Lots of randomness coming your way.
-Brooke has been nailing her track workouts lately.
I am a proud mom.
-She is REALLY into coloring all of the sudden.
-Soooo that time I fell on the trail… ummm I am starting to realize how lucky I am that I didn’t break my arm judging by the bruise/swelling. My arm was the first thing to hit the ground when I fell. My advice to you is to refrain from falling.
-I went over to someone’s house last night to carve pumpkins and every inch of their house was already decorated in Christmas stuff. It made me happy.
-I like to wear my PureCadence 3s when we do runs that include both road running and trail running… the support/stability works well on the trails and the streets for me.
-Starting to pull her weight around here;)
-Loved the advice that a good friend sent to me last week when I was having a hard time.
-Speaking of cookies. The last treat that I had while on my annual girls’ trip in California. Yes, those are gummy bears on my ice cream cookie sandwich. Go to Cream if you are ever in Palo Alto!
-Speaking of the girls’ trip… I am an awkward human.
–THIS STORY made me cry. People are amazing.
-We go through an absurd amount of bubble bath in this household. The day hasn’t started until a bubble bath has occurred in Brooke’s opinion.
-Loved Natalie’s costume that she sent me:)
-I have had my garmin 305 for 7 years now and it still works like a dream… the only piece of electronics that I own that I haven’t cracked the screen on.
-Who has read this book? Thoughts? I keep hearing really good things about it!

Oh my! So much Christmas! I LOVE IT!!! My house doesn’t even look that Christmasy on that fabulous day, I need to step up my game!
Sorry you were having a hard time last week – I’ve been thinking about the phrase broken heart and contrite spirit a lot lately. I think I need to go blog about it now.
The Hungry Runner Girl
Can’t wait to read it!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Christmas is my favorite holiday! My Mom’s house has been decorated in Christmas decor since last year. She came to AZ and stayed an extra two months after the holidays because I was injured. Then when she went home had emergency open heart surgery. We decided it was best to keep the decorations up. They made her happy and I’m convinced it helped her heal faster.
The Hungry Runner Girl
I love that she kept the decorations up! How is she doing now?
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
She’s doing really well. Working out daily and eating well. I’m so proud of her and the lifestyle changes she has made. Thanks for asking!
The Hungry Runner Girl
GOOD! That is awesome Megan!
Jessica
You are such a sweet and thoughtful person Janae!
Sarah @ KS Runner
I wait until the Friday after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas. I’d rather do that than Black Friday shopping. But I’ve pretty seriously considered decorating in October before. I feel like I’m in sprint position at the starting line in front of my Christmas boxes!
My garmin lasted 4 years. It was still working, but I was gifted a 620, so I gave my other one to my sister. She still uses it, so its still going strong!
I love the advice from your friend! Baking and gifting cookies really is win, win! Feel free to send some to Kansas! :)
The Hungry Runner Girl
I agree with you about Black Friday shopping! That is awesome that your garmin is still doing so great! How do you like the 620?
I need to send you some cookies asap!
Sarah @ KS Runner
I would much rather shop from home, in my bed, in pajamas preferably. Isn’t that why stores offer free shipping??
I love the 620. I never have to wait for it to connect to satellites, which was my only complaint with my old garmin. No more holding my hand up in the air to get closer to the satellites! (everyone does, that, right?)
The Hungry Runner Girl
HAHAH I totally do that! So happy you love the 620!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog
I LOVE to start decorating as soon as November gets here just because it seems like the holidays are over SO quickly and then you have to take everything down! People say that it’s not good to skip Thanksgiving, but I disagree, I’m not SKIPPING – I’m just enjoying my Christmas decor while eating my turkey ;)
Refrain from falling while running – good solid advice! :)
I’ve only had my Garmin for about a year and a half now, but it works great. Man SEVEN years, that tells you how awesome Garmin products are!
Linda @running4two
Cookies always make a day better. :-)
Annabelle really likes to climb…on tables!!!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
My garmin 210 is still working like a champ. I got it when training for my first full in the summer of 2011
I start Christmas decorating on December 9th. It is an important date and I always remember someone I loved very much on that day. It was his birthday. So I decorate and make it a festive celebration. :)
AmandaM
I’ve heard many gripes about Christmas starting too early… but really it makes me happy to see those decorations. I love the season and it ends so abruptly so why not start early?! Yay :) I usually don’t start decorating until the day after Thanksgiving.
I love the Garmin 900xt – fully waterproof, tracks our summer swims, runs, bikes. Pricey but totally worth it. And I love that it has buttons. I am NOT a fan of that touch-bezel thing.
Have a good night!
Leanne
I’m on my second and third garmin(I alternate), but still have my first one and it is close to seven years old, but too big and bulky for my little wrist.
I start decorating for Christmas the Friday after Thanksgiving and we get our tree that Saturday. That may be changing this year as we are getting our soon to be 10year old a goldendoodle puppy for Christmas, but we have to pick her up on Nov.24th. Road trip to West Va! So Bree’s Christmas will start when she gets home from school on Nov. 24th- I can’t wait to see how surprised she is!
Right now Bree is into Frozen (she will be Elsa for Halloween, it helps that she is blond!), stuffed animals, American Girl dolls and accessories, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson (she loves to read) and is starting to take an interest in decorating (we are building a house).
Leanne
Oops, I thought you asked what are our kids into, missed the reading part! Sorry!
Amber
I can’t believe your garmin has lasted so long! I have the exact one and it dies every 2 years! Not exactly the cheapest thing in the world.
My 2 year old is obsessed with tucking in our dogs. She drags out all her blankets and animals and goes to town. Every waking minute! It’s not always blankets; she gets creative and uses washcloths, clothes, you name it.
I love how long Brooke’s hair is!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
I have the Garmin forerunner 10 – I’ve had it about a year and a half and it’s still doing great – even after I hit it on the side of my car. Oops! I have been thinking about an upgrade lately though, the TomTom runner cardio has me really intrigued!
Christmas decorations go up the day after Thanksgiving around here!
Sana
Brooke+Bubbles. Best combo ever :)
The Hungry Runner Girl
I completely agree with you!
Alyssa @ See This Girl Run
Random: We just had a chair race a work. I didn’t win. Maybe next time ;)
Now that we all live away from home, we usually put up the tree Thanksgiving night since we’re all home anyway so everyone can participate.
Liv
Ouch that looks like a bad bruise!
In the past 2 weeks, I’ve fallen twice on the SAME root on the same trail and scraped up the same arm and knee! And the falls also scraped my Garmin which I think is sadder since it doesn’t recover haha. I’ve had the Garmin 210 for about 2.5 years and it still works great!
Laura
I’m another day after Thanksgiving holiday decorator. I feel like it’s bypassing the other holidays if I start before they have occurred! And I love thanksgiving, so I don’t like to take away from it. lol
My 7 yr old is really into these fairy books. There’s a whole series about them….The Lollipop Fairy, The Guitar Fairy, The Christmas Stocking Fairy…..there must be at least 20+ of these books. She’s probably read 1/3 of them….I need to find the rest!
I had a Garmin 410, nothing wrong with it, it still works (3-4 years?) but when the new models came out I just HAD to upgrade. I now have the 220 and i gave my 410 to my husband.
Becky @ Olives n Wine
Your poor arm! It looks so painful. And Brooke is obviously destined to be a runner – track running and stealing your Garmin :)
Loren
I hope your arm gets better!! I’ve never had a garmin/gps watch but hopefully someday!
Also, I saw this in our local news yesterday and thought it was pretty interesting! :)

Random: I just returned from a trip to visit my sister (8 hour drive away). She made me a big batch of date squares to take home! I was so excited at her gesture and the fact she knows I don’t know how to make them (and she won’t give me the recipe).
I use Momentum while my guy’s Garmin collects dust, so it is in mint condition.
Christmas spirit lives and takes over my house in many ways, but my something-like-three Christmas decorations go up around December 20 when I finally get it together and panic at the thought of his or my mother visiting. And I can’t bake to save my life (see Date Square reference above, and that’s not even real baking). I bought some of those icicle light thingys last year…
Flower
I have a garmin 405 and the new 620 and they are both awesome. I had the 405 for 4 or 5 years before I got the 620. The 620 is like a coach on my wrist, for real, It has amazing capabilities and I think I utilize 99% of them.
Irina
Christmas decorations already? Ahh too soon! But I’m secretly excited :)
That bruise…wow hope it heals fast! The worst bruise I’ve ever had was from Halloween 2008. I fell and somehow bruised my calf. It was the size of my entire palm and took almost 2 months to heal!
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner
I love my Garmin but I did break the screen almost two years ago. I got a replacement from Garmin but they never refunded me the deposit so that kind of sucked cause I could’ve just gotten a new watch. I love Xmas but I like to celebrate Halloween and Thanksiving first. The day after Thanksgiving though I decorate my entire house and get my freshcut tree!
Cheri @ Overactive Blogger
I love running books! I will have to check that one out!
Linda @ the Fitty
Get better soon! Your kids are so cute…man I want to run alongside them. :)
Brenda @ Don't Lose the Trail
I love Christmas decorations but that seems a little early even to me!
Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes
OH MY GOSH! I need that ice cream sandwich in my life STAT! It looks so delicious! Also, that was great advice from your friend! :)
Amy @ Life to the Full
I just tried to persuade myself into eating brussel sprouts. It didn’t work :( Nasty! I need to try a new method of cooking and make attempt #2 next week.
That ice cream sandwich – YUM!!!! And great advice from your friend.
My garmin has been around for 4 years now. Hoping to have it for many more! My son is in love with baby dolls lately and reading books. I didn’t realize little boys like baby dolls, too. News to me!
ganeeban
C.R.E.A.M is the best :) They keep popping up closer and closer to my hometown… That friend of yours gave some good advice, the next time I’m feeling down I think I’ll do just what she suggested! xoxo, ganeeban

I’ve only had a Garmin for 10 months—life has not been the same since-I freaking LOOOVE my Garmin!!!
I do love cmas decorations…but a moment before thanksgiving, and not one minute after New Years…I can’t stand the clutter from it all!!
Ted
Hey! I’ve been reading for a few months but this is my first comment. I don’t use a GPS watch but I do use an app on my phone which I carry with an armband. I know I’m in a crazy minority but although I do care and am borderline obsessed with my times and splits, I 99% of the time never look at my GPS stats during a run. I like to run on feel. I even ran my first half on Sunday without looking at any times for the whole 13.1. I smashed my goal though! I will admit it has taken some time to learn not to go too fast for the first few miles and to save effort.
Christina
I don’t own a GPS watch and also just use my app…I only could hear my pace when my app chimed in at my last half and running by feel helped me pr. I only race to PR not to actually win though.
Jennifer
I wear a Garmin 620 and love it. I charge it every few days. It’s never died on me…not even during trail ultras.
I try my very best to wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas. I get so excited to decorate!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
My kids are into anything and everything that makes a huge mess. Seriously, that means stealing pens and drawing on furniture, shredding toilet paper, taking all their clothes out of drawers and playing dress up, and playing with water in the sink. They are mess magnets. Maybe the fact that there are 3 of them just makes it that much worse!
I’m having issues with my Garmin lately, mostly charging stuff, but glad you’ve had no issues with yours for that long, makes it more than worth it!
Kate
I love how little kids think running and exercising is fun! It’s the best!!
Natalie @ Free Range Human
Wow! That is some serious commitment to Christmas! I love it in theory, but I have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving to decorate. I think the short amount of time we get to enjoy decorations is part of what makes it so special!
Danica @ It's Progression
This was fun to read! I can’t believe someone has the house decorated for Christmas already.
I typically do that the day after Thanksgiving but since we’re traveling over Christmas this year I’ll probably do it all mid-November :)
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
Wow Christmas decorations already?! I am usually lucky if we get the tree up a week before Christmas. It still hasn’t sunk in for me that Halloween is next week!
Alan
Hi there, its fastidious article regarding media print, we all know media is a impressive
source of data.
Caroline @ The Little Things Blog
This is definitely too early for Christmas!! I allow myself to start listening to Christmas music after Halloween (one month between Thanksgiving and Christmas just isn’t quite enough), but I don’t tend to decorate until right around Thanksgiving.
Kelli
I am so glad you went to Cream! Isn’t it the best?!
I bought the Garmin 10 in June (my first!) and I have loved it ever since. Such a great watch with all the essentials!
My 9 month old son just discovered Cheerios. He is in love. So am I! 30 minutes of pure silence from him.
Caitlin
I love my Garmin 305, too! However, I just took a HUGE spill while running the other night and scratched up my screen. Still works though, so that’s good. And I was also really lucky I didn’t break anything!
Christina (Sisters Running the Kitchen)
So I used to wear Garmin and then switched to Nike. I HATED it. It was so inaccurate. I finally sold it and got the Garmin 10. super simple and probably the cheapest one but small and cute. i got black bc not into the bright colors. I love it. its so accurate. so happy to be back with garmin and I will never leave them again! haha
I wear the pure cadence, too! love those shoes. I use for shorter/faster runs. I wear Nike structures for longer distance.
You had to have gotten this before…that you look like Elizabeth/Liz/lizzy from black list…megan boone in real life. but specifically on that shoe. thats a compliment because I think she is just gorgeous! great show, too, by the way.
I wait until after turkey day to decorate…october is a bit aggressive. i like the fall too much to fast forward to christmas haha
Mia
I think i lost my garmin over the weekend :`( I’m so upset and mad at myself about it. I have several races coming up, including one next weekend, that i don’t feel like i can do gamin less. It’s a less then ideal time to spend the money on a new one, but really think i could do my races/finish my training without one. UGH!!!
PS, I’m pretty sure i have to leave my house to go buy an ice cream cookie sandwich right now!
LeAnne @ This is my faster!
Christmas decorating starts late for me (early December)…but I am away for most of the holiday period so I use that as my excuse. Post thoughts on the book after you read (if you do decide to get it) please :)
runinboise
Moonlit Path is my favorite “flavor.”
Christina
That group pic is hilarious! I’d say u were the drunken friend they took care of but you don’t drink, you’re just happy!
Im randomly doing squats in my living room realizing I should have started 4 months ago and not weeks before my first marathon.
[email protected] Wild in Alaska
Random story? Okay. This morning at the gym, some lady was totally singing on the treadmill. Like, super loudly. She was like 15 treadmills away from me and I had to CRANK up my ipod to drown her out. She was looking around all smug, too, like, “You guys are so lucky to get this concert this morning.”
I’ve had my Garmin for two years and it’s going strong. Except I always forget to charge it and/or turn it off so it is forever running out of batteries during my runs.
jade
I have a 305 too, you can’t kill them!
My kids are into snowboarding and horseback riding….2 very expensive hobbies!
That book looks awesome, I have read his books on nutrition. I am totally going to check this one out, thanks!
Nessa @ Ness Runs
Hope your arm feels better soon! I haven’t fell on a run yet (fingers crossed) which is pretty surprising considering I’m the clumsiest person I know!
I still have yet to invest in a garmin, but considering that yours has lasted so long – I’m definitely going to go for it soon :)
MaryAnne
I usually try to do the majority of decorating the day/weekend after Thanksgiving (couldn’t PAY me to be shopping those days although my sisters love it) but Thanksgiving is kind of late this year and I’ll be gone part of the weekend for my alma mater’s big end of the season rivalry football game, so I may break my own rule and do it the weekend before.
[email protected]
I don’t start decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, I feel like I am bypassing Halloween and Thanksgiving if I do it to soon. I have had my Garmin forerunner 15 for only six months now but I love it, I used to use my phone to track my mileage and buying my Garmin has allowed me to train longer and farther.
Kay
Yikes that is one big bruise, I’m glad you weren’t hurt any worse!
Kristen
Random: I downloaded the Awesome Mix #1 from Guardians of the Galaxy and I can’t wait to listen to it at the gym.
My daughter is really into My Little Ponies right now.
I start decorating for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. I like to get the tree after church on Sunday.
Julie
Anything by Matt Fitzgerald is brilliant. That books sounds fantastic!
Sheena
Cream in Berkeley is my favorite! They recently opened one up in SF and I am IN HEAVEN.
david
I’m almost finished with 80/20 Running. I love it & already starting to incorporate it more into my running. I love Matt’s books.
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties
hahaha that is so funny about the bubble baths! is that a b&bw scent?? yummm!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner
Ugh I was just in San Fran and really wanted to go to Cream but couldn’t make it. Till next time!
april
brooke is going to be a running rockstar when she gets older! it’s in her genes :)
sarah
I always have thought that Brooke and Boo look so similar! Especially when she was younger.
Losing Lindy
I am at a loss of what to buy for my 7 yr old for Christmas He never asks for anything..at all. He is weird!;) Currently he has asked for construction paper.
PeachyLau
Your friend gave you really good advice. I will remember that for next time.
