Just a few things from our Friday!

I am off to our annual Jingle Bell Run with a bunch of runners in the area.  I am planning on doing about 10 miles and of course refueling afterwards with some french toast like we do every year.

Thank goodness there isn’t any ice like last year:

Yesterday I showed up at the gym thinking I was going to run on the treadmill but I just wasn’t feeling it.  Instead, I went in to an express pump class for some muscle torture followed by the stairclimber for some lungs and muscle torture.

The boy came over and we put up our Christmas lights outside… Just a little behind on that.

Our tradition for yesterday was making and decorating sugar cookies.  Paige’s recipe is still our favorite.

And Brooke is really into pretending it is her birthday again, singing happy birthday and then blowing out a candle.

Because I eat at the exact same three restaurants over and over again, I was challenged to pick out a new place to eat for dinner last night.

A restaurant devoted to grilled cheese sandwiches—> Melty Way.  The chicken and avocado one was the absolute best.  You could also get dippers which were little sides of soup used for sandwich dipping.  Brilliant.

I haven’t shown you a picture of froyo in quite sometime;)

The way to my heart.

Nothing strange about sour gummy warms and hot fudge sauce in the same cup.

I am definitely a creature of habit. We go to the same couple restaurants all the time. I live in a small-ish town so there aren’t a lot of options though!

I finally gave up on putting up my outside Christmas lights. Just didn’t happen this year!

Today I am picking up my little sister from the airport! I haven’t seen her since June!

I’m coaching all day today – first indoor meet of the year. We are also hopefully putting up our Christmas tree!

Good luck on your race! I’ve run turkey trots but never a December race!
I tend to always eat at the same places…like Chipotle. All the time.

Have an awesome time with your run! I just had a great 10 miler with a good friend. The best therapy!

I’m resting today! Had a rough week in and out of the ER and finally Mayo Clinic figured out I have none deterioration in my ankle of the same foot I had a stress fracture in this year. Thankfully the ankle isn’t a stress fracture yet and they caught it soon. So I’m taking resting serious. Nothing but swimming and wrapping presents for me. Have a great run today!

Have fun at your race! I’m heading out for 9-10 miles right now :) Later today I’ll be fighting the crowds for some last minute shopping/returns, so I’m counting that as bonus cardio.

Reply

Have fun at your race and refueling afterwards :) I tend to switch it up when it comes to dinner but I cannot get away from chipotle for lunches out, haha!

I am really bad about eating at the same restaurants over and over again, even though I leave in a city with great dining options.

Our family’s tradition is making gingerbread cookies on Christmas Eve and decorating them together. Glad to see there are other cookie-making traditions out there :)

This weekend I’m focusing on being more mindful. In taking an official rest day today, minus a little bit of strength work. I have a hard time relaxing myself and find nyself competing against time, trying to do too many things at once and I feel tired.

Wish me luck!

Happy 10 miles and French Toast.
I love trying new restsurants on vacation, at home I become a more of a creature of habit. Chris and I have a date night each month to branch out though.

I’m going to run something between 7-9 tomorrow. Not exactly sure yet! Haha.

I love trying new restaurants! But it usually has to be planned. If we’re both starving and deciding to get take out, it’s always something we’ve had before.

Have a great run!

I am a total creature of habit! I like cafe rio, Kneaders and sometimes the habit. I’m not a huge eating out fan.
I just started looking for Christmas 5k- I’ve been recovering from an injury and have worked up to 2.5 miles. Know of any good ones? If I get one more race in this year I’ll end 2014 with 14 races.

I made cookies last night and forgot to use the cookie cutters! Next time!!

I am horrible at trying new restaurants! I am, however, trying a new place on Sunday… quite a stretch for me!

Plans for today: Having my boyfriend’s parents over for fajitas! We’re also going to the Lincoln Park Zoo Lights!!

Reply

I probably won’t get in a long run but will do my usual 5-7 miles today on the treadmill. Boo.

My son is 4 months older than Brooke and he’s totally into pretending it’s his bday too! Must be a stage/phase thing! Every morning he gets candles in his oatmeal to sing happy birthday to someone then blow them out. ha!

Reply

Oh my gosh my son would so love that restaurant. He graduates from high school this spring and we’re having a grilled cheese party to celebrate.

Recovering from a torn Achilles so no running for me until the new year. Love new restaurants but we have our favorite one that we have as a go to when out running errands. They are always asking how my foot is doing (I have injured the same foot 3 times). And today, well today is finishing last minute gifts that I am quilting. Need to get them done! I am always pushing myself to the last minute of deadlines, wish I wouldn’t do that.

Reply

I hope your achilles continues to recover, that it doesn’t get hurt for the 4th time and you are out running ASAP!!!

We have a few local restaurants that I love and go to over and over but on a date night I like to try new places.
Today: hitting the gym then the grocery stores ( I may have to visit Walmart. I’m a little scared.) Then getting ready for a Christmas party tonight. It’s an ugly sweater party but I don’t have one and spending $ on something like that isn’t in the budget this year. I thought about painting a tshirt or something but this has been one of those weeks.

Just ran a 5k and had my second fastest time, so my weekend is off to a great start!

That ice on the ground screams “just stay home and sleep” to me, be safe out there girlfriend!

WAY TO GO MOLLY ROSE!!! That is so awesome!

Reply

I am a total creature of habit with my favorite restaurants but do try to mix it up by picking a new sushi spot or great restaurant in the city…15 miles this morning!

Reply

I’m sipping on coffee while listening to the torrential rain hit the window behind me. I’m heading out for 15 miles in about half an hour. I’ll dress super warm and listen to the audiobook “Committed” on my phone. I stick my phone in a ziploc bag in my pocket when I run in rain like this. Rain sucks, but it’s WAY better than snow/ice!

Reply

I love trying new restaurants, but once I find something I like, I order it every time I go to the restaurant!

I was thinking about doing a long run this morning, but I woke up to really heavy sleet coming down, so I think I’ll move it to tomorrow morning and make today my rest day :)

Reply

I just finished 7 miles… only 9 degrees out and I’m freezing! I love trying new restaurants (especially when in new cities!) but around here we don’t have anything I like very much so I end up going to the same 2 places.

When is Paige going to start a blog?! :)

Reply

Soup as a dipper sauce? Genius! Have a great run.

Reply

My long run was 12 miles today! Now I dont feel guilty eating cookies at a holiday party tonight!

When can we see a pic of the boy:)?

Reply

That is a great question.. hahaha I get too nervous about that kind of stuff!

GREAT JOB on the 12 miles and go to town on those cookies:)

Reply

I don’t have a long run this weekend which feels weird! But I do have a 5K race tomorrow and I am hoping to get a PR to close out the year on a high note!

Hope you had a great run this morning!!

Reply

No holiday races for me this year but i got my long run in this morning, 12 miles. I was surprised I finished after getting nipped by a dog at mile 3.

Today I am making my famous chocolate covered peanut butter bons bons. I’m pretty sure I’ll be at that for at least 9 or 10 hours. I have many orders for them…they’re that good :)

Reply

Such a creature of habit myself. I prefer the same foods at the same places over and over. Why? I’d rather get something I love that’s never disappoints over trying something new and being, well, disappointed.

:)

Reply

I completely, 100%, full-heartedly agree with you!

Reply

We hardly ever eat out – we’re such homebodies! We usually go to the same places over and over again though.

I don’t have plans for the rest of today – this morning I met up with my group for a chilly 6.5 mile trail run (and I wiped out).

I don’t have an official long run planned this weekend, today’s run might be it, we’ll see how tomorrow goes!

Reply

I just got back from my annual holiday run with friends. We ran past all the department store windows and rockafeller center to see the tree. It’s great to go at 7am when the tourists aren’t out yet. We have the city to ourselves. Then we had breakfast at whole foods. I’m headed to my boyfriends for dinner tonight and tomorrow a family Chanukah celebration.

Reply

My long run was on Wednesday since I work all weekend. Whenever I go out of town is when I try new restaurants but in town I am a creature of habit.

Reply

No long run this weekend, just planning on a short easy run with my husband and the puggle!

I always want to eat at the same few restaurants over and over again. Every time we go to St. Louis to visit my parents I ask to go to the same place and when we got out to eat here in Valpo there’s like two restaurants I always choose!

Reply

No long run for me this weekend – I’m still recovering from last weekend’s 50k. My plans for today are to just be lazy all day with my boyfriend and dog :)

The jingle bell run seems like a fun annual tradition!

Reply

I had my first good run since my first half marathon in October! It was a short 3 mile run but it helped me get over my anxiety of getting into running again since my last run had been awful – running my second half in March!

My default restaurant is always Chipotle, but my BF and I love using Yelp to try new places. I’m a super picky eater…..lucky him :)

Reply

YAY!!! Love it when the good runs start happening again after a race! You will rock your next half! Now you have me craving Chipotle!

Reply

20 mile long run.
Creature of habit when it comes to restaurants. Luckily my husband likes to try new spots.
Today: finishing up my Christmas shopping and baking.

Grilled cheese and froyo equals perfection!

Reply

My weekend long run was going to be 4 miles (1st week of half training) but a sinus infection kind of threw a wrench in those plans.
The grilled cheese sounds sooooo amazing!

A restaurant exists called MELTY WAY? That sounds like someplace I would live out of. I love trying new restaurants. I stalk Yelp and have about a billion bookmarked. Unfortunately we live in a town with 2 Mexican restuarants, 3 Chinese and a Pizza Hut, so everything fun in a good 15+ minute drive. I’d say it is better on our wallet this way, but it really just means I’m besties with the Pizza Hut delivery guy and am picking up on my Mandarin.

Reply

Come visit and we will go to Melty Way together:) HAHAHA… you are hilarious!

Reply

Even though I definitely have my go-to list of restaurants, I do like to switch it up from time to time. That is why I love traveling to new places – it forces you to dine at someplace new. ☺

It is SUPER rainy here today, so there will be no outdoor activities. I have pretty much cashed in for a lazy day filled with movies, football, reading, and Christmas fun. Enjoy your day!

Reply

That Melty Way place sounds amazing! There used to be a place near me that was called Wicked Waffle and had all sorts of sweet and savory waffles and waffle sandwiches. Delicious!

Reply

I had a 16 miler this morning! If it were up to me, we would eat at the same few restaurants (jasons deli is always my fav). But my husband always wants to try something we’ve never eaten before so he keeps things interesting! :)

Reply

We are going to make Christmas cookies this weekend too, I will check out that recipe! I’m going ice skating and have a little alone mommy time — THANK GOODNESS. :) And wrapping presents tonight! yay!

Reply

Did my long run of 14 miles mid week, today was a 9.3 mile trail run on a new trail, very beautiful but grueling!
Me & hubby tend to eat at the same restaurants, I am such a creature of habit! Once in a while we will venture out & try something new!

Reply

I am definitely a creature of habit with restaurants. I crave certain meals after I’ve had them so I always want to go back to the same place!

Reply

My long run this weekend was 16km – about 10 miles I think. It felt good. I’m working my way up in distance again.

I definitely have a few restaurants / cafes that I go back to time and time again. I love a good local! But sometimes it is good to try something new, or go to a new area of town to explore. I have some foodie friends I turn to when I want new inspiration.

Today is a fabulous day of not much! Washing, getting a new dishwasher delivered, and some blogging. Throw in brunch of eggs and some sushi for a late lunch, and it’s pretty much my perfect day.

Reply

Sounds like you’re having a great weekend with your guy, food and Brooke :)

My long run will be tomorrow, hopefully. There has been major flood warnings in the area, so I was unable to run today. So hopefully tomorrow.! Like a 10 or 12 miler

Reply

We missed you today! I passed out donuts to friend runners and random strangers this morning. And I ran for the first time in approximately 2 years! A whopping two laps around a small parking lot…it prob took 2 minutes. No pain :)

We haven’t put up outside lights yet because it keeps storming, but we put a tree in our house today. It’s…uhhh…kind of gigantic!

Thinking about a local New Year’s Eve run – swag bags have glow-in-the-dark stuff!

Reply

We used to ALWAYS go to the same restaurants, so the last year or 2 we have made it a point to try different ones all the time. We have 1 bar type restaurant we go to repeatedly because it’s more a family-atmosphere, low key bar with great bar food, but other than that, we try new places now. The biggest thing is pizza joints. :) I have a list of all the pizza places in Columbus, and we are slowly checking them off the list. I was trying for a new pizza place every other weekend, but now it’s about once a month.

My long run was 16 miles yesterday morning. These Saturdays are getting so much better since I made Friday my rest day ;)

I have a fundraiser 10-mile run on January 10. I am raising money for my little cousin, who is staying at Ronald McDonald House and undergoing cancer treatments.

I just wanted to tell you that I DO need to thank you! That sugar cookie recipe is my new go-to. I made a batch for my office holiday party on Friday and they disappeared. I add about 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom to the cookies, and frost them with pink cream cheese frosting with almond extract. Just like that, pink cookies.

I’m from Seattle, but I’ve heard Utah also has these little circles of heaven. I made Americas and donkeys because they’re the only cookie cutters I own (and they fit my office :) but those are details. Thanks again!!!

Mmm, that grilled cheese sandwich place looks awesome!
