I just wish that Fall could last for a few extra months. Wouldn’t that be great?
Here are a few of the reasons why I think we should force mother nature to extend this perfect season.
1a. Fall Running. My absolute favorite. The weather is perfect. Shorts (preferably matching ones with your running buddy) and a long sleeve top, jacket or vest is all you need. You are a tiny bit cold when you first start out (at least that is how it is in Utah) but after a mile or so it is just right. ++++++ The red/orange/yellow leaves when you find a really good trail in the mountains, I just can’t think of a lot better than that.
1b. Fall racing. I would SOOO much rather train in the summer/fall for a fall race than train in the winter for a spring race. (My marathon PR and half-marathon PR both occurred during the fall months!!!)
2. Soup. Any and all soup but especially THIS SOUP!!! I made it last night and loved it like I do every fall. It is always a crowd pleaser.
3. Pumpkin candles that make your entire house smell like heaven.
4. These make their appearance in stores (ps my 4 year old nephew calls these cupcakes because the wrapper looks like a cupcake wrapper, he has a good point).
5. Fall clothing. The best.
The two things that I pretty much wear everyday in the fall—> THIS JACKET (in green) and these boots.
On my current Fall Wish-list (that is updated daily because what else am I supposed to do late at night?)——> These booties in black, this coat from Forever 21 and this sweater in every color.
6. The fact that you can find soooo many pumpkin flavored foods at TJ’s. Brooke and I approve of this one:
7. The treats. My favorite snicker doodle white chocolate chip pumpkin cookies, this monster munch popcorn and Pinterest being loaded with things like this:
8. Apple season in Utah. These suckers are so flavorful and are perfect for making apple pie, apple crisp and/or eating a few a day with large amounts of almond butter.
9. All of the good tv shows start up again.
10. People get really into all of the fall festivities. All of the best traditions of the year begin starting in the fall (yes, I already have our list of Christmas traditions put together for each day of December this year).
From last night at a big pumpkin carving competition… this one was my favorite!

Down here in the Southern Hemisphere summer has just started, and I must say that I LOVE it after a long, long winter! Enjoy Fall up there where you are!
Hollie
I do agree. I think the Tallis the absolute best weather to run in. There is nothing like the crisp fall weather. The spring there is still that blast of humidity. One of my favorite things to do honestly is carving and painting pumpkins. I find that yo be do much fun!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
My daughter is going on a field trip to a pumpkin farm today and is obsessed with carving her pumpkin when she brings it home. It’s definitely not my forte but I’ll be doing it. The kids are super pumped for Halloween and are in major countdown mode!
Hilary
Fall makes me so happy! I love it when the air is brisk but it’s not freezing. It makes me feel alive. I don’t know how else to explain it. I also love the clothes, running, soup, pumpkins, and watching football wraped in a cozy blanket.
Ashley @ Kickashmom
I love me some broccoli cheddar soup. We found a pumpkin apple candle this year. Best of both worlds.
Giulia
You have all my admiration to have patient to run, I hate run, then soup seems DELICIOUS and october is a great month to use pumpking inthe kitchen and for other use, 1- my 3 fall favourite: blanket palids with hot tea and good book, my favourite soup pumpkin, carrot and potatoes, amazing….Nice photos!!
Jenelle
I love your links to what you wear. Helps keep me fashionable :) Also, who takes your pics while you are out running? I can’t see my friends willing to run ahead and snap pictures while doing a run together. Maybe I need to ask them to step up! :) Have a great day!
Jessica
I’ve always wondered this too.! Tell us your secret. lol. I seriously have like only one or two pics of me running..
The Hungry Runner Girl
My friend that took those pictures actually wanted to get pictures of us running in her headbands that she sells!
On easy/fun runs we are all about taking pictures of everything but when we are doing hard workouts we never take pics!
Sarah @ KS Runner
I love the smells of fall. Pumpkin, cinnamon, vanilla. It’s the best. Weather is perfect for running and I love a long sleeve and jeans (ok, lets be real, yoga pants) with boots is perfect. It’s still getting into the mid 70s during the day in KS, but the mornings are perfect! And fall marathons ARE the best!
Caroline @ The Little Things
I just wrote a whole post on my favorite fall things yesterday! http://www.thelittlethingsblog.com/a-world-where-there-are-octobers/
I’m loving my fall scented candles right now!
Kristina @ Blog About Running
Winter is my favorite because the weather is a tiny bit cooler here in South Florida and the winter holidays mean extra time off of work (which equals more time for running whenever I want)! :D
Plus you are right about soup being awesome …and hot chocolate. I’m pretty excited for hot chocolate weather to get here!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I love fall running and racing, too! I would much rather train in the heat and then race in the cooler wether than the other way around. For my spring marathon last year I trained through all the cold winter months and then for my race it was 80 degrees! I was so not ready to race in that kind of heat. I am always ready to run in perfect fall weather:)
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner
I love fall running..it is my favorite. Unfortunately with fall so short (it really hasn’t even started where I live) I have to treasure the few moments I’ll have. I love to start eating a lot of soups during this time too. I was just thinking I need a pumpkin. I am going to have to hop on the that before the season ends.
Monica
My three favorite things about fall: The colors, the cozy sweaters, the costumes for Halloween!
My Mommy Group is taking the babies/toddlers to a pumpkin patch this weekend and we’ll decorate them after with glitter/stickers/etc. The next day, my own family is planning on going again and we’ll carve those. I’m so excited!
I love any kind of thick (vegetarian) soup. A hearty bisque, a veggie chili, a thick veggie stew. Yum. No thin soups for me!
Monica
*decorate and carve the pumpkins, not the babies… FYI. Lol.
Brynn
I love that everything suddenly comes in pumpkin form from candles to cereal. But what I really love most about fall is the thing; bring on the layers, boots and puffy vests!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog
I totally agree, you just can’t beat running in the fall. I feel so strong and refreshed!
Also cracks me up that you get to wear jackets in your fall! I have yet to even put on a cardigan :( Praying that it cools down soon!
I haven’t carved a pumpkin this year, not sure if I’ll get around to it, but I definitely have made some fall goodies! :)
Amanda @ Slimplify Life
Fall faves = ALL the pumpkin, chunky sweaters erry day, J. Crew Vests, and perfect running temps!
Flower
Wait, What? It’s Fall???? #FloridaProblems
Christa @ Living Unbalanced
Agreeeed!!! I have #floridaproblems as well, but still rocked a sweater dress and boots yesterday. Worth it.
Flower
Love it!
The Hungry Runner Girl
I need to come visit you guys when there is 2 feet of snow here!
Linda @ The Fitty
Haven’t yet carved pumpkins–we’re saving that for Hallow’s eve. ;)
Scallywag
Fall favourites:
Crisp days with sunshine
AMAZING autumnal colours with all the leaves
Its almost Christmas ;-)
Have you carved pumpkins yet this year?
We don’t do it in the UK really. Perhaps a little for halloween. Certainly there are almost zero pumpkin flavoured things here!
Favorite type of soup?
Is actually really basic leek broth. I like how ‘clean’ it tastes, is that weird?
Liv
I love homemade soup but I’m in college and living in a dorm, so canned soup is sometimes the way to go! I love Amy’s Lentil Soup.
The running weather, pumpkin bread, and the pretty trees & crunchy leaves are my favorite fall things.
Rachel
Agreed. Fall is the best and I’m reminded of that every year.
I love anything pumpkin, the crisp morning air, and the smell of bonfires
Have not carved pumpkins in several years. Might need to do that again!
I love various tomato soups. They are very comforting to my soul.
Marie
I was just saying yesterday how soup is the best reason for colder weather! And I totally agree on the shorts and long sleeves for this season, I will wait as long as I can before switching into leggings!!!!
http://happyandundignified.blogspot.com/
Lindsey @ SimplyLindsey
Reese’s pumpkins are the best!!!! :)
Katie
HELLO! I just wanted to tell you that you have been such an inspiration in my running! I just started college and reading your blog has kept me going! I even signed up for my first half marathon on thanks giving :) Thank you!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hey Katie! I can’t thank you enough for your sweet comment! I hope you are having an amazing day and good luck at college!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
Panera bread’s creamy tomato soup is my favorite!
My 3 fall favorites:
My birthday 10/25
The weather: 50s-60s
Apple crisp made with apples I picked from the orchard myself
Crap I am adding a 4th. Taking photos of the foliage here in the north east!
I fall hard every year for fall. It’s my favorite season. Hoodie and boot season.
Plus I feel extra romantic this time of year. :)
That was 5 & 6. Lol.
Marissa @ Run Riss Run
3 fall favorites are: the weather, everything pumpkin, and the anticipation of the holidays!
The hubs is the official pumpkin carver and he always does something amazing. He hasn’t started yet though. I’m guessing the kids will choose something MineCraft related.
Fav soup is either chicken tortilla or Zuppa Toscana from Olive Garden. Yum.
Alyssa @ See This Girl Run
I love hiking in the fall too but for the same reasons running in the fall are fantastic. The leaves are gorgeous and the weather is perfection!
I love minestrone soup a lot. I had chicken noodle last night. Oh! Kneaders has this tomato ravioli soup that is super delicious too.
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I never really like/crave soup but for the last few days, I am alllll about a good tomato soup. I love to get Trader Joe’s low sodium roasted red pepper tomato soup – so good! I love fall candles but I am all mad that my vanilla pumpkin marshmallow candle from Bath and Body works drips all over the place!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub
I love fall weather for running and the pretty leaves. Other than that I’m not much of a fall person. Fall flavours and colours are just not my thing and I think it just makes me sad because I know winter is coming.
Jennifer
Fall Favorites: Running, the NEST Pumpkin Chai candle , and White Pumpkins
I haven’t carved a pumpkin yet.
And I love veggie chili with honey cornbread!
Kimberly @ Keeping Up With Kimberly
I’m with you on favorite fall things: soup & sweaters are high on the list. My favorite thing about fall though, is bonfires on a chilly evening!
We are going to carve our pumpkins this weekend – I cannot wait!
Gracie
Fall running is my favorite, too!
Shari
Favorite soup will always be chicken noodle! :)
Favorite fall things: cozy clothes and scarves, the canopy of color that spreads across the trees, and pumpkin patches!
Brooke@runningonchange
My favorite soup is minestrone I love it in the fall, and butternut squash soup! My favorite fall things are scarves, I absolutely love collecting scarves!
Kris @ Canadian Girl Runs.
1. The start of hot chocolate season.
2. The crisp cool air.
3. Scarves and boots.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Pumpkin spice lattes, chili and chicken noodle soup and pumpkin blueberry chocolate cashew muffins are my favorite fall things. Recipe here -> http://skinnyfitalicious.com/pumpkin-blueberry-chocolate-chip-cashew-muffins/
Laura
PTL for Reese’s pumpkins! I have that jacket in navy and wear it all the time. Wearing it today, in fact! Yes yes, let’s have fall stick around a bit longer. :)
Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes
That soup looks delicious! Can you do a post on the recipe? I think the thing I love most about fall is that I can eat soup all the time! I love beef stew and chicken and veggie soup! It makes the house smell so delicious when you cook it in the crockpot all day!
Kristen
I struggle with soup. I only like it if I have about a pound of bread/cornbread/dinner rolls to dunk in it. Then I took a nice healthy dinner and ate a pound of bread with it.
Fall favorites: boots, candy corn, trail running.
Liz
Three fall favorites: eating my kids’ Halloween candy to help maintain their health (it’s for the children), fall produce, and knowing that winter is soon going to cover up any weeds in my yard.
Haven’t carved pumpkins yet. I always want to, until I start. Then I remember how messy pumpkins are and ask myself why I spend money on something so torturous. That being said, we’ll probably carve some tonight. But I’ll most likely give myself some chocolate afterwards, as a reward for being such a great mom.
This soup! http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2012/01/tuscan-bean-soup-with-shrimp/ Delicious and easy. I make it without the shrimp garnish. Thank you, Pioneer Woman, for existing.
Cache Valley = no Trader Joe’s, Costco, or Target. Yes, I live in the wild.
Rachel
I second your apple statement. Utah apples are amazing!! I want to go apple picking this weekend for sure, do you have any others recommendations?!
And i thought I had my j crew addiction under control until I read this post…I feel a relapse coming on strong. That jacket is killing me :)
Amy N
You’ve almost convinced me to like fall. I do love that it’s shorts and long sleeve top weather. I love that in WA there are lots of rainbows. Although both hint at what’s coming next – winter. I guess I’m a season pessimist! I’m always in mourning for summer during the fall season.
Kami
I second everything you said about fall… especially here in Utah! It seriously is THE best time of year hands down! although I loved fall in New England when I lived in CT but nothing beats the Utah Mountains!! My fall favorites have got to be the smells, the clothes and the food oh and the colors, sorry I can’t pick three, that is just harsh! I haven’t carved pumpkins yet… I hate doing it cause I am impatient, not creative and I hate the smell of it but I LOVE watching others carve theirs! Favorite soup is any type of enchilada/chili type soup and or chessy bacon potato and corn chowder… have you noticed a trend, I can’t pick favorites. I think I feel like I will hurt the feelings of whatever it is I am picking, I am weird!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
I don’t think I’ll be carving pumpkins, things like that are hard to do in a city apartment. But I have my pumpkin candle burning and my puffy vest and scarves on the ready. Happy fall to you:)
Leslie @ Life Begins @ 30?
I love fall!! I usually burn out by the fall races, so my PR’s are in spring…BUT I love running on the trails when the leaves change.
Danica @ It's Progression
I love that pumpkin carving!! Awesome idea and super cute.
My favorite kinds of soup is chicken vegetable and sweet potato black bean chili.
Kay
Yes I love everything about fall!! I have 29374389743 Bath and Body Works fall candles haha.
Brenda @ Don't Lose the Trail
This is such a solid list of fall favorites – I think I agree with every single one! I am carving pumpkins sometime within the next week, I can’t wait! It’s always super hard for me to hold off until close enough to Halloween that my jack-o-lantern won’t be a liquefied puddle of rot by the time Halloween actually gets here.
Michelle
I love Fall for all things apple, trail running and mountain biking, and October baseball – GO Giants!!!
Kelli
You need to tell us where you buy all of your amazing fall candles!
My three fall favorites: 1. Fall running/racing, 2. All the smells (especially crisp apples) 3. Fall foods! Apple and pumpkin everything, and soup and hot chocolate.
My favorite type of soup is tortilla soup or the classic tomato soup with grilled cheese.
Tiffany @ The Chi-Athlete
Pumpkin everything! And fall and winter clothes = the best! Running is way more fun in the cooler/cold air.
We haven’t carved pumpkins this year yet. I always ignore the pumpkin seeds, rather than baking them, when we carve them too early. Maybe this weekend will be a good time for that. :D
Alex
Scarves, pumpkin cornbread and walks in this crisp weather. I also wish fall would stick around a few more months! -those cupcakes look to die for. Yum!
Michelle (The Runner's Plate)
I love fall as well, but ours is pretty much over as it snowed yesterday. (Wah!)
I actually just got those BP booties. I had several pumpkin-flavored foods over the weekend, which was a treat!
Lindsey C
I love, LOVE fall!! Love Halloween, love all the pumpkin smells, and thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year :)
We don’t carve pumpkins until the night before Halloween – in California if you carve you early they all melt :(
I make a mean sweet potato & cauliflower soup – yum!
The Hungry Runner Girl
I’ll be coming over to your house for that soup!
Kathee
This year they have pumpkin spice creamer in sugar-free!! Yeah! I love soup. I have a couple that I make all the time, Chocolate Chili from the Well-Fed cookbook and I have a recipe for turkey vegetable soup that has sweet potatoes in. I make a triple batch and freeze servings so I can grab some for lunch. Fall is the best because I don’t have to get up early to run. Bam!!
Aine @ Awkward Irish Girl Blogs
Favourite soup is hands-down butternut squash! Sadly we don’t get much pumpkin here – no pumpkin flavoured things or tinned pumpkin. :-( The shops sell actual pumpkin but people mostly just buy them for to carve/decorate.
Grace @chasinggracedaily.blogspot.com
Let’s talk about this pumpkin thing–I am soooo whatever about pumpkin and people are crazy about having everything pumpkin,– lattes, cake, bread, shampoo! But I’m not gonna lie, I’m loving the the TJ’s pumpkin bagels. So pro tip (and by pro- I only mean professional bagel eater): hit those things UPP!
Also, I am dreading winter and icy roads. FOREVER FALL! Let’s vote it into reality?
The Hungry Runner Girl
HOW HAVE I NOT HAD THOSE BAGELS BEFORE!?!?! I guess I need to get up to TJ’s again asap!
Grace @chasinggracedaily.blogspot.com
100% worth it. No regrets on the purchase whatsoever!
Kate @RunTrueLove
I definitely LOVE fall.
Most of all- pumpkin pies, beautiful foliage, and fall marathons (all the best ones are in the fall).
I haven’t carved a pumpkin yet but planning to do that this weekend! :)
Love all your posts! You are by far my favorite blogger.
Angela @ HonestlyAngela
I love butternut squash soup in the fall. Also i agree with you that fall clothes are the best. I am all about boots, leggings, and lots of layers! Fall where I am from doesn’t last very long and winter is way too long!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
Fall favorites = apples, temperatures in the 50s, and getting to wear boots! Also it really is the best season for running – the perfect temperatures and no nasty allergens. I also get major envy of all the pretty mountain trails you get to run on – Utah is so so pretty!
Lynne
Will you be sharing your Christmas traditions list soon? I am trying to organize myself this year and get something similar started for my 3 1/2 year-old and would love to see what you’re doing!
Also — loving the TJ’s pumpkin butter on their pumpkin bread right now… Amazing, and — surprisingly — not ‘too’ pumpkiny or sweet but just right!
Love your blog — thanks for sharing your life with all of us on the interwebs!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
Panera squash soup is the bomb dot com! Love love love
Michelle Kim
Love split pea soup with some tabasco sauce in it. Dunno why but it’s sooo yummy!
Meaghan
This chicken chili is my favorite!! I’ve made it for many friends and it never disappoints. I’ve even had two girlfriends who bought crock pots just so they could recreate it! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe with us!!
Jenny
You have the cutest clothes! :) Cant wait to try the chill! Do you add in an extra can of diced tomatoes or a can of tomato soup? It sounds delicious!
The Hungry Runner Girl
WAHOO you are going to love it!! Lately I have been adding an extra can of the soup and diced tomatoes! You can’t go wrong… just DON’T LEAVE OUT THE CREAM CHEESE:) That is my favorite part!
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse
I haven’t carved pumpkins yet, but I need to! This is my baby girl’s first Halloween and I am so excited :) I love chicken and dumplings, chicken chili, chicken noodle, and beef stew :) YUM!
Rachel P
Saw the chili receipe and went to store to get ingredients I did not have for supper. Best decision ever! Even won over my picky eaters!!
The Hungry Runner Girl
That makes me so happy! It is delicious!
Amanda
Yay, Hoka’s on your friends!
Alisha @ Real Girl Running
I have to say that you guys do fall / autumn so much better than we do in the southern hemisphere! I love to see all the pumpkin and apple foods / recipes coming through. So inspiring!
As it happens, my favourite soup is pumpkin :)
Therese
I was just saying today that I have never carved a pumpkin. People were shocked. I truly shocked people today.
Nessa @ Ness Runs
Autumn really is the best season for running and everything is just so pretty too! Pumpkin everything doesn’t hurt either ;)
PeachyLau
Pumpkin is such a big thing in the US around fall!
