On the same running page.

What happens when you don’t have anyone to take a picture of you and your running buddy, you don’t want to take a selfie and your self-timer isn’t working?

You take a picture separately and then put them together to try to make it look like you are giving each other a high five.  Just don’t mind the big white line down the center.

Something really strange happens with me and Josse.  I can only think of a handful of times (throughout our 100s of runs together) where we weren’t on the same page as far as running goes.  We both feel really good or not so hot on the same day (and we even tend to get injured around the same time:)  We must rub off on each other.

Today we both felt really good for our 7 miles.  Our legs felt fresh and ready to go.

We tend to plan our running routes in the winter around the ONLY drinking fountain that is still on (the rest turn off for the winter).

I know, superb picture.

And also some deep conversations.

While I was in one store my mom took Brooke into Claire’s and told Brooke she could choose something out…

Brooke chose out BUTTERFLY CLIPS.  When I saw them it took me back to 1995 when I would wear at least ten of these babies in my hair at a time.

How often do you shave your legs?  Yes, I love to ask for too much information from you.

Tell me something (or a few somethings) that REALLY remind you of your childhood?

On a scale from 1-10… how did your run feel today?  Anything sore?  Legs feeling good?

I shave daily, but when I’m lazy at stop at the knee!
I felt surprisingly good on my run today considering my marathon was Sunday. Heavy legs, but no soreness…woo hoo!

Reply

HUGE CONGRATS on your incredible marathon on Sunday—> 2nd place overall female! WOW!!! Yay for no soreness:)

Reply

It was a small race, but thank you so much!!

Reply

Hahaha…best photo ever! Way to get creative to get the pic you wanted!

Shaving in the winter seems so pointless. This is probably saying far too much about me, but really, my husband should love me regardless. Don’t vows say “for better or for worse?” Winter is part of the ‘worse.’

I think everyone had those butterfly clips, I know I had them! I used to watch the Disney musical Newsies (starring a very young Christian Bale – it was awesome). My sister hates that movie because I watched it All. The. Time.

Took today off. Hopefully I’ll have fresh legs tomorrow!

Reply

I love your thoughts on shaving! That is my attitude too. I also absolutely loved Newsies as a kid every once in a while a song pops on my ipod and it makes me so happy!

Reply

I have the Newsies soundtrack and listen to it probably more often than I should. It’s the best! It always amazes me how many people have never even heard of it!

Reply

NEWSIES! That was my favorite! I think I’ll have to go buy the soundtrack now :-)

Reply

My kids are now obsessed with Newsies too! The musical is coming around again. Check the tour dates!

Hahahahahaha OH shaving. I feel like I usually only shave 2-3 times a week? If that? It SOUNDS gross, but it never really feels gross! Usually when I shave it lasts for like two days so it’s not like I let it get too too bad. But of course I’m a little better about it during swimsuit season!

Butterfly clips! When I think of my childhood I think of giga pets! And password diaries. Pretty hilarious to think of it now.

I’m about to head out for a 5 mile hill run with my running buddy this evening, it’s a pretty day, so I’m hoping it will feel great!

Reply

I shaved every day or every other day. I had a lot of it lasered a few years back. Best invention ever! When I was growing up in WI, I shaved once a week in the winter. It was just too cold!

Reply

I wish I never had to shave my legs! I do it daily and it sucks, but such is the life of a dark-haired Jewish girl so I should accept it by now.

Still sore from Sunday’s marathon so no run today. Going to rest through the long weekend and hopefully be ready to get back out next Monday :)

Reply

hahahah. I don’t have a lot to say other than this post really amused me for a few reasons. First that photo both of you is something I would do.

Second, I have openly said I won’t shave my legs if a boyfriend doesn’t shave his beard. I’m not a beard/mustache girl at all and it makes me break out…luckily it isn’t in Air Force regulations.

Reply

I am 31 years old and I still don’t know how to do my hair, so as I child using butterfly clips was far beyond my abilities. Still is actually. I’m helpless.

No run for me today – a little time on the bike trainer for cross training!

I love the high five picture! You should set up a reader “group” picture that we can all add ourselves to!

Reply

Uh when I was single I maybe shaved once a week in the Winter! Now, at least every other day.

Reply

Those butterfly clips totally remind me of the 90s! So does Nickelodeon Gak, Zoobooks, traper keepers and those pens that you could click to write in a bunch of different colors! haha

My legs are feeling pretty good after yesterday’s speedwork! I’m a slow runner but I was able to crank out hard intervals in the 9 to 10 min. range which is a big deal for me! :D

Reply

My son (8 y.o.) recently brought home one of those multi-colored pens you mentioned. I did not even know those were still made!

Reply

Oh wow, I had no idea they were still made either! That’s awesome!

Reply

I love that pic of Brooke on your leg and the caption :) So familiar!

I love shaving my legs. Is that weird? But I don’t do it as often as I’d like.

The smell of an ice rink really reminds me of my childhood. And the smell of eucalyptus trees after it rains.

Reply

I was just thinking about this earlier in the day. When I was a little girl my mother would let me make the filling for her pumpkin pie (she used the recipe off the Libby’s can). I remember standing in her kitchen and stirring and stirring. Watching the evaporated milk mix in with the pumpkin. To this day I still love to make pumpkin pies. In fact, I’m making two tonight.

Reply

This comment made me so happy! What an awesome memory:)

Reply

I also used to put butterfly clips in my hair. Total flashback!

Reply

Love how you made two photos into one. Very creative shot! ☺ I shave my legs every other day in the summer, anytime before I am going to swim, and once every three-four days in the winter. My leg hair grows super fast, so I must keep up.

My run this morning was better than expected. One of my friends called me out of the blue, asking if I would join her for a run… of course I couldn’t resist. Five miles feels like 5 minutes when running with a friend.

Reply

Hahaha that photo of you and Josse is perfect. Those butterfly clips are so cute! I felt really good during sprints earlier, but afterwards my left knee was really tight, so I’m hoping with rest and ice it’ll get better ASAP :)

Reply

My run was an 8 – because my knees were a bit sore and it was my first time running by myself since xc ended (my buddy is away for Thanksgiving)

Reply

Love that pic(s) of you + your running partner.

About the shaving question….I’ve been with the same man for 10+ years….does that answer the question? hahaha. Honestly, not that often outside of the summer (referring to legs…I’m on top of the pits, always)

I just returned from a 4.75 mile run on lunch break. I went home to check on my sick husband. My calves are a bit sore from running in my winter shoes – it’s always an adjustment!

Reply

Shave? What’s shave? Oh that thing I do in the summer or on special occasions! Yesterday I did a 6 miler and realized I had my nov legs on hope no one noticed.

Reply

HAHAHA I like your comment a whole lot!

Reply

I thunk I’ve been blessed with asian legs that i don’t have to shave. In fact, I don’t know how to shave. In fact I’ve never shaved.

I am scared that once I start I won’t stop because the hair will keep growing back thicker and thicker each time!

Reply

If you and Paige run most of your runs together, perhaps you are making the same training errors and have the same physical tolerance levels? It might be worthwhile checking out your training diaries to see if there’s a link somewhere with these injury periods. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Good luck! :-)

Reply

I don’t either:) We have talked a lot about our mistakes in the past with our training that may have caused injuries and are working on them!

Reply

I shave my legs about once a week. During summertime, too. And I live in Florida. And now I have no friends.

Polly Pockets! I wanted a sister so bad so I pretended they were my sisters. Again, no friends. Also, American Girl dolls. I had Molly (obviously) and loved matching my outfits with her. (Will you be my friend?)

No run for me today!

Reply

I shave way less in the winter (maybe once a week) but in the summer I shave more often because I’m wearing shorts and skirts.

Run yesterday felt amazong, wasn’t sure how it would go but I ended up fewilg great and finishing 5 miles @ 7:40 pace.

I always wore butterfly clips in my hair when I was younger! Those and scrunchies really remind me of being a kid, I used to have lucky scrunchies and ones that matched different outfits. It is so fun that Brooke got butterfly clips :)

Reply

Those group texts sound hilarious. I ran in Barry’s Bootcamp on the treadmill today and my legs felt heavy!

Reply

Every other day the legs get shaved.
I had heavy legs and ran in my slower range today. But my knee behaved so I think slower is a good thing.
Oh, childhood…slinky, rubix cube….jelly bracelets. Jelly shoes! Big belts that crossed diagonal in the front. So much! Holly hobbie. Silly putty. I’m all over the map I know. Lol

Reply

I pretty much shave my legs every day.

Those bobble hair ties, lip smackers, American Girl dolls, barbies…oh childhood.

My run was a 6. I was grumpy for most of it (of course I felt better when I was finished) but I stuck it out. They can’t all be 10s!

Reply

Shave: every couple of days…but I ran out of razors on Friday so…
Random childhood memory triggers: Hubba Bubba bubblegum, and homemade popcorn :)

Reply

I shave every day. If I shower, I shave. I can’t stand the feeling of not shaving.

I was just posting about my love of the Clydesdales. My dad and I loved them when I was growing up. They just give you that warm fuzzy feeling, they are so pretty.

And phrases that make me think of my dad. Silly old fashioned phrases. I use them often. Keeps him alive to me.

I love Brooke’s boots. So cute.

Reply

Right now I don’t shave my legs much at all since my boyfriend is 3500 miles away and I am wearing pants every day. I ran in shorts the other day and could feel the breeze in my leg hair…I finally caved and shaved them that day.

My run today felt like crap for the first two miles but the second two felt increasingly better. Of course I felt great just as I finished 4 miles and didn’t have time to add on any more. Probably for the best though since I am supposed to be tapering!

Reply

I am participating in no shave November with a class at the school I work at. Day 25- its getting scary! When I run in half length pants I can feel the breeze in my leg hair! Ha!

Reply

Wow those butterfly clips took me back!! So do the pbs shows like zoom and Arthur and slicking my hair back with gel (eww!). :)
Just finished 4 miles on the treadmill while my kids napped – I felt a little tired but watching an old episode of psych took my mind off it.

Reply

Love Psych! And Arthur still comes on…with new episodes!!

Reply

Oh my goodness! I did the exact same thing today! Psych and four miles. That is too funny:)

Reply

That’s so funny, Bethany! They are perfect length to run and walk a couple minutes at the end, while not thinking about the fact that I’m staring at an unfinished basement. :)

Reply

Those butterfly clips! I so relate.
As for shaving, it’s almost nonexistent in the winter. I’m lucky enough that I’m super blonde so it’s hard to see my hairs (unless you catch it in the right light)…I’m pretty sure that all girls need to change the “norm” for how our legs should be shaved, haha.
The rubber ball spikey earing really bring me back, which was also a hot Claire’s find!

Reply

Hey! What is this “choose something out” saying?! I’ve never heard that before.
Also, my legs are so fury I can feel my hair blow as I run. My husband is one lucky man ;)

Reply

I had an amazing run this morning I love when everything plays out like expected!

Reply

Those butterfly clips are so cute

Reply

HAHAHAHAHA… that picture is HILARIOUS. Genius idea.

I hate shaving but I try to do it almost every day.

Reply

I shave every day (TMI: my underarm hair does not grow–weird).
Those body sprays called Impulse remind me of growing up. And the butterfly clips, too! Today was swim day so legs felt great. Hoping that carries over into tomorrow’s (windy) run.

Reply

I must shave every day, max is every other. I hate the feeling of stubble.
I totally remember those butterfly clips! Also gak, Lisa frank, slap bracelets, old navy performance fleece, oh my I could go on.

Reply

I’m going to be completely honest with you here. Now that it’s winter time and I basically only wear pants or workout capris, I’ve only been shaving from the knees down lately. Gross, I know!

Reply

Dating someone = shave every day.
Single = shave only when I get embarrassed to be at the gym with such long leg hair.

Hey, there’s gotta be SOME benefits to the single life =).

Reply

During the summer, everyday. During winter, I shoot for once a week ;)

Aw those butterfly clips! Such nostalgia!

My run was stellar today! 5 miles @ 7:40 min/miles (half marathon pace). It was cold but I felt amazing.

Reply

My mom passed down her baby blanket to me, then I passed it down to my son. I LOVED that blanket growing up and the feel and smell of it remiss me of my childhood :-)

14 mile run planned in the morning. I’m foam rolling now and finding some tight/tender areas but nothing new there ;-)

Reply

Butterfly clips remind me of late elementary school in HUGE ways! Going along with that: snap bracelets, my polly pocket earrings (are polly pockets a thing anymore?), and jelly shoes!

Reply

I am a natural blonde so I can get away without shaving as much as others, during the winter it is probably every 5 days or so, in the summer about every 3

Reply

Oh, shaving…the thing I should do every single day but do about twice a week. Hairy legs for the win.

Reply

Hmmmm………….I shave more often in shorts weather, that’s for sure!

A few things that remind me of my childhood……..VHS and cassette tapes, virtual pets, doodle bears, crispy m&ms, Sears portrait studios, and fanny packs!

I did not run today……….I had to do some wedding shopping for plates and decorations and visit my bro in hospital. Tomorrow will be a good run on the treadmill…………..I am petsitting all week and have access to a treadmill! I am not a big fan of treadmills, but knowing I have no excuse not to run, and I can go in crummy weather or at midnight is pretty cool!

I saw this board on pinterest about favorite things from the 80’s!!!!! I lived it!!!!!
Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, Popples, Small Wonder, My Two Dads, Teddy Ruxpin, New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gibson….it was a total flashback to my childhood!!!

Reply

Armpits… every other day? Legs… about the same. I am still blonde, so hair rarely shows, but it bugs me!
Felt super today. Did a speed play since it was dark and I couldn’t really keep track of the minutes/intervals. Awesome solution at 5:30 a.m.!
Happy almost Thanksgiving, Janae!

Reply

I ran 11 today and it turned out awesome! I worked until 10 this am so it was a later run and I was super surprised how good it felt.
I’ve become very lazy with the leg shaving. Once a week I wash my hair and shave. I still love the dry shampoo to keep my hair smelling great. Oh….I do shave my legs when I go get a massage. That’s just rude not to.

Reply

Brooke is such a cutie! Those butterfly clips take me back! It’s crazy how things come back in style.

Reply

I don’t shave my legs enough ha, probably once a week or less in the winter. Sailor moon and otter pops remind me of my childhood :) Love the cute picture of Brooke hanging on your leg :)

Reply

It makes me happy that butterfly clips are still a thing! I had so many, and no regrets.

Reply

I don’t shave my legs at all…because when I paid off my student loans (1 year after graduating!) I gave myself laser hair removal as a late graduation present! And I must say, it was absolutely the best money I ever spent. I never spend huge sums of money on myself, but that? That was worth it.

Reply

Laser hair removal enabled me to put on my shorts and become a runner at age 44, as someone with the legs of a man and zero free time. And the attention span of a nine-year-old. I dropped a couple thousand on laser hair removal at my dermatologist’s office a few years ago, best money I ever spent! And now I shave my legs probably once every couple of weeks in the summer, or if I’m going to the pool.
Anybody who has good enough eyesight to spot my leg hair at the gym, is not working out hard enough.

Reply

Gotta admit, the cool(er) weather in CA is a relief from having to shave my legs every damn day. Especially since I had a baby in May–shaving was literally a pain!

Also I’m a total linguistics nerd and I noticed you said, “choose something out.” I love spotting regional (I assume?) differences in language! I say “choose something” (no out) or “pick something out.” These are the things I notice. I’m such a winner.

Also I have a workout buddy like you! She and I are always in the zone (or not) together! :-)

Reply

Great short four miles on the treadmill while I watched one of my favorites, Psych! The humor kept me laughing out loud for the majority of my run!

Reply

Eh, I feel like shaving in the winter is unnecessary. Unless you live somewhere warm. I basically go as long as I possibly can. When I break down and shave, it’s usually just my calves because I want to wear cropped running tights to the gyms. I’m classy like that.

Today’s run was great! I had to cut it short because the kiddo woke up before I was done, but my legs felt fresh.

Reply

Butterfly clips!! I rocked those too back in the day!

The smell of the grill and James Taylor music playing remind me of my childhood. :) My family used to cook out on weekend nights growing up, and they’d always play James Taylor (my fave now!).

Reply

I have really fair skin and really dark hair so I shave almost every day year round. I don’t mind though.
80’s kid. I remember thinking those butterfly clips were cute and wishing they’d been out when I was young enough to wear them! The old Hanna Barbera cartoons take me right back!

Reply

Haha! On a good week, I’ll shave twice. :)
My legs are sooo sore right now, but not from running. I did calf raises yesterday for the first time in forever, and now the backs of my knees/calves are super tight and sore.

Reply

Well, I’m heading out for my morning run. Yesterday’s run was great considering my shoulder got tweaked whiled napping. Yes, I said napping. Lol.

Brooke is getting more beautiful each day if that’s even possible.

My childhood comes flooding back to me every time I see Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite or Care Bears. Oh and of course Cabbage Patch Kids. #80s

I shave my legs every day, but don’t do a super job at it.

Reply

I always INTEND on shaving everyday, but in reality its closer to once a week :)
Whenever I smell Play-Doh I am transported to childhood. Also Barbies.
I’m feeling about an 8. Still don’t have all of my endurance back, but it feels wonderful to be running just for fun!

Reply

Shaving: I shave my legs every day. every day. All the way up to mid-thigh at least. Just cannot go without doing it, even in the winter.

Childhood: all the holiday tv specials (Charlie Brown, Grinch, and especially all the Rudolph ones – like those that contain songs like these gems: “I’m Mister Heat Miser, I’m Mr Sun…”, so much childhood. sigh.

Reply

The frequency of my leg shaving must be pretty bad because I honestly don’t know! Maybe once a week? (It’s so cold I’m always wearing long pants anyways, even to bed!)

Ahhh I used to put wayyy to many of those butterfly clips in my hair back in elementary, too! Good memories, but I hope that fashion trend never returns for adults. It’s cute for kids, but there should be an age limit on the package :)

My run was about a 7.5 today. I’m nearing the 2nd trimester of this pregnancy and I’m starting to feel a bit better! Energy is returning, but my pace is still slow. I’m focusing on being thankful for each run!

Reply

Usually I shave my legs a couple times a week.. But I tend to get pretty lazy when it isn’t warm (I live in Maine.. So yeah..) I had foot surgery 6 weeks ago though, so that was the last time I shaved.. Yikes! Do you remember those tattoo black plastic choker necklaces?!? So 6th and 7th grade. And a run?!? I can’t wait to get back out there once I’m off of crutches! All I want is a good run! That’s the goal :)

Aw I used to shop at Claire’s all the time, haha!
