Sissy Had Her Baby and Boston Training Week #5!

My sister had her baby!!!!!!!!!!!  Momma and baby are healthy and happy.  My nieces and nephew are also already so in love with him.

Like usual, I have a few very important things to tell you about from our day yesterday.

1.  Brooke had her first PEZ experience.  I used to collect these as a child (you probably aren’t surprised by that fun fact) and so it was time for Brooke to get her first one.   Next up—>  she of course needs some Pogs and Slammers.

IMG 4891

2.  It was such a beautiful day outside which called for some exploring.

IMG 4927

We hung out at Utah Lake for a bit.

IMG 4898

3.  We always make sure to pencil in a nice long nap on Sundays.

IMG 4913

4.  Our Super Bowl soup party…  plus loads more chips and salsa.

IMG 4922

5.  The only part of the game that I actually watched.  Katy Perry.  The best.

IMG 4924

6.  I love homemade oreos because even though you are technically eating two cookies at a time, it actually only counts as one.

Boston Training Week #5 (I have a feeling the race is going to be here before I know it!!!)

Monday:  9 miles @ 8:12 pace followed by Post-Run Power Exercises!

Tuesday:  11 miles with 10 x 800.  2 mile warm-up, 1.75 mile cool-down.  800s—>  3:05, 3:05, 3:05, 3:05, 3:05, 3:04, 3:03, 3:04, 3:03, 3:02. Each recovery was .25 miles @ 10:00 pace. I am still amazed that this workout even happened because I was so not in it.

Wednesday:  9 miles @ 8:28 pace.  Nice and relaxed, lots of zoning out.

Thursday:  7 miles @ 7:45 pace.  Progressive run—> started with an 8:34 mile and ended with a 7:00 mile.

Friday:  OFF

Saturday:  15 miles.  7:56 average pace.  My only outside run of the week!  5 miles up-tempo in the middle—> 7:09, 7:07, 7:03, 7:02, 6:54.  This long run felt better than any of my previous ones but my legs were still pretty fatigued by the end.  Time for more squats:)

Sunday:  OFF  (two rest days per week work really well for me)

51 miles total.  My happy spot.

Reply

My best run was Sunday, a 13.1 mile training run and Oh my Goodness, that baby is so cute.

Big congratulations to your sister and the entire family!

Reply

Congratulations! He is adorable!

PEZ and Pogs were the best. I probably still have a massive collection of Pogs at my parents house somewhere.

My long run was easily my best run of the week. Just got in the zone and it felt good!

Reply

Congrats to your sister and family! How exciting!

Best run for me last week was probably just this little 2-miler I did on Saturday. For some reason everything was just clicking for me and I wish I had done my long run that day! I probably would have just gone for it but I needed to get ready for a bday dinner and was crunched for time!

Reply

Congrats to your sis! And good thinking with the homemade Oreos. I used to make a peanut butter cookie version of those and they were insanely delicious. Enjoy some family time with the new baby :)

Reply

Congratulations to your sister!! I had my boy on the 28th – it’s amazing and exhausting (especially with other kiddos around) but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! And I could totally use 1 or 12 of those oreos! Do you ship to VA?? ;)

Reply

Those homemade Oreos look so good!
My best run last week was an 8 mile tempo run with 4 miles at goal half marathon pace (7:38/mile). It felt so good and tempo runs always help me see my progress.

Reply

Omg!! I had a pog maker! Sooo fun! Warheads are a candy that totally remind me of my childhood!

Reply

Congrats to your sister. That’s so exciting!

It sounds like your week of running went well too. I didn’t have any stand out runs last week. I was hoping to race a 5k but it didn’t work out sadly.

Reply

Congrats to your sissie!! New babies are always exciting!

Best run last week was probably a combo of a 5 miler and fast 5k with a friend on Tuesday. It was 70 degrees out!!

Reply

I watched the ads on youtube. This is the extent of my sportsing.

Reply

Congrats to your family!

My best run was probably my recovery run yesterday- those 5 miles felt great! I still can’t decide if it is better to rest the day after a long run or do a recovery. I feel pretty good today albeit a little sore.

Reply

Congrats to your Sissy! He’s precious. ☺️

Congratulations to your sister! They use those same exact hats and blankets in WI.
Have fun becoming his favorite Aunt.

Reply

Congrats to your sister and you on the new baby! Wasn’t Katy Perry great? We could see the fireworks going off from my house during the performance. I live 3 blocks from the stadium. So many people yesterday!

Reply

LOVE Pez!! And, sadly (or maybe not so sadly), I won a Pog tournament at my elementary school in fifth grade.

Congrats to your sister, and good luck on the rest of your training. You’re right–April will be here before we know it!

Reply

Congrats to your sister Janae!! :) your training is looking great my friend! YES, April will be here before we know it. have a happy Monday xxo

My birthday is on the 17th.

Congratulations to your sister!!

My runs all felt strong last week, especially my long run–18 miles with 4X1 miles downhill hard and fast. (Of course, I had to run back uphill each time. I ended up with over 1,400 feet of climbing.) My coach is prepping my quads for the downhills at Boston. I had a 51 mile week, too. I agree that that is a great weekly mileage!

Reply

Congrats on the new nephew! He’s perfect:) Such a blessing to your family.

I always think of the Sit N’Spin when I think of my childhood. Maybe that’s why I’m really good at not getting dizzy? ;)
My best run was my 7 mile run (because it was my only one-whoops)

Reply

Aw, congrats to your sister and fam on the baby! I totally collected Pez but never loved the candy…They make some really nice rhinestone and glittery pez dispensers these days, Hello Kitty ones – so cute!

Reply

Congrats to your sister!! Those oreo cookies look amazing!

Reply

Congrats to your sister!!

My son also collects Pez dispensers! We have so many. And his birthday is February 12th – right before Valentine’s Day!

Reply

Haha Pez and Pogs! So funny! Giga pets and butterfly clips take me back to the good ol’ 90’s days!

Congrats on a beautiful new nephew! I don’t have a February birthday but today is my dad’s birthday!

Reply

February 5th birthday here! And for my birthday present…. snow :(

Reply

I PR’d during my 1/2 marathon on Saturday!! Part of the race was through a riverbed, which killed my foot (literally) so I will be calling my podiatrist first thing this morning – but it was still kind of worth the awesome time!

Reply

Polly pockets and tomagochis (spelling???)!!!!!

CONGRATS TO YOUR SISTER!!!

Reply

Congratulations to your sissy!! <3

Reply

Congratulations to your sister and her family! She looks gorgeous!

Loved POGS in grade school :)

My best run last week was a 5 miler treadmill run that turned into 6 with sprints afterward! Sprints/speedwork is new for me; hoping to get faster!

Reply

Congratulations to your sister.!! Awe she looks so beautiful. !
Great week for you.! :)

And no February birthday here, but my little girls birthday is in February. Which as a parent you know become more important than yours. So I’m excited for that this month. And hopefully start running again after this injury :/

Reply

Those oreos look delicious! I am new to your site and love it! :)

Reply

The next time we hang out…I may just make you make me those delicious Oreo cookies. :) Hugs ;)

Yippee a new nephew! Congrats to you ALL!

Reply

Awwww, bless!

Reply

Congratulations to your sister. He is beautiful and she looks incredibly happy! Glad to hear that mama and baby are doing well.

Toys that remind me of my childhood → Definitely pogs!!! My Little Ponys and anything Lisa Frank.

I sprained my ankle last week during a run, but that run was actually the best of the week. It was a ladder incorporating 10K speed. It went by so fast!

Reply

I had a blah week of running most of last week, but then a kill long run on Saturday! 18.5 miles avg 7:41 pace … I am loving this whole group training thing – never would’ve done that on my own! Now I know why you love running with others so much :)

Reply

Congrats to your sister! I’m glad everyone is healthy.

Pogs were definitely a part of my childhood. I remember at the height of their popularity the school yard having just about everyone playing with them.

Reply

I’m going to try your Thursday progressive run today and see if I survive. And maybe your legs are fatigued after the long one because of the power exercises? Maybe doing squats would be too much? I dunno. Thanks for sharing your training deets. I love reading about it all. You’re going to love Boston.

Reply

So was the little guy born on February 1st? During the SuperBowl or before OR did he come earlier? Curious minds want to know…..hahaha!

February 11th is MY big day….#46 this year but not feeling a day older than 36. ;-)

Reply

He actually came a few days ago:) AHHHHH HAPPY ALMOST BDAY!!! Running keeps you young!

Reply

What a cute baby!! Congrats to your sister and family!!

Now and laters and Hi-ho-cherrio! Lol

My best run was my 20 miler on Saturday with some speedy friends. I kept a pace I probably wouldn’t have done on my own, so I was pretty pleased!

My moms bday is this month.

Reply

51 miles is a solid week – I am really jealous, I managed to run about 10% of that this week. I can’t believe your sister had her baby already, that came up fast!!

Reply

I live right across from the Pez factory! If you ever come to the east coast it’s a cute (quick) little day activity to take a tour of it. Weirdest thing is I can actually smell what flavor they are making that day when I’m out walking my dog, not even kidding!! Sugary goodness in the air :)

Reply

That is SOOO cool!! I want to come take a tour. I would love to smell the candy every day haha! Have a great day!

Reply

Congrats to your sister! How exciting! :)

I loved PEZ and pogs! My brother and I would always eat PEZ when we’d go on family vacations. We would sometimes swallow them whole and pretend we were taking pills to be funny. Haha I guess we thought we were SO cool! ;) My other favorite candy from my childhood are Razzles, Garfield fruit snacks, crispy M&Ms, Dunkaroos, Gushers, and pretty much every other type of candyyyy. :D

Reply

Pez are still SO GOOD. And I’m pretty sure that’s not just my inner child talking. They really are tasty. I also rediscovered the sour gummy worms recently and have been going through them like it’s my job. Not bad to eat on a long run though :)

My tempo run last week was really good. 7 miles at 7:48 pace (which is very good for me) and it felt awesome. My worst was by far my long run. 13 miles in 30mph winds, and -8 degree weather…and lots of snow and ice on the ground. It was a rough one but it felt AMAZING to be done with it.

Also those homemade Oreos: SWOON. Oreos are hands down my favorite cookie.

Have a wonderful week! Bostonians are trapped inside again today with a blizzard blaring outside. Another 14 inches expected. Yikes!

Reply

ANNIE! You rocked your tempo run! WAY TO GO!!! Oh… you are way tough to run 13 miles in those conditions. Stay warm!!!

Reply

Congratulations on your new addition, YAY!!!!!:):) so exciting for your family!!
Skittles and anything cinnamon really remind me of my childhood!!

Reply

Congratulations to your sis and her little boy! How exciting! :) I have no idea what pez or pogs are, but I was really in to tic tacs when I was little :) now I prefer chewy candy it obviously wouldn’t say no to a tic tac :)

My best run last week was an easy eight miler around Vancouver, it was sunny and relaxing and prefect! Love those runs!

Reply

Congratulations to your sister!!! Such great news :) That certainly calls for a celebration…homemade cookies included.

Happy Monday!

Reply

Yay for new babies! There is just nothing like it. So happy for your sister and her family. She looks way too good for just having pushed a small human out.

I love homemade oreos, but I have never seen the logic of the 2 cookies for one until now. Genius. I just might be sandwiching all cookies from here on out.

Best run was Saturdays. Running with friends makes time fly. Makes me wonder how I ever did it by myself all.the.time. for so long.

Slap bracelets, neon friendship bracelets the broken heart best friend necklaces, and the little clips you used to tie your t-shirt in a knot at your hit all remind me of my childhood. So do body suits (I see them now still and all I can think of is adult onesies) stirrup leggings and scrunchies.

Reply

Congrats to your sister!
I definitely loved pogs…but pez were not a favorite. How about dunkaroos???

Reply

Beautiful little baby boy!!! You’re lucky you get to snuggle that little bundle — there’s just nothing better! Congrats!

I’m so glad you had a great running week :) Mine was okay — best run was my 8 miler on Saturday!

Reply

Congratulations to your sissy! I love babies :)

Reply

What a beautiful baby (and mom)! I can’t wait to hit 50+ again. I know, no excuses, but the weather here is just SO NASTY! Wasn’t Katy Perry amazing? I have new respect for her.

Reply

Congrats to your sissy! He is adorable!!!
I did like the half time performance! They were all good but loved Kravitz wish he had a bigger part and Missy Elliot reminded me I’m old when I stood up and started dancing lol very fun dancing with my kids.
My best run was getting outside only a 4 miler.

Reply

Congratulations to your sister! He is gorgeous!

February 19th Birthday over here :-)

Reply

Congrats to your sister and her husband!!! He’s adorable!!

I also collected PEZ, I just found all of mine the other day! My dad would always travel and every time he came home he had a new PEZ for me! It used to be the highlight of my week! We’re birthday twins:) I’m getting super impatient and am so excited that in 12 days I’ll be 18!!

Reply

Congratulations on your nephew!

I must have had a sad childhood. What are Pogs and Slammers?

So happy for your family!! A baby is such a blessing! I wish I had a Superbowl soup party. That’s an awesome idea!

Reply

Congrats to your sissy!! Homemade Oreos ARE the best. And you know how to make them even better? Filling the cookies with ice cream instead of filling! Cookies ‘n’ cream, vanilla, coffee…mmm1

Reply

congrats to your sis and your whole fam! she looks gorgeous! i was rooting for Katy Perry to win last night, too, and she totally killed it. LOVE HER.

Reply

Pez and Pogs all the way! Tamagotchis too. Can I get Brooke’s pink pullover in my size please?! :) adorable!

Reply

Congrats to your sister! My best run this week was my 7 mile long run on Saturday. The weather was dreary but perfect. Super bowl was amazing, especially the very end. Love love love Katy Perry. But thought the commercials this year were kind of depressing… Also I got new running shoes this weekend – my first pair of Brooks! Thought of you ;)

Reply

I totally collected PEZ as a child as well! My mom saved them all and gave a few of them to my daughter Peyton over Christmas break. She’s now officially addicted!

I’m a February baby! This is always my favorite month–Valentine’s Day AND my birthday. WIN!

Reply

Congrats to your sister! And to you as the proud Auntie! I actually went for a run yesterday, which is not my normal sweat session. It was a good one though. Happy Monday!!!

Congratulations to your family!!

Childhood candy for me? candy buttons on white paper!

Reply

Congrats on the new little one! How exciting. My long run was terrible this week! Definitely need to utilize strength training a bit more. Can’t believe my race is in four weeks! yikes!

Reply

YAY to healthy babies and babies’ momma! So glad to hear it went well :)

And dunkaroos, gushers, lite bright, and hungry, hungry hippos are a few things!

Reply

Your sister had a baby and still looks that gorgeous?? Congrats to her and her family, he is adorable!

Reply

Um. Your sister looks amazing after having a baby, kinda like she just woke up from a nap and didn’t mess up her face at all. Glad everyone is happy and healthy!

Pogs. ALL THE WAY. I didn’t like the way Pez candy tasted, but I still loved collecting all the Pez dispensers. Weird.

Reply

Congrats to your sister!

The toy that reminds me the most of my childhood is definitely Betty Spaghetti. But I’m pretty sure Betty Spaghetti is no longer around, and the only time I’m reminded of her luscious pasta locks is when someone nostalgically brings her up.

Reply

yay congratulations to your sister! i can only hope to look like that if and when i ever give birth!

i write that naps in PEN for the weekends :)

Reply

Trolls, Cherry Merry Muffin Dolls (they smelled like muffins or cupcakes!), pogs, lite brite, my little pony, barbies, and rainbow brite were all things I loved.

I had an 8 miler while the husband biked on the trail with me! May not get to run today………..it was snowing and the wind is brutal right now!

I have a February birthday………..the 27th! (I will be 30…………….ah!)

Reply

Congratulations to your sister!! And Pez is amazing! What character does Brooke have there? I’m pretty sure I still have all my Pez dispensers and Pogs at my mom’s house haha!

Reply

Congrats to your entire family!

Reply

I totally forgot about Pogs. I think I still have some back at my mom’s.

Congrats to your sister!!

Reply

CONGRATS to your sister! Babies are the best.

I totally used to collect PEZ too! I got rid of them when I graduated and left home. Sad. I collected Pogs too. When are those going to make a comeback?!

My son’s first birthday is on the 9th and my husband’s is on the 15th! Lots of celebrating coming up!

Reply

Awwww congrats to your sissy!!!! What a beautiful photo of mama and baby!! :)

xo

Reply

Congrats to your sister!

Mojos always remind me of my childhood. They used to cost one cent each at the gas station, so we would load up.

I had some pogs but nothing too crazy. They actually were banned from my elementary school because kids were getting too out of hand with them!

Reply

Congratulations to your sister and your family!!! She looks awesome for just having a baby!

I’m not a huge fan of PEZ but those homemade OREOS… yes. I think I actually have all of the ingredients to make them in my house right now. Maybe that should be our afternoon project :)

Reply

Congrats to your sister!!! What a beautiful baby boy!

My daughter was born on the 21st and I still buy her Pez! (She’s 25)

Reply

Congratulations to your sister! :)

Reply

Congratulations to your beautiful sister :) I cannot wait to watch this little boy win our hearts as much as the rest of these little people have.

Also…Utah Lake. Wow.

Reply

Yay for your sis having her baby! Hope everyone is happy, healthy, and getting some Zzzz’s!

Mmm….those homemade oreos look good. I’d probably want to put ice cream in the middle…..or frosting…. or both.

I ran a half marathon yesterday and felt good cardio-wise…..just didn’t finish strong due to some bad foot pain in the last two miles. Hoping it’s nothing, but going to the doc’s just to be sure. I would have probably been on pace for a 1:52 half (pretty good for me considering my so-so training), but I want to make sure that I’m okay before I do the LA Marathon next month…..

Reply

Great job on your half but BOOOOO to the foot pain! I hope it starts feeling much better so that you can go rock LA!

Reply

congrats to your sister!! So weird to not have brooke as the youngest in the family anymore!

Reply

Congrats, Auntie!!!
I made your s’mores bars this weekend for a party. THEY WERE A HUGE HIT!
Thanks for the recipe!

Reply

Yay congratulations to your sister and family! How exciting to meet him :)

My husband’s birthday is next week, so I’m in surprise planning mode. I love celebrating a birthday!

Reply

Congratulations, auntie! Your sister and baby look great! I FINALLY had my baby too! That last week really drug on! She was born on January 21st. We named her Piper Grace, she was 9 lbs. 6 oz. and 21 1/2 inches long. She absolutely stole our hearts! :)

Reply

Pez, for sure. I also used to get those little candies that were wax shaped like a tiny soda bottle with some kind of flavored liquid inside.

My best run last week was my long run because it was the first run in weeks that was pain free! :)

Reply

Congratulations to your sister and your family!!!

Reply

Toys or candy that really remind you of your childhood? Anyone else into PEZ and Pogs?
*** Um, those cupcakes with the white lattice icing on top, Cracklin’ Oat Bran cereal (seriously, I grew up with my grandparents), “just add water” mashed potatoes. Sometimes I’ll open some kind of junk food with my hubs and the first thing we both say is, “this tastes like my childhood”.

Best run for you last week? Details please!
*** Yesterday, does that count? 4 miles on the treadmill, at paces 8:20, 8:00, 7:58 and then the last one at 7:18 which I’m only able to maintain for a couple of minutes at at a time, so I walk 45 seconds-1 minute in between. But I felt awesome and I’m proud to be getting faster!

WHO has a February birthday?
*** ME! ME! I’ll be 35 on the 22nd. Please, everyone, tell me how young I look. ;) The good news about 35 is that in some cases I’m in a new age bracket. Maybe I’ll even win something!

Your training does seem to me to be FLYING by. I’m so glad you take the time to share your workouts. It’s interesting to me and motivational, too!

Reply

I have a February birthday-the 1st. Is that the same day as your new nephew? He’s gorgeous! Congratulations to your sister and family!

Congrats to your sister! The baby is precious! I only got one run this past week. My plantar fasciitis has been really kicking my butt. I still am not fine but I needed to hit the pavement. I was getting ansy.
