It feels weird to not be following some sort of training plan. But it feels weird in a good sort of a way. All of the miles I am doing lately are just for fun and stopping every mile or so for randomness has become the new normal.
A big happy running family.
A great way to really warm up your legs fast—> spend the first two miles of your run going straight uphill. Josse made up our route and I think we were all cursing her name for the first little while but once we got to the top we loved her again.
13.75 miles—> one big ginormous loop of trails and a little bit of road back to our cars.
And I am just going to end talking about the run by sharing with you one of Rachelle’s awesome gymnast poses.
It’s not too late Rachelle…
Came home, showered and spent the day with my favorite. HOW IS SHE GETTING SO TALL!?!?!?
And at night I went out to the Halloween Cruise… surprisingly pretty fun. It was a riverboat ride on the Provo River that had a bunch of decorations on the sides of the river, a scary story and a pirate that ‘attacked’ the boat.
Our tour guide.
The best kind of dinner. Waldorf salad and sweet potato fries.
And then I think Brooke had a bad dream at about midnight or so because she woke up so we laid on the ground and watched Frozen for a bit.
I hope you have an amazing Sunday!!!

I actually do that all the time! I call it “climb and fly.” I live around a lot of hills, at the bottom, so I have a couple of favorite routes where the first couple of miles are straight uphill, and then after doing that I literally feel like I’m flying the rest of the run and it gives me a huge mental rush and runners high!
Nicole@TheGirlWhoRanEverywhere
Michele I REALLY love that and I’m going to try this out!

Okay, you just set off my first urge to run since I took my time off after chicago. I have been enjoying it, and have 4days-1 week left, but you made me excited for those few weeks of just running. No pressure, no expectations, just enjoying running for what it is! I love that, especially for me I get to run 6-8 miles instead of my usual 10, which is glorious! Now I just have to be patient these last few days :)

LOVE that first picture!! Beautiful!!

In all honesty, when I started doing runs that started uphill it ended up developing plantar fasciitis symptoms (about 2 years ago). Modifying my route and taking a few rest days got rid of that quickly though! For me personally, following a training plan feels weird! You do so well with them too :-)
Brooke is getting so big! I cannot get over it!
Leigha @ The Yooper Girl
Janae… I won my race!!! State champion!!! :)
Those sweet potato fries look amazing. Craving some. And now that cross country is done I’m looking forward to just running for fun!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Leigha!!!!! You are absolutely amazing! Wow! Huge congrats!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I have to be careful how I start off now after all my foot issues this year. I can definitely not start out steep right out the gate and I always have to warm up and stretch. It’s annoying but the only thing that keeps my foot calm. I never had to stretch before I worked out. Ugh..,the consequences of getting old. Speaking of which, Brooke is getting so big! It’s crazy!
Linda @ Fit Fed and Happy
I can’t jog up a hill for a warm up, are you crazy? Maybe one mile into my warm up I would attempt to!
Leanne
I live in a pretty hilly area, so I start going uphill, too. Mentally it makes it easier to know that I get the biggest hill out of the way first and all the hills after are much easier!
Brooke is getting so big! Frozen is definitely the cure for bad dreams.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Amazing fall colours! And of course the neon of run gear!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
Frozen at midnight! Awesome. :)
I’m off for a bike ride and then driving out to see a bunch of girl friends for a girls lunch and wine get together. And then tonight I will work on fighting my Sunday dreads.
Losing Lindy
I found the snowman (Olaf right?) and I had to buy him for my coworker’s daughter who is also 2. She evidently started singing “let it go” as soon as she pulled him out of the bag.
Sarah
Where I live ALL my runs involve two miles straight uphill. I’d rather do that then run downhill at first and spend the last two miles going uphill. It’s awesome training though. On my last two 5k’s I passed many people on the first couple miles while going uphill.
Marissa @ Run Riss Run
Those leaves are simply amazing!
I’m not following a plan right now either, but I am doing lots of classes at the gym and running with my x-country team at least once a week. It’s weird, but fun and I’m sure I will be ready to train come the new year! Enjoy your Sunday!
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner
I love running for fun. I had a run to the beach and enjoyed every second of it.
Kate @RunTrueLove
Love your beautiful fall trail pictures. Glad you’re feeling great post marathon. Enjoy your time in between training programs!
Brooke is growing up to become such a beautiful little girl. Congrats :-)
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse
Wow! It is so beautiful where you went running! I hope you have a great Sunday :)
Kristina @ Blog About Running
I love that picture of you and your running friends! The colors of the changing leaves are so pretty!
I am excited to start training again, I guess I just really like having a routine haha. I’m starting the “I’m Going to Get a Huge Half Marathon PR This Winter” training cycle tomorrow :D
Jennifer
I’ve had the week off from a training schedule and it’s been a good break. I start back next week. Happy Sunday!
Christina
Ahh poor Brookers my kids have those too. That dinner cruise looks fun! And your trail run the view! Here in Cali it’s warm and so dry hope it rains…happy Sunday! Gonna shower for church.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
That is a serious run! Nice work! The only running I ever do these days is when teaching a BODYATTACK class. That’s enough for me:)
tess
What a nice way to recover from a bad dream. Mom points to you.
I joke around that every direction from my house is uphill and against the wind. Both ways. Deep down though..pretty sure it’s true. It’s evil magic.
LeAnne @ This is my faster!
The route looks great! I definitely need to try and do more hill training. In South Florida it’s a struggle to find anything remotely resembling a hill. A friend of mine told me to try running the bridges but knowing my luck I would get stuck half-way to the top…just as a ship is coming and the bridge starts to rise ;)
kateq
I just love the colour that Brooke’s hair is developing! So pretty!
Amanda Olson
Gorgeous trail pics! I live in hilly mountains too, it’s good for you, like like broccoli !
Have a great Sunday!
Katie@Run Wild in Alaska
Gorgeous trail run! I wish I had that many buddies to run with!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
Those views are so gorgeous! I don’t have enough hills around here to do anything like that, but there is one mini hill in once direction and sometimes I like to start on that so the rest of the run feels a little easier!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog
Well when your scenery is that gorgeous fall you HAVE to stop for pictures, you don’t wanna miss that!
This has been a pretty perfect Sunday. Just chillin’ in my compression socks and taking naps while pretending to watch football ;)
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
You girls look like a bunch of bright flowers in the center of all those leaves. Great photo!
Bridee
OMG… that picture of the big happy running family is great!!!
Brooke
I love trail running expecially this time of year! Are you running in the Haunted Half next weekend?
Laura
Brooke looks so much older in that photo! So cute!!
I need to get back into more trail running, it’s such good training. Great job!
Alisha @ Real Girl Running
Love all the beautiful autumn colours in your first picture!
My local area is REALLY flat, so I hardly ever do hills. That run would have killed me! I actually go to my parents (about 1.5 hours away) if I want to do any hill training – which comes with the added bonus of family time!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
I’m pretty lost without a training plan, and I’m only a week post-race. I may need to make some kind of training plan just to get a little structure back in my running.
I have been loving trail running, I wish I had more running friends here for motivation :)
Brenda @ Don't Lose the Trail
Jealous of your group trail runs! I tried to meet a group to run Saturday morning but I messed up the meeting spot and ended up running alone :( also jealous of your foliage! We don’t really have that here. I miss it.

Those fall colors look amazing! Sounds like a great day! Brooke is such a doll!
Emily
Hi!
I am a runner too and would like to start my own blog:) I was wondering what website you used for creating your blog (I’m having a hard time finding one)
Will keep checking this blog!

That’s my new plan! My half marathon didn’t go well today so I’m taking a break until November and then my goal is to run for fun.
Gretchen
Brooke is looking like such a little girl instead of a baby. My boys are 2.5 and I keep doing double takes because they look so old. I did my first marathon relay today. It was a blast. My favorite part was standing at mile 26 so we could run the last .2 miles together. It was my favorite part because I got to see so many marathoners go by. The look of pride in their eyes was so touching. I teared up a lot. Good thing I was wearing sunglasses so no one knows that I’m a huge cry baby.
The Hungry Runner Girl
It really is so crazy how fast they grow up! AHHHH congrats on your first marathon relay, that is so awesome. I love that you all ran in together. Amazing!
Erin @ Snapbacks and Racing Flats
I will never get over how absolutely beautiful the places that you get to run every day are! Speak of beautiful.. Brooke is absolutely beautiful =)<3
I've recently been working on getting myself out of the mindset that I absolutely CAN NOT stop during a run. I find that sometimes the best runs are the ones that I stop every so often to just take in my surroundings.
Lisa @ Exercise eat repeat
oh the autumn/fall leaves are so beautiful. I miss my long runs and really need to get to it before winter comes along.
Brooke is getting so big but still very cute.
Nicole@TheGirlWhoRanEverywhere
There is nothing like Foliage….even though winter is after fall…I still love fall so much-you cant beat the beauty!! I wish i had trails closer to me because i would run on them all of the time!
Thea
I have been off of a training plan for exactly 8 days and I HATE it. I kept saying in the last few weeks that I couldn’t wait to run just for fun…no, I lied, I need structure!
Kay
That fall scenery is beautiful!
