Our Random Disneyland Day…

Workout: 13,000 steps at Disneyland.  We had a pedometer.  13,000 steps definitely felt like the perfect workout the day after a long run.

We just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend a day at Disney when we were already within 20 miles of the place to pick up the Brookers from her dad.

We got to the park right when it opened at 8 a.m.  It was empty.  I am guessing it was empty because it was pretty ‘cold’ in the morning but these Utah girls were loving it.  It started getting busy after about 2 hours of us riding whatever we wanted without having to wait in very many lines.

Brooke’s Four Favorite Rides in VERY Particular Order:

1.  It’s A Small World

2.  The Carousel

3.  Dumbo

4.  Buzz Lightyear

IMG 3428

The Man was with us and we had quite a good method of eating—>  Get a bunch of different things and share them all so that we got to try everything.

As far as chocolate goes….

Peanut Butter Chocolate Sandwich.  Amazing.

IMG 3448

And my usual chocolate and caramel dipped marshmallow.

IMG 3466

We are also huge fans of the parade.

IMG 3455

A soup bread bowl was perfect for when the sun went down.

IMG 3483

And I finally tried the Mickey Mouse Beignets for the first time.  Melt in your mouth.

IMG 3482

We left as soon as Brooke fell asleep in the stroller.  I am proud of our 13 hours of partying.

We are driving part of the way home today!  We are becoming quite the road trip experts.

If you have been to both—>  Do you like DisneyLAND or DisneyWORLD better?

What is your Sunday going to be filled with?

I like Disney world but probably because it’s where I made so many childhood memories:)
Sunday plans: gym, church, training expo for the country music marathon.
Clam chowder: nay…I’m a vegetarian:)
My iPhone 6 has a pedometer built in. Sometimes I’ll check it just to see my activity for the day.

I’ve never been to Disneyland and Disney world was so long ago. I love that chocolate dipped marshmallow :)

I’ve never used a pedometer but my daughter has for school and they get little prizes when they walk a certain number of steps. The kids get really into it!

Reply

Disney world is totally better but you need to make it a 2-3 day thing. Disneyland you can do in a day.

Not much going on today. Just Max and I again, with a snowstorm going on – so grocery store and that is it.

Clam chowder = yes!

I’ve never been to Disneyland and it’s been a long time since I was at Disneyworld. After seeing the beignet, I really want to go!

I use a pedometer. Since I am at a desk job all day it keeps me more accountable to get up and move more often.

Not a fan of clam chowder, but my husband loves it.

Today is a mid distance run and relaxing the rest of the day!

Reply

I’ve only ever been to Disneyland, but I hear Disneyworld is bigger and better!
Sunday-church and then hopefully a lot of vegging out.
I loooove clam chowder if it is homemade and the clams aren’t too huge.
I don’t use a pedometer, but I should!

Reply

I’ve been to both but Disneyland was like 30 years ago so I can accurately compare :) My 17 year old wants to go to Universal in Florida for Harry Potter so that is on our radar :)

No clam chowder cuz I’m vegan.

I got a FitBit for Christmas and am OBSESSED! So much so that I got them for my two daughters so we can have challenges :)

Reply

You lovely ladies look like you had a blast! So glad you are reunited!
Disney World is in my back yard! As much as I want to move, I can’t imagine not being able to go to Disney whenever I want.

Reply

I wear my Fitbit pedometer everyday and love it. It’s a good reminder to get up and move especially when I’m at the office & tend to sit for too long.
So much Disneyland fun, I’m jealous! Hope you guys enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Reply

I have never been to Disney Land but we were just at Disney World and it’s such a good time! I hope to one day get to California! Glad you had a great time.

Reply

I’ll be in Disneyland in a couple weeks for the Star Wars Half Marathon! Our countdown is on and my daughter is super excited.

Did the Disney World marathon last year. Both parks are great fun for the family, but Anaheim is a little more intimate and walk-able.

Reply

Been to both Disneyland and Disneyworld, but it’s been a long time since I went to Disneyland. As I remember it, it’s much smaller than Disneyworld, which I think I would enjoy because Disneyworld is a little overwhelming! Sunday filled with studying for PhD exams. -_-

I recently got a GarminVivofit which is basically their brand of the Fitbit, and I love it. I am a student so I spend a lot of time sitting and studying, plus I don’t have a very consistent schedule, so I like seeing my steps for the day and being able to compare over time. Also it allows you to pair a HR band, so I have used it for indoor gym days just to monitor exertion.

Reply

Awesome!!
I have been using the garmin vivofit and try to hit 10,000 steps a day.
It’s easy on the days when I am not working but my office is a sedentary environment. I’ll need to walk a bit on my lunch break to help.
I like Disney world better only because there are so many additional theme parks to go to as well.
I’m spending the day with my boyfriend and then dropping him at the airport. He has a business trip. I’m gonna miss him.

Reply

How fun to get to go do that last minute! I have only been to Disney World, and actually live less than 2 hours from it, but I haven’t been in many many years. Not really my thing, but I’m sure I’ll hit it up hard once I have littles :)

My Sunday will be filled with grocery shopping, relaxation, and yoga.

Yes to clam chowder! Not many soups I can turn down.

Enjoy your Sunday!!

What a fun day!!! So happy she is back! My little guy comes home today after ten looooong days with his dad and I can’t wait!!

I have been to both but was under 8 and don’t know which I prefer. I need to RunDisney someday

Reply

I resized the health app on iPhones automatically counts your steps. Awesome, but annoying how few steps I really take (though I don’t take my phone running so there would be a lot more if I did)

I’m jealous of your fun Disney day! I need to convince my family to go there soon, okay, actually just my husband, the kids and I are already on board!

Reply

What a fun day! I’ve only been to Disney World but loved it. I can’t wait to take my little one in a few years!

Reply

Glad that you had a wonderful, spontaneous trip to the happiest place on earth. I have yet to go to DW but it’s on my bucket list.

My Sunday is likely going to be the last little down time I will have before the term starts back up and I jump back into work. I’ve been prepping classes all weekend – the break sure does fly by.

Love me some clam chowder – the Oregon coast has some of the best!

Reply

I love pedometers! I got a fitbit for Christmas and love it- definitely a good reminder to stay moving even after all our running!

Glad you had fun at Disneyland…I need to go there someday!

Reply

I like pedometers. My husband used to get really into them and do some crazy numbers. But I’ve personally never used one too much

All the choclatey stuff looks so good.!! Clam chowder yayyy

Reply

So when do we get to meet “The Man”??? Also have you thought about running the disney full or half marathons? Those are on my race bucket list!!

Reply

YAY for clam chowder!

And bread soup bowl? What a genius idea… :O

Reply

Disneyworld I’ve been to many times to admit …..going snowshoeing today hopefully it warms up bc right now -36 …..and meal planning ……
Drive safely

The Land! I’ve only been once, but I like it much more than WDW. I like how small it is! So glad you and Brooke were able to go again. :)

I’m from Boston, so clam chowder is always a yes.

Today will be filled with laundry, mani/pedi, visit with my parents and packing for Disney! I leave Wednesday for the marathon weekend. I’m doing the 10k and half. Can’t wait!

Santa brought me a fitbit for Christmas, so it’s been fun trying to get my steps in for the day.

Reply

Clam chowder – Big YAY!

Never been to Disneyworld but Disneyland is in my backyard so I grew up there.

My phone (iPhone 6) has a built in pedometer so I get some sort of idea how far I’m walking in a day. I really need to step it up.

Reply

What a great impromptu trip with Brooke. I haven’t been since maybe 2006 for New Years Eve, so I am dying to head back. Hopefully this year.

Reply

Disney World!! By like 1,000,000x. But Disneyland is still a great time.

Reply

Looks like you had so much fun on your random disney trip :). How Funnn! We took my two year old to Disney World last month and she was in heaven!!!!! I used my pedometer and it’s amazing how so many steps feels like nothing when your at an amusement park.

I’m partial to Disney World but that’s because I’m a Floridian :)

Today is a day to food prep and Hopefuly take down all the Christmas decorations!!

Reply

Ok how does your hair look so nice?? I swear my hair has never been the same since having my daughter (2 years ago), plus, I really need some work done on my sweeping bangs haha. We did Disney (in Orlando) before Christmas and it was so much fun. It’s kind of awesome how similar the two parks are because we did a lot of the same rides and my girl loved them too :) They could be BFFs!

Reply

I’d like all of those treats and your red nail color. Perfect, thanks! ;)

Have a wonderful day!

Reply

13,000 steps definitely counts as a workout for the day! What a fun trip! I carry my phone in my pocket throughout the day as my pedometer. I’m an elementary teacher so those kids keep me moving!

Reply

California girl, so definitely Disney LAND! I’ve been to Disney World once, but I just love the original and remembering when we had E-tickets :) And it IS cold here for us!

Sunday = 5.5 mile run/walk (3 weeks since Honolulu Marathon, so no long runs or speed work right now.) Going to church next.

Reply

So fun!!! I prefer Disneyland, but I’m a west coast girl. I’ve been to both, and just prefer “Land.” Was it fun to see it all decked out for the holidays? That’s still on my list to do!

Today is a day to store all of the decorations and finish my lesson plans for school! Have a safe trip back home!

Reply

Disneyland is smaller with sort of the same rides so I feel like I can cover more ground there than Disneyworld. But Disneyworld has so many other parks around it, which is pretty cool. Also, Disneyworld in July sucks. It was way too hot and humid.

Today is church, naps, and maybe a run.

Our friend had on a Fitbit when we did Magic Mountain this week, and it said we walked about 9.5 miles!

Reply

I got a fitbit for my birthday a few weeks ago and I’ve really been enjoying it. It’s interesting to see how many (or how little) steps I’m taking :)

Reply

I live clam chowder, especially in a bread bowl!

I’ve been to Disneyland many times (California native here), but Disneyworld only once (like 20 years ago). I love Disneyland. I think it’s the perfect size. That being said, I also want to someday go back to Disneyworld and see all the new parks (animal kingdom wasn’t built yet).

Just got done with a fun 10 mile group run and now I need to defrost and take a hot shower! Safe travels!

Reply

I’ve only ever been to Disneyland. We took a family trip there when I was a kid and I remember having a blast!

Reply

I love both clam chowders… We are going to cape cod next month, I can’t wait to enjoy authentic clam chowder!

I did a 9 mile run this AM and now it’s a day of waitressing for this girl:( can’t wait to get home alread:(

Reply

I have only been to DisneyWorld (our last trip was the week before Thanksgiving), but I’m not sure how I missed those marshmallows!

Today’s schedule: long run (done- 10 miles in 79:29!), laundry, make banana chocolate chip muffins with my daughter, Dallas Cowboys playoff game, and Downton Abbey!

I use the Nike Fuel Band to try my steps. It was great to see how much we walked everyday in Disney.

Clam chowder-yes, I grew up in Maine!

Reply

Hi there! Sounds like fun! I’ve been to all of the Disney parks, and the Magic Kingdom in Orlando is my favorite — it’s huge. I do love the parades, especially during Christmas time. And the dinner shows? Those are pretty fun too! Happy Sunday!

Reply

I can’t wait to be able to take my son to Disney some day. I don’t know how you guys manage a full day there at this age. Brooke must be an angel.

Are we ever going to ‘meet’ the Man? How long were you seeing him before you introduced him to Brooke?

Reply

My Garmin Forerunner 15 has a build in activity tracker, which is a pedometer. I really love to see how many step I take at work it’s lots of fun. I haven’t been to either Disneyland or Disneyworld but I would love to go one day!

Reply

Awesome snowstorm last night followed by solid freezing rain since before I woke up this morning sooooo, long run on the TM and some great core work. Back to work tomorrow after almost 2 weeks off…ahhhhhh!!

Loved your trip to Disney…have only been to Disney World – as an eastern Canadian, it’s a shorter trip! :)

Reply

I’ve only been to Disneyland, so it’s obviously better ;)

I just finished a 50 day run streak, so my Sunday is going to be filled with laziness, tv and snacks!

Clam chowder – yay! Salmon chowder is really good too!

I have a fitbit flex that I wear all the time. I like seeing my steps and I also like that it tracks sleep.

Reply

Ahhh I’m obsessed with Disneyland!!! Never been to DWorld, but DLand is the original, so you know. :) And YES to clam chowder. Extra points if it’s in a bread bowl!

I’ve only been to Disney World but love it every time I go. My Sunday so far has consisted of church, leftover pizza, Netflix, and now some cleaning. Hope you have a safe trip back!

I miss living in San Diego – I had a Disney annual pass when I lived down there! I miss me some Mickey!

Reply

Looks like you had such a great time! My favorite treat at disney is their caramel apple! I am allergic to apples but it doesn’t stop me from getting one…every time I am there. I live about 45 minutes from disneyworld and may make special trips just for them, or bribe students to get me them when they go there.

Reply

We totally have to hear about this “man” soon!!

Reply

We were there on Friday too! I am from SoCal and was freezing all day! Where did you find Mickey Beignets? New Orleans Square?

Glad you decided to go. It is beautiful during the holidays.

I have never been to the West Coast, so I have to vote Disney World! Can’t wait to revisit it with my little ones, hopefully next year! I love clam chowder…but it has to be New England, not the tomato-based version. My mom says it is the best in Boston, so one day I have to go there to test that theory! I used to use a pedometer, but now as long as I am getting in enough exercise, I don’t stress about my daily steps :) Enjoy your day!

I love Brooke’s hairstyle. I wish I could do it :)

West coast girl here so Disneyland all the way. Hoping to take my daughter next summer when she turns 2. My husband is die hard Disney world but that’s not a day’s car drive away. One day.

Long run broken up into 2. 6 down and 10 with a friend after lunch.

I put together a vegetable soup last night. I need a good clam chowder recipe to add to the repertoire.

Season 5 of Dowtown starts tonight!

Safe travels home. Hope to meet your man soon.

I never been to Disneyland (only World) but would love to go someday! Sounds like such a fun little trip :)

You finally tried the pb/chocolate/graham sandwich. Phew. We can finally be friends again.

Reply

I haven’t been to Disneyland but I would like to visit it. I do use a Fitbit on days I don’t run so I remember to move more. Sunday was a shirt run, some work and relaxing. I should start undecorating from Christmas but I can’t bring myself to just yet.

Reply

Clam chowder definitely yay, but only in Boston!

Reply

I still have yet to go to Disneyland! Disneyworld is pretty cool but I hope to go to Disneyland with our son when he’s older. You all sure had a busy day there! That’s a ton of steps :)

Clam chowder is my favorite soup, especially in Boston or Oregon! Our Sunday has been full of church, waffles and cuddles indoors. It’s -25F and I don’t think I ever want to go outside again…

Reply

Love yours and Brooke’s (and okay, the mysterious guy, too ;) spontaneous adventures.

I used to live in Orlando, so Disney World!

And a chocolate, peanut butter, and graham cracker sandwich sounds like my kind of sandwich.

Reply

It looks like you had so much fun, and your little one is precious! Our boys are 5 and 8 and I love the stage each one is in, but I do miss a lot about those toddler years.

I’ve never been to Disneyland but have been to the other one twice. We managed to do that before we had kids and it was lots of fun. I can’t wait to see what it’s like WITH kids! Soon, I hope.

Reply

I have NEVER been to Disneyland OR World. OR 6 Flags…

love these photos, I have only been to Disney World once and it was MANY years ago. I really want to take my Mr. 7 there.

Picture #3 is beautiful.

Janae!! You should check out the Clam Chowdah Challenge. It’s a race series that I ran a couple years ago, in Cape Cod. I’m a Wisconsin girl, but we went out there to run these races (1/2 on Saturday, full on Sunday) and ate a ton of Chowdah. The prize for doing both races is a Chowdah mug! :) it sounds right up your alley.

Reply

Oh, and I’ve never been to Disneyland, but my husband and I spent a part of our honeymoon at Disneyworld. Disney knows how to make everything special, even as an adult. It really was a magical time! :)

Reply

We just returned from a week at Disney World! I wore my fit bit the whole time and hit 20,000 steps one day! My least amount of steps while we were there was 13,000, all the parks are so big! We had a wonderful time, although it was very very busy.

I like the fit bit, I especially like the sleep function.

I have been to Disneyland once (when I was 10), and Disney world three times in the last 12 years. I would have to vote for Disney world, only because I remember it much better. I ran a half marathon two years ago there, Jane it’s a great bucket list race!

Reply

What a fun day! I love my fit bit for the sleep function. I can’t wait to take my two girls to Disney someday. Save, Save, Save!

Reply

I double dog dare you to go into the mouth of the whale next time you go to Disneyland! Glad you had a great time :)

Disneyland! We are So Cal people and bought the annual pass (never thought I would do it, but with 3 kiddos it makes $$ sense)!
So fun!!

Pool running + hanging out is my day today

Never tried a pedometer :)

So glad you had a great day!!

PS: Clam Chowder – San Francisco style!

Reply

My Sunday consisted of a date at a new to me reaturant with a really nice guy!

As for which I like better, it’s been years since I went to Disneyland and only a year since Disneyworld, so I don’t know if it’s fair for me to compare. I do like the large variety of hotels on the Disney property at Disneyworld though because staying on the property makes it so much easier!

Reply

We went to Disneyworld (that’s the one in Florida right?) once in 2003 and I hated it. Personally I thought it was the biggest waste of money ever. We couldn’t get on any rides, a bottle of water was $5 and you don’t see any of the main characters like the commercials make it seem. So we missed Mickey/Minnie/Goofy, etc. Sorry, I’ll get off my soapbox now LOL!

Sunday we went to worship, which is our regular Sunday routine. Then we just hung out at home since hubby wasn’t feeling so great. I managed to get to Planet Fitness and run my 3 miles.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Clam Chowder! :)

I do faithfully wear a pedometer. I have the Garmin Vivofit and I love it.

PS-I just found your blog and I love it. quite possibly one of my favorite blogs ever!

Reply

I’m nearly obsessed with Disney. I like Disney World better, but I do really really like California Adventure (Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, Radiator Springs = all win). My highest step day ever was at Disney. 57,000 steps: We did the Princess Half Marathon last year and went to Animal Kingdom afterwards. And I still didn’t nearly burn off the calories of the day.

And clam chowder = YES. When we went to Boston for the marathon this year, we went to a place called Neptune Oyster (http://www.yelp.com/biz/neptune-oyster-boston) and they had the BEST lobster rolls and chowder… the chowder was very thin, but awesome flavor. I think I literally ate my weight in chowder when we were in Boston.

Reply

Looks like a great time!

I had a Fitbit which was kind of the same thing, but I stopped using it after awhile bc it wasn’t really for me. Finding out how many steps I had walked was cool, but I didn’t really do anything with all the other features. Glad you had an enjoyable weekend!

Reply

What a fun day! I use a Jawbone UP band and I love it!

Reply

We have gone to Disney World right after Thanksgiving for the past 4 years. I use a fitbit to track my steps and we are there from the time the parks open to close and we get anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 steps in one given day there! :) It’s quite a workout!

Reply

Disneyland will always be my favorite! I’ve been there a million times and have never tried the caramel chocolate dipped marshmallow, so I now have something new to try when I’m there in May for the Tinker Bell Half! Looks like you had an amazing time, so jealous!

Reply

Awww these pics make me so happy! I went to disneyworld in tenth grade for the one and only time… it was so cool! We went over halloween so the crowds weren’t tooooo bad, but I can’t even imagine it completely empty like you guys had it!

Reply

Been to Disney World at least 25-30 times. It’s my home away from home and I can’t help but get totally immersed in, OK I’ll say it…the magic! Got a chance to visit Disneyland before the new park was built and I have to say I was unimpressed. OK, I admit it…I hated it! We went one day and never went back. It was the main reason we were going to California and DL was not the highlight of our trip. I’m planning on returning to the West Coast in 2016 following an Alaska cruise and plan on giving Disneyland another shot but mainly because of California Adventure. So here’s hoping I’ll leave there feeling differently this time.
