreak Hill is nothing compared to the hills you run in Utah…..you’ll kick it’s butt :-)

Reply

I just finished a 5k, the Mardi Gras 5k…it was by far the hardest run I’ve done in a long time. Almost all uphill and cold with a strong wind. I’m glad that’s over!

Reply

Long run this morning, half of which was run with my valentine!

We celebrated last night with dinner and a play. His grandma’s birthday is today so we are going to visit her and cook her dinner tonight.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Reply

Always eat your dessert first :) haha
sounds like a greatttt run. I ran today too.! Yay for my injury being almost over.

Reply

That salad looks AMAZING! And, happy belated birthday!!! :)

Reply

You will definitely be ready for heartbreak hill! Personally I thought the smaller hills after were more challenging because I didn’t expect them… all that time practicing for Heartbreak Hill and there was still so much running left to go! Good memories though :)

Happy Valentine’s to you and Brooke! My husband and I went on our Valentine’s date last night and I had a chicken caesar wrap WITH BACON! And ice cream to follow. No long run today! I ran long earlier in the week so I could chill with the fam today.

Reply

Love running dates! But the best ones are with my girlfriends to talk and laugh. Coffee after is always amazing, too.

Today my Valentine and I did a ride in the freezing cold. We used our ice bikes so had spiked tires for the snowy parts. My daughter made monster cookies so coming home to fresh baked cookies was definitely a highlight!

Dinner last night-baked potato with veggies piled on it plus buttuh.

I worked this morning and now I’m waiting for my boyfriend to get home from work. Our Valentine’s Day plans include going to the gym, ordering sushi, and playing games at home! I often run with my boyfriend, which I love, although he’s much faster than me. :)

Reply

I went to Trader Joe’s. I went to the gym. I then showered and had lunch. Probably later I will go shopping for some new gym-clothes. The best part of being single is getting to do whatever you want to do on Valentine’s Day!!

I love all of your photos of Brooke! She is sooo adorable

Reply

I really need to get my hands on those chocolate-covered cinnamon bears. I can’t believe I’ve never tried them!

My plans today are simple – 5 mile run (done!), relaxing at home, and then meeting up with my gal pals for a night out!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Reply

I got in a little less than 7 REALLY cold miles with my running group this morning. I feel like I’m still trying to get warm!

The boyfriend is out of town, so my valentine’s plans so far include eating an obscene number of skittles and watching bad tv. :)

Friday night dinner was a giant salad with chicken, followed by ice cream, naturally.

CUTE running outfits and epic run!!

I’m spending today snuggling with my puppy and getting my bike up and ready for my first race in April! I hope you have a great day!

My boyfriend and I are going to a hockey game tonight. We’re both big hockey fans and we’re playing one of your biggest rivals, so I know it’ll be a fun night.

Janae, do you ever do any website maintenance? A few of the links on your “Gear” page go to a 404 page or the site no longer exists. Just thought you’d like to know (but maybe you do but don’t mind/care?!) I just thought if this is your ‘job’, you’d put some updates onto the site pages. (not being snarky, just stating).

Reply

Jenni! Thank you so much for your comment. I redid the links on my gear page about 2 months ago but amazon links do change pretty frequently. I will get those fixed asap! Thank you and have a great weekend!

Reply

Hi! Thanks. I reread the comment after and think it sounded/came off wrong. It wasn’t my intention – I have a habit of just saying what’s on my mind without thinking on the way it’s said. Blech. Thanks again.

My 10 miler race was canceled due to snow, crazy temps and high winds. I think I will be doing treadmill miles, ick.

We had leftover roast on Friday with sweet potatoes (also my fave) and roasted cauliflower. I had 2 drinks because it is incredibly rare that I don’t run on a Saturday.

Reply

I managed 16 miles outside today…and it was -18 degrees Celsius!
Winter is not playing nice up here in Nova Scotia, Canada…

Reply

Way to go Lynn! You are hardcore. I hope you warmed up after your run:)

Reply

Chocolate lava cakes +salted caramel ice cream– it was a good Valentine’s Day!

Reply

Today I am planning on hitting the treadmill. I just signed up for my first half of the year, so I guess I need to get back to more running. In the winter I tend to switch to more HIIT and strength based workouts, but I’m going to start getting those runs back in there! Hope you had a good weekend!

Reply

Look at all that candy! Yum! I’m glad you had a good day!

Reply

I started training for my first marathon right around the time that I met my (now) husband. He had run his first marathon the year before and he offered to train and run with me. So that is how we dated for the next six months! We’d run on the week nights after work and early Saturday mornings for our long runs. We always said if we could get through a marathon together, we could get through anything. And now here we are 10 years and two kids later. We still enjoy running dates but it’s a little harder now since our seven year old doesn’t fit in the jogging stroller anymore. ;)

Are you still with your boy? : )

Looks like a fabulous day!
