New Year’s Eve the Arizona Way

Running tip of the day—>  When it starts to rain while you are out running, just stop at a store and ask for a plastic bag to store your electronics to prevent any water damage.   It started to rain pretty hard while I was out so I put my garmin (it is waterproof but I just get nervous about electronics & water;) and phone in the baggy and I was good to go.  7 miles @ 8:50 pace while listening to Serial (the podcast).

Lunch with Megan in the background taking a picture of her food.

This salad taught me that dates in a salad= delicious.

IMG 3240

Stopped at a candy store afterwards to stock up on some gummy octopus (my latest favorite).

IMG 3245

Did you know that these exist?!?!

IMG 3244

Shopped around for a few hours and I felt like tilting my head for the picture.

IMG 3248

And then we got some Sprinkle cupcakes on the way home.  Always a good idea.

IMG 3251

New Year’s Eve craziness together.

IMG 3252

Followed by picking up the man at the airport and going over to my brother’s house for the rest of the night.

IMG 3264

I tried this gum for the first time and oh my goodness…  I am loving it.  It really does taste like you are chewing on the red starbursts all day long.

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today my Mom & I are shopping at Dillard’s (a dept store in Phoenix). They always have this crazy NY day sale. It’s insane and I love to people watch and watch my Mon buy a bunch of stuff. Happy New Years!

I have lots of fun races this year!
Best part of 2014: getting settled into our new home:)
I’m at the gym right now and then meeting friends for breakfast.

It sounds like you are having a great time there. It actually makes me really excited to read your posts about Phoenix, knowing that I’m going in a couple of months. I had a lot of great moments in 2014 but I believe 2015 will bring more.

Just another night/day for us, complete with early morning running for me :) I feel good at least starting the year off feeling “normal” :) Looks like a fun time!

Reply

That Garmin would be fine in the rain. How are you liking the 620? Happy New Year!

Reply

Thank you Shannon! So far I LOVE IT!! I will do a full review after a few more weeks of using it. I just get nervous about trusting the waterproof…. water is what ended my last garmin;) Hope you are having an incredible day!

Reply

Yep the garmin is waterproof to 50m depth
So you don’t have to protect it, trust me

Reply

Thank you emma! I will trust you know:) I read that it was but I just get so nervous about electronics in water! Thanks and have a great day!

I work today. Nothing too fun for New Years Day. I think we are going to see Unbroken after that.

I’m looking forward to training for a new PR this year!

Best part of 2014 was taking my husband to two of my favorite places – NYC and Oregon – he’d never been and he loved them both!

Happy New Year!

So excited about Friends on Netflix! Life is good!

Today I am doing some baking then driving to my brothers in Orlando for a football party.

Reply

I work at a running store and sell Garmin’s- wanted to let you know that your watch is water proof, you can swim with that thing (you just can’t go scuba diving with it due to depth). This also goes for the 15, 220, and (obviously) the 920.

Reply

Thank you so so much! I read that but I still am nervous about it because water is what ended the life of my 405. I am going to have courage now and run in the rain with it. Thank you and I want to come to your running store!

Reply

Sounds like a great new years eve! Happy New Year Janae!

Reply

I’ve been counting down the Friends release! So stoked! I’m going to have to show that gum to my boyfriend. That’ll be a game changer for him.

I work today and then I’m going to run. And then I’m going to sleep sooo early because I stayed up until midnight and now I am so tired. Haha, that’s when I know I’ve hit adulthood.

Reply

Ohhh that gum is making me think of the last year’s Sour Patch Kids gum! I will try the Starburst just for fun but I love Extra Watermelon and can’t imagine I would switch….Headed back into the city today for my cousin’s first birthday party. Happy New Year!

Reply

Oh snap – I really wish I didn’t know that about the Friends series! I’m obsessed with all things 90’s and haven’t seen that show since it was originally on TV!

Reply

I’m actually celebrating the New Year this evening with my boyfriend! I totally lounged on the couch all night and fell asleep by 10 pm! I must be old!
The best part of 2014 was moving to Chicago with my boyfriend. In 2015, I’m looking forward to running my second half marathon.

Reply

I completely forgot about Friends! Ahhhh I am so excited!

Reply

Watching football all day today at a beach house with friends! Relaxation:)

2014 Hat Trick: Got my dream job (P.E. teacher), got my sub-4:00 marathon, and Harry put a ring on it!

2015 Goals: I have a semi-long list on my iPhone’s notepad. Running wise, I want to PR 10K and HM, and I go back to triathlon this year, including my first HIM distance race.

Today: A frigid 5K, making black-eyed peas, and hanging out.:)

Reply

After a year off and a baby, I get to run again! That is the best way to start 2015!

Reply

I don’t have any specific fun plans for 2015 – but my biggest goal is to continually become a better person. Becoming s better writer and a better runner would be bonus, but mostly I want to be a less prideful and more humble person.

Reply

AH Friends on Netflix…this is TOO much!!

Reply

I’m going to sign up for my first ever full Marathon this year! It’s happening.

I loved all of my races in 2014 – It was my first year racing in NY, so it was all new!

Today I’m meeting up with my running group for a New Years run (at noon, because it’s new years) and other than that, I’ll be relaxing :)

Reply

Happy New Year! It looks like you guys had a fun day yesterday. I have the 620 and haven’t had any issues with wearing it in the rain.
2014 was a great year with lots of PRs and goals accomplished. Hopefully 2015 will be even better!

Reply

That candy store looks pretty cool!

Other than working out this morning I’m not doing much other than enjoying a day off work.

Reply

Oh man, Serial makes me run so much faster!

If you like the Starburst Cherry gum, you should try the Sour Patch Kid cherry gum too. Game changer.

Goal for 2015: binge watch Friends on Netflix on the reg while wearing sweatpants.

Reply

Happy new year!!! I hope 2015 is a great year for you and Brooke. :)

Reply

Genius idea about the plastic bag. The Serial podcast got me through many a November and December long run, too!

Reply

Happy New Year! I also get nervous with my electronics but yesterday I ran in the rain with both of them. My SpiBelt is waterwaterproof so I out my phone there and my Garmin was tucked in nicely under articles of clothing.

Reply

2014 has been such a good year, and I’m sad to see it go! Happy New Year to you!

Reply

Maybe I need to get Netflix.. haha! How are you liking Serial?! I’m on episode 3 and I’m hooked!!

Happy New Year Janae!!

Reply

I had some gummy octopuses last night too, they are my favorite!

Friends STILL hasn’t shown up on my Netflix, and I’m trying my hardest not to panic, but I’m just SO impatient!

The best part of my 2014 was probably saying I do! My husband is a firefighter and had to work on NYE, so today we are going to a cookout with some friends to celebrate the New Year together!

Are you totally loving Serial?!

Reply

Happy New Years! Looks like you had a wonderful NYE. I second your excitement for Friends. Netflix. Finally!!!

2015 is going to be filled with lots of new challenges and excitement, including a lot of traveling and training for my first Ironman.

Best part of 2014 was settling into my awesome job, doing my first triathlon, and BQing.

Today I am heading to the pool with my hubby this morning and watching a lot of football this afternoon. Looking forward to some downtime after the holidays.

Reply

No big plans today, just a mid-day run since I slept in so late after staying up past midnight.
2015 is going to be a year of big changes: first post-grad school job, moving to a new city with my husband, hopefully getting a second dog, and a bunch of running PRs!

Reply

I really need to listen to Serial podcasts? Seems like everyone else but me does. And I’m looking forward to a lot of things in 2015 — mostly moving into a bigger apartment. Woohoo! Have a good one:)

Reply

That salad + gummy octopus + that cereal has officially made me hungry. Lots of great life decision here. :)

Reply

Best part of 2014 was qualifying for Boston! I can’t wait to run in April…
As for today I’m having a lazy day! Napping with Elle ordering in and maybe throwing in a run at some point:) happy new year!

Reply

I just made eggnog oatmeal and keep asking myself why I have never thought to make this before. I’m really just trying to find ways to use up the eggnog I bought since I love it so but it makes me feel so sick to drink right out of the carton. So far I have also used it in pancakes which I don’t recommend over the oatmeal.

Hope you had a good New Year’s!

Reply

Food + running + painting nails + watching Friends for forever is the plan!

Happy New Year, Janae!

Reply

We are having a baby!!! (In March), but I keep telling everyone this is Baby Year, it feels more real now than it did a couple weeks ago. Today I am just relaxing and enjoying the day off of work : ) That is a good idea with the Garmin, I always get nervous with electronics and water too.

Reply

Sprinkles is my favorite cupcake place of all time!! I WISH they had them in Utah!

I know that it’s waterproof but I’ve lost SO many electronics to water!!! One time? I even accidentally washed my iPod. Gahhhhh. So I feel you. Bag it up sister!

Happy New Year!

Not sure what 2015 will hold just yet. Hubby is going on a business trip to San Diego and Im hoping to tag along as Ive really never travelled anywhere!

Best moment of 2014, hands down, was finding out we’re expecting. Such a blessing!

Reply

I love Friends so much we have SO many lines memorized. It is one of the smartest shows ever. So funny.

I’m loving that Garmin. I love the sleek look with the pop of orange. Orange is a great color.

It’s the new black you know. ;)

Yes! Dates are amazing chopped up in salad, people think I’m crazy when I do that. It’s Dec 2nd today in New Zealand, had the best New Years out the back of a farm, sitting around a fire with awesome people. I think this year’s going to be the best so far (I’ve just gotta feeling). Enjoy your day.

I ran 15 miles to celebrate the first day of 2015. It’s about 20 degrees here this morning but the sun is shining and it was gorgeous. I couldn’t think of a better way to start the year. Now, I get to spend the rest of the day packing to move in a few weeks. :)

I just plan to lounge around in my jammies all day, work on my blog and read other fitness and beauty blogs. I’m also catching up on Gossip Girl episodes on Netflix. I’ll probably make a run and pick up some snacks too. That cupcake sure looked delicioso!

Ski trip in a few weeks. And lots of marathon training.
2014 highlight was falling in love.

dates on a salad?! GENIUS! I want to try that!!

Hubs was off work unexpectedly today, so we went out for junk food and let the little play for a while inside. It’s very cold here today. I have been reading “Quantum Wellness” by Kathy Freston (for like the 6th time), and cleaning junk out of our living space to prepare for 2015. I also blogged and cooked and watched “Mean Girls”.

In 2015 I hope to travel a ton. Taking a break from FB has been awesome so I’m going to continue that.

Best part of my 2014 was moving into a new place and hubs getting a promotion. We’ve been working and waiting for a long time and now we are in a great place. :)

I’m so excited that Friends is on Netflix!!! My husband and I chilled pretty much all day and we went over to my Aunt’s house for dinner this evening. Happy New Year :)

Hey, a cool little tip: I use that Press ‘N Seal wrap for my iPhone when I run. It completely waterproofs it, and if one of my bazillion kids texts me I can easily text them back through the wrap. Boom.

Reply

Yay for Friends! I used to watch that show with my mom growing up, and yes, I would be more than willing to call off of work for an entire month to veg out on the couch! :) Happy New Year! PS- I love dates in salad too, you should try eating them with with PB= Deliciousness!

Happy new year!

Salad looks amazing, will copy it this week haha.

I was just invited to the most scary job interview ever, scared and exited at the same time….
Good start of 2015!

Wishing you a great 2015! I’m going to run my first full marathon this year (I’m determined to get there injury free!) so I’m excited for what the year has to offer.

Reply

I am planning a girls trip with my BFF’s in February and a family vacation to Seattle and Alaska. The best part of my 2014 is the hubs deciding to take up running with me (so freaking cool) and I got a job at my dream school – like I never thought it would happen and sometimes it still surprises me that I get to work there!

Reply

I tried the Starburst gum too, but didn’t like it.

I plan to start a new training program in 2015!

Reply

My boyfriend and I listened to Serial in the car while driving back home to Dan jose from Irvine. It is so interesting and made the drive fly by!

Reply

I love the plastic bag bit.. I have a Garmin and I’ve worn it in the rain..nothing happened. I can understand being concerned though!
Right now the biggest plan I have for 2015 is to run my FIRST Half Marathon! I’m scared to death, and excited all at the same time!! I just started running a little over a year ago!
