And then there were none.

Brooke woke up from her nap yesterday with a fever so I took her in to InstaCare.  She caught what my mom has and is not doing so hot.  It breaks my heart.

She sure is a trooper though.

So, I thought I would share with you what being sick means at the Jacobs’ residence.

IMG 4675 2

It means three things for this picture below:

1.  I never changed out of my running clothes.

2.  The only time I left the house again (after seeing the doctor) was to hang out on the balcony for a few minutes.

3.  Dear friends drop off one of my favorite treats.

IMG 4666 2

It means Brooke gets to choose whatever movie she wants to buy off of iTunes and watch it as many times as she wants.  Little Mermaid for the win.

IMG 4658

It means that Megan (in my phone she is Lil’ Bow Wow because I enjoy changing people’s names to random names) entertains me with pictures from her finds at the grocery store.  (The previous picture was of a 5 lb bag of Good & Plenties because she loves them).

I am really hoping that she gets me that gummy bear for Valentines Day.

IMG 4684

It means I eat whatever takes less than 30 seconds to prepare.  Leftover shredded chicken that I mixed with an avocado and ate with crostinis.

IMG 4681 2

It means as I was checking emails that I accidentally ate the rest of my mom’s dark chocolate covered cherries that she left in my purse.  I’m truly sorry mom, I will get you a new container of them asap.

IMG 4660 2

It means that I get in a lot of reading with a sleeping baby on my chest.

IMG 4677 2

It means that as I was finishing typing this I started feeling a little nausea myself and some fun body aches:)

And then there were none.

Aka I am pretty sure the flu has taken over my family.

(PS Agatha Christie is one of my favorite authors..  anyone else love her books?).

Good night (well, actually good morning… I write my posts at night and schedule them to go up in the morning).

One last thing, my oreo milkshake recipe:

1 package of Oreos

1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream

1.5 cups milk

Makes 3 servings (2 servings if you are in marathon training).

How will you be getting your sweat on today?  I’ll live through you today:)

I hope Brooke feels better soon! My son is sick too – it seems to be going around!

I’m heading to the gym today for a little cardio!

I don’t think there’s a chocolate candy that I don’t like!

I hope everyone starts to feel better soon! Seems like the flu is going around! Fun fact, I’ve never had the flu. The worst I’ve ever had is a bad cold and that only happens once every few years.

My run will be after work today! 6 miles, likely on the treadmill!

All chocolate candy is good! I like the white chocolate covered oreos though. Do they have them in the store any time other than Christmas? I haven’t had them in forever!

Hope she’s better soon! A sick child is the absolute worst :(

Sorry to hear Brooke isn’t feeling the greatest. I can’t imagine how having a child not feeling well is. I hope she is able to feel better soon.

I’m actually not as much of a milkshake fan as I am just ice cream. I think the red velvet Oreos would be perfect in there.

I hope Brooke has a speedy recovery!
I rode the spin bike, lifted, and did TRX!
Reese’s are my fave chocolate covered Candy!

I have a run scheduled for tonight. I’m not sure the distance yet though as I pushed myself at Marathon Club last night.

I hope you all feel better soon!!

I Love Chocolate covered anything hahaha!

Oh no! I hope y’all feel better soon!!

Today I’ll be going to the gym during lunch for some cardio and then doing some weight lifting after work.

The best chocolate covered candy is…I can’t pick one!! Either chocolate covered pretzels, raisins, or espresso beans. :D

I hope you all feel better soon! The flu is the worst. I got it for the first time last year and I’m afraid of getting it again this year.
I love chocolate covered pretzels and almonds. yum!

Reply

Feel better! The best chocolate covered candy is chocolate covered almonds. So addicting! Or pretzels. Those are good too.

Reply

I sure hope you aren’t getting sick! Body aches and chest congestion are the worst!

Hopefully today during my son’s after school activity I can squeeze in a run in this cold weather.

Chocolate (almost) everything is delicious. I’d be skeptical about a chocolate covered gelatinous orange thing though. Blech. My favorite is plain dark chocolate (hello TJ’s pound plus bar, with almonds too!), plain milk chocolate, or a peanut buttery chocolate concoction.

Nurse Kelly (me) says you need tea and cookies asap. That is one of the best cold/flu remedies going. I promise.

Aw :( Hope the sweet girl feels better soon!
(Agatha Christie has always been a favorite of mine!)

I’ve been loving Harlan Coben lately – great mystery books…and of course reading all of Gillian Flynn’s books after finising Gone Girl.

I’ll hopefully be doing a 3 x 2 mile @ goal marathon pace workout today…the rain/ice might be an issue though, but should be an easy one to do on the ‘mill if necessary.

Anything chocolate covered is fine by me haha – but I’ll go with pretzels.

Reply

Hope everyone in your family gets to feeling better soon!

My favorite author if I’m in the mood for something funny is Sophie Kinsella. I’m pretty sure I’ve read or listened to every one of her books 5 times. If I am looking for a mystery, Harlan Coben is my favorite.

The best chocolate covered candy is either espresso beans or raisins. Wait… neither of those are candy… do they still count? I’m counting them…

Oh, and I feel ya! My family of three was sick from Dec 20th until Jan 18th… in that time we had 3 cases of the flu (one each), two cases of strep throat (both mine), & lots of sinus stuff. Even now, Harlow has a lingering cold and is sneezing stuff out her nose that looks like it was in Ghostbusters… This winter can’t end fast enough for me this year.

I hope you both feel better soon!

Hope everyone feels better soon! The flu is going around in a serious way this year. My favorite chocolate covered item would be almonds. Boring but true.

Poor Brooke! I hope the flu doesn’t stay to long and you both feel better soon.

Janet Evanovich is one of my favorite authors. Her Stephanie Plum books are so funny and have just the right amount of mystery and romance.

I had chocolate covered pretzels last night, so they win my vote today. I won a package of Red Velvet Oreos and they should be on my doorstep tonight. I can’t wait to try them!!

Aw, feel better over there!

8 miles on the treadmill for me this morning. I watched a documentary on Netflix called “The Summit” because when I watch people hiking up the second tallest mountain in the world, I can surely keep running on a treadmill.

Dark chocolate covered almonds have my heart.

Reply

Oh no – I hope she feels better soon and that you don’t catch it…Favorite chocolate covered is definitely the giant chocolate covered raisins from Costco! The best.

Reply

One of my all time favorite authors is Mary Higgins Clark. I’m currently reading through the entire series of Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher” books and they are pretty great.

Today is a non-sweat, other than maybe a quick shake out run, since I am running a race this weekend.

The best chocolate covered candy is Whoppers or Junior Mints (does that count? the chocolate is covering something :)

Reply

And I hope everyone gets healthy really soon!!!! Being sick is no good :( Mady had something fairly similar last week, but we had her tested for the flu and strep, both were negative. She had a crazy fever and the throw ups for 5 days :( But I was able to contain it to JUST HER!

Reply

I hope it is a short-lived sickness!! Good luck and best healing wishes.

I’m loving Turn of the Screw by Henry James. It’s the first book I’ve read of his and it’s a ghost type story. Very fun to read.

Reply

Poor Brooke and Poor Momma! I hope you guys feel better soon! I had a short lived stomach bug at the end of last week that lead the way for a cold over the weekend. I feel ya on the sick thing:-(
I really love reading Robert B Parker. I even named my Boston Terrier Spenser.
I just looked at my schedule and I’ve got 2 empty appointment spots at the end of my day so I may lift AND do HIIT. First workout of the week other than shoveling snow.
Eons ago when I worked at an ice cream shop (Friendly’s for the East Coast peeps!) we used to dip whole peanut butter cups in the hot fudge. That is the absolute best, hands down, chocolate covered anything.

Reply

So sorry you’re feeling crummy! The flu is going around like crazy and I’m just so glad I haven’t caught it…(yet)!

I’m meeting a good friend for a run on my lunch break today. It’s supposed to be 65 and sunny, and it’s just so CRAZY for January, even in Texas!

Awe. Hope she starts feeling better soon.!!!! And hope you don’t get sick also.

Those toddler snuggles sure are the best huh.?
Chocolate covered almonds are my favorite. Yum

A five mile early morning. Really early 4:00 am… It was kinda scary and I almost face planted, which was an exciting way to begin the day:)

Reply

Oh no…I hope you don’t get sick, too. Hang in there (all of you!!)
My workout was a 1.2 mile swim. After 3 days of running and intense massage yesterday I needed that. Water-heals-everything. Chocolate covered = anything BUT fruit. Just can’t do it. Strangely, one of the best things at the chocolate fountain is the chocolate covered marshmallows. But I love most everything = nuts, caramel, cookies.

Reply

oh noooo I hope you (and brooke, and your mom) feel better soon!! also I really need to try those chocolate covered cinnamon bears you talk about… i’ve never had them!

So sorry you’re under your own version of house arrest and hope everyone is feeling better soon. And I agree that sick little ones will break your heart. :(

Anne Lamott! Anne Lamott! Favourite authour. She’s brilliant, profound, and SO funny. She wrote one work of fiction that I didn’t like too much but all of her non-fiction is YES. And more yes. ps. Hope you guys feel better soon.

Sorry to hear Brooke is sick. Hopefully you don’t catch whatever she has. It looks like she is in good hands. I would pick the Little Mermaid too. ☺

Chocolate covered PEANUT BUTTER!!! The combination of these two things creates a party in my mouth. SO good!

No running for me today. I sprained my ankle yesterday and it’s pretty swollen and tough to walk on. Sigh.

Reply

The flu! I hate it. I’m constantly wiping things down at work and washing my hands. Hope you and Brooke feel better. Nothing worse then your child feeling sick. Do they give Tamiflu to kids? If you get sick get on it stat. I’ve heard good things about it.

Reply

So sorry that Brooke is sick, but it looks like you are being a great mom and helping her through it.

I will be at the gym killing-it for an hour.

Today I have a 5 mile run. I will try to take photos of my route and blog them so you can possibly feel like you got outside today & I will think of you and Brooke while I’m out.
My favorite chocolate covered candy is raisins! I love them!

I’m really into Gillian Flynn right now. Not sure if I will be getting my sweat on today. A little sore after yesterday’s run/step class combo.

The flu has been going through my family like crazy too! It’s so sad to see everyone sick (even my little 1 year old boy) but luckily I haven’t caught it yet!

I have been loving Jodi Piccoult lately. I read The Storyteller recently and couldn’t put it down. Incredible plot twist!

Hopefully I’ll be getting to the park to run with the BOB if it isn’t raining too hard!

I’d have to say the best chocolate covered candy is peanut butter M&Ms. I hate all types of cinnamon candy. So gross! Sorry!

Reply

Oh no, having your kid sick must be the worst thing ever. :( Sending lots of healthy vibes to you both!!

I’m running a hilly eight miles today after work. :) Rest day yesterday so I am PUMPED.

Hope you guys feel better! I have a problem w chocolate covered fruits like cherries and blueberries. I bought a giant bag of chocolate covered super fruits at costco and FINALLY finished the bag yesterday so that it doesn’t taunt me anymore. Those cherries from TJ are ok but they weren’t tart enough for me. Ok, let me calm down.

Little Mermaid is the best movie ever. She has made a wise choice.

Reply

I hope you both start to feeling better soon! I went to a spin class this morning. And I basically love dark chocolate covered anything, I’m especially loving espresso beans these days!

Reply

Oh no!! Feel better soon. The flu sucks…I had it two weeks ago and since I work at a hospital it is just looming around me. Hopefully I can get a quick workout today after work but yesterday it was so busy that my feet were in so much pain from standing.

Reply

We had the flu last week. I hope your version is the two-day rather than the two-week one going around.

A painful tempo run at 5:30 am. When will I stop dreading tempos??

Dark chocolate covered peanut butter… Mmm. As simple as a heaping spoonful of pb liberally covered in choc chips. Had some last night in fact. But Oreo milkshakes are my favorite milkshakes…in fact it was my first post-flu meal last week!

Reply

I hope you and Brooke feel better soon!

Sorry everyone is sick and hope all are well soon! HUGE Agatha Christie fan…if you enjoy her books, check out “Poirot” on Netflix! I thought the first few episodes were a little slow, but they get better and better…season 11 has turned into feature-film quality stuff…David Suchet IS BRILLIANT as Hercule Poirot! (just in case Mom needs something new to warch too!). Love your blog…feel better!

Being sick sucks.
No favorite authors, I read a lot of autobiographies.

Today will be a bike day. I ran 8 miles while my husband rode his bike with me last night, and I got super jealous of how cool he looked on his cruiser bike! I think I may hop on mine after work and pick up some Jimmy John’s bread (50 cents a loaf at the restaurant) to make garlic bread to go with tonight’s lasagna! Yum!!

I would fill in the candy blank with junior mints or snickers!

Reply

Hoping to run today. :-) In Ohio, and it’s rainy, and windy, but hopefully I won’t be deterred.

Sorry that you’re sick. :( That’s always sad. But there’s nothing like just resting, good nutritious food, and more rest. :)

I am a peanut butter ‘sucker’, so I would have to say ‘reese’s pieces’ or minty chocolate are the best chocolate covered candy! :)

Reply

Sorry you’re all sick. Take care of yourself, get lots of rest. Take an extra day before you start pushing, you don’t want a relapse.

Reply

We’ve been sick too. I swore up and down it was the measles from Disney, but nope. Just cold :)

I highly recommend switching your oreos to birthday cake oreos for your shakes! We also have a local dairy that makes cotton candy flavored milk.. it makes the best milkshakes!

I’ve never read anything by Agatha Christie. I need to change that. You might enjoy The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. It is the first one of a series about a girl detective (but the books are definitely for adults). English mysteries.. same boat! I looove the series :)

Reply

Hope you feel better. Don’t worry about running, just rest and take care of yourself and Brooke for a few days.

Chocolate covered raisins!

Reply

I hope this sickness clears out soon. That is NO fun. Especially being a mom and trying to take care of anyone when you are not feeling well. That’s the worst!
I ran 5 miles today, but was supposed to run 9. Oops. I should have looked at my plan.

Reply

Chocolate covered marshmallows!!! All the way. And dark chocolate. Always dark chocolate. :)

I hope Brookers feels better!!! Keep eating those cherries, I hear it gives you immune boosting powers to stay flu-free ;)

Reply

I love marshmallows. I can’t have chocolate but caramel covered marshmallows are my favorite. Now I want some.

Reply

Oh man, hope you guys feel better soon! I like something salty covered in chocolate, so maybe a peanut? I did some intervals on the treadmill this morning. Only 30 minutes, but gave me a good sweat to last for the day.

Reply

Poor thing :( The flu is the worst. And it is especially bad to watch your little one suffer from it. I hope the whole family is better very, very soon!

I love Agatha Christie! Way, way back in the day I won a bunch of her books from some game I won from yogurt lids (an usual streak of luck for me). And after reading those books I had to read them all. She is so good!

Get well soon!!

Reply

My parents just got me to start reading Agatha Christie! Her books are so good and the mystery is always solved in the most amazing way! Feel better soon! Sorry you are sick! However, when my daughter has a fever is about the only time she will cuddle with me…I’ll take it!

Reply

Get well soon, Brooke. On another note, I had the strangest dream. A movie of your blog was coming out and I was watching the preview. It was called, The Hungry Runner Girl. (duh!). And the previews looked AMAZING. HAHAHA.

Reply

I don’t have one specific author that comes to mind, but right now I’m reading “Growin Up Social” by Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane. Gary Chapman is one of my favorites – my favorites change a lot based on whatever I’m reading at the time :)

I hope your little girl feels better and that you don’t get the flu, too! Forget chocolate-covered things, I want to make that Oreo milkshake now! Thanks for sharing the recipe!!!

Dark CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES? Now you have to be nice to me when I eat any chocolate/cherry combination.

I’m planning to get my sweat on with a 3.5 mile run on the tready…
Then… I will binge watch Gossip Girls, and do ab work and squats!!

Reply

I’m SO sorry Brooke is sick. I do love when they fall asleep on you though. It’s so warrm and snuggly.
I also hope you don’t get it. That’s completely unfriendly.
My favorite author in the world is Dick Francis. I’ve read so many books, from book club to summer read. But when I want “comfort food” I go to Dick Francis. I’ve read them over and over. He has over 40 I think. They are old even by my standards…LOL. So, no cell phones and such in these books and they mostly take place in the UK. But they are so good and he won many awards for them. They are a great read.

Reply

I’m sorry Brooke is sick! I like Brooke’s flu recovery protocol. With that you too should feel better soon.

Favorite author: Ken Follet. Pillars of the Earth and World Without End are my favorite books followed by his new trilogy. His last book came out a few months ago and I’ve been pecking away at it slowly. I don’t want it to end!

You turned me onto chocolate covered cinnamon bears. Def a must have for road trips.

The best chocolate covered candy is OREOS! I know they’re not candy but chocolate covered oreos are one of my favorite things in the world.
